Brian May says he wouldn't have released the upcoming Star Fleet Project reissue featuring Eddie Van Halen without Alex Van Halen's support.
In a new interview with Cleveland.com, May said he thought about releasing the newly expanded and remastered box set shortly after Eddie's passing in October 2020 but decided the time wasn't right. Here's an excerpt from Gary Graff's interview:
DO YOU VIEW THE BOX SET AS ALSO A TRIBUTE TO EDDIE IN A WAY?
MAY: “Yes, it is but I did hesitate. At the time when I was starting to think about it, it was just about the time Ed passed away and I just couldn't do it. I just didn't feel right about it. Then a few years passed and I got to talking to Alex Van Halen, who's a great inspiration and also a wonderful musician. Alex has become a trusted friend and I have enormous admiration for him. He's been through such a terrible time because, of course, the two brothers were completely inseparable. For Alex, it's like losing half of himself. So, I wanted Alex's blessing to do this 'cause I didn't want to do anything that felt distasteful.”
Earlier, May explained how Eddie became a part of the project:
IT'S ALWAYS NICE TO HEAR MORE EDDIE VAN HALEN PLAYING. HOW DID HE BECOME PART OF THIS?
MAY: “Ed I knew as a friend but l'd very seldom had a chance to hang out with him; l got very drunk with him one night, very ill-advisedy...but that's another story. (laughs) With Ed, I set him up. I wanted to hear what happened when you put Ed as a firework on a stage and lit the blue-touch paper and stood back to see what happens. I gave him that stage in the middle of the ("Star Fleet") song; that to me was the climax of the whole song, the bit where Ed steps forward and does his own thing, unfettered by anything. He steps in and it comes out completely out of his head—that's not an overdub, he just does it. Every time he does it, it's different, 'cause his brain's constantly creating new stuff, which to me is one of the great joys of the (box set). love to hear the different version of what he came up with. What an extraordinary, extraordinary player he was, just incredible.”

“Many Towns Voting Today,” Border Cities Star. December 5, 1932. Page 7. ---- Three in Mayoralty Races In Ottawa And Woodstock --- TORONTO, Dec. 5. - Residents of numerous cities, towns and villages and townships of Ontario go to the polls today to elect new municipal councils for the year 1933. Lower taxes, rigid economy and balanced budgets have been popular planks, upon which the multitude of candidates have appealed to the electorate. The exceptionally large number of nominees this year has created unusual interest and new marks in polling are expected to be registered.
In the majority of the larger cities the mayoralty contest has been waged between two aspirants. Ottawa, Windsor and Woodstock have three seeking the chief magistrate's chair. Hamilton, Chatham, Kingston, Kitchener, Galt and St. Thomas will see the vote divided among two for this honor.
Brockville, believing that money that might be spent on elections could be better used for unemployment relief, returned the entire municipal slate by acclamation with Fred Wolthausen as mayor. Stratford has accorded C. I. Graff another term as mayor by acclamation.

Epstein allegedly sexually assaulted multiple teenage girls. Some of his victims were as young as 14 years old, prosecutors have said. He committed the crimes at his homes in Manhattan; Palm Beach, Florida; and his private island near St. Thomas.
In 2019, federal prosecutors charged him with one count of sex trafficking conspiracy and one count of sex trafficking with underage females. Epstein died by suicide in his Manhattan jail cell about a month after being arrested, and the charges against him were thus dropped.
His partner Maxwell, who was also involved in the crimes, is now serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted in December 2021. She was accused of helping Epstein recruit and sexually abuse minor girls.

Mid Year Book Freakout Tag
Stolen from @lettersfromthelighthouse.
How many books have you read so far?
99, only three of which have been rereads. (Though six of them have been picture books, which feels a little like cheating.)
What genres have you read?
Fantasy and historical fiction, mostly, but also mystery, science fiction, romance, literary fiction, YA and middle grade contemporaries, graphic novels, alternate history. For non-fiction, I’ve read true crime, a business/biography thing, history, science and nature writing, film criticism, sociology, and memoir.
Best books you’ve read so far in 2021:
Cloud Cuckoo Land - Anthony Doerr
Flyaway - Kathleen Jennings
The Liar’s Dictionary - Eley Williams
Empire of Pain - Patrick Radden Keefe
The Warmth of Other Suns - Isabel Wilkerson
We Had a Little Real Estate Problem - Kliph Nesteroff
Ace - Angela Chen
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2021:
The Ruthless Lady’s Guide to Wizardry by C.M. Waggoner. I liked a lot about Unnatural Magic but I rarely hit “Ooh this is good and fun” the way I did with Ruthless Lady’s. The runner-up is obviously The Hidden Palace by Helene Wecker, which was a very solid sequel but ultimately gave me exactly what I liked from The Golem and the Jinni.
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to:
Oh gosh. So many? Um. To start with…
Appleseed by Matt Bell
The Ship of Stolen Words by Fran Wilde
A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum by Emma Southon
The Lights of Prague by Nicole Jarvis
The Ratline by Philippe Sands
A Radical Act of Free Magic by H.G. Parry
What Abigail Did That Summer by Ben Aaronovitch
The Witness for the Dead by Katherine Addison
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year:
The Liar’s Knot by M.A. Carrick, A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske, and No Gods, No Monsters by Cadwell Turnbull.
Biggest disappointment:
Persephone Station by Stina Leicht. It sounded absolutely amazing, but the book I expected wasn’t close to the book I got, and the pacing was distinctly off-balance for me.
Biggest surprise:
The Liar’s Dictionary by Eley Williams (an “oh sure why not” book turned into a best of the year)
The Mask of Mirrors by M.A. Carrick (I knew it was my jam but didn’t expect it to be so much so)
Fred Gets Dressed by Peter Brown (did not expect the queer positivity at all)
Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr (another “sure why not” that I finished thinking, “yep, that was decently good” but it’s somehow in my top 5 novels.
Favorite new author (debut or new to you):
M.A. Carrick, Angela Chen, and Eley Williams are all authors whose careers I’m going to be following. I’m also going to have to read more Christine de Pizan, and after loving two books from Patrick Radden Keefe, I’ve added his backlist to my TBR.
Underrated gems:
Most of the books I’ve liked, tbh. Narrowing it down to:
The Book of the City of Ladies by Christine de Pizan (medieval women really don’t get a lot of play on booklr for some reason)
The Jane Austen Society by Natalie Jenner (if you like “love of reading” stories and historical fiction, this is for you)
The Raft of Stars by Andrew J. Graff (hope, boyhood, nature, changed lives)
We Had a Little Real Estate Problem by Kliph Nesteroff (history of Indigenous comedy)
The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Wliliams (another “love of reading” historical”
The Liar’s Dictionary by Eley Williams (funny, clever, perfect)
The Mask of Mirrors by M.A. Carrick (nobody is talking about this fantasy why?)
The Cold Vanish by John Billman (wilderness disappearances, will appeal to true crime people)
Newest fictional crush:
I’m aroace, I don’t have crushes
Nadim from Accidentally Engaged (Farah Herron) would make a pretty decent boyfriend for a lot of people, I think. Mostly I just want to get pancakes with the One Last Stop crew, though.
Newest favorite characters:
…… the One Last Stop crew?
Book that made you cry:
The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams.
Book that made you happy:
Vampenguin by Lucy Ruth Cummins is a delight.
Most beautiful book cover of a book you’ve read so far this year:
Flyaway by Kathleen Jennings.
How are you doing with your year’s goals?
99/150 books
31,161/50,000 pages
42% on my BIPOC authors challenge
62% on my queer fiction challenge
35% on my Canadian authors challenge
But the challenges I keep doubling up on the prompts for and they don’t have end dates.
What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
All of these ones
Not tagging anyone because I don’t know who’s done it. Nab if you want to but please tag me!

Voice actors tend to play lots of roles, I know, but I still didn’t actually clock the amount of overlap in gw2 actors with fallout new vegas?? (Click the linked names to see the ones who did VA booth interivews)
Jocelyn Blue (Eir, Glint) was Dr Dala
Cam Clarke does background NPCs and he was Dr Mobius
Jim Ward (Tybalt Leftpaw) was Dr Klein
Keith Szarabajka did background NPCs and he was Joshua Graham
Yuri Lowenthal is ubiquitous in both. He’s GW2′s Lord Faren and most tengu NPCs, and Fallout’s Nolan McNamara, Oliver Swanick, Antony, TONS of minor NPCs
Steven Blum (Rytlock) apparently turns up in a single holotape (??)
Debra Wilson (Jormag) was a handful of minor NPCs
Courtenay Taylor (Almorra Soulkeeper, Ellen Kiel) was Gloria van Graff
Cindy Robinson did some various NPCs in both
April Stewart (human female player) was a bunch of named minor NCR ladies
Sam Riegel (Braham) was Chris Haversam, the guy who thinks he’s a ghoul, and various real ghouls
Robin Atkin Downes (Gamarien - you’ll have heard him if you’ve ever done the Jungle Wurm boss) was Deputy Beagle and the Mr Gutsys
Jason Spisak (Shadows Agent Kito) was Vulpes Inculta, in a way that’s ridiculously obvious
Fred Tatasciore (Mad King Thorn, Kralkatorrik, Ogden Stonehealer) was Tabitha and Rhonda
Mitch Lewis (Riannoc) was Legate Lanius
Kirsten Potter did background NPCs and she was Colonel Moore
Ron Yuan (original male charr player) was a large array of NPCs
Liam O’Brien (Tiachren, Smodur the Unflinching, Myrun the new enby norn) was Pacer, James Garrett, and a LOT of NCR soldiers
Felicia Day (Zojja) was Veronica
I knew there were lots of voices I recognised but once I started looking there just kept being more!

Gloucester county NJ $600 6mo cost of waiting on rates to buy median $216k home James Graff 732 500 MUTE NMLS# 19734758 Get no hassle/obligation mortgage help: http://JGraff.AdvisorsMortgage.com/prequalify 732-500-MUTE Cost of waiting for rates to buy a home If you’re shopping for a home today, you know it’s kind of hard work. You might not find something right away and it’s easy to get fatigued. Sometimes buyers get discouraged and say, “Let me take off a few months, maybe I’ll come back 6 months later.” Here’s the thing: while you can take some time off, the market isn’t taking time off! And it’s hot right now in your area of Gloucester County, New Jersey. The forecasted appreciation is 0.3% in just the next 6 months; let’s quantify that. A home worth $217,000 today (median price) would be worth $600 more in 6 months. Additionally, if you were planning on putting the same percent down, you would have to borrow more because the home is more expensive. And how about interest rates? Even though rates are at very attractive levels, does it make sense to wait for rates to go down further? No, the monthly savings with a lower rate are nice but are dwarfed by the missed appreciation and amortization, and it would take many, many years to recoup what you would have lost. Should rates drop significantly, we can always refinance you in the future. Stick with it, keep shopping, and you will find something! I’m James Graff and that’s this week’s Mortgage Minute. Quote
To the university I’ll steal, and there I’ll steal,” to borrow from Pistol at the end of Henry V, as he would surely borrow from us. This is the only possible relationship to the American university today. This may be true of universities everywhere. It may have to be true of the university in general. But certainly, this much is true in the United States: it cannot be denied that the university is a place of refuge, and it cannot be accepted that the university is a place of enlightenment. In the face of these conditions one can only sneak into the university and steal what one can. To abuse its hospitality, to spite its mission, to join its refugee colony, its gypsy encampment, to be in but not of – this is the path of the subversive intellectual in the modern university. Worry about the university. This is the injunction today in the United States, one with a long history. Call for its restoration like Harold Bloom or Stanley Fish or Gerald Graff. Call for its reform like Derek Bok or Bill Readings or Cary Nelson. Call out to it as it calls to you. But for the subversive intellectual, all of this goes on upstairs, in polite company, among the rational men. After all, the subversive intellectual came under false pretenses, with bad documents, out of love. Her labor is as necessary as it is unwelcome. The university needs what she bears but cannot bear what she brings. And on top of all that, she disappears. She disappears into the underground, the downlow lowdown maroon community of the university, into the undercommons of enlightenment, where the work gets done, where the work gets subverted, where the revolution is still black, still strong.
Stefano Harvey & Fred Moten, “The Undercommons”
