Yoojin at the start being like “can’t let hyunjae find out I could possibly have SS-class strength, don’t want him to see me as a threat, he only tolerates me cos I’m weak, once he realises I could whoop his ass he won’t like me anymore”
And then it happens and Sung Hyunjae is ENTRANCED. Like reading that chapter, where Yoojin is fighting both him and song taewon, I fully believe that’s when Sung Hyunjae fell irreversibly in love.

Biggest aura moment to date?
Samin, meeting a literal god in the mental realm, which is supposed to represent how you see yourself.
Queen appears sitting on her THRONE, looking down at the god beneath her.
Like actual kings have pictured themselves as children, all kinds of sages/wise men always saw themselves as inferior to a god, cos, you know, ITS A GOD.
And then there’s Samin Lee:

Like?? Queen shit for real. Samin dominates the criminal underworld, her own mind, and a literal god.

The tension of chapter 42
I cannot get over the subtle sexual tension in this scene. Chapter 42. Like nothing is explicitly said. No mention of anything sexual, no sexual actions, nothing but the fight. BUT THE EXPRESSIONS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT KILLING?? ARE YOU??

The thing about Jinjae that took me way too long to realize that. Its not about a cold, bored guy finding someone interesting and then the curiosity slowly turning into genuine feelings or whatever. He's always cared for Yoojin since the beginning– as an item, as a business partner, as a friend, as a lover.
Not all of those dynamics had been the healthiest, but Yoojin has been loved, all the same. The development over the course of the novel was not Hyunjae learning to love someone, it was him discovering the way that Yoojin wanted to be loved– as an equal.

Fuck Canon All Might. Not in the sexy way.
For the following reasons:
General:
Waited too long to find a successor
Destabilised society by making himself the pillar it stands on
Chronological (just season 1)
No medical care post sludge villain
Showed a 14 year old kid who idolized him the horrific injury (and just expected him to keep a national state level secret)
Can't be a hero (with training and good support items yes tf he can, check Eraserhead)
Left him on the ROOF like... this is a 15 year old kid who's dreams have just been crushed... on a roof...
Only gave him the quirk because he saw reckless, self-destructive, no planning tendencies and was like "ah! a hero!"
Made him clean the beach (no martial arts training, no other training to be a hero, no vaccinations, no protective gear- like tetanus??)
Gave him the quirk THE DAY OF THE ENTRANCE EXAM (you cannot tell me he couldn't have given it to him a week earlier. 3 days. Literally any amount of time to acclimate, and more advice than just "clench your butt cheeks and yell smash".)
Knew that his quirk would destroy him, and didn't warn him, give him precautions, etc beyond "build an arbitrary amount of muscle"
Didn't get him quirk counselling (can't tell me he couldn't have arranged smth in private, or given him more advice on the quirk)
Put the burden of being All for One's next target and being the next Symbol of Peace, the sole pillar supporting an entire society ON A 15 YEAR OLD'S SHOULDERS.
Didn't consult the mother. Like dude, are we really saying that a 15 year old could make informed decisions here? Does the word of a minor on a life altering decision really count as consent?
Made Izuku keep the secret all alone with no one to confide in despite HIM having told MULTIPLE PEOPLE (nedzu, recovery girl, tsukauchi, etc)
THE MIDO VS BAKU FIGHTS?!!! Like how could any teacher look at that and be like hmm yes rivals, equals in standing...

THIS. Exactly this. Han Yoojin is a beautiful portrayal of self loathing.
The first time he met his clone, he tried to stab him. No pity for someone going through insanely hard circumstances that he had first hand experience in, no empathy, he hated him on SIGHT.
The second time? HIS CLONE TRIES TO KILL ITSELF AS SOON AS ITS BORN. This is an identical clone of him, and as soon as it realises, it tries to commit suicide. When it fails, Yoojin strangles it. Mercilessly, even as it begs to be saved, he chokes himself to death.
OP makes such good examples, too. Yoojin gets told he doesn't have long to live, and it doesn't faze him. His only thought is "I should live longer for Yoohyun". To him, his life only has value in relation to what he can do for his brother.
He doesn't eat unless forced, has no problems putting his body, life, safety, ANYTHING on the line, because to him, that's the only way he can be allowed to live. He loves his kids so purely, unconditionally, and yet he feels as though he has to be useful to earn the right to live. To the extent where he'd rather be an object than person if it would make him more useful. When he's on his own, he stops caring about his wellbeing. Self care is a performative action for him, rather than a genuine impulse.
He's desperate, and feral, and falling apart. He's surrounded by people who love him, and loathes himself.
SPOILERS FOR SCTIR FOR +CH 200
CW: (possibly) Eating disorder ED, depression
Something that keeps me awake at night: at the beggining of the story, Yoohyun's death isn't so painful for the viewers, because we only see what is on the surface of the Han brothers' life. It's through memories and flashbacks that we get to learn 3 facts: Yoojin dedicated his entire life to Yoohyun, they parted ways and in the end they reunited, only for one of them die. That's the introduction of SCTIR for us. Moreover, Yoojin is desesperate to leave the past behind, so he doesn't linger on his traumatic memories for too long, hence why the pain of reading SCTIR isn't instant.
It is gradual.
Yoojin and we learn that the past was never erased. It still happened, and exists in the form of Yoohyun's body out in the cold. Gradually, it becomes more apparent how Yoojin is still so affected by his previous life, despite his fear resistance skill. It starts with small things like him avoiding eating unless someone tells him to do so, always occupying himself with tasks that could be handled by someone else, negative thoughts about himself for every single action he takes and so on. I love, with all my heart, the manhwa, but the novel makes it so much more apparent how Yoojin loathes himself, to the point he keeps wishing he wasn't a human being, rather an item for his brother to use. It's so messed up to want to abandon all your humanity, feelings and concept of self just so you can be of help.
SCTIR is fun to read, but even more so with the unreliable narrator that is Yoojin. He sees what he does as nothing impressive, considering the people he is surrounded with, despite running the kisengsu facility, negotiating with the hair loss company to develop a new product, managing Seok Hayan's research team, mantaining diplomatic ties with Japan, training and helping other hunters and, most importantly, caring for all the S classes. He worries for their well-being because it's only natural for him to do so, as the Perfect Caregiver.
And, in the middle of it all, the only thing Yoojin spares for himself is hate. He doesn't want to live long for himself, but rather for Yoohyun, even though Yoojin already has been through the pain of loss. When Yoojin died in chapter 241, the first thing that he thought was Yoohyun. He didn't even think about how much it hurted dying (with a freaking shot on the head)! He just wanted to reunite and soothe Yoohyun that he was okay.
Speaking of which, in Sigma's arc, as Yoojin was alone, he really stopped caring for his well-being, so Sung Hyunjae took that role and did everything he could to help Yoojin. But, for him to even have to create a quest just so Yoojin could eat is what sparked my lizard brain to write this post.
My point is, there isn't an arc dedicated for recovery (at least until the chapter I have read that is like, ~300) and that is beautiful, because Yoojin is still processing what he went through, and we get to see that. Yoojin has such an interesting character arc as he begins wanting to forget the past, as it is too painful, to start running after it. He can't let go of it, because letting it go means letting his little brother go too. Which is why he says he will never be okay again in chapter 278.

THE AQUARIUM PROMISEEEEE
One of the most subtle ways that SHJ and HYJ show they matter to each other is that their words are never forgotten. Call them petty bitches if you will (which they totally are), but HYJ asked SHJ to make one promise to him once, and SHJ brings it up for the next 700 chapters. One offended comment of “I’ll give you about a day to hide” is brought back up like 500 chapters later as they’re in the middle of an intense fight.
They remember every little petty snark because everything the other person says is important to them.
TSCIR is like an essay on how to love someone without saying “I love you”. “I remember the promise”. “I’ll keep my word.” “The things you say are important to me. Even the most inane, trivial ones.”

Himmel loves Frieren so much.
I bet every time they fight together, Himmel is on the verge of losing his fucking mind. He’s so grateful that he’s a frontline fighter and Frieren is support, because it means he can take attacks for her and it’s not suspicious. He hates himself because he knows that if it came down to it, not only would he die for Frieren, but he’d sacrifice Heiter and Eisen as well (ofc he'd try to save everyone, but it doesn't always work that way). He loves her so much. Sometimes, when she’s dominating over the demons and slaughtering them, he gets distracted and almost dies. But more than anything, he would hate himself if he hurt her, or made her uncomfortable. So he will swallow and oppress the feelings relentlessly. It’s easier once he realises that she’s so oblivious she’ll never realise unless he actually tells her. After that, he relaxes a bit more (and allows himself to do stuff like buying her that ring). Heiter and Eisen know, naturally, and pity him. Frieren is an elf. She is an entirely different species. She likely doesn’t see any of them as more than large children.
She was so beautiful it blinded him, and yet he couldn’t tear his eyes away. Even her flaws only made her more loveable. There was not a single thing about her that he didn’t find utterly enchanting. Everything was for her. From leaving the statues so that even some meagre remnant of his form could stay by her side for as long as possible. To taking all matter of inane requests and detours just to extend their trip as much as possible. It felt selfish. While he did truly want to help people, at heart, he selfishly relished the extra time he was allowed to stay by her side. Frieren leaving him was his worst nightmare, and yet he knew he’d let her go without comment if that was what she wished.

Give me a pairing as good as KageHina.
Like. Hinata never knew what it was like to have a setter, or even a team. He was always alone. Kageyama had absolute talent, and a team, but was alone in a different way. Both of them are so good together. They can take each other’s worst, Hinata can take Kageyama’s lashing out, Kageyama matches Hinata’s insane desire to win and get stronger, its just so fucking good. They hold back for everyone else. Kageyama can’t be as strict on other spikers as he is Hinata, and Hinata can’t be as demanding for other setters. But they don’t hold back with each other. Because they’re so strict, they force each other to grow faster than anyone. Kageyama biggest fear was no one hitting his tosses, and Hinata’s biggest fear was no one throwing him tosses. When Hinata pulls off an amazing move, he always looks to Kageyama for recognition first, and when Kageyama got accepted to youth, he gloated first to Hinata. They’re the most important people to each other. Its so beautiful. They fit together so perfectly, the have so much faith in eachother. It’s not even trust at this point, it’s faith. Hinata saying “I can get past any blocker because I have his tosses” and Kageyama knowing Hinata can hit even his most demanding tosses.
They match each other so well, and yet are such opposites on the outside.

I want people to consider, just for a moment, what SpyxFamily would be like if it wasn’t a child friendly anime. Like, think about it.
Anya was a product of human experimentation at 5 years old. Then a victim of, at the very least neglect, and likely abuse. Didn’t even know how to spell her own name. Lives in constant fear of being outed as an esper.
Now has to live with two people she KNOWS could kill her instantly. If they get mad, she’s dead. Even worse, if she’s useless to operation strix, she’ll get abandoned again.
Like these are all canon fears mentioned in the manga, but toned down because it’s child friendly.
But what if it wasn’t? The amount of trauma this child would have…

I need people to understand that there is nothing so amazing as Sung Hyunjae and Han Yoojin’s PARTNERSHIP.
Sung hyunjae hasn’t seen anyone as his equal in millennia. HE HASNT HAD A SINGLE FRIEND IN HIS LIFE. Transcendent, S class, F class, it’s all the same to him. He doesn’t even see people as people, as evidenced by him literally manipulating the courses of their lives from the shadows cos he just believes he knows better.
But this guy. THIS GOD. Acknowledged someone who was literally in the lowest possible position. Highschool dropout, F class hunter (arguably worse than unawakened, cos despite having unawakened stats, they have to fight in dungeons and risk their lives), literally hated by everyone in the country.
Their relationship is so special to me. SHJ doesn’t care about anyone’s opinion, BUT HE CARES ABOUT HYJ’s. The only person in the world to worry about SHJ and treat him like a human is HYJ. Like from the outside it seems like the most unbalanced relationship ever. But neither of them have ever compromised in their lives. SHJ could have given up on himself lifetimes ago, but he didn’t. HYJ could have given up on himself countless times, before and after the regression, but he didn’t. HYJ is the only person SHJ would ever put himself on a leash for.
It’s just so beautiful

why can't i save posts
Han Yoojin as a person is incredibly good at coping with everything that has happened and is happening to him, which you can tell by the fact the he literally goes blind from stress the moment his L-rank fear resistance is turned down.
