Shunsui: nothing really changed, tbh. Other than a lack of people yelling at him, he’s still up to the same old shenanigans

Soi-Fon: retirement isn’t for her. She denies ever leaving and continues her captain’s duties, much to her replacement’s annoyance

Unohana: people say retirement has treated her well- she looks younger, more relaxed. But what people don’t know, is that she’s been taking up training again. Apparently it’s a good outlet

Shinji: he embraces not having to wear a haori a little to enthusiastically.

Byakuya: Bya is finally able to embrace his long awaited hobby: art. Now that he lacks captain responsibilities, he finds himself experimenting with various crafty materials

Sanjin: he spends his time running around and playing with his grandchildren. He’s absolutely wrapped around their little fingers, no doubt about it

Kensei: Jushiro recruits him into his garden/cooking craze. Kensei honestly doesn’t mind, except when he has to deliver Jyuu’s veggie presents. He’s insulted by the raised eyebrows and outright giggles whenever he shows up at people’s doors..carrying a package with veggie-themed wrapping paper..and a hat that reads: “if there’s any problem, please lettuce know”

Jushiro: due to his plethora of free time, Jyuu now has a ginormous, thriving garden. He spends his time wrapping his veggies into cute little presents and giving them away, as well as cooking vast amounts of recipients with his garden-picked ingredients

the evolution of Phoenix and Edgeworth’s friendship after Phoenix becomes an attorney is so interesting to me. at the highest level, they go from one-sided-enemies to close friends. but there’s a really complicated point that spans the end of AA1 through Edgeworth’s return in JfA where they’re in this complicated limbo of not-strangers, not-enemies, not-entirely-friends. there’s clearly an immense amount of mutual respect and admiration between them, but I almost think that one was one of the largest barriers to their friendship. through Farewell My Turnabout, their relationship is almost entirely based on their careers, and there’s something almost sacred/untouchable (and, philosophically, Platonic) about their commitment to pursuing justice together. their early friendship is entirely defined by their agreement to push each other in court in order to bring about goodness.

and a relationship built entirely on Virtue and Justice is clearly admirable—but how does that translate into casual friendship? do you laud righteousness in the courtroom and then go get big macs together? I think both of them would almost see that as a degradation of the thing they’d built together. they both revere their relationship. 

and that righteous (but ultimately untenable) relationship satisfies their desire for closeness for a while. it satisfies until Edgeworth dies and Maya is kidnapped, and the dam breaks, and Phoenix needs to rely on Edgeworth as Edgeworth has relied on him. turning that friendship into something that includes emotions and flaws and even casualness must have been terrifying for both of them. but it was necessary in order to change their relationship from one where Phoenix and Edgeworth push each other to their limits in the courtroom to reach a just verdict to one where Edgeworth can relax and enjoy himself at Phoenix’s daughter’s magic shows.

look the thing about john gaius is that he is of course a Bad Man who has done bad things like slaughter cows, destroy the earth in nuclear armeggedon, attempt genocide, and live stream. but at the end of the day he is just a funny little guy who says things like "what would I know, I'm only god," and I simply cannot hate him. I mean should we put him in acid jail? Yes. absolutely. acid jail for god for ten thousand years. but I think they should let him out sometimes to say funny little things too. like a court jester, but god and covered in acid.

I'm listening to Murph on a podcast episode from 2020 (The Curiosity Podcast - spotify/apple podcasts/podbean) and I feel like I'm getting to know so much Murph Lore, much of which makes him very relatable to me like

people are shocked to learn he does comedy because he's so quiet, and he's not particularly good at meeting new people or making friends, so he hangs on to and appreciates the friends he has

looking after the stray cats, "to help an animal help its young and make sure they're all taken care of has been a wonderful thing that makes me feel feelings that I've never had before"

he has a lot of anxiety and "everything is very go, go, go, go, go" for him and there's no better feeling than finally finishing a project and not having anything going on for a few days, as opposed to enjoying the process - the feeling of "resting from my own mind, resting from my own anxieties"

it's important to acknowledge "perfect moments" when things are very nice (not even just big, important things). especially when it comes to depression and anxiety, you have to "hack your brain and in your mind be like - this is fun. you're having fun. this is nice" (kind of a mood and actually solid advice that we literally talked about in my therapy group today)

man the tunnels were just the world's WORST theme park huh. you're given an accessory for entry (amulets/paper wristband). haunted house vibes. has a guy taunting you over an intercom. falling through the floor in the senet game is like a really steep waterslide without the water. i'm really trying to make this post work
