To be honest I don't know if Vasco's sense of smell is significantly better than a non-scenthound dog's (I mean maybe a little? Since scenthounds tend to have large nasal cavities and more room for olfactory receptors than a dog with shorter or narrower snout? But it's not really relevant in this context).

The way I see it, dog people's sense of smell is more acute than ours, but not as overpowered as that of an actual dog. Scents are more meaningful to them. For example, when you spend enough time with someone, your scents start to blend together, and smelling like your partner/family is an important part of bonding. I'd imagine that it plays into grieving process too. Even if you held on to the belongings of the deceased, their specific scent will eventually fade away from them as well.

aegon doesn’t really care. the servants can put whatever oil into his bath that they chose, and he will not protest. jasmine just hasn’t left the warm water since he was a child, bathed in his mothers safety. it mixes with the syrupy sweet smell of grapes and spice, mulled wine, that drips from his tongue when he opens his mouth.

It was never the performance itself that drew him in.

He'd aways been more moth than songbird; a winged thing that gravitated to light and life, to the beauty of souls reaching across the realm to become one with Those below.

He was the first, though, and so had laid his precedents: a patchwork legacy few could ignore;

That there is always a sleeve of myrrh hidden between the sticks of sandalwood and frankincense; the ashen coolness of cigarette smoke in their storerooms.

That there is greenery in the chapel windows and fresh-cut gardenias in the welcome hall, and songs of Olde sung lower than they were written, because the depth of such resonance was one he preferred.

That his brothers (the second, the third) and half-brother (the fourth) stand in off-kiltered lines, often, as though waiting for the loping strides of his pointed boots and velvet-crested shoulders.

That their congregation's siblings know his family's appointed title of Nonna more than the origin of his own name.

That Papa Emeritus the Second shuffled strangely when taking the pulpit, as though trying to fit into a misfitten pair of clothes—uncomfortable, now, after so many years spent in his brother's shadow.

That Papa Emeritus the Third often nosed into his office with coffee in hand, or chocolate-kissed biscotti, or tears hidden behind a painted smirk.

That Papa Emeritus the Fourth spoke of him kindly—of all of them kindly—no matter how they may have treated him, how they may have scorned him, their worldly forms now memorialized in stone.

Primo, in his living days, hadn't cared to worry over it.

He'd stepped down from a lifetime of rituals and tours with a joint behind his ear and a plait weaved through his silvered hair, his gnarled hands fitted with rings fit for a goddess—and he'd smiled, wry and wrinkled, lashlines creasing at the corners.

"You don't have to call me that, you know," he'd chided, when siblings bumbled over the formalities of Monsignor and Your Esteemed Grace and all else the Church had pompously chosen to title him with.

"You know what the little ones called me, mh?" he'd whisper on, winking a moon-white eye. "Rude shits. Peh! They could make the dictionary blush, my dear." And he'd lean closer, shoulder-to-shoulder, his words rumbled and silken. "Don't you worry about those other things. Just call me what you want, heh?"

So they did.

He treasured the ones who spoke his language of flowers; saw similar beauties in leaf-green eyes and petal-pink cheeks, in hair lovely as daffodils and soft as roses.

His brothers never shared the same admiration. But, then again—they did, in their own ways.

Secondo, in his nostalgia for the scent of gardenias.

Terzo, in his scuffed-heeled silence in a greenhouse sunlit but empty.

Copia, in the jewels sewn through his silks and the velvet gleaning off his suits.

Maybe from below, Primo had always kept his eye on them, with his laughter that hissed like snakes. Maybe it's where he'd always been meant to be: one again with the Aether below. A living giant, blossomed and brilliant and beautiful.

"He, eh...would have liked this, right?" Copia mumbles, wrist-deep in fresh soil, planting bulbs of bluebells in the cloister flowerbeds.

The question is meant for Sister Aris, kneeled and smiling beside him.

But in the corner of his eye, he sees a haze of shadow—a whisper of nothingness. The Bridge beyond, that he has always seen since his oath-taking; has always been.

It feels like Terzo, at first. Eyes piercing, and brow pinched, a stiffness in lips unpainted.

A soul that felt wild to him.

Wild, harsh, endless, like a cliffside gale swept over one's body. A viper-tongued beast with a fox's grin, and cleverness to match.

But the feeling warms, gradually. Not sunset-pink, the taste of incense—but violet, indigo, earthen.

A touch of soundless heels on damp earth.

"You don't have to ask, little one," Primo's voice utters over him, gentle as a prayer. And he smiles, like he'd always done. Wry, and wrinkled, and wondrous. "Of course I do." His bony hand, even if only in spirit, settles a cool touch on his shoulder. "Of course I do."

But that hand isn't there, not really. He knows it.

Just a moth-winged thing gravitated to the light.

What they all had always been.

Secondo, the pyre. Terzo, the star. Copia, the unearthed glow of Hell itself.

And Primo—

Primo had been the moonlight shining down on them. A guiding path through the night.

The hand on his shoulder pats him, softly, before it slides away.

"He would have," Sister Aris answers him.

Copia swallows, blinks, twitches a smile.

"I know," he whispers. Before him, bluebells gleam. "I know."

For how much Machete is described by others as off-putting, he really is a beautiful dog. Does Vasco ever tell him so? That his eyes make him look earnest, his fur the most comforting shade of white like cream, the way his ears catch light like stained glass? If someone doesn't tell him so, he'd forever think he was ugliest duckling

I think Vasco definitely tries, sincerely and often, but Machete is very reluctant to accept compliments and positive feedback. Especially if it's about something as personal and innate as his looks.

had a big night on my altar with Lord Dionysus.

i’ve been struggling a lot mentally, both with symptoms and figuring out medication, so i called upon Him, Sôtêrios, the Savior from Madness (i’m currently in a psychotic episode); Him, Kissios, Of the Ivy with my decorations of english ivy from around my house; Him, Agathos Daimon, The Good Spirit, to help me keep house and stay comfortable while all of this is going on; and finally, Him, Lamptêros, Of the Torches, to bring light into the darkness i am feeling.

i offered Him a frankincense incense stick, english ivy, ginger root with a symbol of Him carved into it, a libation of what i personally think is the best drink in the house (grapefruit citrus sparkling water…. i don’t drink alcohol), tarot cards i associate with him, stones and pendulums that are made with stones associated with him, as well as many, many candles. i also agreed to lighting His devotional candle more than usual and on every sunday to reaffirm what we have done today (as today is sunday)

even if Lord Dionysus only helps me a little, i will be eternally grateful. He has helped me through so much and when it comes to my mental health, especially because i have schizophrenia and people literally call me “mad”, i feel very connected to Him. i’m also genderqueer and embracing Him in my life has been easier coming to terms with my gender identity.

also when i finished my whole prayer, with His playlist on in the background, the current song ended and switched to one of my all time favorites on the playlist so ill take that as a good sign 🥰

✨House Cleansing✨

If you recently moved into a new space, you might want to consider cleansing your home of any negative energies that might still be there from the previous owners. A home should be a place where you feel relaxed and at peace. But when bad energy is lingering around, your home can become a place of hostility and negativity. This negative energy in your home can affect every other aspect of your life. Which is why house cleansing is an important practice to do regularly for your personal well-being.

There are many different ways to cleanse a home or even a single room in the house, and here’s how I cleanse my home/room.

1. First Thing’s First: Clean And Declutter Your House

Get rid of all the clutter by either putting things away or disposing them. Make sure to clean every corner! As you clean your home/room, know that keeping broken items (a statue with a broken arm put back with glue is fine but specifically ones that are irreparably broken) can bring down good energy. As well as items that doesn’t make you happy when you look or hold them. Use this time to get rid of it or donate if they are still in good condition and move on.

Then spend some time to dust, vacuum, and check for cobwebs. You don’t want the negative energy to have any reason to stick around.

Make sure to open all blinds, windows and if possible the doors. Let in as much light and fresh air as you can while you clean.

2. Remove Negative Energies From Your Home

When you cleared away the clutter, it is now time to start removing negative energies. A simple and fast way to clear out bad spirits and negative energy is smoke cleansing. You will need;

~ A fireproof dish for catching embers and ash

Let the smoke carefully waft around you first, beginning at your head and working down toward your feet. Walk clockwise going from room to room if it’s a home or just walk clockwise in a single room. Fan the smoke paying special attention to the walls, corners, floors, and even the ceiling. Envision the smoke absorbing bad energy and carrying it away through the open windows and doors.

Some people like to recite incantations or make positive affirmations as they are smoke cleansing. If you want, saying a prayer or appealing to a higher power for extra help with the house cleansing is perfectly fine.

If smoke cleansing isn’t possible, there are sprays you can use instead. Just mist carefully around you first and then spray around the home.

3. Further Protect Your Home

After smoke cleansing, I like to cleanse my home with salt. Pour salt (as much as you feel guided too) into each corner of your home/room. Ring a bell 3 times in each corner to break up any stagnant energy which the salt will absorb afterwards. After 2 days, vacuum or broom/dustpan the salt and throw it away. If your place has carpet or you want to clean up the salt easier you can pour the salt into a bowl and place them in the corners. If you don’t have a bell clapping with your hands works too.

Doors and windows are where outside energy can enter your home. Keep these spaces purified with a house cleansing solution. Mix a bucket of water with;

~juice from 5 Lemons

~1/4 cup ammonia or white vinegar

~1 cup of Sea Salt

Using a cloth, clean the doorknobs, doors, frames, and windows in your home with the solution and let it air dry. If you are cleansing a single room use 1 cup of water, 1/2 lemon, 2 teaspoons of ammonia or white vinegar, and 1/4 cup of sea salt.

4. After Cleansing Tips

Now that you’ve cleared the bad energy from your home, you can focus on attracting positive energy and protecting your cleansed space. Here are some things you can do:

You can keep cleansing and protecting your space with crystals. Place your chosen crystals in areas where bad energy seems to collect. Here are some crystals you might want to consider;

~Selenite can cleanse energy and raise the vibration in your home.

~Black Tourmaline is a protective crystal that absorbs negative energy.

Many people like to keep salt lamps in varies rooms around their place to continue clearing bad energy.

Witches broom also known as besoms, can help sweep away bad energy and protect against evil. Place a besom just inside your front door or room, hanging with bristles up, to ward off evil spirits and negative energies. A small besom can also be hung over the door with the bristles down to help catch negative energy before it enters the home.

Rearrange the furniture and objects in your home in a way that makes you happy. You can also buy new things to make your home feel better.

Planting rosemary near the front and back door of your home is said to keep negative spirits away.

Consecrate a candle or buy a candle created to bring good things, protection, etc. and light it to invite good energy into your home.

It is important to be aware of the energy in your home - good or bad. If you notice a shift in energy as time goes by, consider cleansing your home/room again. After all, your home should make you feel safe and be a place you can restore your energy.

anon I just remembered the glossier perfume samples in my bathroom drawer so I opened them for u <3 doux is a very warm creamy baby powder, the frankincense and myrrh adds a woody bottom note. I mixed it with my vanilla cocoa butter but it didn't layer well so I will have to skip it. Imo it's a little bit androgynous, ideal for a butch woman/nb gift :)

Reve I think wanted to be a gourmand but its very floral. I went in expecting buttercream but I'm just getting roses and amber and wood musk, feminine in a more aggressive way. Which isn't bad, but I'm not a one spritz lady so I cannot be very musky irl. I would gift this to an art historian in her 50s/60s, so maybe it's just too ornate for me? I will stick to vanilla and cocoa butter personally

Also, the original glossier you is one of my holy grails I will wear it as my main summer/spring fragrance until I hit middle age in the next 5 years, but I just have to have my vanillas in the fall/winter :)
