i have two (2) creative writing pieces due sunday. i've started neither (none) of them

The whole werewolf concept is basically izuku gets attacked (sometime between first getting ofa and a little bit after the dorms were put in place) and doesn’t fully remember what happened but shortly afterwards, his senses are amplified and he’s faster/stronger. He chalks it up to training and ofa, but what he’s oblivious to is the fact that during the nights surrounding the full moon, he transforms into a bloodthirsty wolf-man

Meanwhile, Aizawa and some other underground heroes have been tracking down a “villain” with what they think is a wolf quirk. At some point, Aizawa finally subdues the villain and hands him over to the police. With a job well done he gets some much needed rest

The next morning, his students are panicking because they can’t find midoriya. While looking for his missing student, he gets a call from the precinct telling him something strange happened with the villain he arrested; the wolf turned back into a human and it’s a kid. A kid who is looking for Aizawa specifically. A kid with green hair and freckles.

Part of the reason why TSCIR is so funny is because it's primarily from Yoojin's POV. Meaning that we are privy to his thought process, so everything seems like it makes sense.

Like "Ah I'm about to kill these people so they won't be able to tell anyone what I say, perfect opportunity to get some stuff about regression off my chest!"

Or "Hmm I just got kidnapped, and two born s-classes are fighting below me eradicating the landscape while I'm riding a dragon... perfect time for some cheesecake!"

And "Oh they're kidnapping me? Perfect, lets use this chance to steal everything of value and then blow this joint sky high!"

Or maybe "They accuse my brother of violence? MY BROTHER? No. I'll show you VIOLENCE. If you're gonna do it do it RIGHT." And uses a dragon to smash their shit.

And while you're in his POV, it's like of course. Why wouldn't you. Take this perfectly logical course of action.

And it's only when you take a step back and consider that you realise that there is literally no one else in the world who would react this way.

3 AM epiphany:

Han Yoohyun: loves Yoojin so much that he hates and doesn't want to exist in the world without Yoojin in it.

Sung Hyunjae: loves Yoojin so much he learns to love the world that Yoojin loves and the life he shares with Yoojin.

This is especially more special if you add the fact that both hunters find the world boring and uninteresting. Especially shj, after universe-hopping so much, he finds living to be incredibly dull that he literally longs for death that he literally cannot achieve. But meeting hyj has turn shj from passively suicidal into loving life, loving the world he's in, all bcs he meets someone who cares for him like a human being.

i think some of the best literary + film analysis advice i was given was from my high school fiction into film teacher who told us she would grade us well on finding any meaning in any symbol or motif so long as we could back up that feeling or meaning from source material, no matter how personal, minor, or long-reaching that meaning was—if your argument was good & could be grounded, she would accept it, even if you were the only student who interrupted the book/film that way

I made a few new wax seal stamps out of clay (like the ones I did for my worldbuilding stuff forever ago), this time just of random symbols that I thought might look good done in the style of painting over the raised part of the wax or etc. :0c Some of them aren't carved deep enough to really show up that well, but overall they worked okay for being clay lol

So you know how sometimes you do something as a kid or a teenager and you think it's totally normal and then the memory pops into your head as an adult and it suddenly recontextualizes the whole thing? Anyway shout out to my super nice high school math teacher, who also had the misfortune of being A. the first teacher to give me a syllabus that (crucially) included point totals and how grades were calculated B. scored tests as like 75% of the grade and C. allowed us to take tests as a group All those factors combined into two incidents that, in retrospect, he was in no way expecting to deal with but teenage me thought were totally normal (behind a read more because it got long)

The first was when I stopped doing math homework not long into the school year and he stopped me after class to (very kindly, very gently) ask me if I was okay and if everything was okay at home, because I'd stopped doing my homework but he knew I knew the material. I said "I stopped doing the homework because I crossed the threshold on the point totals on the rubric where I no longer need to turn in any homework to get an A." He paused, kinda blinked at me, and said "That only works if you get 100% on every test" I kind of stared back at him in blank incomprehension, and was like "Yes????" "What happens if you don't get 100% on a test?" "Well. I do get 100% on every test, but if I ever miss a question, you offer extra credit questions on every test" He didn't know what to say to that lol The other time was when he announced future tests would be allowed to be worked on in groups of three or four, and I walked up to him after class and said "Any group I am in will be getting 100% on the tests. That is unfair to the other groups, and unfair to the people in my group, who will not get a chance to test their skills because I am not risking my grade on their math abilities. Can I take the tests solo?" Again, teenage me thought this was a perfectly normal, logical thing to do, but looking back as an adult like oh my gosh there is no way my poor math teacher was expecting to have to deal with that. He did let me take math tests solo I tried the "calculate points then stop doing the homework" thing in my English class the next year and it did not work because that teacher had an "extra credit doesn't count if you haven't done all your assignments" policy :(

Here's my newest hot take: it makes no sense for the Weasleys to be poor.

Like, I get why, narratively, the Weasleys are poor : poor=virtuous in jkr's mind and the Weasleys represent the perfect family so they need the be the bestest most virtuous of them all, especially since they are set up to be in direct contrast to the rich, morally bankrupt Malfoys.

That is all well and good, I understand the use of poverty as a narrative choice, but at the same time I also have a problem with how jkr chose to depict said poverty in her worldbuilding; even as a single income household with too many kids (as per D Malfoy), it makes no sense for the Weasleys to have no money.

Arthur, the sole earner in the family, is portrayed as a government insider: he heads his own department, seems essential to the working of the ministry and is overall well connected.

Arthur appears to be on a first name basis with a huge variety of ministry employees

Some of which are his fellow department heads

which definitely puts him on the same level as a Diggory or a Crouch, and none of these people are implied to be poor or even remotely struggling, so why is he?

Arthur is not only well connected but also far more powerful than one might expect from his job title alone:

He is somehow able to write and/or enact laws (something he shouldn't be able to do since he's neither an elected official nor part of a legislative body)

Arthur can easily get huge favors form fellow ministry personnel

We can also see how incongruously important Arthur Weasley is to the inner workings of the ministry by his responsibilities:

when things go tits up at the world cup, Arthur behaves very much like someone much higher up the chain of command.

All of this is over a newspaper article that didn't even quote him by name. What can the biting teacup guy do during a pr crisis, exactly?

I find myself to be very confused by the picture painted by these excerpts. jkr clearly wanted to have it both ways: she needed Arthur to be a ministry insider so that he'd be able to funnel all sorts of information to Harry (and into the story) but she also wanted the Weasleys to be underdogs or, as Harry calls them,

but the two things just don't mix because Arthur, as described in the books, does not read like an underdog, he reads like a vital part of the system.

tl;dr: Arthur is a Big Deal and his family shouldn't be poor, even if they do have too many children

TF2 MERCS IN THE ANIMAL CARE INDUSTRY BECAUSE WORK HAS BEEN MAKING ME SAD

scout: scout is new to the industry. a year at most. the fastest bather you could find in town. doesn’t want to start his own business, so works for a mom and pop shop. personality hire, but he’s getting better and better every day. has no interest in learning how to groom, though. he doesn’t have the right eye to make an animal look good.

soldier: soldier is more likely to be an owner of a very blank salon that he rents out booths for individual groomers. only takes enough from the money pool to maintain the building. doesn’t really care what goes on otherwise. his tenants LOVE him, because any issue is solved within 48 hours and they can do whatever they want as long as they take care of the place. handles sharpening because he knows the sharpener.

pyro: runs a luxury doggy daycare; and is VERY serious about the job. is up almost 24 hours a day during holiday seasons taking care of up to 30 dogs a day. has a handful of full time, live in employees, but they get so nervous when they’re not there they just stay at the daycare all day, watching. loves their employees. pays like, double the average wage as a start, because pyro expects nonstop work. consistent raises and bonuses, AND pizza parties.

engineer: a man of many hats. is actually a farrier. but if you got a sheep that needs shearing or something that needs to be tinkered with or a blade that needs sharpening or a dog that just needs a bath and nail trim he’s also your man. is the ONLY LICENSED AND CERTIFIED SHARPENER IN THREE FUCKING STATES. busy, busy man. soldier sends wealthy business and hearty workers his way in exchange for a monthly sharpening for his little shop. they’re friends, and soldier has always been a man of his word, so of course he agreed.

heavy: specializes in extra large dogs. 70 pound minimum to book with him. he runs a one on one fear free grooming experience called “Giant Spaw For Giant Dogs”. his website to book an appointment is full of pictures of him holding these massive dogs like they’re puppies. he’s smiling so wide in each picture. heavy loves dogs. has numerous certifications. is dog cpr certified. regularly attends dog shows. his salon is BEAUTIFUL. sleek, modern, lavender and navy theme. you enter and the reception area smells… so good. charges an arm and a leg though. but he sends you like… pictures of your dog on photoshopped backgrounds. it’s so worth it, his clientele is DEVOTED to him. one time he got sick and had to cancel his appointments and one of his clients broke down on him, praying for his health over the phone.

demo: demo is the best worker in the state, and he cycles through salons and clinics often based on where he’s needed. every business wants him so bad when they don’t have him. is getting paid VERY well to do what he does best. enjoys the process of bathing a dog without the stress of the haircut. fast, efficient, able to juggle multiple groomers as ONE bather. he’s a vital asset to any team he’s with, and he doesn’t even need the money. also likes working kennel. will help pyro during the holiday season for a break.

spy: i have two ideas. spy either has like, celebrity clientele, or spy exclusively grooms cats. requires his clients on a monthly schedule either way. his salon is also one on one quiet luxury pet care. brown and cream colored salon. never remembers to take pictures of his work. to book with him requires prepayment. website is sleek, and his portfolio is sorted by breed. doesn’t ask what anyone wants done on their pet, just does what he thinks is best. they always come out stellar. even his worst grooms are westminster worthy. has a wall of pet colognes and finishing sprays.

sniper: sniper is a mobile groomer and his business is called “Come Wash My Dog”. fast, efficient. doesn’t do anything fancy on any dog, and charges accordingly. does keep bows and bandanas to put on his favorite clients. likes terriers. occasionally gets caught up talking to his clients. it’s like his human interaction for the day. don’t come up to him making any requests, he is very frank that he is not one of them fancy groomers. he gives the dogs a trim if he can. that’s why his prices are so low.

medic: see, medic might make a really bad and unethical human doctor. but i think he’d make a phenomenal avian veterinarian. i think if medic became a veterinarian he would be a much different, much more ethically fulfilled man. known for his passion and dedication to the job. practically sleeps in his office so he is on call, at all times. probably wouldn’t have interest in tending to anything past the birds, but because he is known as one of three exotic vets in the state he’ll occasionally see reptiles and rodents. only has passing thoughts of joining an illegal pet trade, but he loves his job so much. he couldn’t forgive himself if he squandered it. keeps every feather that falls off his clients, and keeps them in organized files. when a client dies, he’ll give them the feathers and keep one for his clinic’s gallery wall. has a clinic cat because he thinks the irony’s funny. much more at peace with himself. at his worst he’s like house but with birds and without the drug addiction.

hotd's commentary on patriarchy is so much more interesting when you allow yourself to acknowledge the differences in privilege and power between the various women we see. aemma, alicent, laena, rhaenys, rhaenyra- they all have varying levels of privilege that come to them either indirectly or directly. rhaenyra is, ofc, undisputedly at the top. and this doesn't sideline or villainize rhaenyra in any way, because no amount of privilege will change the fact that she is not a man. like otto said: she could be jaehaerys reborn, could be as wise and powerful and mighty as any human being could be, and at the end of the day society would still see her as a woman. as the most powerful woman, sure, but as a woman. and i think that's just a much more salient point- that no amount of power within a system will allow you to breach the confines of that system. no matter how much influence these woman gain within the system of patriarchy, they're never able to be free of it.
