Newbie Newsies

A guide for new Newsies fans

Chapter two (part 3): Characters- OC’s

OC’s are one big ass thing in this fandom.

Basically any OC ever from anyone is adopted into fannon.

Since there’s SO many background newsies, an OC never really hurts tbh… there were so many child workers, not even just newsies, and all of them were individual beings (shocker, i know)

Like sometimes it’s literally just names and sometimes it’s meant to be just names but then happens to expand into it’s own character and sometimes it’s meant to be it’s own character from the beginning.

Then theres the unnamed newsies. Those are the newsies that were in the movie/shows but never really,,,, got named (a l o t of backround newsies did have a full lore despite saying like one sentence or nothing at all. But despite the huge amount, it doesn’t even cone close to the amount of actual ones that were there). The most popular/famous one would obviously be Tumbler. Tumbler is the little newsie from 92’sies who sits on the statue and slides from the back. He’s the one from the end credits AND on the official poster. Despite this he never had a canon name. Crazy tbh. Second most famous (but not even close to Tumbler) is Snaps, who,,, well…. He snaps…(i thought his name was canon for an embarrassingly long time…)But i wanna introduce you to @one-highfalutin-sonuva-gun . They name all the unnamed background Newsies, describe them and sometimes even gives them a little lore.

Anyway let me show you some of the most famous OC’s tgat are ACTUAL OC’s, as in ORIGINAL characters….

I don’t think anyone disagrees when i say that Crystal, by @crystallizedtwilight, is the most popular and famous OC you will find. Crystal is a Bowery Beauties who gets along with Buttons very well. She’s always wearing pink beautiful clothes.

I would argue that Atticus, by @atticusredwood, is the second most famous one. This may be controversial because it’s not even close to having the fame that Crystal does but if you can name me an OC between those two you are welcome to tell me lol. Atticus is a leader newsie of Queens (i think??) and very fucking intimidating. I’m scared of them despite knowing the fucker doesn’t exist.

Now i just recently found out that Stitches isn’t a real canon newsie. There’s not one particular person who made her up but there IS an account that roleplays an OC called Stitches. @ollitheheadphoneskid23 (tell me if this is the wrong one cause im nkt sure rn tbh)

Then, there’s recently been a WAVE of OC-roleplay accounts, caused by a particular post by @lemonlord14 (i would link the post but i can’t fucking find it i’m so sorry)

I couldn’t name them all if i tried but here’s a bunch of them

Most creators of these OC’s are very happy to share their OC’s and i think most ppl wouldn’t even be mad if you used them without credits (give credits though. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give credits. Give credits. Be decent. Give credits.)

I also wanna use this opportunity to tell ya’ll about Mackj/Flames and Allie/Tic, two of my OC’s based on myself and @ykthefancyclamwiththepearlinside

For a guy who almost got eaten, he looked way too pleased.

"That's worthy of, well, an award, you know!" He tapped his split lip thoughtfully, lying on the ground as if nothing had happened. "Ah, Zero Year may be over, but I think it's only fair for me to name a month after you. What do you say?"

His impractical coat was all messed up, his hat laying a little to the side, just as dirty and caked with snow.

"It's january, isn't it? It's Amberary now! Maybe not for all of Gotham, but for me for sure."

He grinned.

What the hell is he saying? Why bring up those old words? Ridiculous. Amber failed to hold back surprise in her eyes, but she almost managed to stop herself from smiling in time. Almost. He noticed.

"... Get up."

Long story short: Amber saved Ed from predators, and he decided to be extra with his flirting.

I remembered these words from "Zero Year" and an idea came to me...

This scene will definitely be in a fanfic, for which I have an underdeveloped idea, and which I will definitely not write. %)

In any case, this is roughly how I imagine ZY!Eddie flirting, in addition to all the other headcanons. My vision of him is too different from ​​how most of the fandom sees him . xD

I'm trying to jump above my head again, not having the skill in background, clothes, drapery, and full body, especially since I almost never drew two interacting characters. My most ambitious work so far. But I'm happy!
