It's actually pretty difficult to make her jealous, if someone is obviously flirting with you then she's gonna get a little miffed at them.

She will make her presence known, and make sure that the person knows you're hers.

Alright, I'm going to try and keep this short since I'm still trying to fix the invisible text issue, and unfortunately, I'm still pretty peeved, but if I can't, then I apologise for any strange typos. I can't see shit past a certain point.

Basically, I was getting forcibly signed out damn near every thirty or so seconds for the last few days. It happened directly after a large update on my phone, and was joined by this weird vanishing text issue. I tried to fix it myself and failed, so I contacted the staff about it. However, while waiting for a reply, I figured out that the invisible text issue was the only true "glitch".

Apparently, someone thought it would be hilarious to hack my account and keep signing me out, as well as just generally fuck with some of my settings. I'm not sure who they are, but from the session description, they are apparently in the US.

I have since changed all my passwords twice and force logged out all ongoing sessions three times, just to be safe. I'm still in the process of figuring out just how much they've deleted and edited from my queue, drafts, and inbox, but it's turning out to be quite a long process.

I ask that you please bear with me until I sort this out and if the person involved in doing this happens to be a follower, Kindly Fuck Right Off Forever.

I want to write coherent stories like the comforts i used to write. I wish I could. I want so desperately to be able to. I remember how it helped me. I'm sorry for editing this post.

But i picture the setting, and describing it. How am I supposed to write a comfort now in which the walls aren't melting? In which there are no analogies? It's all analogies. I don't know, I'm trying really hard to make this post make sense and maybe I can clarify it later.

But. I try writing about sitting on a couch, and the couch is so painfully, achingly red. It is velvet with gold tassels and as I say this, I remember my (I shouldn't be editing this. Do not touch this. Do not touch this. Why did you correct the typo.) grandmother's throw pillows looked like that. I traced a child's fingertip along the divots, I remember, royal patterns in gold, an ancient trinket bought from dusty flea markets by my grandmother. Eyes open, laid back, on days I was able to go to the living room, rare days.

And the more I look at it, I see that the analogies aren't analogous at all. They're secrets, woven in how my fingers type automatically and even this is difficult. I hope you understand how much care I am placing into you (scratch back, delete into you. Another analogous trigger reflecting something deep. What I meant to say was how hard I am trying to type what I "mean" rather than what comes natural.)

What I am trying to say is. I can write, it just won't make sense. I won't write. I can't stay focused on the topic, which I recognize is because in states like this I am unable to detach from the malignant mass that sustains me and my lucidity regarding trauma. Like, those masses that tree trunks get. If you tethered a child to it, and connected them to it via wires like the matrix.

I promise I am not trying to sound cryptic on purpose. I just literally cannot write anything at all right now. I don't really feel tethered to characters anyway.

I tried reading one of my fics I wrote and my eyes glazed over and none of the contents existed unfortunately. So I tried writing another one and it didn't work out, it just ended up like This clusterfuck of a post (I am masking! Look at me trying to appear clear and to my "actual" point!).

Anyway. I'm traumatized. This happens whenever I get retraumatized. Don't worry about it. I was going to say my brain is like an egg salad before remembering you don't fry the eggs for an egg salad, so.

17. talk about your writing and editing process

Well, the process is pretty straightforward, actually. I get an idea, usually accompanied with at least a couple dialogue exchanges. I write down everything that I have, which is now the skeleton of my outline. I look at it and try to identify what's missing from it and how much I need to make the story functional aka to have it accomplish what I want from it. Often that means that I realize that I don't know what I want from it so then I have to think about that. This is usually the part where I file ideas away for later and they are added to my ideas doc.

If I do figure out what I want from it, I keep adding to the outline until I'm sure I have everything that I need - that means all scenes in order, complete with actions and dialogue. I may not know a couple details here and there but I try to at least have a direction such as what kind of emotion I want to express in the gap or what concept has to be introduced in order to make the whole thing comprehensible. Then I start writing, which is usually the hardest part. I have been known to spend more than half an hour actively working on a single sentence so... I take my time with the first draft (technically the outline is kind of the first draft). I prefer to edit less later than write quicker and then have to edit more.

I've found that when I get stuck, it's because I don't really know what I want to say. Despite all the outlining and thinking and considering, I often end up realizing that I don't know what I'm trying to say. Once I figure that out, it becomes a matter of how to say it so that it's not just telling stuff that I should be showing. It takes a while but eventually I get what I want. Sometimes I give up and just tell it and decide I'll come back to it later.

For editing I usually go over the text and rework every sentence that is convoluted or doesn't sound right or repeats a sentence structure I've already used 3 times in the last 5 sentences. Generally speaking, I don't have to do structural edits or rewrite entire scenes because I've already done the heavy lifting during the outline stage so most things are in their right places. I have had to move paragraphs and sentences and words around like I'm putting Frankenstein's monster together from various body parts but that's usually the case when I'm possessed by an idea and don't spend enough time outlining and structuring it or I've missed the step of asking myself what I'm trying to say. Otherwise, most of my editing is on a sentence level and then I do another read to watch out for typos and whether or not I need to switch some pronouns to names.

I don't usually keep them but I do have a couple paragraphs from Fallen Love that I discarded as they directly contradicted a much more important idea so I'm pretty sure I'm not going to use them (for this story at least) and can post them:

I looked at his Tiktok account for a week, So I went to comment on his post. I thought he would credit me in the comments of his post, but no, He deleted all my comments to him yesterday

So I posted the story, But in the story post I used the wrong terminology and I apologize

Moments after I posted the story, he DMed me using his personal Instagram account content according to the video [I'll summarize it for you]

What does your editing process look like? Asking because I tend to just try to get everything perfect as I’m writing and then I’ll proofread before posting, it hasn’t really occurred to me to edit after I’m done

Editing as you write, for me, means getting nothing done. I've tried it and I spend ages on the same paragraph and then I get frustrated and quit haha

I use the Stephen King method of writing and editing. I sit down, start writing, and just keep going without stopping until I'm done with the scene or just mentally drained and done for the day. No going back and reading when I just put down, no pausing. If I don't know what I want them to say immediately I just type (SOME STUFF HERE) and keep banging away with what I know will come next.

Then once the whole thing is done (and I mean the whole thing, if it's gonna be a 50k fic I want all 50k out and DONE) I go back. I read the thing from start to finish without changing a single thing, just reading. That's how I figure out where the plot holes are, or if some theme doesn't get carried through to the end.

I also do this thing where I kinda sit back and unfocus my eyes and look at the shape of the text. Do I have like five huge blocks of writing one after the other? Do I have a ton of super short 2 sentence paragraphs all in a row? I check the 'shape' of the text to see how things flow, and if there's a super huge chunk of heavy reading I note that I need to either add some short stuff in between or edit those paragraphs down.

Any ideas I have at this point I make notes of but I don't start the edit immediately. I walk away for the rest of the night and then come back the next day.

THEN. Step 3. The REAL edit. I read and edit as I go, adding stuff in, taking stuff out, deleting scenes or noting where I need to add a scene/transition. Again, super important, go through all the way from start to finish and try not to jump around because that only leads to confusion.

Once that's done I walk away from the thing for at least a few days and try to forget about it until I feel about ready to post.

The night before I wanna post it I'll scan through one more time, make any last second edits and fix any typos. Paste it into AO3. Save as a draft.

Now if it's truly done, then the next day when I want to post it hitting the post button will be a breeze. If I feel any hesitation? I do one last pass, because that's my gut telling me something is missing/wrong. My gut has always been right.

It sounds super involved but on a fic under 10k it's no problem, it's a matter of taking little one hour chunks over the course of a couple days.

For something big like Blood Sanation, scrivener has been a godsend (THANK YOU everyone who bought me a ko-fi, I got the program and I love it ♥) Putting each scene into its own document keeps me from getting lost in the fic and lets me edit the scenes one at a time.

It's all about making the process small manageable chunks! I'm just burnt out on it from dealing with Blood Sanation and having like four other wips ready for edits at the same time haha

lemme talk about some TTTE OCS!

So this was a long time coming. I tried to post an OC once before but I chickened out and deleted his post. So, here's some lore rundowns for a bunch of my OCs! And by that I mean all of 'em! And my sona, as a bonus! (and details on my personal canon!!!)

(This took me like 3 attempts to write because Tumblr kept eating the part about Wesley when I accidentally hit ctrl+z because I made a typo on Forsythia's basis :sob:)

Putting a break so I don't clog any tags haha

So, for the third time I am trying to write this (dear god), behold, Wesley the Show Engine (and his tender that I admittedly drew in a rush when I drew it)! Wesley is based on Furness No. 20's original batch of 0-4-0 locomotives, generally based on Furness No. 20 in design but less so in backstory. Canonically, he was made after that batch of locos but his build date is undecided still.

He was made for a Collector, Mr. Titus Lancaster. The two attended engine shows for years, and while Wesley enjoyed it, he was rather isolated from other engines and rolling stock for many years. He admired the railway working life from afar and longed to have it.

Eventually his wish would be granted in both his and his Collector's old age when he donated him to the NWR.

Wesley's a rather interesting character to me in his origins. He's an old engine but very inexperienced with the rails.

Personality-wise, he's kindhearted, hardworking, sincere, passionate, and would rather get along with others, but he can be very gullible (early on) due to his lack of experience, and is imbued with the spirit of Sodor's karmic justice itself. (Read: he's really vengeful at times. If you cross him, he wants to ensure you get your just desserts.)

He's humble and quick to admit to his mistakes and apologize when he messes up (an uncommon trait on the railways LOL), and while he's open-minded, he's also willing to admit he's a bit foolish and unworldly. He mainly works on Edward's Branch Line.

He likes snow and snowploughs (he finds them comfortable in the way a weighted blanket or lead x-ray wear is comfortable), karma, being out and about, any work at all, and bugs.

He dislikes being patronized/infantilized/treated as if he's stupid and incapable, geese (there was an incident), most animals, the sound of babies crying, and almost all trucks. He's open to the idea of there being trucks that aren't troublesome but he doesn't know any yet.

I'd like to highlight a central relationship he has in his stories, that of his relationship with Edward. The two were quick friends and once made eye contact at an engine show YEARS before they properly met (though neither recognized the other). Eventually that friendship became a tendency to want to work together more and more often, and the duo became very close indeed... and then they started being gay as all hell. Gay ol' engines. Good for them! (They get married in a plotline of mine. I'm dead serious. Gay train wedding!!!)

EDIT: Something I forgot to note! While he's also vengeful, he's insists on doing nice things for others who have done nice things for him. Everything is a two-way street. One turn deserves another, good or bad.

Moving right along, we have a narrow gauge duo!

I present to you Forsythia the Rambunctious Engine and Nicolas, her coach. Forsythia was based on the 2-4-0T Rheidol/Talybont/Treze de Maio and a fucked up kiddie ride I saw once.

Yeah, it's a really fucked up kiddie ride.

These two are owned by Ms. Tiffany Lancaster, the niece of Wesley's former Collector (who has passed by the time she obtains these two). They are often loaned to the Skarloey to help out there (until a later event we'll touch on with the next OC).

These two got BWBA'd before I even knew what the hell was going on in BWBA. Except it's much more realistic and boring in execution. Just a lot of boring time on cargo ships with shipping mix-ups! They got to Sodor though, don't worry.

They've got the energy of childhood best friends imo. Also, Forsythia and Wesley consider one another cousins, but like, adoptive cousins specifically.

Forsythia is down to clown and is cheeky and mischievous and a prankster but she is an experienced variety. And she knows when to back off. And she will, if you ask her (and you're not on her list of Those She Is Close Enough To Clown Upon Always And Forever or Those I Hate)! I'd say she's... like... young adult or teenager -coded. She's very energetic and a Large Ham if you know about that trope.

Now, look at Nicolas, her coach. Tell me, when you look at him, do you think he's the serious sort? You'd be wrong there. He's also down to clown! And he's here for the shenanigans as well. He's simply the quiet, observant deadpan to Forsythia's rambunctious large ham.

[EDIT: I never noted that sometimes these two's antics involve collaborating with the Troublesome Trucks. Forsythia's always offended when the inevitable betrayal happens.]

Now for that lore thing I mentioned. I have an adaptation of Toby's Discovery in my AU in which TFC does not manage that part of the railway. Instead he does participate in its restoration but it is ran by none other than Tiffany Lancaster! Forsythia is the Ulfstead Heritage Railway's Engine No. 2! (Engine No. 1 is Bertram; Forsythia would've been No. 1 if some contract things with the Skarloey Railway didn't have to be sorted out first.)

[EDIT: Now that Forsythia and Nicolas are consistently on a railway, they do have a cluster of trucks that won't betray them because of how fun things just tend to be with those two.]

And on that railway, eventually there arrived a BR Class 12 Diesel, but refitted to narrow gauge.

I present my final OC, Sycorax. Sycorax's arc is very dear to me because it has origins in both a random thought I had, a quote Awdry said in a video I watched, and my own opinions on locomotives and Sodor.

I can see where Awdry was coming from on this - he witnessed dieselization firsthand! But boy, I think diesels (and electrics!) have their charm and I'm really fond of them actually. I know it's very different as a modern reader who barely has any exposure to locomotives in person anyways due to the infrastructure of the United States just… Sucking sometimes, but nevertheless, my point stands.

Sycorax's arc starts with them in a most dire place: about to be scrapped. But fate saves them and they're refitted and brought to Sodor, where they find that, despite being the new thing, they're envious of steam engines, seeing their charm and the fact that they'll always be in fashion somewhere… And they feel generic and replaceable.

But eventually they start to realize that diesels become obsolete too. Now this is particularly regarding a dash of TVS canon but I like to think that the diesels of Sodor are there because Sodor, is too, a safe haven for them as well as steam engines. That's why absolute assholes stay around sometimes, it's because they've nowhere else to go. Sycorax realizes their envy is unwarranted, and that Sodor is a safehaven for all types of engines who need it, it's just that, at the time, steam engines needed it most. And they're not replaceable. And this is home now.

The Secondman is literally a self-insert/sona guy who's a human studying on modern day Sodor. He volunteers on the railways of the island often. In-universe, he writes my fanbooks, my silly little shitposts about various Engine Incidents, and a whole bunch of other things. And he's having a good time.

I haven't drawn him. But nevertheless!

Do you edit as you go or do you finish the chapter/scene then edit? I find myself rereading my work after I read and thinking it sucks and stopping it. Do you edit your work? I feel as though I compare myself to writers believing they write so well they don’t edit and that I must suck if i edit so much. So sorry if i’m rambling 😭. Writing is hard.

writing is hard. incredibly hard. and it's not worth it in the slightest to compare your drafts to someone else's finished works! of course i edit my work. i edit it to hell and back. and i'm not sure i could come up with a single person i know who puts their work out there 100% unedited. editing is a massive part of the writing process, and usually where a story really starts to take shape.

as for the logistics of the first couple of questions, if you find that rereading what you're working on zaps your motivation to finish, then my vote is to finish first, then reread. that's usually my process. if im writing something longer i might edit/revise chapter by chapter. but if i'm working on a one shot or something shorter, i don't let myself reread at all until i have draft one done. especially if you're someone with perfectionist tendencies, editing as you go can sometimes mean never finishing because the edit loop can trap you and kill all forward momentum.

i'm a big fan of doing word sprints as a way to combat the impulse to reread. a true word sprint involves a getting as many words written in a set amount of time (best experienced with friends imo), with no deleting or editing during the sprint. all the typos stay. all the wording you want to change the moment you finish the sentence stays. its a great way to desensitize yourself to your work being messy and imperfect. so if you haven't tried word sprints before, highly recommend!

And...are you still looking for alternatives? The fediverse has several OldeTwitter-like software platforms, each with multiple servers. I personally have tried only three, but I have been active on each of them for several months:

Misskey (looks Twitter-like, but has different features/UI/abilities)

Calckey/Firefish (often has a 3K character limit; but the server admin can choose that limit)

Mastodon (the software that's gotten the most press. Closest feel as ye olde Twitter, but no quote-tweeting and 500 character limit by default)

My personal favorite is Calckey/Firefish. Higher character limits on most servers, and I like the UI and functionality better than Mastodon. Fair warning, though: Firefish doesn't let you edit posts - you can delete the former instance of the post, autocopy all the text into a new post-field, edit that text, and then post that new thing. This is still helpful for those instances where you post something, almost instantly find a typo or remember something additional, and are okay with deleting the former post and only posting the fixed version.

For those of you who sometimes forget to add alt text to your images, there's a bot-account you can follow who will ping you whenever you post an image and don't add alt text.
