It's 2023, in a supposed democracy, in the "land of human rights" and a woman has been indicted, facing prison and an exorbitant fine for calling Macron a piece of trash.
I can't even express how fucked up and serious this is. It isn't supposed to happen in a democracy.
Fuck Macron.

The law is bad for the economy, for the workers, their health, their life, their money, the law is sexist and oppressive to women, they used the 49.3 for it, the police is very violent to the protesters and the government supports it, the government lied a lot about the law and tries to manipulate people in their speeches so they accept it and think protesters are the enemies of the democracy...everything about it is disgusting. everything.

hiii
as you probably know, france is going through a period of violent protests. here is a probably better explained version of why it’s happening than whatever i can come up with.
to make it short, the French government forced a law to make the age of retirement at 64. since 2017, the macron government passed a lot of laws destined to break the social system that we have (even if flawed).
this retirement law is extremely unpopular, and had been forced by the 49.3 article (i think the US equivalent is executive order). this means that the assembly couldn’t vote it. the voting attempt to dissolve the assembly and kill the law in the egg didn’t work out. it missed 9 votes in favor of the dissolution.
people have been protesting outside for weeks. the government doesn’t care, and police brutality is rising exponentially. the prime minister thanked the police yesterday as a lot of protesters are put in custody for nothing. they put in custody innocent people, even tourist kids. people lost limbs too.
what is happening is borderline unconstitutional, and amnesty condemned the French police brutality.
what can we do? as the protesters outside sacrifice their work days to fight against the government, money is getting scarce.
to help the protesters and to help them continue to protest, strike funds have been created.
even a dollar will help them fight the government, so if you can, please donate or share. our lives are on the line.
Caisse de solidarité
this is the link to the strike funds. to donate, click on "faire un don en ligne"

then you can choose "PayPal" for international folks.

the situation is bad. but we can make it worse for the government. stand with us and stand against social regression in France

It's hard to know how serious an event is and will turn out to be in the grand scheme of things while you're living it, but the president of France just officially refused to acknowledge the latest elections. And I don't want to call it a dictatorship because I'm aware it can be much worse, but it's also... not not a dictatorship.
It's very much one man (and his cronies) disregarding everything and everyone in order to maintain complete power over every single sphere of the government. And if it's not effectively a dictatorship, I do think it has all of the makings of one, and this might be one of the last tests before someone decides France is ripe for it.

The keys to the city of Lyon, France. 1805.
Joseph Chinard drew the pieces and the goldsmith Antoine Saunier made them.
They are symbols of Lyon’s allegiance to Napoleon I, who lifted the city from its ashes after the French Revolution. They were created in 1805 on the occasion of the emperor’s visit to Lyon.
These three keys are works of art and do not materially open any door of the city. They symbolically represent the three divisions (north, west and south) that made up the city under the First Empire (1804-1814). Each is decorated with a symbol illustrating the specificity of the neighborhood.
They were made for the visit to Lyon on April 10, 1805, of Emperor Napoleon I and Empress Josephine. They are presented to him publicly, in front of a floor of politicians —whose names are engraved on the back of the dish — as a sign of allegiance and gratitude on the part of the city.

If there's one thing I've respectively noticed from Zionists and defenders of Israeli war crimes, it's that every source, argument and potential avenue to explore each explanation is riddled with cherry picking, moving the goalposts and mental gymnastics to explain why their conclusions, which typically are barely even related to the sources they use, somehow overshadow literal reality and what we see with our own eyes.
While scrolling, one example I came across was the repetitive misrepresentation of BLM, antifa and quotes from Martin Luther King Jr, as well as statistics, scholarly journal articles and government website information. These are all good sources, yet every single time they're mangled completely until the only possible "interpretation" of any of them is "well Israel is right to defend itself after shorting rockets beforehand because the retaliation was brutal and all Arabs are bad by default therefore". As if any of these sources are even about individual exceptions of Israel versus hatred towards Arabs.
I think what I find most absurd, as someone in the middle of their own studies, is how every bit of critical thinking and logic goes out the window as they do every single thing possible to do what professors worldwide say NOT to do when evaluating sources. It's like watching a race to see who can tangle and misconstrue scientific information to fit their world view the fastest. Then said people say "um actually I studied at university before so it's actually not wrong that I'm doing this exact this everyone is warned not to do because I have a permit". Ignorance I can forgive, but willful and arrogant manipulation? That's another thing entirely.
#zionism#my gods y'all need to get a grip and start remembering that confirmation bias exists#and y'all use sources continually in this way while just generally having so much bs of presenting How To Not Use My Own Sources#or actually to be more correct you clearly do know you just choose not to because you'd rather be justified in resource theft and profit#Like the while tome it's been about either material gain or feeling good about yourself while you shit on strangers#and then I also see y'all make other accounts ro harass random Arabs for fun and random queers who aren't even related like#the fuck is wrong with y'all go sit down and think about why you all do this pointless bs#it's such a waste of your own life spending it looking for fights to help with your bottomless insecurities#Israel#fuck israel#long live palestine#like you can say hamas was bad all you like it doesn't actually change the situation and what y'all have been doing for 76 years#and actually longer but y'all arent ready for that conversation and how Zionists butchered Jews and helped Nazi Germany historically#like sorry that Was a thing that happened and if you want to label yourselves as The Sacred Protectors of Jews then you have to face that#Pretending history didn't happen isn't helpful to anyone including yourselves y'all just making Zionism look even worse and like idiocy#I mean it is but you all aren't helping yourselves by being literal holocaust deniers#and being like “but Zionists saved Jews afterwards” as if that somehow erases the fact they ALSO helped the Nazis#like history is full of contradictory bullshit so when you say “but what about this” you know that doesn't erase the other things right??#“That's worse. You DO see how that's worse right?”#I'm shaking you all and yelling this like it is WORSE that they killed Jews and then started playing the saviour and fellow victims#You do see how that is really bad for Jews today to be in a place created for political power plays and material gain through any means#like you see how that could be REALLY dangerous for Jews if they're that expendable to Zionist entities and the government#and you do realise that is literally what we are seeing from the actions of said government#and how they acting sadly very predictablely when you consider the historical contexts for its existence?#People who research this shit aren't surprised because it happens every single year and has been happening for centuries -#- before Israel the holocaust etc. It's been like this for as long as political Zionism and the French Revolution#It's been going on since pre Marxism and pre a lot of differing things but y'all pretend Zionists haven't ever harmed Jews ever when -#- there's a long history of internal conflict and in fighting that formed modern Zionism and plenty of internalised antisemetism within it#Yeah there's a genuine desire for return to the land (Not Own It just return and live peacefully)#but that is very very different to Political Zionism that formed as a socialist nationalist movement

Thinking about one of the loser men I dated directly post-college who, after I showed them Dirty Computer [the emotion picture] by Janelle Monae, said they "prefer rap that has something to say"
#this person identified as a man but used they/them pronouns just in case that was confusing#but yeah like. what does that mean. did you watch the video#also one time said colorado edibles were 'too strong' and therefore 'dangerous'#they said that COLORADO should have more 'regulations' imposed on weed products lmfao#also when i was watching mad men and expressed that i liked it#they were like 'i dont see the appeal bc the commentary feels obvious to anyone whos lived on the east coast' skskdkdkelsdnakas#they had the WEIRDEST complex about being from the east coast. like. most tightly wound person ive ever met in my life#who was constantly insisting they were sooo type b and so chill and go-with-the-flow#and like yeah im aware im from one of the most laid back slacker states#but this person was one of the most uptight people ive ever met let alone dated#and just had like 0 self awareness about it#like they would exclusively wear button downs sweater vests and cardigans. wouldnt be caught dead in a hoodie unless it was northface#would only drink coffee if it was made from a french press#also see above story about edibles (which was the biggest 'fight' we ever got in bc i was like what the fuck r u talking about)#like. the label says clearly how much thc cbd etc is in each edible and how many doses there are per container#what else could you want#if you dont know how itll affect you just take half or even a quarter of one first???#this still gets me heated to think about#but yeah like what kind of person sees DIRTY COMPUTER and is like 'hmm not political enough' lmfao#OH ALSO guess why we broke up#the blm protests happened and they said they were just 'too affected by police violence to be dating right now'#(they were very much white. blonde white)#and then i found out 11 months after we broke up that they had started dating a poc a month before we broke up#because i saw an anniversary post they did and i was like '...wait a minute'#and a friend of mine used to work with them after we broke up and according to him this person would constantly bring up what a great 'ally'#they were for dating a poc#fucking. wild

hi there, I hope you're doing great! I love your comics so much, everything about them is amazing: your style is so unique and the way you organise them (does it make sense?) is wonderful, and since I'm quite familiar with ancient Rome but much less with everything else, especially the Renaissance that I know only superficially, they got me very curious, especially about Cardinal Sforza. Do you have any reading recommendations to get a bit more in detail about the whole thing and him in particular?
thank you so much!!
so. oh boy. so the thing about ascanio is that he was doing so much everywhere all the time that there's a 800 page biography about him that specifically mentions that it chose to focus on his life in the political sphere because it would be too fucking long if they covered his impact on the arts and music as a patron
the extreme cliff notes version of his life (english): HERE
a short biography (italian): HERE
the rest of these are in english (except the ascanio bio), there's a whole bunch of scholarship on the sforzas that's somewhat region locked to italy/your ability to read italian, and god I feel it every day I look at the bibliography of the ascanio biography. someday......someday I'll go to milan in person.....get ahold of these books and texts...........see the archives................
A History of Milan under the Sforza, Cecilia M. Ady
Milan Undone: Contested Sovereignties in the Italian Wars, John Gagné
Popes, Cardinals and War: The Military Church in Renaissance and Early Modern Europe, D.S. Chamber
Ascanio Maria Sforza: la parabola politica di un cardinale-principe del Rinascimento, Marco Pellegrini (Italian)
an additional rec, Showtime's The Borgias. he's extremely fun in that one

the easiest way to achieve socialism is to build a worker owned social media network and find a way to collectively make money and help each other learn and grow and improve our lives. and pretty much just ignore all the people who don’t believe in collaboration and teamwork. expand operations to include more stuff. create a healthy ecosystem of creative teams. make knowledge sharing an entertaining art form
we will also need to prove to the people who think violence is necessary that we all deserve better than another failure like the french revolution. the french revolution and russian revolutions both failed BECAUSE of the violence, that’s why we got napoleon (capitalism) and stalin (nationalism). so that’s why it has to be about collaborative ecosystems. because networks of ecosystems transcend both capitalism and nationalism and allow everyone to express their unique nature, to express their portion of truth
truly radical shifts are only possible if you can reassure people and make them feel cared for. you can only do that if you have no enemies and no intention of making any
if someone hurts you, don’t hurt them back, retreat and show them what they’re missing. eventually the superior system will establish itself. it will be collaborative & generous. we're closer than you think

Okay so next week (really this afternoon), I have something for Uni. We need to do an immersion activity of at least 40 hours (so we can discover the people/public (aka the people with who I want to work)(we are gonna have a real internship later (like in 2 years)). In my case I think about working with children, so I am doing it in a place that organize playing fields (?? Like a week of activity organized, parents give the children at 8 take them back at 17? I have no idea of how it is translated in english) for autistic children.
Anyway, since I am doing it for uni, there are other student of my faculty that are coming. And I got their name so I could contact them if needed. Being as anxious/nervous as I am, I did. But somehow, sending an email (or worse calling them) seemed weird. So I searched them on Instagram!
And I found one of them (we are five, I knew one already so I am missing two)! So I sent a dm. With my bookstagram account with my queer flag and she/they in bio and with, at the time, my magneto profile picture. Anyway. It was her and all that, BUT she watched my story. In my story at the time, was just a post about how the RN (a french far right party) was racist.
Today, she sent me a text again, and, very obviously, saw my story again. Once again, only one story there (don't ask why I am not active, I do NOT know) and it was a call for french people to vote for NFP (french left party) today.
I am NOT french. At all. I do not live in France either, my university is very much in Belgium, same for the place I am going.
So I have no idea of what impression this person has of me but it could be a very wrong one.

Napoleon’s coronation oath — 1804
