The best enemies-to-lovers complete webtoon EVER.

If anyone wants a REAL enemies to lovers, look no further than the webtoon Trapped. Like, we've all seen tame enemies to lovers. "They're academic rivals this" or "they mildly annoy eachother" that. NO. I'm talking REAL enemies to lovers. They're strangers and they hate eachother. They're active enemies and they hate eachother. They're prey and predator and they hate eachother. They're constantly fighting and they hate eachother. They're EXTREMELY reluctant allies and they hate eachother. They know eachother better than anyone else in the world, and they hate eachother. They're in love and they STILL hate eachother.

They get shown an illusion of the other and he's immediately like "Yeah there's not enough death threats and the hatred is WEAK, WHERE IS SHE?" and she's like "He's being too nice to me it can't possibly be him" and then the real one comes and licks her tears as she cries and she's like "oh okay this is him, no one else could match this level of degenerate"

I'm so serious that this is gonna be the BEST and most realistic enemies to lovers you've ever read. Also it's complete. so. You're welcome.

It’s so odd that between the two of them, Satoru is the kinder one.

Ask anyone who knows them, and they’ll tell you that Geto Suguru is a well-mannered, considerate, conscientious gentleman, and Gojo Satoru is a cruel, troublemaking asshole.

But Suguru’s kindness is performative, duty bound, and born of his desire to be perceived as kind. He is kind because he feels that’s what he should be, how he should act. He wants people to see him as kind.

Satoru’s kindness is done with no ulterior motive. He doesn’t care how he’s perceived, nor about duty. He’s kind because he wants to be.

It’s not that satoru lacks empathy, not really. I mean, he does, but it’s more a byproduct than the root cause.

The root cause is this. Satoru has: 1. too much strength, and 2. too little socialisation.

Let me explain.

1. He’s too strong.

Satoru is consistently likened to God, and it’s not unfounded. With his sensory abilities, Six Eyes, financial wealth, etc etc. He can probably feel every cursed spirit within 100s of miles. He could save countless lives. He is ALREADY saving countless lives. He sleeps only 3 hours a day. But he could do more. It would just never be enough, so he’s learned to close himself off. There’s already enough people holding him responsible for the lives of every single person in Japan, he doesn’t need to be another one.

2. And he’s not socialised. He was never treated as a human, or as a child. Basic empathy. He was treated as a weapon, as a host for the six eyes technique, as the strongest sorcerer, as a god. Empathy wasn’t really part of it. He never learned it properly, so he can’t aim it at others. He’s gotten better at it as an adult, but clearly, not enough.

Satoru isn’t inherently uncaring, it was a learned behaviour borne out of self preservation.

And the people he saves hate him for it.

Truly, I have had enough of female characters that become soft and palatable with trauma. Yes, yes, “everyone reacts to trauma differently, there’s no cookie cutter way to be traumatized”…THATS MY POINT. We have SO MANY female characters that become soft, and broken, and vulnerable. Give us the characters that fight BACK. That become rough, and cruel, and stronger, and invulnerable.

Equally, I have had enough of male characters where their main character trait is just how much they love the female mc. ENOUGH ONE DIMENSIONAL MEN. Where their character is literally just “he’s powerful and he would do anything for the female lead cos she’s pretty” like NO. NO. give me the cute male leads. Give me the male leads that are struggling. give me the male leads that take ages to fall in love with the female lead, and dont give a shit that she’s pretty. I’m so DONE with this trope.

There is nothing I love more than dandadan’s relentless commitment to having mono be an unapologetic genius.

Like usually, when a female character overshadows a man, it’s with grace, with humility, she’s bashful… NOT MOMO.

Momo is smart and OWNS IT. Unapologetically taking up space.

Ships where one of them is dark, sexy, handsome, etc, and the other one is literally blindingly beautiful, sunshine lighting up the room.

And they both think the other is the hottest person in existence, and can’t fathom how the other thinks they could possibly be more attractive than them.

I eat that shit up with a spoon.

Part of the reason why TSCIR is so funny is because it's primarily from Yoojin's POV. Meaning that we are privy to his thought process, so everything seems like it makes sense.

Like "Ah I'm about to kill these people so they won't be able to tell anyone what I say, perfect opportunity to get some stuff about regression off my chest!"

Or "Hmm I just got kidnapped, and two born s-classes are fighting below me eradicating the landscape while I'm riding a dragon... perfect time for some cheesecake!"

And "Oh they're kidnapping me? Perfect, lets use this chance to steal everything of value and then blow this joint sky high!"

Or maybe "They accuse my brother of violence? MY BROTHER? No. I'll show you VIOLENCE. If you're gonna do it do it RIGHT." And uses a dragon to smash their shit.

And while you're in his POV, it's like of course. Why wouldn't you. Take this perfectly logical course of action.

And it's only when you take a step back and consider that you realise that there is literally no one else in the world who would react this way.

There’s ships, where when they match each others energy, everyone’s like awwww. How adorable. How tooth-rottingly romantic.

And THEN there’s ships, where when they match each others freak, everyone starts running.

Hilarious that in the literal first chapters of TSCIR, Yoohyun tries to lock up Yoojin (keyword being tries) and we all, collectively were like “unbelievable! How overprotective! How irrational! Violence!! He’s locking up his brother!! How inhumane”

And now it’s somehow become “SOMEONE SIT ON HIM. LOCK HIM UP! YOOJIN WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE BOMBS PUT THEM DOWN! STOP BLOWING STUFF UP AND PISSING OFF GODS YOOJINNN”

While Sung Hyunjae is just in the back handing him bombs.

Characters where they’re actually really smart and put together until you put them with each other will never not be funny to me.

Truly wild to me how Yoohyun sees other people. Like, it's stated a few times that Yoohyun doesn't care about anyone other than Yoojin. And we sort of get it from reading his occasional POV.

But I didn't really get it until they're talking about Yoojin dating, and Yoohyun goes "I'll only accept it if it's Peace." You know. THE HORNED FLAME LION. “It’s okay if my brother gets romantically involved with a lion.”

That's when I got it. To Han Yoohyun, other people are as alien to him as a monster. In fact, he identifies more with the monster, than other humans. To him, even though they speak the same language, and look the same, and were raised the same, they might as well be monsters. Or he's the monster.

But it makes his obsession with Yoojin so much more extreme. And puts so much else into context. We know he's more flame than person, but truly that was the moment it showed the most.

Yoojin at the start being like “can’t let hyunjae find out I could possibly have SS-class strength, don’t want him to see me as a threat, he only tolerates me cos I’m weak, once he realises I could whoop his ass he won’t like me anymore”

And then it happens and Sung Hyunjae is ENTRANCED. Like reading that chapter, where Yoojin is fighting both him and song taewon, I fully believe that’s when Sung Hyunjae fell irreversibly in love.

kim dokja and bihyungs dynamic before they used to each other is so funny. me and the guy i keep trapped in my torture dungeon for entertainment (he keeps torturing himself and the others in new and creative ways i hadn't thought about before. hes actually kind of better at this than i am. im kinda scared)
