Looking Glasses FAQ

Where are Kris and Noelle? They're in their first semester of college! In this story they both fill the role that Asriel does in the game. Our protagonists are waiting for them to return to hometown on their college break, which means they are theoretically meant to appear at the end of the story. However, both of them have roles to play in the story sooner rather than later. That said, this comic isn't about Kris or Noelle. I am most interested in the perspectives of Ralsei, Lancer, Susie, and Dess, so the story is going to center them as characters.

Why is Lancer older? He's 16 in this comic. He's a few years younger than the rest of the fun gang, but I've always felt like he was more of a weird, immature/sheltered teen than a literal baby.

Is there strong shipping in the comic? Looking Glasses is a story about how relationships change and grow when some of your friends move away for college and leave you behind. So relationships, both platonic and romantic, are integral to the plot, but if you're looking for cute Suselle or Kralsei moments I would look elsewhere.

How far into the story are we/how many chapters are planned? Looking Glasses is currently on Part 2 out of 7. My current projection is that the finished comic will have ~300 pages.

What do you use to draw the comic? I do all of my drawing in Clip Studio Paint. I occasionally build 3D models for backgrounds in Houdini.

When does Looking Glasses update? Currently I update the comic every 10 days, on alternating Mondays and Thursdays. Like this:

If that's confusing, don't worry, I usually put the date I'll release the next page on each update. I wish I could update on a more regular schedule but this comic is pretty intensive to make and I have a bad repetitive stress injury from drawing, so this is about as fast as I can go.

"Woah" Jamie let out a soft breath, his eyes wide as he stared at Roy once they had broken apart. With his back against the wall of the boot room and Roy standing in front of him, there was nowhere for Jamie to run, and for the first time in his life, Jamie was excited to be in such a tight spot. Fantasies of being in such close proximity with Roy had plagued his mind since long before Jamie had ever met him in person; what had just unfolded between them was the stuff of his wildest dreams “That was…” 

“Fucking stupid of me” Roy finished when Jamie trailed off. It was obvious to Roy that Jamie was clearly taken aback by how idiotic he had been. A conversation about what Jamie should bring for Phoebe’s birthday party at his sister’s place that weekend should not have ended with Roy taking Jamies face in his hands and kissing him. Roy’s eyes shifted to the door, and he contemplated leaving without another word but knew that wouldn’t be fair to Jamie; he deserved an apology “I’m sorry, it’s just-”

“Mate, why are you apologising?” Jamie asked, reaching forward and wrapping his hand around Roy’s wrist in the hopes he would be able to prevent him from leaving. The last thing Jamie wanted was to rush through the halls and call after Roy; he was too exhausted from training to make a scene.

“Can you not call me mate when my tongue was in your mouth two fucking seconds ago?” 

“Thought mate would be better than granddad, sorry” Jamie grinned, hoping he was approaching this in the right way. Some people would require a more gentle approach after such a thing but not Roy; if Jamie were to get the chance to kiss him again, then he’d have to show Roy that it hadn’t changed anything between them. They were still just Jamie and Roy. Jamie smiled wider when he heard Roy call him a prick under his breath; he was grateful for the normalcy “So, how long have you been wanting to kiss me?” 

“Fuck off” Roy rolled his eyes, taking a hesitant step forward when Jamie pulled at his wrist. He was starting to suspect he’d not been reading Jamie wrong over the past few weeks; the innuendos, the touching, the drunken flirting, it had all been leading to this. Both of them knew whatever existed between them was complicated and more than likely going to get a bit messy but standing in the boot room, neither of them cared. It felt as though they were the only two people in the world “I don’t know when it started; should’ve done it years ago when I wanted you to shut up” 

“It definitely would’ve worked” Jamie admitted, a slight blush colouring his cheeks at the memory of his massive crush on Roy as a teenager. A massive crush that had never entirely faded - something Jamie had to bite his cheek to avoid admitting at that moment. He knew it would be best if they took things slowly; he didn’t want to come on too strong and end up alone once again “You’re a better kisser than I imagined” 

“How long have you been imagining kissing me?” Roy asked, a teasing smirk playing on his lips. Something about the idea of Jamie fantasising about kissing him caused his heart to beat just a little faster; he would happily act out any of the fantasies Jamie had ever had about him at that moment. Maybe he’d even share some of the dreams he had about them as well. Jamie wasn’t known to be a prude; he’d probably enjoy hearing Roy’s list of various places he’d thought about fucking him around the training ground. 

“Long enough that I don’t want to waste any more time talking” Jamie replied, letting go of Roy’s wrist and taking Roy’s face in his hands instead before he leaned in. He had been taken aback by their first kiss and revelled in its roughness and neediness, but he wanted to enjoy a soft kiss with Roy before they spoke about whatever was happening between them more. He wanted their second kiss to be the kind of kiss written about in the romance novels he used to steal from his mum’s bedside table or the kind of kiss shown in the rom-coms Ted forced the team to watch.

Jamie wanted their second kiss to be the kind of kiss he’d been dreaming about since long before he’d met Roy.

The fabled, infamous buckled collar shirt… Opens. He’s usually always wearing his cowl and vest so you can’t usually tell. He does love wearing shirts with open/low collars, which you can esp tell by the Daydream Hour outfits Kui designed for him, so makes sense. And yet… The buckle collar…

If u don’t think this is the same shirt btw he actually does up his collar when meeting the canaries. Just 1 scene difference before after, below. He likes to open up his collars when the setting is more casual but business or action happens and it’s back to being all proper and laced up

Btw idk if it’s a mistake but that screentone on Chilchuck’s chest in the second picture of the post… Is Kui telling us he has body hair. Idk is he dirty does he need a shower?? Kui doesn’t draw Senshi with much body hair in the manga for practicality reasons but she did draw in a Daydream Hour once how much she actually thinks he has, so it wouldn’t be crazy if this was the case for Chil too, and then in a final chapter in a close shot panel where she even details the seams of the shirt she can go all out more. Kui talks about peach fuzz and whatnot for elves so maybe they’re just finer or paler in his case. Please please please— Sigh ok it’s a screentone mistake

Did you know that peafowl are born with a full set of flight feathers? It only takes them 3-4 days to remove the sheaths and put a little length on them, and then they are capable of flight!

It's very obnoxious!

Going to a restaurant with the cast of Obey Me! and the waiter asks, "is anyone in your party under 500? Beings who are five centuries and under eat for free."

The waiter glances at Luke as they say this but everyone immediately turns to you.

Mammon cracks up when the waiter brings over a high chair and you have to turn them down. Leviathan encourages you to at least take the booster seat so you can feel taller. Thirteen wheezes when they bring out the crayons and coloring mat, which you insist on sharing. You tell Diavolo not to get any funny ideas when the waiter bends down to speak with you at eye level. It's just standard protocol for this diner.

Mephistopheles doesn't understand the big deal. You're not even a century old yet, isn't this normal? Solomon, however, is trying not let his mini midlife crisis show. To Barbatos' delight, he's not getting the same treatment as you (despite also being human) and fears he might be starting to look his age.

Lucifer is visibly enjoying himself way too much and hasn't stopped sneering since you were handed a children's menu, which Beelzebub is excitedly cross-referencing with the adult menu that everyone else got. Raphael likes the little flag they stuck in your food. Luke is acting so smug and haughty that Simeon has to remind him to be humble.

Satan makes the unnecessary offer to cut your food into smaller bites because they only gave you a small plastic spork, while Asmodeus is busy snapping pictures of the chef's ketchup smiley face atop your dish. Belphegor warns you not to hurt yourself and asks if he should blow on your food, causing you to threaten him with the spork.

I go by Cay, and I’m a narrative artist with a BFA in Game, Animation and Simulation Design, with an aspiration to be a game artist. I’m a coffee addict with an insatiable hunger for sushi. CayCantEven or CayCantDraw?

CayCantEven is just a social handle that rolls off the tongue, and it's stuck so long I feel weird not using it lol. CayCantDraw is my freelance handle for all business exchanges. It's a fun play on words with an ironic twist to my skills as an artist.

What do you use for drawing?

I use ClipStudio Paint EX, and the tablet I use is a Huion Kamvas 20. I also have an iPad with Procreate for working on the go. I always have a sketchbook with me though despite being primarily a digital artist. 

Do you take art/writing requests?

No, I don’t take requests. There are rare occasions where I may offer a poll for something an audience may want to see as a warmup or for fun, but primarily I do not accept requests via ask box or DMS. I appreciate the support via Kofi if you’d like to see something specific!

Do you take roleplay requests?

I don’t offer or take roleplay requests. I will only offer that, if ever, to close mutuals or friends who share that interest.

Do you take commissions?

Yep! I will post a couple days ahead of them opening to inform anyone interested. I use Google Forms to take commission requests and availability varies! If you have any other questions, I am open to questions via my inbox (will respond privately.) Check out my pinned for commission details!

Can I make fanart/fanfiction for you or for myself?

Can I interact with your characters?

Sure! Though please understand I'm really, really slow to responding to asks, and I get overwhelmed very easily. I know a lot of people like my characters--cough Balsam cough--and want to to ask them questions or leave affections. As long as you respect me and my characters, it's welcomed!

This is kind of a weird reason for hope, honestly, but it genuinely changed how I think about catastrophe.

Historical fact that you probably do not know:

At least 30-50% of the population of Pompeii survived.

Maybe even the majority of the people of Pompeii survived.

(The numbers 30-50% there are according Professor J. Theodore Peña, a professor of ancient Roman archeology who studies Pompeii, whom I took a class on Pompeii with in 2018. The numbers of "maybe even the majority" are from articles linked below.)

Yes, that Pompeii, the one where the entire city was swallowed by a volcanic eruption.

And no, I'm not kidding. x, x, x, x, x, x

So how this is possible, that anyone could survive, when the entire city was literally buried in volcanic ash? And the answer is that the eruption actually took place over the course of almost 24 hours, as the earthquakes and clouds of smoke emitting from Pompeii gradually got worse and worse, followed by the ejection of ash and giant stones that gradually escalated, until the fifth pyroclastic flow (aka giant wave of searing hot ash) hit the city.

So, people had a bit less than 24 hours to flee the city. And many of them did, whether by boat or cart or horse or foot. And many of them made it.

Pompeii is the iconic, ultimate example we have, culturally, for a natural disaster that causes complete annihilation.

But it never caused complete annihilation at all. Not of the people who lived there.

I think climate change, ultimately, is going to be like Pompeii. Yes, there will be natural disasters. Yes, it will keep getting worse for a while.

Yes, people will die, and yes, we do need to act fast, and we need to do all that we can to save every single living being that we can.

But unlike the people of Pompeii, we have the ability to fix most of the effects of climate change. We have the ability to cool the planet down from whatever temperature it ultimately hits. (Masterpost on this here.)

Natural disasters fucking suck. But as the true story of Pompeii exemplifies, they are often a lot more survivable than we think. And we have benefits and resources and technology and knowledge above all communication that the people of Pompeii never did - in fact, we're getting so good at building for and detecting and warning for natural disasters that the number of people dying from natural disasters has been plummeting, even as natural disasters are getting worse and worse (x).

We are going to survive climate change (x). We are going to fix as much of it as we can (x). And we are going to rebuild afterward.

Because as the many survivors of Pompeii show, that's what humans do.

Jan/Richard- Locked

“Are you sure it’s locked?” Jan asked, his final word melting into a moan as Richard fumbled with the zipper of his jeans. The sensible side of Jan’s brain knew this was a bad idea, that they should just go to one of their houses rather than hooking up in the bathroom of Ola’s, but that part was silenced by his horniness. It was impossible to be sensible where Richard was concerned. 

“Yes” Richard answered before he began kissing Jan’s neck again. He was careful not to leave any marks on visible skin and was tempted to ask Jan to remove his shirt; Richard wasn’t sure why but seeing Jan speak with some of their teammates that night had been torturous. His recklessness in dragging Jan into the bathroom was spurred on by his ugly desire to be possessive, something Jan didn’t seem to be turned off by. It was rare that Richard seized the opportunity to take charge, but when he did, Jan was always willing to submit “What are you so worried about, scared someone’s gonna find out how you’re putty in my hands?” 

Jan’s response was cut off by a gasp escaping his lips after Richard slipped his hand under the waistband of his boxers. Richard had been teasing him all night, dirty texts and stolen looks had plagued Jan all night, and he was ready to burst even before Richard had touched him. They had yet to define whatever it was that existed between them, instead choosing to spend their time together having sex instead of talking, but Jan was hopeful it was something that would continue for a long time. He had never been with someone who had made him feel so alive “Can you please hurry up? I need more than this” 

“So desperate” Richard chided, a teasing smirk playing on his lips. He loved knowing he was the only one who could unravel Jan in such a way; Richard had never found someone he loved to toy with as much. The last few months had been filled with rough kisses, sloppy blowjobs and enough sex to tire both of them out, but Richard knew they were just getting started. There was so much more they had to explore together, both in and out of the bedroom “You’ll have to be quiet, can’t have that lot outside hearing how you beg me to touch you” 

“I’ll be quiet” Jan nodded, his tone pleading as he hooked his fingers around his boxers and lowered them. They were playing a dangerous game, growing more daring with each teasing smile or innuendo shared in public, but this was a new level. They had not even kissed in the same vicinity as the team before, terrified of lurking kitmen in the boot room and CCTV footage being discovered, but the alcohol Sam had been serving and the lust pumping through their bodies had created a sense of carelessness and desire. Even making it to Jan’s car parked in a nearby alleyway would have been too long of a journey “I promise I’ll be quiet. Please just blow me already” 

“You’re so pretty when you beg, mon amour” Richard practically purred as he lowered himself to his knees, not as repulsed by the idea of kneeling on the bathroom floor as he would have been if he was sober. Reminding Jan that he was his was all that mattered to him in that moment, Richard wanted him to forget that anyone else existed “So very pretty...”
