ATSUMU MIYA knows he's fucked. Being comfortable with being openly bisexual earned him some respect as an athlete and a few biphobic insults on the internet, but he wasn't greatly affected by whatever people thought of him. He's confident with his sexuality. So, when Sakusa Kiyoomi introduced you, his fiancé, to the team, he realized how it was going to bite him in the ass.
It was astonishing how Sakusa was all right with introducing you to the team, after all, he was a private man. He keeps his personal life completely separate from his career as an athlete. Others in the team such as Bokuto and Hinata, thought it was endearing that Sakusa is willing to open up to them and introduce his future wife. You had a personality opposite to Sakusa. You were pretty, great with jokes, and clever. Atsumu couldn't help but get hooked, no wonder you got Omi-omi wrapped around your finger.
Now, Sakusa was an incredibly hot guy, it was a fact that is difficult to deny. Albeit, aloof and not afraid to tell the truth no matter how brutal, Sakusa was intelligent and talented. His picturesque features were just a bonus. Atsumu just finds it cruel how he's drawn to the wing spiker ever since he joined the MBSY Black Jackals. Sure, he had a tiny crush on him back during high school, but he didn't expect it to resurface and develop quickly once he became an adult.
Atsumu thought it was downright fucked up how you and Sakusa arrived at the outing, violently ripping the air out of his lungs with how fucking gorgeous you both looked. Atsumu thought Sakusa wasn't attending the outing, but god he was wrong. While everyone was busy laughing and talking with you as Sakusa contently listened with a subtle smile, Atsumu had a gorilla grip on his can of Coca-Cola. He's sweating and his eyes persistently watch you and Sakusa.
God, he couldn't explain what he was experiencing. Envy? Longing? Come on, he was a hot and openly bisexual man, he could easily get anyone he wanted. But what if the one he wanted was already taken? Or rather, what if he's also attracted to that person's fiancé?
"Hey, Atsumu, you doing all right?"
You tilt your head to the side and Atsumu merely chokes on his soda. He smiles and gives you a thumbs-up. He could've sworn he saw Sakusa smirk in the corner of his eye. The outing went on with Atsumu subtly trying to spend more time with you and Sakusa.
Atsumu felt flabbergasted when Sakusa invited him to your wedding. It was next week. Atsumu had to bite his tongue when Sakusa looked so shy and all flustered when he extended the invitation to him after practice.
"[Name] insisted that I should invite you and the rest of the team"
Sakusa mumbled it was illegal how a six-foot-three brooding man could be adorable. Of course, Atsumu accepted the invitation and proceeded to spend his days preparing for the big day. It's not like he was trying to steal the show like he usually does, he just wanted to get your and Sakusa's attention and leave a lasting impression.
The wedding rolled by. Frankly, Atsumu felt nervous that he didn't prepare enough. But after seeing you and Sakusa kiss at the altar, he felt a burst of joy mixed with longing. Now, the party began. Atsumu grabbed the nearest alcohol and chugged it down, he tried to distract himself by actually having fun. He danced with Bokuto and Hinata as he kept the party alive. As the bride and groom approached the dancefloor, all the alcohol in his body dissipated.
Atsumu's throat felt incredibly dry as his heart leaped out of his chest. Both you and Sakusa looked so fucking good it's making him absolutely weak. You toothily smiled at him, it displayed sheer joy. Sakusa spared him a smirk, showing his dimples. Atsumu needs someone to check his pulse real quick.
"Atsumu!"
"Congratulations, [Name]! So, how does it feel to be a Sakusa?"
"Fucking fantastic"
"I'm gonna wait til ya regret that"
"Miya"
Sakusa frowned at him which made both you and Atsumu laugh. Nonetheless, Atsumu pulls you both on the dancefloor. He watches you gleefully dance your heart out, Sakusa was even letting himself loose and get lost in the lively music. It made Atsumu's heart throb with delight. Eventually, the music transitioned into a soft melody. Everyone exited the dancefloor as the bride and groom had a moment. The shared smile on both of your faces as you held each other, swaying along to the music, brought that weird feeling back to Atsumu.
He pouts and spends the entire event drinking until he gets wasted. He wasn't sure how he ended up in the backseat of a car and carried into a bedroom, but that's all he recalls before he passed out. Atsumu wakes up to the most painful hungover since his college days.
"Ugh, fuck"
He tries to sit up. The bedroom didn't belong to him, so he wasn't home. He was still dressed in his tuxedo. He found a bottle of water and pills on the nightstand, there was a note left beside it. He squints his eyes.
Here are some pills for your hungover :) - [Name]
There are spare clothes for you in the closet, dumbass - Sakusa
No fucking way...
Atsumu takes the pills and frantically gets changed into a large white shirt and a short cotton shorts. He takes a deep breath and exits the room. The smell of bacon enters his nose making his mouth water. He shyly trudges into the kitchen to see a shirtless Sakusa cooking breakfast only wearing grey sweatpants.
Oh dear lord help him
"Uh, good mornin'"
Sakusa turned around and put two pieces of bacon on a plate filled with eggs and rice, there were three plates available. Sakusa squinted his eyes at him and sighed.
"You idiot"
"Ya didn't have to take me to yer home so I wouldn't have to ruin you and [Name]'s honeymoon, Omi-kun"
"You could've gotten hurt. You were stumbling and tripping over your own feet last night. If my wife didn't see you throwing up on a potted plant, you would've gotten kidnapped"
"Look, I'm sorry"
"Tsk"
Sakusa clicked his tongue. Atsumu tried not to stare at his delicious pectoral muscles. The sound of the door closing catches his attention. All air gets violently knocked out of his lungs because you were only wearing an oversized shirt all the way to your thighs, one of your smooth shoulders was exposed. You were yawning and rubbing your eyes as you approached the kitchen.
"Good morning"
"Good morning, darling"
You go over to Sakusa who gives you a kiss on the lips. You turned to Atsumu and smiled.
"Good morning, 'Tsumu"
"Go-good mornin', [Name]"
"How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay, thanks for, uh, taking care of me"
"No worries. Let's go eat breakfast!"
The three of you shared breakfast. Atsumu's eyes kept darting from you and Sakusa as you talked, a part of him felt guilty for interrupting an intimate moment between you two. Both of you deserved an alone time after your wedding. Atsumu played with his food and sulked in his seat.
"Oi, why aren't you eating?"
"I'm sorry for...ruining yer moment"
"No, it's fine Tsumu! Did Kiyoomi make you feel unwelcome?"
"No, I didn't!"
There was a lighthearted bicker between you and Sakusa which makes Atsumu smile. He slowly regains his appetite and finishes his food. When he looks up, he sees both you and Sakusa giving him a gentle look. He gulps.
"Uh, is there somethin' on my face?"
"You're quite adorable aren't you, Tsumu? Won't you agree, honey?"
"Yes, unfortunately"
"Huh? What do ya mean?"
"Tsumu we can see the way you look at us"
Oh fuck. Atsumu didn't want to jump to conclusions but he's internally panicking, bi-panicking he supposes.
"I do-don't know what yer talkin' about"
"Bullshit, Miya"
"Come on, it's okay Tsumu. No need to be ashamed"
"Bu-but both of ya just got married!"
"So?"
You and Sakusa replied in unison. Atsumu is convinced he's about to have a cardiac arrest. You stand from your seat and make your way over to him, you gently grab his face and caress his cheeks. Sakusa silently walks over to you two slyly slides his hand across his neck and grabs his chin. The way both of you were touching him and looking at him was making his brain melt.
"How about we go to the room, yeah?"
Atsumu nods, effectively hypnotized by your voice. You grabbed his hand and led him to your shared bedroom. Sakusa has his hands resting on Atsumu's shoulders, further increasing the anticipation. As soon as the bedroom shuts, Atsumu knows he's going to have a wild time.
should I make a part two with a smutscene? lmfao
edit: here's part 2 lol

Tumblr media
Where did it all go wrong.
That was the question that kept you up at night and haunted you during the day. It was strange how, no matter how hard you tried to please people, they still found a reason or way to stab you in the back. Finnick was one of the many people, who obeyed the capitols every wish. The main reason being to save his loved ones. And even that wasn’t enough.
No, because the people wanted entertainment, they wanted something more. They wanted to be astonished, blown away.
You knew that by now. Because why else would president Snow make the decision to reap from the existing pool of victors. Because why else would the love of your life, the person you called your home be reaped again. It was all to satisfy the capitol and make them feel even more powerful than they already are.
The moment the woman from the capitol fished a small piece of paper out of the bowl with the reaped one’s name on it, you knew it would be Finnick. When she said the first letter, your prediction was confirmed. And without even hearing the entire name, you broke out into tears.
You watched as your boyfriend tried to be nonchalant about it, smiling through the pain like he always did. But when they zoomed in on his face, you were crying uncontrollably. It didn’t help that you weren’t allowed to come with him either.
However, until the day he left the district you both lived in, you never left his side. Even if it weren’t allowed, even if it meant being threatened by the peacekeeper. Frankly, you couldn’t care less, because all you could care about was your Finnick. The one who was about to relive the torture he did when he was fourteen all over again.
All you could do now was watch him through a screen, something about it bringing some sort of comfort. Because you could see him.
The day of the ceremony was a tough one.
You could tell from everything you saw of him, that the stress and anxiety had gotten to him.
And you were right. He couldn’t function properly without you by his side. Finnick felt as if all the life was sucked out of him and that he would never feel alive again. Nonetheless, he smiled like he was enjoying fighting for his death again. He had to put on a show or else his chances of survival would decrease.
The way the crowd cheered when he was standing next to Caesar flew over his head. Because his thoughts were absolutely consumed by you. Flickerman talked to him, but he didn’t process a single word he was saying. “I heard from a little bird that you have message for somebody. A special somebody.” Caesar said, emphasising the special as he looked at the audience with a smug look.
Finnick’s smile turned more genuine when Flickerman mentioned the special somebody, which was you. The thought of hopefully seeing you again was the only thing keeping him from going insane. So with you in his mind, he started talking in the microphone. “My love,” The crowded room screamed hysterically, but he talked over it, his lips quivering, “You have my heart. For all eternity.”
The image of you sitting on the couch popped into his head and he wished desperately that he was with you right now. “And if…” He continued, but he had a hard time finding the right words. Flickerman nodded at him encouragingly, wondering where this was leading. “If I die in that arena… my last thought will be of your lips.” Your boyfriend tried his best to hold his composure and appear calm and confident, but inside he was breaking down.
After that, the games went by in a blur. The only thing you could vividly remember during the hard times, was the dream you had about Finnick. A dream that you would cherish forever, because it gave you hope of him surviving.
Soon enough, before you knew it, the capitol had taken you because of what happened during the quarter quell. You were watching the games, hoping that the plan your lover and his allies had made would go well. And remember Katniss shooting a bow at the middle of the dome. Before you knew it, the peacekeepers were infiltrating your house. They took you with them, but you can’t recall exactly how and what happened then.
When being held captive by the capitol, Finnick was the only thing you thought about. You weren’t aware if he was alright or not and it scared you more than anything. You snapped out of your thoughts when there was a knock on your door. President Snow himself walked in, accompanied by a woman you had seen by his side a lot recently. It took everything in your power not to jump at and attack him, so you did in your imagination. You imagined strangling him as he talked to you, however, you didn’t care one bit about what he was saying.
But as soon as your lover’s name was mentioned, your ears perked up. “We will find him, dear. And when he sees you, it won’t be long before he will leave district thirteen.”
Some kind of joy bloomed inside your chest, because even though his statement scared you, you were relieved that your Finnick was alive and well.
Finnick didn’t know anything about your state, but he blamed himself for everything that happened to you. He shut himself in his room all day, thinking about you, wishing he was with you, thinking about how things would be like in an alternative universe. He wasn’t aware of his surroundings anymore, being absolutely consumed by and in his thoughts.
Your name was the only word that left his mouth.
One day, Finnick heard about the plans to save you, Johanna and Peeta. And from that day on, he was more involved in everything that happened. Because all he wanted was for you to be with him again and he would do everything it took to get
you back to him. The day of executing the plan finally came and it went by swiftly, however for Finnick, it felt as if a million years passed by. Everything felt out of place without you.
After his interview, which was meant to distract both president Snow and the capitol, he rushed to Katniss. He interrogated her about if it had worked, but even she was unsure if it was a success.
Finnick waited for hours, pacing through his room anxiously. The only thing running through his mind being you, like always. He started to realise how just the thought of you had brought him so far. Because without you, he wouldn’t have cared if he passed away in that arena. Without you, he wouldn’t do his best to keep himself alive and to openly talk about what Snow did to him. Because for you, he would do anything. Anything you wanted him to do.
When he heard yelling coming from down the hall, his eyes widened. Was it possible that they were back with you guys already? Finnick didn’t waste any time and before he knew it, he was standing next to Katniss, waiting for Coin to tell them what was going on. But when he saw Johanna lying on a hospital bed, he knew enough.
You were somewhere here too.
He greeted Johanna, thankful that she was saved as well, before looking around to find you. Finnick asked every person he ran into, anyone that might know where you were. But everyone was so busy with everything they were doing, that they didn’t respond to him.
At this point, Finnick entered any room there was, in hopes to find you after the long separation. He searched every room, investigated every hall, but there was no sign of you.
Your lover was frantically looking around, when you awoke. And even though you were unaware about where you were, the only thing that mattered was that Finnick was right there. You wanted to call out his name, but there was no sound coming out of your mouth.
But you didn’t need words, because your boyfriend could feel your presence. When your gazes locked, Finnick didn’t waste a second when making his way over to you. He pushed away everyone that crossed his path, and pushed the doctors surrounding you aside.
Finnick halted right next to you, tears swelling up in both your and his eyes. He picked you up, not caring about the man that told him not to. He wrapped his arms around you so strongly, you were sure you would never get out of his grip.
Many tears left your eyes as you were finally in the arms of your home.
Finnick pulled away after a long time and took a good look at you, before pressing his lips against yours like a starved man. Hungry for you and your touch, he kissed you like you were all alone, with no one around. The only reason the two of you pulled away, was the lack of oxygen, and when you did you flashed him a smile.
“I finally kissed the lips that were on my mind the entire time.” Finnick whispered, his arms still wrapped around you. With a chuckle you planted another kiss on his lips, before pulling him in again for another hug. Being with your lover restored all the hope and will to live again.
And with him you were sure, that this pain wouldn’t be for evermore.

Tw suicidal ideation (dw I'm fine just reflecting)
So mandatory disclaimer that I'm okay, I'm not in crisis, I am not going to kill myself, I have no desire to kill myself. However, this will probably be triggering for anyone who's sensitive about those topics. Putting that out there so yall can take care of yourselves. Now that we've gotten that out of the way.
I think about killing myself most days. It's like that when I'm in crisis, obviously, but it's like that when I'm fine too. Almost anything can set it off - hearing about something death related, not knowing how to handle a mild-to-moderately difficult situation in my life, boredom. Dreading a big presentation. Normal day to day anxieties and conversations.
It's been like this since the idea entered my head when I was like. 8 years old. So the vast majority of my conscious existence, I've been living with these thoughts. I've had near misses, sure, I've... made preparations. Never actually followed through, which the Fucked Up Guy in my head (abstract personification of these urges. Sometimes helps to think about them that way) would call cowardice. Thanks, Fucked Up Guy. Suuuuper helpful. Moving on
It's... just so mundane to me now. On an intellectual level, I'm able to dismiss the Fucked Up Guy and go about my day. Consciously, I have accepted that suicide is not a "solution" I will ever make use of. But the patterns of thought and action I built around the certainty that I was going to commit suicide, and probably soon--patterns I built from a very young age and reinforced for years--still interfere with my thinking and with my life.
I don't make plans more than a year in advance. I didn't expect to survive high school, much less graduate, and now that I'm facing down the last year of my degree I'm astonished to have gotten here. I have to, like... find a place to live. And get a job. And be an actual adult. And some part of me is crying on the ground and throwing a tantrum because, frankly, I wasn't supposed to have to do all that. I was supposed to die before I was ever truly in charge of my life.
There's a term for this feeling, I've recently learned. It's called "sense of foreshortened future." But that doesn't really get across how it feels. It feels like there's this giant void ahead of me, and all sorts of stuff keeps jumping out of it as time goes on, becoming revealed as it gets close enough for me to process that it's real, and I'll actually have to deal with it before I die. Obstacles to dodge, opportunities to grasp at, and every mundane duty I have to myself and the people around me. I didn't schedule a dentist appointment for two years because I didn't think I'd be needing my teeth for very long. I still need to request my mail in ballot for November.
And at the back of my head, the excuse, every time, is "oh I'll probably be dead by the time that's important." And that is Extremely! Not! Helpful! It fucks things up for me, and it fucks things up for people who care about me who end up picking up the slack.
I know I should be proud to have made it this far. Honestly, the most I can muster is surprise. It doesn't feel like an achievement, it still feels like I'm racing against time to juggle all the things the void that is my future throws at me until that void swallows me whole and I don't have to worry about anything anymore. My life is full of stopgap measures I've jury-rigged into continuing to keep me alive for far too long.
And maybe that's the rest of my life. Maybe, between the circumstances I was born into and the choices I made, I will have to continually dismiss the Fucked Up Guy, regardless of whatever else I do. Maybe the void ahead is one I have to keep exploring, despite my inability to look ahead. I still think my life can be worth living. I still want my life.
I think that's the most terrifying part. To want to live, even though my first impulse to solve any situation is to Stop Living. Idk. I don't have a solution. I just want a life, and this is the only one I'm guaranteed to get, so I'm gonna do my best with it. I can't see a way out, so I'll live through for however long I can. White-knuckling all the way, maybe. Fuck it. We ball.

Favorite anime?
Anime? Well, i shouldn probably note i dont watch anime in general, with few exceptions. Generally i stick to the manga if there is one, with a few exceptions.
Soul eater, trigun, etc. Or if there is not an original, previous manga like kill la kill.
With that said, i do know which series i consider my favorite Anime overall.
Tumblr media
That being the original Naruto Anime. The manga and shippuden both turned into absolute garbage at a very specific point, and never really recovered, but the original Naruto anime, unlike the manga, can be viewed in the context of a separate series rather than just pre and post timeskip.
Looking back at it, knowing how it all turned out, it's actually astonishing how GOOD the original Naruto was.
Naruto might be THE example i would point to, of how you can present your protagonist, their goal, and why it mattera in one episode.
And it only kept on trucking from there.
One piece at it's peak during water seven and Enies lobby might be overall better, but as a consistent bit of work, i regard the Original Naruto as the gold standard for Shonen storytelling, and just anime in general.
Tumblr media
Ive seen some people who make compelling arguments that the Sabuza arc, naruto's first arc, ita east blue as it was, was the single best one it ever had... And its great.
And it only got better from there.
Tumblr media
It had a great world that managed to combine brutal but perfectly logical and interesting politics rooted in war, ninja clans and economics, a relatively low level magic system that made for logical and strategic yet spectacular fights, and best of all, characters that made this world feel alive.
Barring filler arcs, i can point to every single arc, as having some of my favorite moments in fiction period.
Tumblr media
Naruto's interaction with Haku wheter as a passing interaction, their fight, naruto beating him to a pulp, then stopping once seeing his face, Zabuza addmitting he did love Haku, orochimaru's introduction and him beating sasuke around like a punk and marking him, hinata standing against Neji, gaara vs lee, Naruto defeating Neji then breaking his entire world view by confessing that his absolute worst point used to be Bushins of any kind(ive seen so many people miss the forest for the trees with that one by focusing on the fox chakra), pretty much Tsunade's entire arc, sasuke lashing out at Kakashi, only for Kakashi telling sasuke that everyone Kakashi ever loved had died a long time ago, every fight in the sasuke retrieval arc, and the list goes on and on.
Frankly speaking, if the original Naruto had just done a good job adapting it, it would probably be my favorite anime, but the fact is that in so many aspect, they knocked it out of the park. Amazing fight scenes, glorious and iconic music, and capturing every important scene pretty much perfectly.
The only bad thing i have to say about the original naruto anime, is it's filler arcs... But by virtue of them being arcs and episodes, you can very easily skip them, unlike some series who plops down filler wherever, or drags out every single moment again and again tos tretch the run time(one piece, im looking at you).

Daisy Haites Review (Spoilers Are Included)
I've assigned a modest 2 out of 5 stars to this Daisy Haites by Jessa Hastings, and let me just share my thoughts on it. On the positive side, for someone as inquisitive as me, the book does succeed in keeping the curiosity alive, making you want to read on and discover the resolution.
However, my frustrations abound when I delve into the negatives. It's frankly astonishing that a book with so many typographical errors even made it to publication. The narrative essentially mirrors that of "BJ and Magnolia," the prequel's foundation, albeit with the inclusion of firearms. The excessive use of footnotes becomes an annoyance rather than an enhancement. Seriously, do they need to appear after every single paragraph? It's an unnecessary hindrance to the reading flow, slowing things down unnecessarily.
The action sequences and combat scenes within the book come across as contrived. The protagonist, Daisy, seemingly possesses superhuman fighting abilities, effortlessly overcoming highly trained adversaries, all thanks to her supposed Krav Maga prowess. The portrayal of combat is akin to a child's idealized version, where the main character never faces defeat. One can't help but wonder, if these adversaries are supposed to be skilled killers, why do they appear so ineffective against Daisy?
And let's not overlook the eye-rolling moment where Daisy shoots herself. It's an exasperating plot development that feels like a desperate attempt at shock value rather than an organic narrative choice. Furthermore, the character development is underwhelming, particularly given the unnecessarily drawn-out storyline. In reality, this tale could have been succinctly told within a much shorter span of pages.
The most glaring issue is the lack of complexity in character dynamics. Comparisons between Daisy and Christian versus Magnolia and BJ reveal glaring similarities, almost to the point of replication. Their relationship struggles, familial complications, and dependence on friends for support are almost indistinguishable. This lack of originality leaves a lingering dissatisfaction.
It's worth mentioning the seemingly endless array of love interests for both Daisy and Magnolia. The same pattern emerges for Daisy, as the author pairs her with a similar roster of admirers, creating a sense of déjà vu. This recurring theme of infatuation feels like a rehashed attempt at character dynamics, lacking the depth that could have set it apart. To put it simply, these are the same characters that Hastings’ is writing about.
The most disappointing aspect is the narrative's resemblance to the prequel, almost as if it's a retelling rather than a fresh story. The inclusion of Christian's perspective adds minimal value, and overall, the book appears to sidestep the challenge of crafting a new and engaging narrative for its characters.
In conclusion, Daisy Haites' book is a mixed bag, leaning more towards disappointment than satisfaction.

✎ [ 04. ] you did what?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“you do realize gawking at me isn’t going to change anything that’s already happened at the party?”
it’s lunch break for all the students in teyvat university — and the first thing your friends do as soon as you take a single step beyond the confines of your quaint classroom, is to forcibly direct you towards one of the nearest tables without exchanging glances or another word, flocking around you like a herd with unblinking eyes and an insatiable quench of curiosity for the situation you’ve so drunkenly burrowed yourself in.
“this is seriously insane,” hutao finally comments, her meal still pristine and left untouched as she stares at you with gaping eyes. “i mean…you’ve literally never touched an alcoholic drink in your life. and the one time you get intoxicated, you actually end up kissing someone?”
“which i will forever be proud of—” venti lets out a yelp at the audible smack ayaka lands on his shoulder. “—hey, what was that for? this is progress! y/n would have never grown the balls to move on from the shrimp if she was any less wasted, you know that!”
“i feel like you should be a bit more concerned, venti…” lumine sighs, setting down her fork as she presses a hand to her forehead. “for all we know, y/n could have made out with a creepy pervert.”
“or was somehow taken advantage of.” ayaka adds, a glimpse of worry washing over her features.
“ouch. you really think i’d settle for a suspicious looking guy?” you snort, trying to lighten up the tense mood. “alright, yeah i was drunk, but i still had standards. this dude’s the real deal.”
“so he was a pervert who happened to be a good kisser.” ayaka deadpans, raising an eyebrow.
“he ‘could be’ a pervert,” venti emphasizes loudly next to her, shaking his head in disapproval. “or was probably just an innocent and harmless person we don’t even know much about.”
your level-headed friend begins to speak up to counter the presented logic, however venti briskly cuts her off with a resolute tone. “i get that you’re anxious, but i honestly think you’re overthinking this. i mean, look at y/n! she’s right there,” he jerks a hand towards you. “sitting alive before our eyes. visibly unscathed, might i add.”
“i guess she should be fretting for a good reason.” you reply, thinning your lips in a pinned frown. “frankly speaking, i don’t really care much because i got lucky that nothing else terrible happened to me.”
you sigh, leaning your head against your hand. “besides…i think i would be a bit bothered as well if i heard that she kissed a person she didn’t even remember.”
the tension in the air subdues ever so faintly, much to your relief.
“well, i suppose a lot of familiar people were there at the party…” lumine proffers, carefully trying to ease the apprehensive mood. “i reckon they would have seen y/n around and told us if anything distressing had happened to her.”
you look at ayaka who eventually exhales a deep breath, reaching for your hand to squeeze it in reassurance. “i’m sorry for being uptight…and yes, you’re both right. i’m just happy you’re okay.”
silence belatedly falls upon the shared table of friends.
“…unless,” hutao hums, wondering aloud.
“unless, what?” you ask.
“well,” she blinks. “it wouldn’t really be a cause for concern if you ended up kissing someone you knew…right?”
you spare a glance at the girl seated next to you, the group clearly attempting to process the proposed thought.
“are you suggesting…” ayaka begins cautiously.
“that y/n ended up kissing…” lumine follows, her eyebrows creased.
“…a guy i knew at the party?” you trail off, the strange idea finally registering palpably in your head.
“woah.” venti barely chokes out, astonished. “but they made out.”
“yeah. some people do it for fun.” you point out with a casual shrug — however you couldn’t deny how fast your heart began racing at the absurdity of it.
“but you’re not like that.” ayaka responds.
you stare at her, wanting to quell the thundering sensation inside your chest. “…okay. i hope you’re not implying that—”
“—one of y/n’s friends has a crush on her!” venti snaps his fingers, looking extremely amused.
your cheeks turn a shade of red at the words verbalized aloud. “yes, that.”
hutao sees you slightly deflate at the notion. “hey, what’s wrong with that?” she nudges you softly with her elbow. “it’s not exactly the end of the world.”
“well…” you dazedly poke the last bits of food with your fork. “i just don’t really feel like getting into a relationship anytime soon.” you awkwardly mutter. “or uh, anytime at all...?”
“boooo.” venti echoes from across, pouting with a look of conflict. “your physics era ended a while back, you know. it’s time to stop thinking about him.”
“gonna side with venti on this.” hutao readily agrees. “i know it hurt you, but he’s already moved on and obviously so did you. there’s literally nothing holding you back anymore.”
“it’s not like you have to be in a relationship with this person anyway.” ayaka comments, hoping to mitigate your downcast demeanor. “you never have to feel the need to pressure yourself into doing that. but i think it would be better if you at least knew the identity of who you kissed the other night. and you know…perhaps find closure and figure out how to move forward from there.”
“besides, aren’t you the least bit interested with who kissed you?” lumine notes, pushing her finished plate away before crossing her arms on the table to lean forward. “‘cause i kind of am.”
she sweeps her gaze with everyone else at the table. “and…i’m pretty sure we all are.”
you become quiet, contemplating about your own circumstances for a brief moment. did you really want to learn the identity of who you kissed the other night?
is it bound to change anything in these last few months?
were you hoping to be pleased by the overdue truth?
or were you just fearful to eventually realize just who this mysterious person was?
“you know what, fuck it.” you declare with a sudden burst of confidence, hearing excited choruses of approval and support from the rest of the group.
“hell yeah!” venti cheers.
“we’re graduating soon, you have nothing more to lose.” echoes lumine’s reassurance.
“so…does that mean you’ll all agree to help me find him?”
“of course, you weirdo.” hutao nods eagerly. “but you know, i guess it would be nice if you could remember the events of that evening quicker along the way too.”
“well naturally, the things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end,” ayaka hums thoughtfully. “if not always in the way we expect.”
and a part of you hoped that it would come soon. that the truth of whatever happened to you at the party would eventually resurface when the time was right.

Brothers React to the MC Looking at Them Lovingly
This is a personal experiment. This is the very first time I've written one of these with a goal in mind, "Make them fall in love all over again." It's a tall order. I hope I succeeded. 🙏 Special thanks to @a-chaotic-dumbass for picking the mood for this one!
Intro:
We all know that look. The one where one person stares at another like they just realized they're the only thing in the universe and they're in fucking awe of it. The kind of look that tells you they're utterly enthralled by that other person and just can't get enough of their presence. That look. Yeah, the brothers just got that look out of the MC.
Let's warm some cold hearts, everybody.
Lucifer
Lucifer was always beautiful. Always has been, as an angel or a demon.
A morning star is one that outshines all the rest. It stands out when the other stars have dimmed, holding onto its luster in defiance of the sun.
There couldn't be a truer title for Lucifer to have. Not the horrors of war nor the fires of Hell could tarnish his radiance in any way…
But there were moments, like right then, where the MC caught a glimpse of a different sort of Lucifer.
His brothers would often only see the uptight Lucifer, the practiced visage of perfection that he tried so hard to keep up…
But after a long day, when he thinks he's alone, he retires to his room to listen to his music and the difference is astonishing.
There's something so entrancingly calm about him… How the light of the fireplace flickers and dances across his alabaster skin to the subtle slouch of his posture. His face no longer marred by creases of stress and frustration…
And his expression is so pure… So tranquil and at peace… Beauty without effort. A shine that can't be ignored. A morning star, in the truest sense of the word…
It took awhile for Lucifer to see the MC leaning against his doorframe.
They were staring at him with the oddest look… Smiling like they were enraptured by something, but he didn't have a clue why. He was just sitting there…
So, naturally, he turned to suspicion.
"Am I really that amusing…?"
Frankly, he wasn’t prepared for the little laugh they let out in response.
"Mm? No, no... I'm just always so amazed by you, is all. I'll leave you to your music..."
Having thoroughly ruined the mood, the MC then turned to leave. But Lucifer was already upon them before they could step away, wrapping his arms around their waist and letting contented hum escape his chest.
"Going so soon…?"
Apparently he appreciated the compliment.
Mammon
He didn't have to do it.
When Belphie bumped into one of the House's vases, shattering it against the tile, he didn’t have to take the fall for it.
It wasn’t connected to him at all. He could have stayed quiet and no one would have pointed a finger at him for once.
But he did.
When Mammon set his phone down on the table, MC knew instantly that he had lied in the chat.
He was with them the entire day, he didn't have the time to accidentally break a vase. He hadn't even gone down that hallway all day...
But he said something anyway.
And he didn't even look fazed. He didn't turn towards them seeking approval nor did he look irritated that Belphie didn't speak up. He didn't curse at himself for doing something so self-sacrificing either...
When Mammon leaned back into the cushion of his couch, the MC saw something truly remarkable on his face… A smile. A small one, sure, but relaxed…
Assured in his own actions. Confident in his choice and accepting the consequences… undeserved, and likely thankless, they may be.
A genuine, serene smile…
Mammon wasn't sure what he expected to see when he turned to the MC. Probably confusion or disbelief that he, the Great Mammon, could be so selfless.
Definitely not the awed, lovestruck look he got...
"G-gah!" He panicked slightly and pressed himself back against the armrest of the couch in shock. "Wh-... What'cha lookin at me like that for??"
When the MC didn't answer after a few seconds and just kept staring, he honestly didn't know what to do. Were they broken or something??
"Oi, MC! I asked ya wh-Hey wait a minute!!"
He made a noise between a yelp and a shout when the MC leapt forward and latched their arms onto him. What had gotten into them??
"U-uh… MC? MC?? Damnit MC, answer me already!! Or at least stop squeezin so tight!!... MC!!!"
Leviathan
To anyone else, it was just Levi being Levi.
He had finished a new episode of his latest animated obsession and he had to share it with someone. Anyone would do, but the MC was always willing to lend an ear.
Something about Levi really changes when he talks about his passions… It's like he comes alive in a whole new way.
He speaks at a mile-a-minute, but that's because he's so excited the words fly from his mouth.
Some part of him is always bouncing, be it his leg or body. Sometimes even his tail will swish and curl behind him like an ecstatic puppy. And his eyes…
Citrine pools that glimmer and dilate from the exhilaration of it all. It's his little world and anyone can see he's thrilled to be sharing it.
You'd never know he was shy. You'd never think he'd look down himself. You'd never guess that he hid himself away… Why would someone so full of passion and life ever want to? Some things are just too beautiful to keep hidden...
Levi had only gotten six minutes into his latest rant before he finally registered how the MC was staring at him…
This man has seen enough shoujo to know what that look means and it shut him up sooo quick. If anyone else were in the room they would have seen a beet-red Levi desperately trying to hide his face.
"M-MC…! S-top staring at me like that…!!"
"Like what~?"
He didn't have to look at them to hear the teasing lilt in their voice.
"MC…" He peeked out from behind his fingers to see them still staring and covered himself up more vigorously. "Stoooop…!!!"
But secretly? He wished they'd never stop. His cheeks may have been red from embarrassment, but his heart was trying to hammer its way out of his chest to hug them itself. Hell, he'd have happily given it over to them if they'd asked…
Please just let those loving eyes be for him and him alone...
Satan
Soft isn't exactly a word anybody would use to describe Satan, least of all himself.
His anger was quick to spark, his strength was nothing to scoff at, and even his smiles were nothing but plastic for nearly all of his existence…
Nearly.
The MC learned surprisingly quick that there was one thing that could bypass all of the hidden ferocity to Satan's personality. Something that could make him melt like butter in the summer sun…
Satan had always looked a little cute when he was reading. He was easily at his most expressive when engrossed in a thrilling story or deeply intrigued by something he found between the pages of a book…
But watching Satan read about cats, as he was right then, was really something else entirely.
Maybe it was the way his emerald eyes would sparkle or the lopsided grin he just couldn't hide as he would scan the pages about the playful habits of Bengals or the relaxed nature of Ragdolls…
Maybe it was the sheer impassioned dedication he took the subject, pouring countless hours into collecting and memorizing every fact he could from their diets to coat maintenance.
Or maybe it was the sheer fact that anytime he saw a picture of kitty in-print he looked like a besotted schoolgirl drawing hearts around her crush in a teen magazine.
Really, who's to say? But to the MC, it was proof that under all that anger, there was a tender, loving center even for the smallest, softest creatures…
Satan automatically snapped his book closed when he saw MC watching him from behind a bookshelves. Caught red-handed…
He knows exactly how he looks when he's doing his research internally squealing over cat pictures so he tries to do so in private...
He was about to sputter out a defensive explanation but then he registered their face…
He'd seen that look described in stories, romance novels mostly, but he'd rarely seen it in action… and never once leveled at him with such intensity…
Not to be cliche, but frankly his heart skipped a beat.
Satan forgot about his book briefly and got up to close the distance between them, tilting their chin up to keep their eyes on him.
"Like something that you see, Kitten?"
"You could say that…"
He laughed at their attempt to play coy, but let it slide just this once… Easy to do with them looking at him so amorously.
Asmodeus
Asmo is a very popular demon. Someone so free ought to know quite a lot of people, after all.
And, of course, he had plenty of fans. He made DevilTube videos, hosted radio shows, fashion designed, and even modeled.
So it wasn't very surprising when a young demoness stopped him while he and the MC were out shopping. It wasn’t the first time he had been asked to sign autographs, but this meeting… it was different.
It was clear to them both that this girl was shy. Though she held out the paper, her eyes stayed firmly on the ground and she stumbled on her question… She likely a fan from afar, but everything about her seemed meek… unassuming.
Most people would have just gave the autograph then went on with their day. The interaction could have taken five seconds at most… but not Asmo.
He asked her name… where she was from, how she was feeling, her favorite foods, outfits, makeup, you name it. All with investment.
It was amazing to watch the shy young woman slowly open up, getting more bright and cheerful with each passing question until it evolved into a healthy conversation.
When their little meeting finally wrapped up, he gave her back the paper (now signed) but also fished out a bottle of perfume from among the mountains of bags he was carrying. He gave it to her and wouldn't hear anything to the contrary, he could always buy another.
None of his brothers ever gave Asmo enough credit for his giving nature… even if he had his own way of going about it. Though he cared so much about image and his ability to shine, he never hesitated to make sure that the people around him shined too...
Asmo waved to the fan as she scampered away and was about to  apologize to the MC when he saw their face…
The man knows this look well. He's seen it a billion times, though it was particularly cute coming from them.
"Awww MC! Taken by my beauty are you~?"
He was about ready to kiss their cheek when they responded.
"No, not your looks, Asmo… with you."
… Oh.
It was very rare to see Asmo speechless, but for a few seconds his mind seemed to take in their words… letting them fully sink in before his heart utterly melting.
Oh MC… His sweet MC!!
Asmo ended up dropping the rest of his bags just so he could properly litter his human in nuzzles and kisses, the both of them humming and giggling in delight despite their shameless PDA.
Of course it would be his MC to see that part in himself… Who else would take the time?
Beelzebub
Food is a precious resource to Beel. For him, it's a lifeline. A good meal could save him from the brink of starvation…
But that still doesn't make him incapable of sharing from time to time.
He and the MC were walking back to the House after getting takeout from Hell's Kitchen. Beel hadn't even waited until they left the restaurant to start eating his share, spilling the smell of fresh food into the air around them…
Things were going fine on their route back until they heard whimpering behind them…
A hellhound puppy, not quite old enough to bear its fangs, seemingly followed them as they were walking… It looked like it had been out for some time and eyed their food with hungry eyes, but weak posture. Who knows when it last had a meal?
The MC was about to tug at Beel's sleeve and say something, but their demon was ahead of them this time.
A casual observer might have gawked at the sight of Gluttony kneeling down to offer such a lowly creature a sandwich. But the MC knew better. When you spend your whole life hungry, nobody more than you understands that kind of pain in someone else.
This reaction wasn't out of character for Beel, it was elementary.
And when the puppy finished its meal and covered Beel's cheeks with appreciative licks, he just laughed and scratched behind its ears. Amethyst eyes looking more relieved at its health than disappointed he lost some of his lunch...
Food was Beel's lifeline, but kindness is what made him who he was…
When the pup finally scampered off, Beel looked over at the MC to tell them it'd be alright and saw their face…
He wasn't really sure what they were staring at… Did he have something between his teeth again?
"MC? Are you okay...?"
They laughed at him for some reason but pulled him in for a hug so they must have meant well.
"You're so sweet, Beel…"
Beel's never one to refuse a compliment so he just hugged them back, beaming.
"Thank you, MC…"
Belphegor
To say that Belphegor tended to be on the melancholic side would be an understatement… It wasn’t that he was incapable of expressing joy, it was just harder for him to do than most. Not helped, of course, by his tendency to keep his true feelings vague and hard to pinpoint.
But on those rare occasions where he was overjoyed… Belphie could really be something special…
The MC and Belphie were attending one of Beel's games and it was a tight one… Both teams had spent most of it tied and Beel's team was running out of time to overtake that slim margin.
Belphie had always been a supporter of his twin's athletics, but this time it was tense even for him. He kept on the edge of his seat and didn't even nod off during the breaks like he normally would… The MC could just tell how nervous he was for Beel…
But right as the time was about to run out, Beel made a last minute score and sure, the whole field erupted, but Belphie? Belphie hollered.
The normally sleepy and mellow demon was on his feet in an instant and practically shredding his vocal chords in excitement. If his tail had been out, it would have been beating against the bleachers like a war-drum. And his expression?
Belphie's smile is said to stop hearts for a reason. When he puts his all into a grin it's almost like he ascends to Heaven once more, as pure as an angel's choir and as warm as a summer's breeze… Nothing in his eyes but pride and adoration for his beloved twin brother.
Truly, a heartwarming sight to behold…
Belphie didn't calm down until the rest of the crowd settled and was about to point out Beel's skill to the MC when he noticed their face.
… oh no… Why do they look so sappy…?
"You really love your brother, don't you?"
Belphie quickly hid his thoughts behind an irritated frown and plopped back down in his seat… but that didn't shield them from seeing his pink cheeks.
"Of course I do. What kind of question is that?"
He debated just joining Beel on the field to hide his embarrassment when he heard them snicker back.
"Yeah, you're right… Don't mind me."
Oh he minded. He minded a lot that he let his carefully veiled image slip like that. But thinking back to that smile on their face…?
Maybe being a little open wasn't so bad after all...

Molly's reaction to finding out Ron and Hermione are together post-battle (if you feel like it, no pressure).
I feel like basically everyone except Ron and Hermione saw this coming from miles away, so I imagine Molly would be pretty chill. Thanks for the prompt!
***
Sleeping Arrangements
The first night, he wasn’t sure his mum had even noticed.
They were all grieving from the loss of Fred and the others, and the house was full as there had been no question of any of them leaving Hogwarts for anywhere but the Burrow in the aftermath of the battle, and even the Lovegoods were there since their house had exploded earlier in the spring, so Luna was sleeping on what was usually Hermione’s cot in Ginny’s room, and Ron was sure nobody with the possible exception of Harry had noticed that Hermione was staying in his room. With him. In his bed.
It had happened quietly, without question, without any fanfare, and without any of the awkwardness that Ron had long assumed would naturally accompany the process of beginning a romantic relationship with his best friend. They had simply trudged up to Ron’s room in the attic, the three of them, and Hermione had slid under his covers without a word. He had slid in beside her and wrapped an arm around her, and she turned her head to kiss his cheek with a whispered goodnight, the whole routine as effortless as if they’d been doing it for years.
The second night, he thought that his mum probably had noticed—nothing ever did get by her, really—but was letting it go on account of Hermione’s nightmares.
Ron had gone downstairs in search of another blanket, because despite the rising temperatures of the encroaching summer, Hermione never could seem to get warm, and all the blankets they’d had on the hunt were currently hanging out to dry after a much needed wash. He’d been on the landing, about to head back upstairs with the old afghan, when the voices of his parents, Bill, and Fleur drifted up from the sitting room.
“Still don’t know exactly what happened to them out there,” Bill was saying, “but they were in bad shape when they turned up.”
“ ‘ermione was tortured,” Fleur put in. “I am certain.”
“The poor dears,” Molly sighed, barely loud enough for Ron to hear. “Hermione must be having nightmares about it all. Hopefully staying with Ron and Harry helps.”
Ron had hurried back up the stairs then, feeling slightly guilty. It wasn’t that it was untrue; Hermione had been having nightmares most nights since Malfoy Manor, and Ron and Harry were frankly no strangers to them either. It’s just that that wasn’t exactly the reason she was sleeping in his bed, either. The real reason being that they were simply so happy to be alive that any minute they didn’t spend together, awake or asleep, felt like a waste. And if much of the time they spent awake when they should have been sleeping was consumed with exploring their newly formed relationship, who was Ron to argue?
It wasn’t until the third night, when his mum very nonchalantly suggested that he add a couple of drops of Dreamless Sleep potion to the bedtime cup of tea he was making for Hermione, that it occurred to him. Even though they hadn’t exactly been hiding it, they hadn’t really been flaunting their new relationship either. His mum knew that Hermione was sleeping in his room, but for all she knew, Ron still just had his two best friends up there; it may as well have been Harry and Neville for all the fuss she’d made. He had no intention of letting Hermione be forced to sleep anywhere else, but he needed to at least be honest with his mother.
“Mum? I need to talk to you about Hermione.”
“Yes, dear? What about her?”
They were alone in the kitchen, and Ron turned anxiously to face Molly, who was looking at him seemingly without the slightest inclination of the salacious news he was about to deliver. “We’re er...well, we’re together now. And I just thought you should know that, since...y’know, she’s sleeping in my room and all.” He felt his ears reddening, but he met his mother’s gaze determinedly.
To his astonishment, Molly just laughed lightly. “Is that all?”
“Isn’t that enough?” Maybe she hadn’t understood. Maybe she was delirious, sleep-deprived. The past few days hadn’t been easy on any of them. Maybe he needed to be more straightforward. “Hermione’s my girlfriend. My girlfriend is staying in my room.”
“Yes dear, I understand.”
“But…” Surely she had explicitly outlawed this very act at some point in his life. With his siblings, if not with him—after all, his only other girlfriend had never even been to his house, much less slept there. “Aren’t you upset? It’s not...I dunno, proper or something.”
“Well, honestly, I’m not sure how much trouble the two of you could get up to, sharing a room with Harry,” Molly replied with a chuckle as she stood and filled her own mug with tea.
“What if Harry starts staying with Ginny when Luna goes home?” Ron asked, more out of curiosity as to how far he could push this topic than anything else.
Molly patted his cheek before turning to head upstairs herself, calling over her shoulder as she went, “Then you and Ginny both know where to find me if you need a refresher on contraception charms.”

Stone Skipping || CH2 ; 𝘢 𝘣𝘪𝘨 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳'𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯
Tumblr media
Half a year had passed since [name] and Senku had been revived at the very same day. Experiments were conducted, their home slightly improved, but the two had still made no other progress with the revival serum. Despite that, neither had given up, instead opting to continue trying.
The two teenagers had been gathering sticks in an area near their home, each having an axe of their own. “[nickname],” Senku looks down at their form, who sat in the very same branch he was standing on. Said person looked up at him, tilting their head. “You brought the basket, right?” They nodded in response, silently pointing at the basket below their branch. He nodded thankfully, adjusting the sticks gathered in his arms.
He could see them move to take it from his grasp, but he gave a pointed look, saying, “Don’t you dare take it. I already made you carry three other baskets back home.” A pout overtook their face, but nonetheless, they nodded and sat back down as he cut even more sticks from the upper branches.
rustle, rustle
step, step, step
[name] perked up at the sounds, turning their head to look past Senku’s form. Not even a moment later, an oh-so-ever-familiar form popped from the bushes as he pushed it aside, breathing heavily. The smile on their face widened as Taiju’s eyes widened at the sight of the duo. “S-Senku..! [nickname]!” His eyes teared up.
I found them! They’re alive!
From beside the shorter teenager, Senku smirked at him. “Kukuku, so you finally woke up, eh? You great big oaf, stop making your sibling worry for so long. You don’t want to see them with white hair so quickly, now do you?” He quickly moved down from the tree, offering his hand to [name] after, helping them down.
Immediately upon the teenager’s safe landing on the floor, Taiju started wailing, opening his arms to hurriedly give a hug their way. Not even concerned in the slightest, all [name] did was open their arms, beaming right back.
"You're alive, you're alive!! Senku, [nickname]! I c-can't believe it.."
Well, if [name] wasn't the slightest bit concerned, Senku most definitely was. Placing a foot on his face, the male hurriedly pushed the shortest out of Taiju's way, which ended up being behind him. "Don't hug either of us when you're buck naked, idiot! I'll fucking kill you!" [name] gave his back a pat, shaking their head. "Sen-chan, don't be too mean. You know it's completely just how Tai-chan is." They smiled, turning to the said person. "It's nice to see you after so long.. I would give you a hug, but.. I don't think Sen-chan would let me."
Taiju returned his sibling figure's smile. "It's okay! I get it.." He scratches his head sheepishly, laughing it off. "I think?" They giggled in response, motioning their head to follow them, which he did. Starting their trek back home, Senku spoke, "As of today, it's October 5th, in the year 5738 AD. How long you planning on sleeping in, huh?"
He pointed at [name], who was beside him, skipping as they went. "We've been awake and working for over a half a year now." Taiju blinked in surprise, the information slowly processing in his brain as seconds passed. "Huh?" The brawn of the group looked over to the other brain, confusion evident on his face. "How does Senku know just precisely what the date is..?"
[name] closed their eyes and smiled at him. "Sen-chan just counted, is all." Senku picked at his ear, scoffing. "As if there's another way of keeping track."
Another slow moment of processing.
"..So then, inside that darkness.. the whole time, you.." He glanced at [name] once more. "Did you too..?" His tone of voice had softened considerably, and so had his features. They shook their head. "It was just him, and I knew even then." They smiled and looked forward as Senku pushed aside the branches ahead of them.
"Even if I was able to wake up through sheer willpower alone.. If I were to wake up without means of survival in the midst of winter and with no food supply, it'd be game over. That's why, in order to survive, it was essential that I start in spring."
"That's also precisely why Sen-chan needs an accurate calendar," [name] added, "He wouldn't be able to know otherwise, and luck would be too much of a risk to depend on." Taiju placed a hand under his chin, opening his mouth to ask another question when Senku jerked his head to the front. "Hey, we're here. Don't just stand around gawking, get your ass over here and help out."
Brown eyes widened in astonishment. It wasn't no fancy house, but it was stable and enough. A simple rack made of sticks and vines leaned on the tree's huge trunk, holding several stone spears. "I haven't had enough manpower. [nickname] was of great help, but I didn't want to burn them out than what was necessary. That'd be stupid, I'd be working the only other person in this world death. It took up to an entire day of just drawing up life and survival plans on my own, while they hunted for food and materials. To progress forward into some kind of civilization from here.." He trailed off, glancing behind him to where the two stood, listening to his explanation.
"We've been waiting for you all this time," Taiju pointed to himself, confusion heavily lacing his face. "Yes, you, damnit Taiju. We waited for you because we were both ten billion percent sure that you were alive!" [name] walked forward, now beside the scientist. "You decided to tell Yuzu-chan about your feelings prior to the petrification, and we both knew Tai-chan well enough to know that you wouldn't give up after deciding so."
"Especially not after being cut off in the middle of a man's resolve," he huffed and smirked. "You weren't ball-less to the point of giving up and throwing in the towel after just a measly thousand years!"
Taiju looked down, clenching his fist. It was silent for a few seconds, but as always, with them, it doesn't last long. The fiery determination they had gotten accustomed to seeing had returned ten-fold, and they could only stare as he agreed.
"You're damned right!"
The scientist of the quartet looked over at his assistant. "Can ya get him some damn clothes already?" His nose scrunched in disgust as he pointed shakily at the muscular student, earning a confused and completely innocent look in return. [name] laughed at his obvious disgruntlement, nodding. "I'll go get clothes for Tai-chan!" They waved before carefully climbing their so-called ladder and hurrying inside.
◇─◇──◇─────◇──◇─◇
It didn't take long before Taiju had gotten his clothes, and before [name] was forced to rest by the one and only scientist of the group. The two had bickered back and forth repeatedly; Senku insisted that they take a break, since they apparently wouldn't be getting a lot even with Taiju around. Despite his confusion, Taiju agreed with this, making them reach a compromise.
[name] would rest just as the two wanted them to, but not up in the hut. Instead, they'd be napping on a covered area on the ground near the fire Senku was trying to make.
"When we need to use our heads.. I'll leave the thinking up to the two of you, Senku." Taiju glanced at his napping sibling. "And when we need to use our bodies.. you leave that to me." Senku glanced over as well. They looked comfortable enough, not at all irritated by the grass or the fire crackling nearby. Sleeping like a baby, they simultaneously thought, amused.
Senku turned towards Taiju once more. The time humanity took to climb from the stone age to our previous civilization.. was two million years. But, we're going to dash all the way back to the top all at once. "We'll take back the world and I'll identify the scientific cause on why we turned into stone, and how we were revived.. with the help of [name]."
Careful not to shout as he usually does, Taiju nodded and added, "And then.. I'll save Yuzuriha!"
"Three high school kids.. are going to build civilization from zero. We'll become the Adam and Eve of this world." Senku smirked widely, standing up and placing his hands on his waist. "Now, things are starting to get exciting!"
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
The two were calm and quite frankly, inspired by each other's goals, only to panic as [name] sleepily moved around, adjusting their place during their sleep. They covered each other's mouths and stared worriedly down at the shortest of them three, but fortunately, they didn't wake up. Taiju and Senku looked at each other and nodded, vowing not to cause anymore noise.
Senku pointed at their tree house and mouthed, "Bring them up." The other caught on to this instantly and carefully scooped them up in his arms, making sure that they were comfortable and left asleep. Then, without much difficulty, Taiju brought them upstairs, his friend following in tow. He placed them down on their make-shift bed, pulling the extra animal skin they had used as a blanket over them not long after, patting their head affectionately.
Taiju blinked and turned to Senku. "Wait, so was it just you guys this whole time?" The male in question raised his eyebrow. "Yeah, it's just been us." Taiju stared at him, expecting him to say something. "Why are you staring at me like that for??" He opened his mouth, pointing as he whispered, "You didn't tell them about your fee—"
Senku quickly put a zip on his mouth, grumbling.
◇─◇──◇─────◇──◇─◇
The next morning, [name] had woken up to Senku and Taiju still sleeping. It must be pretty early still.. They pushed the blanket away from their form, standing up silently. The teen carefully walked down the ladder, keeping an eye out on the two until they were out of their vision. A yawn escaped their mouth as they stretched their arms and shoulders, shaking their head as they did. What to do..?
[eye color] eyes looked around. They could go hunting for food like mushrooms and animals, but it would be more efficient for Taiju to do it, because he was literal brawn. Though, maybe I should come with Tai-chan later on if he does end up gathering food.. He might take poisonous mushrooms along. [name] could make more jars or baskets, but Senku would most definitely scold them for working too hard. Again.
Honestly, they can't see what he's talking about.
So instead, they opted to walk towards the high school primate's statue. If they could remember correctly, which they could, Tsukasa Shishio's statue was not too far from Yuzuriha and the camphor tree.
True to their memory, it really wasn't far. No animals in sight, nor any other statues in his area. Nature's green, green, and more green is all that could be seen. Pretty, [name] smiled to themselves, gathering the bunch of dahlias and other flowers into their arms. Without much struggle at all, they weaved the bunch into a gorgeous flower crown, one that would surely fit snugly on Tsukasa's head.
They brought it on the male's head, fixing the vines and the petals softly, making sure that his vision wasn't obscured whatsoever. Next, they took a few steps back, admiring their work. As I thought, it does fit Tsuka-chan. [name] nodded in approval and sat down on a nearby root, humming a song they especially liked from back then.
I wonder how everything became like this.. A time-lapse would be interesting to see.
They looked down on the dirt. It was devoid of rocks, unlike the last few areas they've been in. Upon realizing, the teen immediately takes a stick and begins drawing on the ground. Three pairs of nubs.. three heads too. Leek for hair, spiky hair, wavy hair.. Rocket ship. Proud, they grinned and tilted their head, staring down at their work.
It wasn't the best of art, of course. It was merely three little chubby figures that represented the trio that they so deeply treasured. Their proud green faded, and soon, a frown had taken its place. Something's missing.. Quickly, [name] erased the rocket ship outline with their foot to make space. Then, without a shadow of a doubt, they added one more figure.
Long hair and buffy arms.. It's Tsuka-chan!
The grin from before returned anew. The rocket ship outline was quickly drawn again, and for this time, they were satisfied.
"I wonder if Tai-chan is already awake.. or Sen-chan.." They yawned and stood up, brushing away the not-so imaginary dirt around of their skirt. [eye color] eyes glanced behind to check on the statue one last time before smiling. "I'll see you soon, Tsuka-chan.."
With that, they turned back, walking back home.
◇─◇──◇─────◇──◇─◇
When they had arrived, the two were already awake and kicking, arranging their respective areas. Taiju had noticed them first, and with a happy shout, had alerted Senku as well. "You're back," the scientist nodded towards them in greeting. In contrast to his reaction, Taiju immediately got down from their little hut and bounded towards his sibling, hugging them tightly.
"Keep hugging them like that and they'll run out of air, you big idiot." Senku retorted as he followed suit, albeit less enthusiastically and more calmly. [name] only smiled in return, patting the taller on the back. "Big oaf, you up for gathering food?" Enthusiastically, the male in mention nodded his head, quickly taking a basket from nearby. [eye color] eyes glanced at the scientist, as if waiting.
Feeling their expectant stare, Senku snickered and picked at his ear with his pinky. "Of course, you're joining him too [nickname]. Keep him out of trouble, and make sure the idiot doesn't get himself attacked or poisoned." He pressed a hand against his mouth, as if trying to block the snickers.
Not that he was actually trying, though. It was actually the opposite.
Satisfied and amused, [name] closed their eyes and smiled, taking a basket as well. Taiju immediately dashes off, leaving a trail of dust behind him, and causing it to spread everywhere. [name] coughed and looked away from all the sand and dust before waving at the scientist. "We'll make sure not to take too long, Sen-chan.."
Senku gave another nod before turning away. The [hair color]-haired teen hurried, and with some effort, was able to catch Taiju before he could get too far from them.
"[nickname], what should we gather first?" [eye color] eyes looked around cautiously, taking in the environment. From what they could tell, there were some pigs nearby. The rustling as well as their familiar grunts is what gave it away. They quickly pressed a finger to their mouth, to which Taiju immediately silenced himself, waiting for their next order.
"There are pigs nearby. We don't know where the mushrooms are at right now, and since the pigs seem to be a closer choice, let's go with that.." [name] spoke as softly as they could, but loud enough for Taiju to still understand their message. He nodded in determination and moved to single-handedly take any pig on, but stopped as they placed a pale hand on their arm, halting him in his position. He looked towards his sibling in confusion, tilting his head.
[name] smiled at him and shook their head, motioning him to stay still, so he did. Taiju watched curiously as the teen quietly grabbed onto a branch and pulled their upper body up, causing them to now stand. Surprisingly enough, despite all the movement, the rustle of leaves seemed natural, as if it was just a rustle of the wind and not a teenager climbing a tree. He could only watch as [name] looked down at him from their position above, saying, "Please stay here, Tai-chan.. I'll bring them to you, so brace yourself to catch one or two, okay?"
Taiju beamed up at them. "Okay." He responded, lowering his stance and opening his arms wide. His sibling smiled at his determination and switched from tree to tree, getting closer to the area of the pigs, as evidenced by the growing sound of grunts. Few adults.. few young ones, [name] mused to themselves. Some squeals were pitched, but majority weren't.
I can't overwhelm Tai-chan with too many pigs. I can't trap them when they're this close either. The very best I can do is to get one or two younger pigs.. But how do I? They glanced around. They moved to another tree, one that was to the left of the pigs. Tai-chan is to the right. The pigs can't move to the north, there's no entrance or exit there. It's blocked. [name] quickly stood still and observed keenly from above.
There were four adults, but only two piglets to be seen. Sen-chan would be satisfied with one, or at the very most, two of them.
And so, they formulated a plan.
Without further a do, they dropped from the tree, not bothering to cover the noise. The pigs became alert, and soon enough, their eyes had caught on to the teen's form. They grew increasingly loud in sound and scattered, moving towards their left, the other remaining direction for escape. Quickly reacting, [name] ran towards the two mini-groups (stomping and making loud noise with their feet all the while), forcing the piglets to separate from their adults. This time, they moved towards Taiju's direction, just as they had planned.
[name] immediately began creating even more noise, as well as increasing their speed. In panic, the pigs hurried even closer towards Taiju's direction.
Any moment now. [eye color] eyes made contact with familiar brown ones, and they nodded. Taiju shouted as he tackled the two piglets into his grasp, making the shorter of the two smile and stop abruptly. With heavy breathing, they helped him place one piglet in each of their baskets.
"That was a good idea, [nickname]!" Taiju laughed and gave them a particularly hard pat on the back in congratulations, causing them to lose all the air they had regained and double over, coughing all the while.
"Ack— I'm sorry [nickname]!!"
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
"Wow, you guys got so much," Senku stared down at the two's baskets, which now sat on the floor. "You got some crazy cheats going with your endurance there, Taiju.." He trailed off as he glanced to his assistant. "You didn't just dash wherever did you? [nickname] looks like they went through a hurricane." The scientist laughed as he pointed at them.
He wasn't wrong there. The poor [hair color]-haired teen had their hair all over their face, with tangles way more than they'd like. Leaves, petals, and even sand had gotten into their hair as well; Senku could only wonder what the hell Taiju had put them through to come back this haggard. [name] only smiled patiently as Taiju turned red in embarrassment, causing him to laugh even more.
"He did exactly that, actually.." Their words only made Taiju shout apologies, to which they shook their head at in amusement. "I couldn't stop him at all, sorry Sen-chan.." They chuckled and jokingly bowed their head in apology. Senku snickered again and walked towards them, patting away all the sand away from their hair. He removed the leaves and petals along the way, tugging gently at the strands that had gotten tangled.
"Don't you worry about it at all. I can't blame you when he's like this." He ignored Taiju's pouting at the side and only continued fixing his [hair color]-haired friend's head. It didn't take much arranging to actually clean [name] up, and soon enough, all was well. They smiled at him gratefully and he returned it slightly before backing away and moving towards the baskets.
Taiju watched in curiosity as he sat on the ground, expecting him to do something completely different, only to see him blatantly separating what they had found. [name], on the other hand, watched in amusement at their brother's reaction as Senku began listing them all off. "Amanita virosa, poisonous! Hypsizygus tessellatus, brown clamshell, edible! Amanita muscaria, Fly agaric, poisonous! Can't you just tell that thing's no good?! It looks like it came from Mario!"
With every mentioned name, Taiju's confused and aghast expression worsened, making them chuckle. "Calm down, Sen-chan.. That was a pretty good haul for the first time. I'm sure Tai-chan will take that into mind next time?" The two looked over to him. One stare was filled with doubt, and the other was one of utter patience and belief. Taiju doesn't respond, only choosing to blink at them in confusion. Senku sighed, "He probably won't, you know. Oh well, I'll bid you good luck when the time comes."
The scientist takes a few of the edible mushrooms and placed them on the sticks over the fire. The trio surrounded the fire they had made in silence, waiting for Senku's word. He first handed a decent-sized one over to Taiju, then proceeded to give an even bigger mushroom to the other teen. [name] blinked slowly as Senku gave them a stern glance. "Get some more fat in your bones, you look like you could get blown away by the wind any moment now."
From beside the [hair color]-haired teen, Taiju also added, "You always ate too less during lunch time too! Get some more food!" He immediately begins handing more mushrooms over to them, with Senku following right away. "I don't think I can stomach t-this much, you two.." [name] gently pushed the food away and just stuck with the one the scientist had given them. "But, I guess I can try eating this one at least..?" they smiled.
It wasn't the best compromise, but it satisfied the two males enough to leave them alone for now. Taiju took the first bite, making [name] and Senku stare expectantly. "D-Delicious!" He shouted in glee, "What'd you season these with?!" Senku grinned and begin taking normal-sized bites into his food as well.
"Just regular old salt that [nickname] and I extracted from the sea water. With just salt added, humans can eat just about anything. Salt is also indispensable when preserving food, and probably was the primitive man's greatest discovery." He explained. Taiju, upon finishing his mushroom, thanked the male whole-heartedly. "For all the things things I'd never be able to figure out! Both of you. I'll repay you in kind with determination and strength!"
He then finished his food and stood up, puffing his chest out in determination. Without even a warning, he took a basket and scurried off, shouting, "All right!! Time to go gather on the back side!"
Senku had opened his mouth to tell him that it was okay, but he had already been too far from their sight. He shook his head and turned to his side, where they sat with an amused smile and a still completely unfinished mushroom. "I don't get how you can keep up with him. He has too much stamina, he has got to be cheating with something." He grumbled, and gathered the sticks his friend had left into his hands. "Should you really be asking me that, Sen-chan? You have known them longer than I have, if anything, I'm surprised you've survived this long.." [name] chuckled and continued eating.
"Speaking of which, the back side is near towards the cave where you came from, right, Sen-chan?" The scientist hummed in confirmation. "Yeah, why?" He glanced over his shoulder, seeing them stand up and brush away any dirt that could have gotten on their skirt. "Maybe we should follow Tai-chan, he might assume there's someone else out there aside from us if he sees the pot.." Not expecting it, Senku let out an amused scoff. "I wouldn't be surprised if he did, he is a big oaf after all. Sure, let's go. His mind can go to absurd places and it'd be easier to explain when we're there."

[ Author's Note ] // So far, these are all the chapters I've pulled from quotev. As of this very moment, I'm working on two separate chapters: a 100-hearts special, and the next regular chapter. For those of you who found this in Tumblr, I made a poll before on what the readers would like for the special. As it turns out, 'Crossover Traveling' won. No one really expressed what they wanted aside from my friends, who I asked personally. I ended up choosing Kimetsu no Yaiba as your destination. That's all for this note, thank you so much for reading, and for your time!

how was new years ?
it was extremely chaotic in the most joyful and embarrassing way possible... so much alcohol was involved, it's the most I've drank in 2021 probably. I truly was astonished I made it out alive with no hangover the next day. some parts are a blur but I remember excusing myself to cut up a bit of my acid tab in the fancy restaurant bathroom and losing 1/8 of it... tried my hardest to find it but it was gone gone. so like me to lose it... I need to get my shit together in 2022! after the restaurant my friends and I headed over to a bar and we had a lot more drinks and the bar played all too well by taylor swift and besties... I didn't want to be that person but I started tearing up bc like I realised I did go through a lot. and I'm so extremely lucky & grateful for the people around me! then the bartender gave me a free shot while I was crying which I thought was really sweet of them 🥲 I also just had to video myself during the all too well moment and post it on IGS which is frankly embarrassing but. whatever it was NYE and who's even going to remember right! all in all I got to spend it with the people I love and I was really grateful for it ❤
how was yours? I hope you had just as great of a time 🤍

Two Faced | Chapter Two
Tumblr media
↳ levi ackerman, the very person who was about to kindly behead you by a surprising turn of events manages to become your loving husband? you would be elated if this was true love, but it's all thanks to a mysterious magic spell that your life is spared. for now at least.
pairing :: duke!levi x duchess!reader genre :: royal au, angst, fluff, slice of life etc word count :: 2.6k → click here for the next part !
You're apprehensive the first few days. Peering over your shoulder when you walk through the halls of the Duke's estate. You often find yourself fiddling with the only real possession you have remaining from the entire ordeal - a silver locket given to you by your mother, it hasn't stood the test of time, it's littered in small scratches and it's clearly seen better days. Neither does it shine the way it used to but you need it to feel at ease.
Currently, sitting in the estate's library you attempt to focus on reading the book in front of you. It details the life of an orphaned child, the rest of the plot is a blur to you as this task is not done with the intent of enjoying the literature but with the purpose of distracting yourself.
You've been avoiding Duke Ackerman for days on end now. He's made the occasional visit to your quarters, always politely asks if he's permitted to speak to you - allowed to take even a second of your precious time. You decline every single request, your excuses range from "I'm feeling particularly ill today." to"I would like to rest early.", He never inquires after you've responded. You do however find he communicates in a variety of different ways ; Meals of the finest standard, A luxurious place to live, the maids also offer you the opportunity to venture out into the beautiful gardens but you know he's asked them to do so.
Quite frankly, you're still petrified and are unable to fathom what happened that fateful day, you had never been one to put much faith in God especially after all he had put you through, but maybe there was a God or a higher being or a somebody who helped you in your moment of despair.
Eyes darting from your page to the door of the library, you swear you see the door knob twist and you hastily double take. Nothing looks out of the ordinary so you allow yourself to shake it off. Your eyes droop shut as you knead your shoulders attempting to relieve some of the tension you feel. Recently, you find it to be an ordinary occurrence for your muscles to seize at the worst possible opportunities.
"May I speak to you?" A beaming voice enters the room from behind you but never had such a cheerful voice made you freeze in fright. It's him.
At his appearance you begin to think of all sorts of scenarios and outcomes but the specific thought you've been actively ignoring slyly slips into view. What if the spell weakens?
Fate is an ever changing entity, one minute it may be in your favour, the next... you'd rather not delve any deeper into that alternative.
Jumping to your feet you don't look in his direction trying to keep the contact you have with him minimal.
He audibly huffs and just as you're about to scurry away he speaks again. "Halt your movements."
Something about his voice beckons you to do so and you anxiously face him.
"Did I come off too bold?" The expression he makes is unlike any other you've seen from him before. His eyes twinkle and it looks as if he's holding his breathe expectantly. It's almost comical how different he looks and you can't stop your cheeks from flushing. He's quite adorable under this spell.
But then a flashback is presented to you. The anger in his eyes, the cold feeling of his sword, if he were any closer he would have been swiftly slicing your neck open. Y/N, you were seconds away from becoming a corpse you remind yourself fiercely.
"I'm not doing very well at courting you, Am I?" He frowns as he asks but he's not upset, perhaps disappointed.
Looking at the floor you hear him bombard you with even more questions, he's crowding around you now like a swarm of bees - somehow he manages the job of an entire hive on his own. No one has ever taken such an interest in you.
Your conscience tells you that you will regret this later on down the line, it tells you this will come back and bite you incredibly hard, you will regret being so ignorant and trusting yet you yield. Is it so wrong for you to consider feeling affection? When the Duke snaps out of this spell he will promptly execute you and you're aware of that fact, so what reason is there to cower away in fear?
For all your life you have never experienced the true feeling of love. You had mother's maternal love, which hadn't lasted very long at all. Never would you have any other opportunity to experience the romantic intimate kind involving a significant other. If you were to die you may as well play the role of his wife for as long as this spell wills it. Perhaps he'll receive his memories back so late he forgets or simply no longer cares. Part of you hopes he doesn't remember at all.
"Would you like to..." you pause already regretting what you're doing but before you can continue the Duke cuts you off.
"Have tea together? Explore the gardens together?"
What really sticks out to you most is how he casually emphasizes the word together. He really doesn't care what activity you engage in as long as it's with him. You feel your heart twist in your chest. This is dangerous.
He's eager, leaning forward with wide eyes. It feels odd having someone care about your input, even more odd seeing that person smile at you with the same spirit of an elated child. It's bittersweet knowing his true character.
"Let's have some tea."
Tumblr media
A few months have passed since then. Surprisingly you're still alive and the spell shows no signs of wearing away any time soon.
After the raid at your palace he's been nothing but sweet towards you. At first many people were against him courting you and a handful of his advisors attempted to steer his sights away due to suspicions and speculation that you were a "sinful witch" who had manipulated or even seduced him.
The day he had heard those rumors he caused an uproar and had fired the royal advisor who spread them around. "Impertinent fools have the audacity to make such comments about my Duchess." You would usually add in you were not worth such respect considering you were not officially a Duchess but the fiery blaze in his eyes had stopped you.
"Hey Lev, lets go have some tea they've learnt their lesson." You shot the gossiping maids a sympathetic look.
Being under the spell does not make him more tolerable towards other people is what you learnt that day.
Multiple women all with visuals worlds more appealing than your own approach him, some even sent by his advisors to set you up. They test if his love is strong enough to withstand the attacks of others. Time and time again he proves everyone wrong and doesn't think for a second to give up on you.
You're glad for that because through these few months you've ascertained how much you love the Duke for who he is. Well, who he's acting as. You want to slam your head against a concrete wall repeatedly when you think about the level of affection and tenderness you hold towards the man but you can not lie and say you hate him.
The fact that before meeting him you lived a life lacking of love and affection does not help your case either. It only makes it harder.
But it's painfully obvious to you that this is all truly one sided. You aren't really in love with the Duke but you're in love with the magic holding him hostage.
You share these thoughts to yourself as you take a short sip from your tea cup. Sasha has left the room to fetch some pastries and sweets. She takes her job seriously as head maid (you never address her as such because really she's just a friend to you). It's a chilly day hence why you've covered yourself up in a shawl, it coincidentally matches the beige drapes.
Suddenly a boy who you recognize to be one of the young apprentices by the name of Eren bursts through the doors of your tea room. His hair is all over the place and he's panting as he tries to formulate a sentence.
"Duke." Puff. " Duke Ackerman" Puff. "Refuses to return to the Imperial Palace and is threatening the Emperor stating he won't return to his duties!"
You ignore it and try to keep to your own affairs because who are you to interfere in military business? It's looked down upon to involve yourself in such matters.
You send him off and in the mean time Sasha makes her way back.
A few minutes later as the both of you are munching on a particularly sweet macron the palace's butler bursts in the same way as Jaeger and tries to get a word in but Sasha manages to interject first.
"My lady, perhaps you should check in on the Duke." she suggests.
You try to speak but the Butler cuts in abruptly.
"Duchess. I'm afraid he hasn't ate a meal in five days. Please talk to him."
"Mike there is no need to call me a Duchess when I hold no such title...wait the Duke hasn't ate for five days???"
You find it unbelievable that Levi has forgotten to eat or possibly starved himself for something.
Making your way to his office you enter with a speech prepared about how eating is one of the blessings you've been given and how it should be appreciated but instead you're met face to face with a trail of rose petals that lead to the Duke.
You stare at him in confusion. He holds a bouquet of roses in his hands and they kiss his chest, He gives you a look of admiration that can only be described as the look that is reserved for your one true love. His eyes glimmer and they shine along with his glossy raven hair. You look him up and down in astonishment.
He's arranged all this for you.
"I'd do anything to have you be by my side for all of eternity. Will you honor me with the opportunity of taking your hand?"
Just looking at this entirely different version of the Duke, you feel relieved and in the moment you recklessly accept his proposal. You know it's stupid, you know it's ignorant, you know you should be denying him but you can't make yourself ignore the will of your heart.
"I hope to live a long life. One with you present." he whispers into the shell of your ear, it tingles.
After weeks of the Duke's courting you accept his marriage proposal and the both of you quietly wed two months later.
Tumblr media
He's so kind and affectionate that you're plagued with nightmares where the spell wears off.
In your nightmares he continues what he left unfinished. Every time he's about to plunge his sword into the depths of your chest he wakes you up and caresses your face in between his large hands. He wraps his arms around you after some time. Once your breathing relaxes he asks what has made you cry and you can't do anything to explain. It only hurts more seeing his concerned expression. The way his eyes flick between your eyes and trembling lips, you want to tell him the truth, instead you state that you"had a nightmare, and don't wish to talk about it." You don't want him asking questions over it.
It's another Wednesday and you're pacing back and forth in front of his office door arguing with yourself about whether or not you should enter. Finally, you decide to make your entrance and peek inside. You hear him arguing with his advisors as normal.
"Instead of blithering like a idiot and making excuses why don't yo-" he's midway through his sentence when he sees you at the doorway.
Dropping the previous matter he rushes over towards you and scoops you up in his arms. Smiling up at you, you smile back sheepishly ignoring the stares of his staff.
"Honey, why did you leave me? Where did you go?" He whines into your neck and you try to push him away shyly but he won't budge.
Everyone around you grimaces at his usual mood swings as well as the heavy flirting that he's targeting at you.
"You haven't come to eat dinner with me for three nights. You're the workaholic who left me." You swiftly retort his point and you pout at the end of your sentence. He pouts back and you can see his cheeks are tinged a blushed pink.
"Then we must dine immediately, you should have informed me that I had made you feel so neglected, my darling!"
After making your way to the dining room you and Levi are conversing happily as per usual when you spot his highly agitated secretary Mikasa. It settles in that she's been standing there for a considerable amount of time, time flies when you and Levi speak. She's clearly waiting for him to report back to duty.
The first time you had met Mikasa she was highly suspicious of you and would keep an eye on your movements at all times (literally) , you thought she perhaps fancied the Duke but later learnt that she was related to him and that was probably why she was on edge at the appearance of a new individual. Besides all that she's sweet really, sometime she joins you and Sasha for tea and you happily converse. She isn't much of a talker, more of a listener which works out well considering how extroverted Sasha is and how you love to story tell. You've shared many fond memories with her.
That's why you place a hand on Levi's shoulder and interrupt him.
"Why don't you return to your work? It's about time I send you back now." You suggest but he rolls his eyes in annoyance.
"Why do you keep on trying to get rid of me? I want to stay for a little longer. After all you are my wife. You count as one of my duties. If not the most important duty of all!" He's about to break out into one of his embarrassing speeches and you want to save Mikasa from that.
"Mikasa really needs you to complete your other duties. Do it for me Lev." You try and butter him up with the mention of his nickname. As expected he perks up and stands up to leave, not before placing a soft kiss on your cheek.
"Ah Lev, I'll be taking a short trip out today. Is that alright with you?"
You don't specify that 'out' means the Sunday Market place, he'll ask question after question.
He holds onto your chin with his thumb and leans in for a chaste kiss.
"Of course my darling. Be careful."
He giddily waves at you as he leaves and you wave back with the same enthusiasm. You giggle at the sight of Mikasa practically gagging at the two of you and glaring daggers at Levi.
The door then shuts and you're left alone.
All that accompanies you is silence and you purse your lips together trying to keep it together. Recently as soon as he turns away from you all you can think about is how this love of his is a hoax.
He doesn't really love you.
That doesn't stop all the sweet words he's ever uttered from flooding your memory.
"You're mine and I'm yours."
"My beautiful love."
"I love you I mean it." It hurts. He doesn't mean it.
But you'll keep the charade up. You'll find a way to keep him this way forever. It's selfish but you can't be blamed, It keeps you safe and happy.
Love is nice but you would prefer to live.

The Revived - Chapter 18: Exceeding
This is chapter 18 of the Dream SMP multichapter fic @dramaticsnakes and I wrote together! I hope you’ll enjoy!
AO3
Read in order (on Tumblr)
Characters in this chapter: Wilbur, Ghostbur, Sapnap, George
Word count: 3,121
Cw:  Violence, getting shot, spiraling, pain, crying, tension between characters, brief discussions of lying
Fic summary: Wilbur was alive, and it was such a magnificent feeling, that made his mind spark with anticipation. It didn’t take long, however, for Wilbur to realize that this new breath of life, was not just his own. An echo-y voice hides in the back of his mind, and before he knows it, the transparent version of him he saw at the endless train station, is a lot more ingrained than he’d expected him to be.
And Wilbur really shouldn’t care. Because he’d be damned, if he spent the life he’d awaited for so long, babysitting a lost cause of a ghost, stuck in the very same limbo Wilbur spent so long in. It was an even exchange, and one Wilbur wasn’t going to mess with. Why exactly he ends up setting out to get the ghost out of his mind, in order to save the both of them, however, is beyond him. And perhaps Wilbur’s past isn’t as easy to leave behind, as he’d hoped it would be.
Sapnap stood in the entryway of Tommy’s house, expecting an answer.
Wilbur smiled in a way that didn’t reach his eyes. His voice remained passively cheery with something reserved behind it, “We were just having a talk. A private one.”
Sapnap took another step into the home, “I’m not leaving you here with him. You're looking super… off right now." Something was held back in Sapnap’s words.
Wilbur took a second to reflect on the moment. The moment wasn’t that abnormal by itself. He pulled a fun harmless prank with George and the two were simply chatting inside a vacant home. It wasn’t necessarily his fault George had too many attachments to his Dream and refused to tell him anything as a result. Wilbur growled out, "It's nothing that concerns you. Leave."
Sapnap kept his eyes centered on Wilbur. "George, come over here." Wilbur flickered his eyes back for a moment, seeing George try to side-step out of his way. His mind momentarily switched him with Tubbo as their actions mirrored each other. He wasn’t letting another person leave him. He wasn’t letting more information slip through his hands. He couldn’t afford it.
Wilbur harshly exhaled, “We just need to finish this up, then both of you can go do whatever." He really despised how difficult people could be. Simply blinded by a lack of understanding- one Wilbur shared- that was destructive if not properly taken care of.
And how Sapnap was a destructive fool. So easily swayed by his emotions. He pulled out a loaded crossbow, aiming it at Wilbur. His finger rested gently over the trigger, twitching occasionally. “Step the fuck away from him. Hands where I can see them.”
Annoyance filled Wilbur’s eyes. “Sapnap, don’t do anything rash. We can talk this out.” Wilbur gestured to the man in front of him, “I haven’t done a single thing wrong, isn’t that right, George?”
He looked back towards George, who immediately refused to meet Wilbur’s gaze. George was painting him as a villain. The one that cornered him until the heroic Sapnap came to save the day. The one that needed to be taken care of. The one that died to his own flaws. Heroes never died to their flaws. Heroes loaded a crossbow to protect the ‘innocent.’
Wasn’t Wilbur just as innocent himself? All he needed was answers to fix the mind of his. The one that insisted to be nicer and embrace the little parts of life. The child in his brain who could be removed if he simply knew a little more. Just a few more minutes of conversation and he would have all he ever needed. But with Sapnap present? He had to turn those minutes into quick moments that would pass before the man holding the crossbow even blinked.
He placed his hand firmly on George’s shoulder, slightly pushing him back into the wall. He didn’t even intend to. He didn’t apply much pressure. “George-” He was sharply cut off by the stabbing pain in his leg. He jumped onto the other leg to avoid the painful pressure as he was tackled down by someone he couldn’t see.
A punch hit him square in the jaw, landing on top of a bruise he received from Niki not too long ago. He hissed out in pain and tried to throw the person off of him. When he caught a second to look, it was Sapnap on him, but the moment it took to realize that, he whipped his head to the side after getting punched again.
He wiggled his arms from underneath him and weakly punched him back, unable to move his body into the motion. After more hits that made Wilbur almost dizzy, he knew he couldn’t play fair. He took his fingers and poked them into Sapnap’s eyes, making the man on top of him stop for a moment. Wilbur took the opportunity and punched him as hard as he could, flipping their position and making him on top.
He prepared to hit Sapnap again, not even thinking about why. All he knew was he was getting attacked, and he wasn’t going to be on the losing side of history. Just as he was going to hit the man under him, a blue blur pushed him off, Wilbur’s curled up fist connecting with George’s arm with half the force he aimed for Sapnap.
Still, he made a grunt from the impact and muttered something Wilbur couldn’t hear. George seemed to take a small, hesitant step away, but Sapnap didn’t follow suit as he rolled over and grabbed the collar of Wilbur's shirt. Sapnap must’ve pushed on the pulsing pain in his leg as he groaned from the dizzying sensation. Sapnap took it as his chance to hit Wilbur again. It didn’t just happen once, but Wilbur lost track. He just felt his head jerk back and forth and he closed his eyes from the pain.
When the punches stopped, he opened his eyes slightly. He saw George telling Sapnap something, holding his shoulders firmly. He felt like he could see Sapnap pulling against George’s pull with an anger in his eyes.
“He’s not worth it,” He heard George mumble.
Despite being on the floor and writhing in pain, he hissed out at George, “Fuck you.” He felt pain connect with his face once more. He laughed bitterly. The day was saved. The hero put the villain in his spot. He wouldn't do anything bad now. The innocent people could finally live in peace.
The peace that thrived off of the villain being put to a permanent retirement. The stories he heard from a young age painted it so simply. If only he could have a permanent rest. A permanent rest from this routine he lived in. Besides, everyone else needed a break from him anyway. Just a couple of days alive, and they already needed a break.
Sapnap got off of him. Kicking the place where the pain lay in his leg as Wilbur curled up. “Shit,” he whispered, barely able to acknowledge the people still in the room as the pain throbbed once more. He whimpered quietly to himself as he heard footsteps slowly grow fainter and fainter. There was a distinct sound of voices but he didn’t bother paying attention as he closed his eyes.
“-bur! Wilbur?! Please, please respond, Wil.” Panicked whispers filled his mind. “Oh no, oh no, he’s dead. What happens if he’s dead? Do I die and get put into limbo two: electric boogaloo? Does he get put in limbo? Oh no this is bad.”
A moment of silence was followed by a slightly calmer tone, “No trains coming. That’s good.” Ghostbur cried out in pain, “Wilbur, what did you do this time?” The question wasn’t meant directly to Wilbur, despite him being the subject of it.
Wilbur only managed a groan in response as Ghostbur excitedly gasped, “Wilbur! Can you hear me?”
Wilbur pushed himself up to where he was sitting up. His head spinned as he mumbled, “Yeah, I can hear you.”
“That’s great, because I’d like an explanation of everything that just happened. I thought you said George was your friend! And George didn’t even try to stop all of that. While I don’t think I’ve personally met him, he sounds a little rude.”
Wilbur tried to stand up but he cried out in pain along with Ghostbur at the sensation in his leg. He muttered, “Oh shit.”
“Language,” Ghostbur bitterly mentioned.
“I got shot with Sapnap’s crossbow.” He frankly should have connected the dots earlier, but he just assumed he got kicked really hard. The blood trickled down his leg, slightly staining his pants along the way.
“Oh! Okay… how- how do we fix this?”
“Prime, Ghostbur, I have no fucking clue.” Wilbur sighed quietly to himself, “I’m not cursing at you or anything. I’m just upset that all of it happened.”
“The feeling is mutual.”
The comment took Wilbur off-guard, “What did you say?”
“I said the feeling is mutual. Do you not know what that means? It means when-”
Wilbur cut him off, “I know what it means. I just- I really didn’t expect that out of you.” A light astonishment slipped into Wilbur’s voice.
Ghostbur sighed, “That doesn’t really matter right now. We need to focus on your- well I suppose it would be our- leg.”
Wilbur nodded vaguely. “Right. Okay step one…” Wilbur’s voice died as he tried to think of a vague-ish rule that would apply to any injury. “Get out of immediate danger.”
Ghostbur asked, “Is anyone with you?”
Wilbur shook his head, “It’s just you and me. And me and you. We got the whole place to ourselves.” Wilbur chuckled at the familiar jingle.
Ghostbur didn’t laugh though. His voice stayed firm in a way that frightened Wilbur more than Sapnap did. “What’s step two?”
Wilbur let out a shaky breath, “Um… assess the damage taken.” Wilbur thought for a moment, “There’s gonna be swelling in the face and eventual bruises. There’s also the arrow in my right calf. The injury is on the exterior, about the middle of the leg.” He slightly moved his leg closer, making him wince in pain in company to Ghostbur’s hiss. “It doesn’t seem too deep.”
“You’re doing good so far,” The praise sounded dull, as if it was just supposed to keep Wilbur busy as his mind ran. “Now step three.”
“I’m guessing that would be taking inventory on your medical aid and equipment. As far as medical aid, I-” It was quite pathetic to say that he didn’t have anyone, so he settled on an alternative, “I don’t think anyone is nearby to help.”
“We could go to someone and get help?”
Wilbur quickly feigned an excuse, “I don’t want Sapnap or George seeing me again.”
Ghostbur hummed in acknowledgement, “Good point.” He thought for a moment. “We can’t go to Tubbo or Ranboo either?”
“George or Sapnap might see me and I don’t want to risk going into the nether.”
Ghostbur frustratedly sighed, “So no one wants to help us.” It was stated so matter of factly that Wilbur almost agreed. Instead, he slid himself up one of Tommy’s walls, standing mostly on the leg that wasn’t injured.
Wilbur tried to sugar coat the situation the best he could, “I’m sure people want to. They’re just…” Only helping him out of pity. “Unavailable.”
“Sure. Alright, what supplies do you have?”
“I doubt I’d find much, most of the useful stuff Tommy had was transferred to Pogtopia.” Before Ghostbur could speak again, he added on, “Ghostie, are you alright?”
“It’s-” Ghostbur took a shaky breath, “You need medical attention. Focus on that first.”
“You’re just as important as I am,” Wilbur reassured.
Wilbur hated the silent response more than the arrow in his leg.
He restated, “You are just as important as me.”
The quiet voice filled his mind once more. It was hesitant and small compared to the pain that persisted in Wilbur’s head. He could hardly focus on the words themselves. "I'm not. I'm really not.”
Wilbur furrowed his brow, "Woah, where is this coming from?"
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I just don't feel happy right now." The voice lingered in a dull disappointment that stabbed Wilbur in the heart.
Wilbur pulled a cheery voice, "Uh, you can think about Friend?"
He expected a happy rant about the shade of his wool, or the time of day the little sheep ate. He couldn’t expect anything else out of the happy little ghost. He couldn’t expect Ghostbur’s actual answer. "But then I think about things I shouldn't."
"Like what?"
"I…” Ghostbur took a shaky breath, “I feel like you lied again. No- I know you did. I just don't like to think about it too much."
“I didn’t li-” Wilbur cut himself off at the realization that he promised Ghostbur they were going to see Friend. The talk was still fresh in his mind, remembering the exact part of the cobblestone bridge he was on along with how he shifted in his clothes uncomfortably. “Oh shi- shoot. Ghostie, I'm sorry. I forgot to tell you that I didn't see Friend. I tried looking for him, but he wasn't at L'Manberg like last time."
Ghostbur bitterly laughed, "Do you really think that's all you've lied about?" Wilbur thought for a moment before Ghostbur continued, "I know I have memory problems from time to time. But I've been remembering things really clearly ever since you got revived. And nothing makes sense anymore. You said we would go to Tubbo, but now we can't. You- you said Tommy was coming back, but he never did. And- And you rarely tell me things anymore!" Ghostbur’s voice wavered with a saddened anger. It teetered in a way that made him sound like he was crying, "I thought you were my friend." Wilbur’s vision seemed to messily blur at the final words.
Somehow the ghost that loved everyone he met and named a sheep ‘Friend’ was against him.
One could easily look at Wilbur and see him in those history books. Slightly tint the photos of him a dark gray color or a crimson red if it was recent. State so loudly that no one could stand him. Source all the lives he ruined, and explain how Ghostbur should be in the overworld instead. Let the innocent person run free as the villain rots, cold and alone. Stuck in a train station. That was where Wilbur belonged.
While part of him thought he wasn’t the villain, he was just on the wrong side of history, he knew he was lying to himself, because the two were much the same. It was a habit he developed years ago. He had to believe the best would happen and it would come. So he tried to believe the best, his tone coming off as sarcastic and uncaring, "Oh, we totally are friends! Best friends forever, y'know?"
Ghostbur’s voice shook with such confidence and resentment, "A best friend would tell me things and stop the pain from constantly hurting." A melancholic gray filled his vision for a moment, before flickering away.
Wilbur shifted on his uninjured leg and hobbled towards the entrance of Tommy’s house. Ghostbur wanted to be told the perspective of the world. Simple. There was the wretched villain looking out of an abandoned home, squinting into sun, attempting to help a ghost trapped in his mind. Wilbur spoke in a hushed tone, “I can tell you things. There's an apple on the ground. It’s bright red-"
Ghostbur cut him off, his words rushed and eager to escape him, "Tell me the important things! The details about clouds and trees mean nothing if I'm in pain!"
Wilbur hummed in acknowledgement, “You’re right.” He hopped once more out of Tommy’s house, using the exterior of the wall to act as a support as he limped towards a familiar direction. The world was closing in on him, when he realized who he was once more. Wilbur Soot. Creator and destroyer of L’Manberg. The villain who had been slayed yet again. A repressed genius, who had been holding back for far too long. He let out a breath as he felt his entire being soaring towards the sky, out of the pain, and into the sky that belonged to him as much as his sunrise. “We’re- I’m going to Pogtopia.”
He heard sniffles echo through his mind accompanied by hisses of pains and quick apologies. It turned into white noise as he centered his mind on his throbbing leg, well- as he tried to center the pain there. His mind still ran, telling him about all the things he grinned at.
It felt nice to be above it all. He was simply a mastermind, a work of art that no one else understood. The walk was moderately quick, but peaceful. The adrenaline must have been kicking in as his limp lessened.
He coughed once, as he supported himself on the walls of Pogtopia. His hand ran over the buttons, and while he didn’t press them, he could hear them clicking faintly. They weren’t mocking him anymore, he thought. They were shaking underneath his grasp, and it sent a laugh through his body. “I’m here,” he said out loud.
“Great,” Ghostbur said sharply, though it was clear he had a hard time saying it.
He threw back his head a little, as if he was bored. “I’m not sure where they put the medical equipment.” He thought about his last trip to this place. “Ah, perhaps Tubbo brought it to that little bunker of his.” The name seemed to sting his tongue, but everything else stung him more, so it was hardly relevant.
“We…” Ghostbur tried with a shaky voice, “We’re not allowed to go in there without him. H- he said-”
“You were the one who said medical attention was the first priority,” Wilbur reminded the ghost, continuing to walk ahead. He received no response.
Whatever.
He remembered where the bunker was, fortunately. He soon found himself in there, and while it felt forbidden just before he walked inside, Wilbur never cared much about what he was supposed to do. The world wasn’t going to keep him down. He had been staying at the train station, with little to no light, and hours, days, years ticking ahead. He had let the comfort of tolerance, and connection that would be broken at the slightest misstep, overwhelm him. He had forgotten everything he had learned last time he was in Pogtopia. A silly little shell, who was far too easy to keep down. But Wilbur wasn’t anyone’s shell anymore.
He looked at the books and the little farms for food. One could stay there for months or longer, and remain perfectly intact. “Huh, I could do some reading while I’m down here,” he said.
“Please- please take…” Ghostbur’s voice wavered, though the next part came out harshly, “Please take care of the wounds.”
Wilbur rolled his eyes. “Yeah yeah, I will.”
Ghostbur responded to that with a hiss of pain, but Wilbur barely noticed as he walked to the nearest chest to pick up some bandages. There was thankfully a potion of regeneration, and something that would disinfect the wound. He wished it was an instant health instead, or even just having more potions in general.
Regardless, he sat down on a chair, feeling the pain slightly more as his leg changed position. He looked at the arrow. “I’m going to remove the arrow now. Brace yourself I guess.”
Ghostbur held his breath, and Wilbur ripped it out with as much quick force as he could, knowing full well that it would be less painful to get it done quickly. “There we go.” His smile wavered for a moment, though he settled on the most confident expression he could muster. He’d done this countless times before. Ghostbur sobbed, and Wilbur huffed. “That wasn’t so bad, was it?”
Ghostbur didn’t respond though. Instead, Wilbur heard the sound of muffled cries and whimpers echoing through his mind.

Birthday Boy HC
Modern AU with police chief HC who is very dedicated to his job, especially because he grew up in a “bad” area and has first-hand experience from inadequate police service in poor neighborhoods. His co-workers and friends never see him go on second dates or have one-night stands. When HC’s birthday comes up, he insists he doesn’t want a grand occasion.
However, a simple party, he will permit.
Leave it to HX’s partner, SQX, to invite all of HC’s friends and acquaintances to HC’s own penthouse for a surprise birthday party, scheduled for the evening since HC typically works very late. When the police chief arrives home, still in his black uniform pants and red dress-shirt that goes under his suit jacket, the party is on the precipice of a full swing celebration.
HC is a bit put off by how loud and crowded his home is but it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Things are lonely, he will admit. And if this is a once-in-a-blue-moon thing, then HC won’t stop others from enjoying themselves and frankly, spoiling him.
At the height of the party, right when YY is about to present the birthday cake, SQX whistles for everyone’s attention.
“All right, Hua Cheng, time to sit on that chair over there,” SQX says while steering HC from behind, pushing on his shoulder. The chair is placed in the middle of the living room, in the perfect spot to watch the front door open.
The lights are gradually dimmed.
HC is too confused to protest. He cautiously sits down.
The front door pivots open. The person who walks through the door makes HC’s eye widen in surprise. They are dressed in all black: jean-booty shorts, stilettos, and a tight-fitting crop top. A sheer veil is also draped over their shoulders, falling gracefully behind them as they enter the room. They wear a headband with pointy horns and dark, red lipstick.
As the person gets closer, HC’s breath picks up.
“You didn’t-“ he whispers mindlessly, directed at SQX. His best friend’s partner merely holds their hands up in surrender, as if saying they did nothing wrong.
The scarcely-dressed person looks around demurely, aware everyone’s eyes are on them, ogling at their outfit that exposes lots of skin.
And then they set their gaze on HC, who sits frozen in the chair, hands gripping his thighs.
“Are you the birthday boy?” The stranger asks, smirking slightly. HC audibly gulps, not quite believing the sight of his childhood neighbor standing right in front of him, dressed like a demon summoned for punishment for his sins.
(It takes .05 seconds for HC to tent up in his pants.)
HC can’t bring himself to speak without stuttering like a fool. It’s clear that he’s the birthday boy—he’s sitting in a chair in the middle of the room, goddamn it. But for whatever reason, HC feels like he needs to respond to every one of this man’s signals.
So he stiffly nods, managing to maintain eye contact.
XL’s smirk widens mischievously, holding a secret promise behind those glistening lips. He prowls forward slowly, the click of his stiletto heels echoing across the marble floor.
“It looks like I’ve gotten myself into a little trouble,” he says with faux-innocence, slipping the veil off his shoulders. Instead of coming onto HC, XL slinks around him, letting the veil skim across HC’s lap, up to his chest, and over his face.
It faintly smells of peach.
“All right, Mr. Policeman,” XL addresses, pausing to stand behind HC. “What should I call you?”
HC breathes out harshly through his nose, desperately wanting to tilt his head back in order to get another glimpse at the angel- no, minx who has evoked the intensity of desire and lust long-buried under HC’s skin. It steadily rises to the surface, heating HC’s skin, making him feel too hot in a room where too many people remain to watch the show.
“Hmm, will ‘chief’ do? Or perhaps...sir?”
“Hua Cheng is just fine,” HC grits out. He gives in to looking behind his shoulder with curious eyes. XL’s face is startlingly close, amber eyes holding a sultry look that sends pleasure down HC’s spine.
Then, those eyes fixate on him, getting a really good look for the first time. Familiarity flashes across XL’s expression but he quickly wipes it away in favor of connecting their foreheads.
“Hua Cheng it is.”
The click of handcuffs binding HC’s wrists behind the back of the chair makes his heart drop to his stomach. He whips his head around to SQX and HX who stand off to the side. HX raises an amused eyebrow.
Somehow, SQX convinced HX to steal a pair from the office.
These are his own cuffs.
“Is this okay, Hua Cheng?” XL whispers genuinely in HC’s. When HC audibly hitches, he giggles.
“Yes.”
XL unties HC’s low ponytail to card his fingers through the police chief’s hair.
“Does it feel good?”
Fuck, XL is barely touching him, but the light brush of his fingers ignites a flame in HC’s heart, making him feel alive.
XL unbuttons the top three buttons of HC’s shirt.
“There. All ripe for the taking,” XL purrs. He drags the veil up and over HC’s face as he walks away. A strong bass pounds from HC’s built-in speaker SQX has managed to operate.
XL begins dancing for HC, swiveling his hips and rotating in time with the music. HC’s breath quickens up, his police attire also feeling unbearably hot. XL ditches the veil, and then he’s walking to HC, long legs crossing with every step.
HC is certain he won’t survive this.
***
It turns out to be nothing more than a sensual lap dance. There was no kissing on the lips, no groping on HC’s part, and no intimate touches because XL isn’t that kind of dancer. SQX knew this. He also knew HC wouldn’t want anything more than a bit of teasing anyways.
Luckily, SQX contacting a fellow friend who he’d modeled with once has allowed HC to see XL again. When he’s released from the cuffs, HC stands up and approaches where XL picks up his veil from the ground.
“Gege?” HC questions quietly. XL turns to look at him, a pink blush dusted on his cheeks.
“Oh, hello again, San Lang,” the other man greets, nearly the same height as HC with the stilettos on. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it?”
“Hmm.”
It hadn’t been either of their faults. Or maybe it was both. HC traveled to another part of the country to be enrolled in the most prestigious academy in the nation. XL moved to a different big city to pursue a degree in economics. Years of separation caused them to drift apart from best friends in high school to strangers living very different lives.
“Well, it’s really nice to see you again. The circumstances are a bit... unconventional, but I’m glad it was you,” XL laughs lightly, readjusting his headband with pointy horns. HC tries not to stare at how well they suit the other man.
XL shifts a bit uncomfortably, hugging the sheer veil tighter around his body. HC feels a natural smile curl upon his lips in hopes it soothes XL’s qualms about his state of dress.
“I’m glad it was you too, gege,” HC says honestly. XL’s face lights up like the golden fairy lights he had pinned on his childhood room walls. “If it’s not too much trouble, I ask if gege can stay?”
“Oh.”
“At least for cake-” HC rushes out, praying to whatever bastard up there that XL will say yes. “It’s strawberry,” he adds, softer. XL tilts his head in astonishment.
“I thought your favorite flavor was coconut?” XL asks in surprise.
“It is. But...I asked for strawberry this year,” HC finishes lamely.
Was he being too obvious? Would XL figure him out and be repelled? Sure, it was only a cake flavor, but what are the chances XL’s favorite is still strawberry?
XL takes his phone out of the canvas bag SQX brought to him after the dance. He scrolls for a few seconds, then quickly types something out. Turning the device back in its place, XL meets HC’s gaze with a cheerful smile.
He closes all the distance between them, a certain bounce in his step.
“I believe,” XL starts. “I can keep the birthday boy company for a little while longer.”
HC smiles widely, flashing his front row of teeth–his right canine pointier than the rest.
“Brilliant.”
***
Turns out, “a little while longer” meant talking until every last person called it a night and headed out. They catch up on all the years they missed out on each others’ lives.
Four years ago, XL adopted a daughter, Ban Yue. Ban Yue was a split-second decision when XL was a year out of university, unsure of what direction his life was heading. He says it’s the best decision he’s ever made.
“She brings me so much happiness. It was like I had a Ban Yue-shaped hole and she was the missing puzzle piece,” XL says enthusiastically. He pauses to take one more sip of his baijiu. “Does that even make sense? Hahaha….”
“It does,” HC reassures from beside him. They sit on his plush, velvet couch, holding their respective drinks with practiced form. XL leans back against the cushions, sighing in relief.
“San Lang, I knew you would understand,” he murmurs.
He doesn’t elaborate.
He doesn’t need to. It’s no secret XL’s parents would’ve disapproved of him for single-parenting a random orphan with no known heritage or background. But they were already out of the picture, disowning XL right after high school graduation when he was outed by a family friend whose advances XL rejected.
“Perhaps you can meet her one day,” XL adds as an afterthought. HC matches XL’s position, reclining against the cushions, keeping his body turned towards XL, offering him HC’s full, undivided attention. It’s a simple gesture that means everything to someone like XL.
“I would love to,” HC says.
XL hums happily, then goes on to explain that he’s a telemarketer by day, which allows him to stay home with flexible work hours that fit around Ban Yue’s school schedule. (She’s in the third grade now.)
XL also mentions that he occasionally dances at night for an extra income. Nothing too intense or frequent. Just dressing up and dancing for special occasions, at parties like HC’s. XL typically has MQ or FX babysit Ban Yue during those nights.
The word family echoes in the hollow of HC’s chest.
“Gege’s been leading a very eventful and prosperous life,” HC comments with satisfaction. He leans forward to tug the maple-red coat he lent back over XL’s shoulders, ensuring the other man stayed warm.
“Nonsense, my life is just like anybody else’s,” XL says, waving his hand in a lax motion. “But I am very interested in hearing about San Lang’s life. Police chief, huh?”
“Gege…” HC mutters shyly. Against his will, his mind replays the moment XL asked if he should address HC as “sir.”
Boners don’t get boyfriends; sexy, mature conversations do, HC tells himself.
“Please, San Lang? I won’t force you to talk too much about yourself! I know we don’t...know each other as well as we used to,” XL says, a bit embarrassed. “If you want, we can just end right now and I can leave-”
“No! Not at all, I’ll tell gege anything he wants,” HC says, scooting even closer to XL so their hips bump against one another. XL sets down his empty glass, his unsure expression morphs to contentedness.
As it should always be.
“Well…” HC trails off, taken aback by how vivid XL’s amber irises gleam as they pin HC down. “Actually, there isn’t much to tell-”
“Just tell it is how it is, San Lang!” XL laughs, reaching over to playfully bat at HC’s arm.
“Okay, okay! I’m on it.”

Lore Book Review
Tumblr media
Lore Book Review by Alexandra Bracken
Lore by Alexandra Bracken was one of 2021’s most anticipated YA novels and it's easy to see why. The plot summary itself is enough to pull you in with the intriguing concoction of calling it the combination of The Hunger Games and the Percy Jackson series.
What’s not to love when you fuse the illicit danger of Katniss Everdeen with the mythological enchantment of Rick Riordan’s masterpiece?
Turns out, quite a lot unfortunately.
Before I get into why this book didn’t live up to the insurmountable hype it built up, I’ll attempt to give a basic summary. The key word being attempt as a good portion of this novel’s plot was a mind boggling and convoluted mess.
The book takes place in modern day New York which Bracken likes to remind you every other paragraph with small snippets about how the city that never sleeps smells like sewage and is yet still the best place on earth apparently.
Don’t get me wrong, I love New York as much as the next person, but the pandering to the Big Apple got annoying after awhile.
Within the cantankerous city lives a girl named Lore which we are introduced to by means of her kicking ass in an underground Chinese restaurant’s fighting ring.
Pretty strong start.
Lore’s world (and the reader’s frankly) is tipped upside down when Lore’s long lost childhood friend, Castor, reappears to warn her that he is looking for her. Terrified, Lore is then at first unwillingly thrust back into the world in which she was born-a world dominated by violence, bloodlines, and the Greek gods who are very much alive and out for vengeful retribution.
In a very exposition-dump heavy conversation, we learn that Lore is the last of Perseous’ line with the rest of her family having been horrifically murdered, that a week long event called the Agon occurs every seven years in which the original nine Greek gods or their reincarnated selves become mortal for seven days, and that a series of killing often happen because if you kill a Greek god you then become that Greek god as well as inhabit their powers, abilities, and immortality.
Well, until the next Agon that is.
The currently reincarnated God by the name of Wrath is attempting to end the Agon by killing all the other Gods, but in order to do it he needs to wield a special weapon called the Aegis.
Unfortunately, only the Perseides can wield this shield (for some reason) and thus, Wrath is out to get his hold on Lore as the last of her line so that he can bring this eons old competition to an end with himself as the sole victor and only remaining God.
Confused?
I’d be surprised if you weren’t.
Now, I love Greek mythology. I’ve read the classics and would say I’m fairly up to date on the stories, the legends, the gods, and the stories they represent. I’m not an expert, but I would say I’m  knowledgeable on who the major figures are and what they stood for.
I genuinely think this book would have been miserable for anyone that didn’t know anything about Greek mythology.
Bracken does a terrible job of explaining what the hell is happening at any given point, and she often throws out allusions and references to Greek mythology without bothering to explain a single shred of information about it.
In addition, after this laughably and poorly explained world and plot at the beginning, it is almost never explained again. It’s brought up, as are names and titles and weapons and relationships, but it’s never explained in a way that’s feasibly understandable.
At the beginning of the novel Bracken lists who all the important characters are, their bloodlines, and their titles.
I soon figured out why, as every other sentence a name like Wrath or Reveler or Tidebringer or whoever was brought up, and it was impossible to keep track of so I didn’t even bother.
Even Lore brings up that the names are ridiculous, which I appreciate, but the meta moment of clarity doesn't make it any better.
Also, what Lore and her friends get up to over 90% of the novel is a muddled mass of bewilderment.
Why do Lore and Castor and the others need to find Artemis? I don’t know, but sure, whatever, sounds good. Why was Lore the last of her line again? Oh yeah, right, okay, I guess. Wait, Castor died? Oh, he didn’t? Why not? Oh, we’re not going to explain it. Sure, sure.
Throughout this entire novel, what the characters are doing and what is happening is almost impossible to follow with the way it's presented and the way Bracken developed her world. I think this was a really cool idea that had very poor execution.
Points for the originality and the inclusion of Greek mythology, but all of the positives were taken away when that originality was flushed down the drain with a lack of explanation and logic.
Lore very much reminded me of a shoot-em up, bang-em up action movie. Almost every other chapter was some sort of super intense, super climactic fight scene, chase, theft, break-in, etc.
Now. I do think action scenes are hard to write and I think Bracken actually did an incredible job of writing action in a way that was entertaining and thrilling.
However, when the action takes place every ten pages it gets really old, really quick. Towards the end, I downright started skimming the fight scenes, because they lacked so little depth and stakes and we had read so much action at the end point that it had lost all vigor and vitality.
Continuing with the action movie metaphor, most action movies focus solely on the bright explosions and the crazy fight scenes as their selling point of the whole movie, often to the detriment of the characters, plot, and development.
Now, some people like this. I am not these people.
I find action movies boring as most of my enjoyment from consuming media comes from the characters and the developments they undergo.
My biggest criticism with Lore, other than the astonishing storytelling, is by far the characters. I just...didn’t care. About any of them.
Bracken tried to make Lore come across as a strong, opinionated, fierce, angry female character and while sometimes she succeeded, more often than not I found Lore temperamental, aggravating, impulsive, selfish, and shallow.
Bracken very much invoked the tell-not-show strategy that makes any book hard to get through. While there were some decent moments of showing instead of just stating, more often than not, Bracken would tell us that Lore was strong by having other people say it or others calling her weak.
I appreciated Bracken’s feminist agenda and how strongly Lore felt about gender inequality, even if it was a bit heavy-handed at times. Still, I did appreciate this inclusion of civil rights on this front, even if some of the circumstances to incite it were ridiculous or over the top.
In addition, I hated that there was all this backstory that we were just told but not shown. Like in my last review of Wilder Girls, Lore suffers from an intrinsic failure of getting me onboard with these characters and their relationships by telling me how I should feel about them instead of exposing them through action.
I was told:
Lore and Castor haven't seen each other for seven years, but my gosh, Castor is just the best and is so beautiful. Ensue obligatory YA romance.
Lore has a best friend! Yeah. Her name is Iro. Here she is! Um. Okay. Why was this necessary?
Miles is just the coolest best friend ever. Like, look how cool and chill he is. How funny is it that he has no idea what’s happening? Really not funny at all. He was a useless character used to build empty stakes.
The list goes on and on, but Bracken will throw out some sort of fact or relationship and just expect the reader to go “Okay!” Which. I didn’t. On any of those occurrences.
Often Bracken would do this in the use of flashbacks at the most inopportune times (during a fight scene, after someone was injured, right before a huge revelation, etc). These flashbacks were the worst. I do not care for adolescent Lore and child Lore was somehow even worse.
The romance in this book, much like an action movie, is off to the side and really only there to fulfill the trope of having a romance.
Lore and Castor are boring. I don’t know what else to say. Castor is too perfect to be likable and Lore is the opposite. Nothing about their romance was unique or well-crafted.
The kiss between Van and Miles I also saw coming a hundred miles away. I also thought it was pointless as Van and Miles had known each for six days and had had maybe two conversations. So. No. I didn’t care at all about the romances.
It actually made me laugh and scoff simultaneously at the end when Lore is looking at Van, Castor, Iro and Miles and smiles because she realizes that these people are her family.
Ummm. Sorry?
Castor disappeared for seven years and you’ve been reunited for seven days. You’ve hated Van your whole life until this week. You also haven’t seen Iro in seven years and she tried to kill you at least twice in this book. Miles is...fine, but again useless. I don’t even know why Bracken included him except to make Lore worry about him which she only did about half of the time.
Phew.
I know this review has come across largely negative, so this might be surprising, but I didn’t hate it. It lacks substance and depth, but it was entertaining.
Just like an action movie.
If you want some hyped fights and a plot that really doesn't matter and characters that won’t stick with you, but a fast-paced narrative that keeps you on your toes nonetheless, then you would probably enjoy this.
It’s like the equivalent of watching a James Bond movie or one of the millions of the Fast and Furious. Bracken tries to develop the characters, but at the end of the day, most of the story is made up of cool fights, magic, and weapons. If that’s your speed then you would probably really love Lore.
Recommendation: Action, action, action. If you want some high intensity, get-your-blood-pumping enterprise then this is your novel. The writing is fluid, the adrenaline-inducing scenes are non-stop, and everything else falls to the backdrop of external fights and villainous monologues. If action is not your preferred genre, then your best left to get your Greek mythology needs from Percy Jackson or the Song of Achilles instead.

A story of heroes and villains
Book 2: secrets revealed Roman Castile: A story
Tumblr media
Masterlist book 1
Roman learns about his mentor’s past, and his own powers.
When Roman returned to his team that evening he found them looking rather tense.
He let out a heavy sigh. “Listen, I promise I was safe. But I could’ve been in the middle of talking someone out of making a bad decisions at the time. You can’t just shout in my ear out of nowhere. That was dangerous and frankly I expect you to be more levelheaded BS,” Roman explained firmly. They hadn’t brought it up over the coms and the more Roman thought about it the more convinced he was that he made the right call. “That isn’t what this is about Prince. Take a seat,” Manifestor instructed. Roman obeyed, feeling kind of nervous. Manifestor didn’t usually sound this serious. “Ok…” BS took in a deep breath. “Prince. I must offer you my sincere apologies. I didn’t want to tell you right away, and maybe I should’ve. You shouldn’t have gone out without knowing the risks… We talked a little about nemeses during your training.” Roman nodded. “Yeah, but I doubt I’ve done anything that warrants one yet. Those things come later in a career unless…” Suddenly Roman recalled something Sweets had said during that conversation. Sometimes heroes inherit nemeses. But… “But you were a villain. Any nemeses you had would be heroes… Right?” he asked astonished. Why was BS telling him this? Surely if it was an enemy of Manifestor, he would be taking the lead in this story right? And his only true nemesis was BS. He was The Villain Manifestor fought. All his other fights with villains, he’d been supporting another hero. And he never really fought anyone himself. BS nodded. “Technically, the collector isn’t my nemesis. At least not in the traditional sense,” he mused as he pinched the bridge of his nose. “I’ll start from the beginning,” he said. “I became a villain because I needed the money and fast. Plain and simple. Any legal means were insufficient. So I made a name for myself and eventually when I said ‘give me 10.000 dollars or I destroy this building,’ people handed me the money because they knew I very easily could make good on my threats. I always picked an amount they could easily provide without harming the business or individual too much financially. One day I found myself running from the police force, I had misjudged the time it would take them to arrive, and I got helped by a stranger in a haphazardly put together disguise. When we lost them and caught our breath he introduced himself as ‘the collector’. I fairly quickly understood him to be a fanboy of sorts. He was a big fan of my ‘work’, though he misunderstood the intention entirely. Not that I could get him to understand that. He thought I was taking the money as proof that I was superior or something like that. I didn’t listen too closely to his speech at the time. I was concerned with getting away. He said he wanted to help me. Gifted were still considered fairly new. Nowadays most people alive have lived most of their lives in a world with gifted. But back then most of the population still saw it as strange and there weren’t any real initiatives to help train the powers. So the gifted that were around often were untrained and had their powers act up without warning. Which could be quite destructive.” BS paused a moment, looking at Roman as if to make sure that he was still following. Roman nodded, signifying he was still paying attention. “Anyway, the collector thought that people should respect and celebrate our existence. He compared the stigmas we faced to those of people of color, or the LGBTQ+ community, then still called the Gay or Queer community. He said it very nicely, it almost sounded reasonable, if you ignored the slight notes of supremacy. And if I had been trying to ‘stick it to the man’ as they say, I might have been tempted. But I just wanted… I was selfish in my actions and therefore not interested in his big revolution, which turned out to be a good thing in some ways.” Roman was a little overwhelmed by this story already. He’d never heard this much… well, anything personal about his mentor before. “I told him I wasn’t interested in leading any resistance, thanked him for the assistance and left. Shortly after this I encountered Manifestor for the first time. He blessed one of the people in the building with super speed,” BS recalled. Roman heard Manifestor chuckle. “I remember. I was so pleased that it worked.” Manifestor’s ability was to give someone powers, or increase the gift someone already possessed. Usually it only worked for a short time, but there were quite a few that kept the gift or power boost permanently. Roman had theorized that he just strengthened the bond with the ‘energy’, making it easier for people who never tapped into it before to use it. For people who already were gifted it was the same as an adrenaline rush. “You were insufferably delighted even if I defeated your champion,” BS recalled, though it seemed he was fond of the memory rather than annoyed. That was new. Maybe Roman was misreading things? “You did retreat though. I stalled you long enough to make you give up that mark and head out. So it was a win for me.” BS let out a deep sigh and turned back to Roman. “I saw the Collector a few more times after that, though I managed to avoid conversation. One day during a stalemate with Manifestor, he asked me about him. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who’d been approached about his plans. He had actually advanced them. He was now not only collecting gifted, but also individuals ‘worthy’ of a gift. Be it they joined him out of free will or got persuaded through different means.” Roman felt uneasy as he thought of what those means might be. “And he wanted me to ‘grant’ them that blessing,’” Manifestor recalled, clearly uncomfortable with that conversation. BS nodded, patting Manifestor on the back in comfort. Which was a surprise. Manifestor always treated BS like a friend. Until now however, Roman had thought that BS found that annoying. But maybe BS did consider Manifestor a friend too. “Manifestor had enlisted the help of others to free some of his victims. The Collector claimed I was championing his cause. I assured Manifestor that I had no intention of assisting in his plans. That is about the time Manifestor started winning me over to redemption. The next time I spotted Collector I told him in the plainest possible terms that I was not interested…” There was a moment of heavy silence and Roman dreaded what would be said next. BS was not one for dramatic pauses. “He assured me I would be… I haven’t seen him since. But that promise… I don’t know what exactly he has been up to the past 14 years. But one can only imagine how someone like that matures. Or what he has planned for me when he finds me. Prince, the collector will not consider you his enemy. But he is yours. Anyone who meets his criteria of ‘worthy’, is at risk. And he does not take no for an answer.” Suddenly Roman shot up. “Phantom!” he exclaimed. “Phantom might be in danger! What if someone on the chief’s team passes on information to him? Or what if he has connections to these crime organizations!? I’ve got to go out now and find him…” Roman rushed, ready to gear up and head out right away. “Not tonight. Maybe tomorrow you can try again. Even if you find him, you are not in the right state of mind to deliver this kind of news delicately.” Roman paused, BS had a point. “You’ve done great today sport! You just go home and sleep on what you’ve learned. Tomorrow night there is another patrol and you might run into him then,” Sweets suggested. “I’m glad you are so eager to meet this young hero Prince. Just know that there is no pressure. They’ve been evading unwanted contact for almost a year now. It is okay if you don’t find them right away. And we’ll give you the support you need,” Manifestor added. Roman let out a sigh and nodded, not wanting to say anything that would give away that he had already met Phantom in all his awkward broodiness. “Can I ask a favor though?” he wondered. A little while later he was finally ready to go home. His parents would be worried. He’d stayed out a bit later than he planned. But they knew that they’d be informed if something went wrong. He was pretty sure they were alerted when he left the facility. Still he hurried. Not just to spare his parent’s the worry. He also hoped that maybe he’d be able to catch Virgil awake for a few texts. If only to apologize for the way he’d left. He would’ve really liked to give Virgil a ride in his car. Roman’s car wasn’t new, it belonged to one of his uncles who got a new company car recently. It was a good car though. A beautiful convertible. His uncle had even given it a paintjob making it Roman’s favorite shade of red. He shook himself out of his thoughts. He could daydream about his car later. Now he had to get home. His parents were relieved to see him home safe and sound. His dad needed to be up early the next day so he could only stick around for a hug and a quick goodnight. “Mijo, do you really need to go back again tomorrow? Maybe you should take it slow first,” his mother tried as she checked him over yet again for any scratches. There were none, luckily. Roman had heard of some gifted with healing abilities, but try as he might, he was not one of them. Meaning that he could not fix himself up to ease his mother’s worries. “Mama,” Roman sighed as he laid his hands on her shoulders in a comforting gesture. “I wish you could see things the way I do. Perhaps then, you would know there is no need to worry,” he told her with a kiss to the cheek. His mother blinked a few times in confusion. “Mijo… You are glowing?” That made Roman pause and take a step back. “Wait… Can you see this?” he produced a shield in the shape of a star. “Wh…What is that? It became a, a star!” she exclaimed. “Mama! I think I gave you my sight! It allows me to see my powers.” This was amazing! “Throw something at me!” he instructed eagerly as he lifted himself a bit in the air. He saw his mother look at the platform he created to do so in awe. “Mamà!” he called out urgently. He had no clue how long this would last. He had to show her. “Ah, sì!” his mother muttered as she tossed an apple from the fruit bowl next to her at his head. Roman had his gelatin shield catch it, and then he dropped the shield, catching the apple in his hand. “Principite! That is amazing… But the color is fading… Oh, now it’s gone.” He put himself down. “Whatever I did to make you see must have worn off. Does this ease your worries a bit though mama?” he wondered. His mother thought for a minute and nodded. “I will never stop worrying, but I do feel better now. We should try and show your papa tomorrow. It will be a comfort to him too.” Roman nodded. Understanding went a long way to reduce fear. BS had taught him that once. When he got to his room he took out his phone. For a moment he imagined telling Virgil the truth. Superheroes always had a close friend who knew in the comics. Who covered for them when they had to duck out and be heroes… He shook his head. He had made a decision long ago. No one could know he was Dream Prince until he’d chosen and settled into a civilian life and career. And even beyond that, he wanted to be sure that if Virgil fell for him, it would be with Roman, not the Prince. Maybe he’d reconsider it when they’d grown closer as friends, and when Virgil’s passing crush on Prince had faded as he said it would. He shot Virgil a quick text. Telling him that he just got back home himself, asking if he was okay and apologizing that he hadn’t been able to check in on him earlier. It hadn’t been safe, not that he could tell him that. As Prince he had to avoid contact with any of his civilian associates beyond accidental encounters. Knowing that this collector was out there had him extra worried. Would Virgil be in danger if he got linked to Prince? Or maybe the collector would already be interested if he knew of Virgil’s knack for art and design? What was ‘worthy’ in this man’s eyes? A message came in and pulled Roman out of his thoughts. It was Virgil. “LOL. You worry too much. Hope you had a fun night.” Roman relaxed. Then suddenly his phone went off. The caller ID said ‘guide to hell’. “Virgil?” he asked. “I had to tell you now. I saw him!” Virgil whispered excitedly. “Who? And why are we whispering?” Roman asked confused. “I’m supposed to be asleep,” Virgil replied. Roman chuckled and laid down on his bed. “Ok… Who did you see?” Roman asked. “Dream Prince! I went for a walk and I guess he was doing patrol in my neighborhood, I caught a glimpse of him. He was wearing my costume! You were right! I can’t wait to get a good look at it in action! You think someone got a picture? I didn’t have a chance. God I should’ve taken a picture so I could show you!” He whisper yelled. “I’m sure I’ll see your work plastered around the front pages Monday. Pretty sure you missed out on the Saturday edition. But the news stations might talk about it. You sure you don’t want your name attached to it?” Roman knew the answer, and honestly, after what he heard tonight he was a little less eager to draw attention to Virgil’s talent or involvement with his super hero self however minor it might be. “Yeah… I just… I know I should want the credit. But, just in case he becomes like this big time hero, I don’t want my possible career to be defined before it starts, you know what I mean?” Roman did understand. To always be that guy that designed this other guy’s first costume… To an artist it could be stifling to be defined so soon. Virgil should be allowed to build his career his way. Roman wanted something similar after all. “Maybe I’ll come forth with the original sketch when I’m like, 30, to prove it was me if it still matters by then,” Virgil reasoned. “Sounds like a smart plan. I’m going to let you go. I do need my beauty sleep after all,” Roman jested. “You said it, not me,” Virgil chuckled before adding: “Night Princey.” Roman smiled at the nickname, recalling the first time Virgil used it fondly. “Buenas noches. Mi querido amigo.” Virgil groaned. “Bon nuit,” he huffed before hanging up. The next day, Roman managed to show his dad his powers at dinner before he headed out again. He had practiced with his mom and Remus during the day. It took him a few tries. They discovered that shows of affection made the transition easier. And if he had physical contact with the other person it was most effective. When he told Remus about the lamp incident, he got a mixture of teasing and worry for his troubles. When they hugged he tried it out, almost as an afterthought. It hadn’t really worked that well any of the previous times, but now Remus got to use his sight for a full five minutes. Which was a big step up from the minute or so his mother had gotten it the evening before. Roman was excited. He could use this! If he got better at this he could show his team –he was not going to give any of them kisses or hugs though. He’d have to get to a point where a handshake was enough first. Speaking off, after dinner it was time for another patrol. He wanted to find Phantom as soon as he could. He didn’t even go all the way to the university. It wasn’t really needed. He got changed in his room, dashed through a few backyards, and then jumped from rooftop to rooftop. Soon he found himself in the area he met Phantom the day before. The second he used his sight he saw Phantom’s aura. On the rooftop he’d left him yesterday. Had he been waiting for him? He felt kind of flattered. “Good evening my shadowy friend,” he greeted with a bow the moment he landed. He heard a rush of fabric. He looked up and saw the flutter of Phantom’s coat. He was now facing him. “Hey there highness.” He tossed him something, which Roman caught in a fluent motion. He studied the bag. It was one of the see through ziplocks. Containing a USB drive. “Is this…?” he started stunned. “A show of good will. I thought about it… You seem alright. I’ll… I’ll have your back. If you’ll have mine,” Phantom told him. Roman was beyond happy with this development. “You do know that if I hand this in, they’ll know I made contact?” A chuckle came from the dark figure. “You mean you haven’t told them yet?” Roman straightened himself. “You didn’t say you were alright with that!” he objected. “Okay. Well, consider this my permission. If I don’t want to be found, I’ll disappear Prince… Tell the chief all communication with me goes through you. If you don’t mind,” Phantom replied pleasantly. Roman nodded and activated his communicator. “Dream Prince you are late. What is your status?” BS asked immediately. “I am currently debriefing Phantom. I’ll let you know when I’m done here. Tell chief I’ll stop by with a package,” he informed his team. “Radio silence until further notice.” Phantom chuckled. “You ever thought I might be a bad guy? You shouldn’t cut off your back up like that in front of me,” he told him. “You’ve had plenty chances to take me out. You could have let those goons get me the first time you saw me. You could have attacked me while I was busy with those guys yesterday. And who knows how many times over the summer. And on top of that. Who says my communicator is my only way of contacting back up?” Another chuckle. “Fair enough. So, what now?” his voice got a little insecure. “Now… I warn you about the collector.” The figure shifted. There was a pause. “I feel like this is a sitting down kind of conversation,” he sighed as he walked to the edge of the roof and took a seat. Roman followed him and sat down next to him. He looked up to the young man next to him and noticed that there seemed to be dark fabric in front of his mouth and a dark woolen cap over his hair. The fuzz Roman experienced when looking at Phantom’s face dissipated around the same time he took out a pair of dark sunglasses and placed them on his face. He looked at Roman. “The collector is an old enemy of Manifestor. He recruits Gifted, and those he thinks deserve to be gifted for some kind of revolution. You and I are probably his kind of people. Young, full of potential. All that stuff creeps like that love to go on about. So we should be careful, you and I. I want to help you out.” He dug in his pocket and took out the favor he requested. “These can help you hide your identity without having to use your… Do you have a name for it?” he asked. Roman once more found that he could not really see Phantom’s face. “Cloak,” was the distorted answer before the fuzz disappeared again. “Cloak… Cool. So this,” he showed him the black gemlike device. “Is a voice modulator. I adjusted it to fit your tempest voice as best as I could.” Phantom snorted. And Roman shrugged. “You clearly have not heard it,” he told him. “What’s with the lipstick?” Phantom asked. “This will paint your hair black faster than any hair dye. It’s also a very good hair gel and it washes out right away,” he offers Phantom both objects. Phantom hesitated but accepted them. He got up and walked away. “No peeking!” he warned. Roman stared ahead, waiting for Phantom to be done. “Okay, let’s try this,” Phantom’s distorted voice sighed. It sounded a little different than before. Meaning he was using the modulator. Roman looked around and saw that Phantom’s hair, whatever it was before, was now black and messy. Peeks stood in all directions, but in a deliberate way. He was still wearing the facemask and the shades, but his cloak was no longer engaged. “Okay. So… what’s the plan?” Phantom asked. “Well… We could try and meet up here regularly. We might not always patrol at the same time, and you might be busy. But I could… If you are okay with it… I could help you coordinate with the cops. Like you kinda suggested earlier. Or we could like, do some patrolling together? Keep each other company…” Roman had not thought this far ahead. And so he ended up being brutally honest. “It might be nice talking to someone who gets it you know? You’re my age right?” he wondered. “I mean… I guess, but I’m not sure how old you are exactly,” Phantom shrugged. “Fair point. Anyway… What do you want?” When in doubt, ask what people need. “I mean… Debriefings sound cool,” Phantom shrugged. “I’d like to patrol with you, but my parkour is no match to that walking on air trick you got… I was thinking of hanging around the clubbing district at the end of the night and making sure some party goers get home safe. I’ll see you around there when you’re done?” Roman nodded. “That sounds like a good idea.” He got up and bowed. “Please know that the GTA’s resources are now at your disposal through me. So if you want to get a proper suit or other fun toys, you need only ask,” he informed him before heading off into the night. He smirked to himself as he went. He’d definitely made a new friend.
