Aaaand considering the holiday and the post office's own down day, it's been almost a week since we've been able to get packages. The other day we received like 6 emails saying there's something to pick up and I swear to christ if my game isn't in there imma loooooose me shit!!

Buuuut if it is my game I'm probably just gonna binge that all day and randomly scream abt on disco, so be prepped for that, frands!! X3

And also also, I'm going camping this weekend so I'm bound to be a bit quiet on the socials for the next??? four days or so, give or take.

8. Your favorite fight/encounter.

Hmmmmm this is tough to pick just one! Each campaign has their unique flavors and favorite moments.

In my first campaign there was one moment in the first boss encounter where my character shouted a desperate/enraged “are you satisfied yet?!” at the boss who’d challenged us to a duel and we were almost beating him but also we were dying at an alarming rate. And he just chuckled, spat out some blood, and said “this is nearly fun.”

Then there was the time in my second campaign that my Tiefling Monk punched a Shambling Mound so hard he got his fist stuck inside it (I rolled a nat 20 followed by a nat 1), and then our Druid cast Moonbeam on it and its true form was revealed as a writhing mass of assorted limbs and flesh, and then our Bard made it terrified so on its next turn (before I had a chance to do anything), it TOOK OFF RUNNING 60FT AWAY WITH MY MONK STILL STUCK TO IT AND SCREAMING IN ABJECT HORROR. He was never quite the same after that, poor guy.

And in my Discord campaign, my team wanted to double-cross the shady guy who told us to retrieve a mysterious box, and keep the box. My monk grabbed the box, punched the druid in the face, and tried to escape. Ended up fighting him and the Fighter until our DM’s plot-moving NPC summoned an Efreeti and told it to stop us. It was the most fun I’ve had in this campaign while it lasted anyway hahah. I nearly KO’d the druid.

And of course my one foray into Savage Worlds when my good “normal” boy Felix was pinned down under a gotdamn T-Rex foot and used his newly-discovered Burrow ability to just melt into the ground and escape, then rose up from the dirt behind this massive dinosaur and fucking (attempted to) barbecued it with flames from his fingers. :D

18. Does your party keep any pets?Aside from our ranger having a bear in one campaign and our druid loving to wild-shape all the time in another campaign, I don’t think I’ve ever had a campaign with real pets! I tried hard in my first campaign to get a mastiff but the most the DM would let me do is make friends with the dogs I found in the caravan we were traveling with. Someday though… I will be a ranger with like 5 doggos and a DM who’s patient enough to let me do that bahahahah.

20. How did you get into D&D? How long have you been playing?

I’d had some interest in it for a while but wasn’t sure how to find groups. Then in mid- or late 2017 a few of my coworker-friends were like “hey we’re gonna try some d&d” and a couple others were more familiar with d&d and one agreed to be our DM and brought some of his outside friends along. And thus began the adventures of Akiriann Shestendeliath, the blue Dragonborn Sorcerer who started out pure but ended up as a terribly twisted “i became the monster who tried to kill me aND IT FEELS GREAT” murder hobo/possible secret boss of part 2 of the campaign. Because character development!

Serena:4) Describe their worst nightmareSurviving all the shit she’s been through and is going through now only to discover that her deepest fear was correct–she’s reached her limit, she’s irreparably damaged, she’s not equipped to live beyond the trauma–and collapsing in on herself, abandoning everyone she cares about and becoming the worthless, hateful creature she always knew she was deep down.

16) Is there anyone who makes them feel inferior?Well there’s Aniello, but he makes everyone feel inferior so that’s a given. Other than that… people (particularly women) who are kind and gentle despite the hardships in their lives. Serena is made of sharp-edged diamonds and she ends up cutting nearly everyone around her if they try to get too close, and she hates it. So to see someone who has been through things that should have made them hard and unapproachable and yet they stay soft and gentle, scrapes away at her self-worth like nobody’s business.

30) Have they ever been bullied?She was probably bullied in elementary and middle school. She was a quiet, moody child with an explosive temper who wouldn’t hesitate to punch, kick, bite, and scream her way out of (or into) any confrontation (which helped semi-attentive adults explain away all her bruises). Safe to say she didn’t make many friends in those years.

Rhett: 10) What is their greatest mental weakness?I wasn’t sure how to interpret this one, as a personal flaw or as a mental illness issue, so I did both: A) A firm belief that he must be everything a romantic partner needs and if he isn’t then he should let them go, or B) He has voices in his head telling him to do a lot of violence and other bad shit.

27) How many times have they been in the hospital?Uhhhhh way too many to count. He was the target of a lot of severe bullying/abuse from adults when he was younger and he has a sort of magic-soul-related condition where he doesn’t heal very quickly, so he probably spent a lot of time in the hospital while Serena tried to heal him without passing out.

31) Do they have self-confidence or self-image issues?Kind of? He grew up with most of the people he knew telling him he was the spawn of the devil and he was going to kill all of them someday, while a few close, trusted people insisted that he was amazing and one day people would see what a sweet and awesome person he was. So his own view ended up somewhere in the middle. He spends most of his time being a super-friendly ray of sunshine with snappy comebacks and a bright smile to defuse any situation, and occasionally (when provoked, & “helped” by those voices) becomes a snarling ball of fiery, murderous rage and spends the next while terrified that all those other people are right and he really is just a monster.

Arjun: 17) What sound always gives them a headache?This poor boy has the unfortunate combination of extremely good/superhuman hearing and being prone to migraines from noises that are too loud. So. Anything that’s loud or very high pitched will probably give him a headache if it goes on too long. He also sort of just always has a headache because he has very sensitive eyes (albinism) so light hurts too.

39) Have they ever been accused of something they didn’t do?His entire childhood, pretty much. He was generally disliked and bullied by everyone in his city/town/village, so I imagine the other kids used him as a scapegoat a lot. He was easy to pick on and bad at defending himself because he’d get angry at the accusations.

45) What is the emotion they most commonly experience?A vague sense of anxiety about how others are perceiving him, mixed with defensiveness. Basically always ready to assume the worst intent from everyone at all times.

Oh man, I had this freeze-up moment when thought, “But did I post five fics this past year?”  Good news: I DID!  Also, you can really see when I began taking my fiction class and started focusing almost entirely on my original writing, whoops.  jsyk, I have been continuing to write fic, but wrapping up/polishing/posting hasn’t been happening lately. 

ANYWAY, ON TO THE LIST.  I actually really like all of the stories that I put up on AO3, but for the sake of the meme, consider this ordering indicative of how pleased I am with them (#1 being tops, etc.):

1.  Doubt You More (Pinto, Star Trek RPF, Explicit), 25,462 words. 

Maybe Zach has got Chris over a barrel where Chris's debt is concerned.  But sooner or later, Zach will have to see that he can't make Chris do every little thing that he wants.   The second story in the Fiction Romance series, featuring mob boss Zach and stressed-out high-achieving undergrad and reluctant rent boy Chris.

Mafia AU/Rent Boy AU!  This is the second story in my Fiction Romance series.  Doubt You More really let me tease out the dynamic between Chris and Zach and get further into Chris’s head, which is the kind of thing I love.  At times I think I should have turned FR into an original novel; I’ve probably let it take up too much of my mental landscape and spent too much time tweaking references and weaving in narrative threads.  But I’ve had really lovely interactions because of this story and so that part of the process has been a pleasure.  Heed the warnings and tags on this one if you haven’t read it and you decide to give it a look-see. 

2.  Take a Bite of My Heart Tonight (McKirk, Star Trek AOS, Teen), 26,598 words. 

Jim Kirk and Leonard McCoy get off on the wrong foot as soon as they meet.  So if Jim wants another shot with that gorgeous but grumpy veterinarian, he had better get his hands on some pets who need vet appointments, right?

Veterinarian AU!   I had a great time writing this one; I really like working in a variety of pairings in a given fandom, but for a variety of reasons I don’t branch out much in Star Trek.  So it was a ton of fun to explore McKirk, even if it was in an AU guise, and I so loved exploring Jim’s friendships with Gaila and Uhura. And Take a Bite of My Heart Tonight is one of those stories where I really sold myself on the pairing as I wrote the story; it’s always fun to fall in love with the whole concept of the two characters together as they’re falling for each other in the narrative.

3.  Susceptible (Spirk, Star Trek AOS, Teen), 8,352 words 

Spock drew himself up, clasping his hands behind his back.   "Captain Kirk, permit me to state the facts.  Your eyes have become glassy, you are not fully attuned to your surroundings, and, as I can attest because we recently touched hands, your palms have begun to perspire."  "Yikes," Jim muttered, running his fingers through his hair.  "You sure know how to make a guy feel good, Spock."

OR, Spock has a science conference to attend, Jim is a crabby patient who's apt to wander off if he's not watched like a hawk, and there's always an alien equivalent to ginger ale.   With bonus head rubs and accidental feelings!

Sick fic!  I can’t help it, frands; I love reading and writing sick fic, and for some reason Jim and Spock lend themselves so well to the trope in my imaginings.  This story is perhaps a little extended for a fluff scenario, but what the hell -- it gave me lots of chances to write feverish and goofy Jim and helplessly devoted Spock!

4.  Mix It Up (Pinto, Star Trek RPF, Mature), 5,881 words 

Whenever Zach tries to focus on the good stuff and remember this is what Chris wants, he can't ignore the whisper inside his mind that tells him, it's what he wants for now.

Angst!  Established Relationship in Crisis!   Man, I spent a TON of time thinking about this and weaving the story together just so; I think it was fairly successful as a carefully crafted narrative, and so that part of writing the story was very positive for me.  I think I got a little bit let down after posting this one though?  It sort of stalled me on Pinto, even though I felt happy with the story.  Maybe it was the subject matter, but I don’t think readers dug the scenario as much as I did.  Or maybe my fic got a bit lost in the rush of works all shared during Pinto de Mayo -- which, having a pile of fics posted was absolutely the whole point of everyone celebrating a fandom milestone together, of course!  But with a small fandom, maybe it overloaded readers and writers so that we didn’t have the energy to give all the individual works attention?  Hard to say. and I don’t totally know how other writers/readers felt about it at the time.  At any rate, I enjoyed creating little parallel moments and connecting images and writing a different sort of take on Zach and Chris, so it’s definitely a story I’m proud of overall. 

5.  Pair Up (Pinto, Star Trek RPF), Teen, 1,960 words 

If Zach had spotted this version of Chris P. at the mall back home?   He'd have trailed him down the concourse a couple of shops behind, trying to look absorbed in his phone and his smoothie while the whole time willing that super-hot guy to turn around and notice him once, just once.

Summer Camp AU!  This was part of a spate of Pinto prompt fills, but it was the only one that was long enough to qualify as “fic” rather than ficlet, so I tossed it up on AO3.  If I had a ton more time, I may have tried to spin the story out into a longer fic.  For a variety of reasons it’s going to remain a stand-alone, though I’d be happy to talk headcanons about it at some point (summer camp setting + teen Pinto =  my heart skipping a beat).

When I joined Coldwall a year ago I hadn’t roleplayed as Mahat in forever, and she and I were both kinda hesitant and nervous about being around new people. You took the time to get to know ‘Hat, which helped me get to know her again, and I appreciate that enormously. Marc and ‘Hat are a couple of sassmouth shady cinnamon rolls and I love their friendship. Thanks for all the crime, nerd.

I get excited honestly whenever I see you post something, but especially for your stories and art. You are such a lovely, genuine, warm presence, and Rask is such a delightful character in any medium. I know we both get pretty busy with real life, but I hope we get to keep writing together for a long time to come!

It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship, IC and OOC. You’ve been so great and encouraging to talk to when I needed it. I’m a huge fan of the way you write Wolf and I have fuuun plotting with you. Probably almost as much fun as ‘Hat and Wolf have kicking each other’s teeth in at the fighting pit! Almost.

@xerxes-jasper, I love how you play your characters and how willing you are to roll with the punches to make a good story, even when it gets Xerxes thrown in a lake. :D Xerxes is a Precious Baboo and a Good Spoop Son, and ‘Hat rolls her eye at his antics sometimes but trust me behind the keyboard I am giggling like a fiend.

HI WE’VE NEVER MET INGAME but I’m super into your aesthetic posts and in awe of your dedication and respect for a type of character that usually gets neither. Caterina is a deeply human, fleshed-out character with a shallow sparkly surface and you portray all her facets so, so well. I hope she finds happiness again, I’m rooting for her!

@high-inquisitor, you and Archelaos are pretty much the definition of dedication to my mind; he goes through a lot of changes, but you always somehow manage to keep him himself. He’s a great character who fills a lot of roles to a lot of different people, and you play him with a determination and creativity that I really admire. We don’t RP much (I might be low-key intimidated by you shhhh), but I always enjoy reading your writing when it shows up on my feed, and think your aesthetic is killer.

My Opinion on;

Character in general: EVA!! This literal shining star. She is as powerful as she is sweet and caring. Just a GODDESS OK!! How they play them: I'm always interested in how people grasp onto a playable character and are able to create an entire world around them that surpasses the original verse. And there is just SO MUCH LORE!!! I mean have you witnessed the amazingness that span's Eva's background? I wanna roll around in all that development... snuggle up in a lore blanket, or smth XD And Eva and Cindy's friendship is so very precious to me, I wouldn't trade it for anything! The Mun: We've spoken a little in IMs but I neeeeed to roll up in disco more cause Valkyrie is such a precious bun and I love all the moments we randomly gush over our sun baes being frands and hanging out ^u^
