sometimes i think about “this place wants us dead” and how it’s such an obvious example of foreshadowing, but it still ends up subverted in some way. like really think about it. the place doesn’t kill them, not really. they bring the diseases and the sickness with them. the lead is already in the cans before they leave. the food was already rotten. even tuunbaq is a man-made creature, not a bear like they originally think. it’s just. it’s not the place not really. the tragedy is that they were already doomed. they were doomed before stepping on their ships and they were doomed before they even reached the arctic and they were doomed before they even got stuck in the ice. she’s been dead since the beginning etc etc. i also think it’s so interesting that it’s also the remnants of colonialism that kills them. obviously james’ bullet wound is the obvious one but also the act of hubris in of itself. the fact that they think that they can last with their supplies. maybe the land does want them dead. maybe they were already dead. idk

There is a Metternich wine being sold in basically every German supermarket. I've known about if for years, but only now decided to look into the backstory of that and it turns out that Metternich was gifted the vineyard Johannisberg in the Palatinate (a region known for its vineyards) to secure his financial situation after the wars.
I mean if Napoleon gets accused of "starting wars for fun" I'm gonna start spreading the word that Metternich stirred shit up so that he could eventually slap his name on some mid wine :P

kuroshitsuji's chapters have been padding for time for a longtime now, but im just as afraid the manga will rush it's conclusion towards the end (ive seen it before) and not spend anytime on characters we do like. So which characters do yall want to have a major character moment before the story ends?*
*Im not counting major characters like Lizzy, Soma, the Queen, etc, who i'm certain will get focus eventually. this is more for characters whose importance in the the plot is a little shaky atm and could change at a moment's notice (aka Yana's whims)

I just watched Austentatious: The Queer Eye for the Regency Guy and it truly has everything. A man with the foulest walk who has a hyperfixation on Napoleon. A homosexual cousin. A woman whose father has been “dead” for seven years despite being alive up in the study the whole time. A murderous butler who’s gaslighting everyone. Saucy Sally’s Sausage Shop where all of the actors broke and one was in literal tears over the sexual innuendos. Dream sequence hats. The Chekov reference not being understood and that being baked into the sister’s character. Love wins. A marriage between two freaks who sat next to each other every day at Sunday (everyday) school who both love Napoleon. I’m obsessed.

I'm reading about APH Canada's bio in the hetawiki and I just realized how disconnected Matthew and Francis' relationship in fanon vs canon. Idk if it's updated (the wiki) but it literally just states that their relationship wasn't really dwelled into in the manga. The only 'in-depth' description of their relationship is that Canada got his hair from France. HOWEVER, Matthew and Arthur's relationship was a little more in depth than Francis and Matthew's relationship. It states in the hetawiki that, "When England fell gravely ill after losing to America and losing much of his support from other European countries, Canada was shown to be his caretaker, and England was extremely grateful for his presence and loyalty." PLEASE I AM SOBBING IM STARTING TO LIKE ARTHUR MORE

"We therefore need to separate out the 'facets' of [Anne de Pisseleu's] life, the way she was perceived by different groups and individuals. According to these, she could be viewed as an ornament to the court, a grasping favorite, a desired patroness, an able businesswoman, later on as a pillar of the reformed church and cantankerous old woman. At different times and over a long life, Anne de Pisseleu played all these roles."
David Potter, "The Life and After-Life of a Royal Mistress: Anne de Pisseleu, Duchess of Étampes"
#historicwomendaily#I wanted this to be my first post on this blog for this new year because I love her! So much!#She's absolutely captivating and had such a colourful and unapologetic life#anne de pisseleu#french history#Francis I#16th century#my post#queue#I can't believe I haven't posted anything about her before - she's probably one my top 10 most interesting historical women#She's ridiculously overlooked & underrated which is bizarre considering how infamous and wildly important she was during her life#But instead her vital impact on Francis's reign and on the informal 'institution' of the French royal mistress is often completely erased#or trivialized in historical accounts - both general and academic#And when she *is* noticed she's demonized (and thus dismissed) as capricious/duplicitous/vengeful/selfish etc#as Kathleen Wellman* points out: a lot of this is due to her ties to Francis I - who's considered the most important French Renaissance Kin#So Anne's power and impact is diminished and downplayed in order to preserve and lionize his reputation#but she's simultaneously viewed as the villainous who's responsible for his mistakes. It's inherently contradictory :/#(not to say that she was pristine or faultless or anything - ofc not - but I think you get what I'm saying)#and of course she was seen as 'the epitome of the deleterious effects of giving women too much authority' during her time so that probably#plays a key role in how she's currently perceived#she's also sometimes viewed as a sort of 'prelude' to Diane de Poitiers - which is ridiculous because it's *Anne* who set the precedent#for a lot of things Diane and later royal mistresses are now renowned for. But her spearheading role and immense impact is never#highlighted or credited as much as it should be.#Oh well. At least David Potter and Tracy Adams are doing a great job with her. Props to them they're fantastic :)#(btw I genuinely think that people who are interested in Anne Boleyn should look her up I think y'all will really like her)#(Both Annes were direct contemporaries and I think they had a very similar style)#*Wellman's book had lots of errors and assumptions but eh
