Early MCYTblr Interviews: Anonymous

our interviewee today is the anonymous author of the "SBI Crit Post". he's asked to both remain anonymous and not to be sought out; he's been incredibly helpful and polite through this entire interview process, and i would ask you all to leave any residual feelings you may have from that time at the door. If you think you remember who posted it, please keep it to yourself. that said, let's begin!

Q: Before we begin talking about the ‘Crit Post’, I’d love to hear what your experience of MCYTblr was like before it was posted. Do you have any standout memories from this time?

A: Not particularly. There's some things that I guess looking back on nowadays is kind of wild, like how in the groups I was running in, shipping of any kind that wasn't DNF was super frowned upon (as in, I trigger tagged for IRL shipping)…but truthing wasn't really? Or, how back then the lines between 'critblr' and main mcytblr were super fuzzy. I hung out with both groups before the Crit Post to no issue. Oh!!! And this is a wonderful piece of MCYTblr lore that you may not know, but when I posted the Crit Post, I was apart of a MCYT art exchange themed after MCC called MC Creatives. I think it only happened once, and I can't exactly remember who ran it. They were a really nice DNF (? or just DTeam) blogger. I think it's cool to see that even back then the community was pretty tight knit and had overarching community activities like we see today. It's interesting to me that our fandom has missed out on some of the more important parts to being a fandom… not many big bangs, only one or two that I know of. It's very sad, but we are a weird fandom in general, and definitely a Modern Fandom, if you understand what I mean by that LOL. There is one memory that does stick out, completely irrelevant to this interview though. The fake Dreambur meetup. I pulled an all nighter for it. I was shaking. I drew fanart (though never posted it). Everyone was hysterical. And then it was faked and everyone went WHAT.

Q: As you let me know in your dms, you were the user who made the original “SBI Crit Post”. Would you mind giving a quick rundown of what it was exactly, for anyone who may not know?

A: I would, but frankly I barely remember anything about it. It was like… I saw someone being like "weird that we aren't as critical of SBI as we are of DT" and I thought, "Well, I can probably try?" and made shit up. It was nonsense. I can't even remember what I said about Philza. The points against the others were "Tommy is too young to be in this business" "Wilbur queerbaits" and… "Technoblade needs to be less honest about his ADHD he's glorifying it" or something like that. Again, it was nonsense at its best.

Q: What was your reasoning at the time for making the post? Did the overall culture around you play a part in it?

A: Here's the part no one knows: At the time of posting, I was 13 by maybe… one, two, or three weeks. And I'd spent almost the entirety of my time as a 12 year old in a community that was like "we need to be Critical of our Favorite Creators because this is Righteous and the Only Good Way To Engage With MCYT" and I was like "Everyone here is older than me and therefore endlessly smarter than me," and therefore just accepted it. You can see it very clearly in the part that was "critical" of Wilbur Soot. He was queerbaiting for what? Acting like he wanted to kiss men? Dressing nice? Ridiculous! But if we called Dream a queerbaiter (and never GNF, because everyone was convinced he was gay), then I thought surely Wilbur Soot could also be a queerbaiter! This made total sense to baby 13 year old me. It's not fair to really call that indoctrination: it's not like I was falling down an alt-right pipeline or anything. I was just a stupid kid with too much internet access who liked minecraft and knew nothing about like Dan & Phil or Septiplier (kind of thing that would make me suspicious of this activity--especially truthing). I thought I was fufilling some honor by saying "and yes, my favorite minecraft boys aren't without fault either!" The people that stayed friends with me after that… some of them were my closest normal non-Critblr friends, who refused to abandon me (shout out to you guys you know who you are), and the rest were the people in Critblr who were… okay with my behavior.

Q: I understand that the backlash to the post was very intense– what was it like from your perspective? Did it have any affect on you?

A: Lots. Lots and lots and lots. I lost a bunch of my close friends who weren't okay with what I'd said or how I'd doubled down, and it really messed with me as a kid in the middle of quarantine. There were times where I genuinely considered hurting myself irreperably as either a way to "apologize for what I had done" or just a way to stop worrying that everyone I knew was going to block me one day. Those feelings lasted for a long time, I still struggle with them to this day, over three years later (? I think). And I was kind of lead to believe that was an okay response. I recieved asks the night that it all went down where I was told I should hurt myself. Of course my own behavior wasn't cool, but neither was that. I know there was a post out there by a popular (at the time?) Technoblade blogger that detailed the faults in that post, but I never read it. All I knew about it was that people saw it, and harassed me because they saw it, and that the OP of that post hated me. It got to the point that seeing that blogger's URL caused me to have panic attacks, a ridiculous thing because that blogger as far as I know never actually did anything wrong. I don't know. Every once in awhile, someone in the server I'm in (hi some of you are definitely reading this :3 i love you guys) will bring up the post in passing and I'll have to mute the channel for 24 hours because I'm scared. Or even when we're discussing normal drama, if something feels too close to the Crit Post, or like it might come up, I'll get shaky and nauseous and have to mute the channel for 24 hours. It's weird, the shit being told to kill yourself because you did something dumb as a 13 year old can do to you.

Q: As a follow-up: What, if anything, do you wish had happened instead?

A: I don't know really. I guess the obvious answer is "I didn't make the post" or "I didn't double down", but I think the real answer has to be that I wish the community I was in hadn't taught me that what I was doing was an okay move.

Q: Do you have anything else to add about the Crit Post, MCYTblr, or the community as a whole?

A: Not really. I "retired" from MCYTBlr in I think 2022, but kept a passing interest in it for a long time, and I'm still active in a discord (hi again) comprised entirely of fans and retired fans. I loved MCYT, and in some ways, I still do. When I'm sad, I put on old Technoblade videos. When I'm really sad, I put on old Purpled videos. These things are my comforts, things that I haven't ever been able to give up. And that's good! Even if I don't talk about MCYT anymore, I'm glad it's there for me.

Dimensions AU

Okay I know is should be writing but I'm about to go to a big city for a Convention pretty soon and I will have plenty of spare time to write then.

So hear me out,

Technoblade is a piglin. He's violent and very heated. Nether. Obviously.

Tommy is Tommy and the closest to resembling Phil and in the Origins SMP he is literally his apprentice. Overworld.

Wilbur is often depicted as being a holder of a vocal power in many supervillain au's earning him the name Siren. What's a Siren? And underwater creature known for luring its victims to their death using their voice.

Well now you might be like "Well Vik that'd be overworked too right?"

Hahaha yes of course for this dynamic to work Qilbur must be from elsewhere. In the Minecraft community there's always talk of the Aether, a new dimension that people have been BEGGING Mojang to put into the game and now recently they want the Deep dark portal to be used for it.

So, I know very little of the Aether because I have no money to buy mods and I only have a gaming console and not a PC. (I use a laptop to write not the same thing).

What I do know about the Aether is its very much like the End in a way in terms of building style. Floating over an abyss and very dangerous.

"Well Vik why don't you just make Wil from the End-"

BECAUSE THIS IS COOLER AND IT FITS BETTER.

Everything I've seen of the Aether is a kind of blue tint to it. Ghostbur our beloved is still Wilbur and blue is a central part of his being. In Tommyinnit's Clinic for Supervillains, Siren is dressed in blues and blacks. Wilbur bleeds blue (in some headcannons) and in the QSMP Wilbur is often drawn as having a blue scarf as a tribute to his past (idk if that's Ghostbur/Dream SMP or just the UK but that's how I see it).

And for some reason I now associate Wilbur with the Aether and let's be honest, Aether just SOUNDS cool and who is cooler than our MIA of Minecraft streamer himself? This might be a difference of opinion but it all links up now.

Technoblade is from the Nether and Phil found him in a raided Bastion.

Tommy is his biological son gifted to him by Kristen (Kristin I can't find a clear answer how to spell her name (MUMZA))

And Phil found Wilbur during his adventures through the dimensions.

If you want to get technical with it, Phil found Wilbur first after he completed all he wanted in his life in the Overworld and decided to try his hand at the Deep Dark where he killed the Warden and unlocked the portal to the Aether.

After that he took Wilbur to the Nether to pick out cool stuff to put in his room where they found Techno and Wilbur proceeded to find a friend in him and Phil just adopts him as well.

Techno and Wilbur grow up as brothers and Mumza finally visits with a surprise. Tommy with his weird little wings and abrasive attitude.

To round it all out, Philza is originally from the End. Specifically I think he was a friend of the dragon and lived in an End City structure that kind of just merged with itself until it basically became an End Castle. He met Mumza when he accidentally got caught in the void and she helped him up.

Anyways, someone comes along and kills the dragon which ends up in Phil getting angry and killing them but in the process he is knocked into the now open portal to the overworld and he can't get back. So instead he builds himself a home and conquers all that he can before going and looking for his way back to Mumza.

Bam how's that sound? I saw a piece of fanart on Pinterest that showed the little versions of our Brother Trio and I can't find it again so now I'm upset and just wrote it down instead.

Anyways I’m to lazy to make a separate post to announce my return so this will do.

I have been incredibly busy both at home and at work these past couple of weeks however, I have finally managed to fix my work schedule and I am now more available during the afternoons so this is me just saying I’m gonna be more active in terms of actually posting, and not just reblogging, random shit I find fucking funny you know, so there’s that. Besides that I have some art for you lovelies that I have been drawing in my sketchbook, because for whatever reason digital art is just not clicking with me recently, so ya know.

Here we go:

So the first image here is just a Quackity compilation, essentially because that’s all I could draw for this page.

Whatever.

The first drawing on the left side is based off of that AU were Quackity is like the son of the gods of Karmaland heavily inspired by all the art I would see of that AU on Twitter and Tumblr. The second drawing is of Quackity in Pandoras vault, just going absolutely fucking insane you know. The last picture is of Quackity in Karmaland when he and Father Alexby were going around just fucking shit up after Luzu “won” the elections. I got some close ups to for y’all as well.

I had a lot of fun drawing these, especially the revolutionary Quackity because quite frankly it was just one of my favorite versions of him during Karmaland.

Next drawings:

All right, so the drawing on the left is a Rubuis and his role on the QSMP as both the angel and a demon. Here he’s depicted as a mixture of the two personas he plays. The stained glass took a good second to draw, and I drew him with the quote “ Ven mi niño comete la manzana. Eat the apple my child.” This bitch took too fucking long. in the drawing on the right is of Tommy, either sometime during or after exile, praying at prime church early in the morning. I hope I conveyed the pure exhaustion,and just sadness Tommy feels through this drawing.

I’ve also got a drawing of Technoblade on the same page. I just didn’t want to take a picture of the whole page so you’ll just get like a little close-up of him.

That’s actually the first time overdrawn Technoblade, so like thoughts? Opinions?

And now last, but not least the first, and only drawing I have so far of our beloved, Tilin who has, you know, unfortunately passed. This is like my version of them I drew inspiration from various fanarts of them, I didn’t want them to look too girlish or too boyish it’s just vaguely child like you know, they got a little tail and wings.

So anyways, I hope you like these drawings. I should be more active in terms of actually posting.

I regret to inform my followers that I've fallen headlong into Dream SMP lately, and it’s one of the wildest media experiences I’ve ever had. Some of it reminds me very much of the SCP Foundation experience.

It previously existed in my consciousness as "that fandom that shows up on my dash as either a very weird textpost, or fanart that's 50/50 about Dream SMP or Homestuck." The actual media delivers on inexplicability. I think of it as the Untitled Goose of fiction, because every aspect of it radiates chaos and it causes problems everywhere it goes.

In brief: The Dream SMP is a private multiplayer Minecraft server. A bunch of Twitch/Youtube streamers roleplay on it regularly. It grew a “plot” based on improv which later became somewhat scripted in advance. There are arcs, seasons, worldbuilding, factions…

Some meta reasons I love it and compare it to the SCP wiki:

Non-linear.

If you want to get into it, your best bet is starting with a list of youtube videos on a carrd. Or watch 20 million hours of livestream vods. Or summary videos / “movie” edits made by hardworking fans. Either way, you will miss some stuff.

Everyone is literally the protagonist of their own streams.

The in-character/out-of-character line is blurred.

It didn’t actually become a roleplay until a while into the first “season”. Only a few events are scripted, and I get the impression the “script” is pretty freeform.

Obviously this sometimes becomes kind of a problem for, like, inappropriate fan interactions, which is tough and which I don’t want to trivialize.

Anyhow the line is very blurred within the universe too.

E.g. Technoblade canonically hears his Youtube livestream chat as voices in his head. Nobody else does, except for when they do.

Decentralized ownership and storytelling.

Canon is a spectrum – some things are clearly comedic “bits” and some things are well-established worldbuilding – but there is so much leeway in there.

E.g. At one point, there’s a marriage. The streamers in the marriage now disagree on whether the marriage was canonical or not. But it's not a big deal.

This is real SCP wiki "there is no canon" energy.

You can watch the same event from various character's perspectives and get totally different takes on the same event. (short non-spoiler example)

Unusual delivery format.

You don’t expect emotional depth or great creativity or horror or etc out of a Let’s Play… but my god, you will get them here.

Fun exercise: Grab your boomer parents and try to explain your latest interest to them.

Amateur storytellers.

I mean, they’re making a living from it, so they’re professionals now. But the average server age is 22 and it grew out of a casual hobby, and you can tell.

Every single stream, including the very dark introspective ones, have a bunch of chaotic banter and dick jokes.

There are these really serious bits except that the characters are named things like “Quackity” and “BadBoyHalo”.

This is the polar opposite of a polished narrative.

Many of them – and I say this with great, great love – are not amazing actors. It still works. The vibe is more “a bunch of friends fucking around” then, like, "watching a professional TV show.”

Mechanics are integrated in interesting ways.

Sometimes for plot:

Ability to gather resources – skill, the amount of time they spend digging for material, cool builds and contraptions, etc – do influence how much power they have.

But also sometimes for storytelling or expression - this is Minecraft, you know, the Blocks Game - the actors don’t really have access to normal body language. But it turns out you can fit a lot of meaning into crouches, gentle hits, jumping, looking around, what item you’re holding, what you’re wearing.

Sometimes this is hilariously dissonant:

E.g. Someone saying “look at me” to make emphasis, and the streamer has to look at… the expressionless minecraft head of the person? It’s such a vibe.

Sometimes it’s delightfully innovative and format-specific.

E.g. There are no chairs in minecraft, but there are a lot of occasions in real life where people sit, so people will use staircase blocks as dining chairs, couches, etc, and then either crouch or stand on the block to "sit". In a recent stream, during a conversation, one character went to a crafting table, made a staircase block, put it on the floor (of the other character’s house), said “you’re going to want to be sitting down for this one,” and then refused to proceed until the other character was standing on the staircase block.

A lot of these players are really good at the game, among the best in the world. Some aren’t, or at least aren’t on that tier, which is also endearing.

So if you know Minecraft, then there’s a lot of competence porn, but it's interspersed with a lot of very familiar gameplay.

They also do some non-Vanilla-Minecraft elements. They’re not common, but they keep you on your toes.

And most of them are subtle but also, like… for characters living in a minecraft world, if you’re familiar with the game, the phrase “canonical access to Creative Mode” will and should strike fear into your heart.

hey have you heard the techno news? :(

this is from a few days ago, but I'm home from traveling and now can reply with my full attention.

I saw the video notification 15 minutes after it was uploaded. I thought for sure he was simply officially going on a break, or that it was a prank. I don't know why, but for some reason, when they did surgery on his arm, I thought that would be the end of it, that he would get better from then on. Now, I keep fluctuating between denial and acceptance, unable to land solidly onto one. Every time I open Tumblr, I'm reminded of his death, which is both a bad and a good thing- bad because I feel just solemn sadness for a while, and good because I love seeing all the fanart and outpouring of love on my dash.

Suffice to say, Techno was my favorite mcyt CC, by far. Like for many of you, he made me laugh when I was incredibly sad or angry or stressed. I found the Dream SMP hard to keep up with because streams were too long for my attention to be kept, but Techno's streams were the only ones I would watch fully every time, beginning to end. I'd sing "starting the stream" along with him, I donated to him on my birthday just so he could call me a nerd, I changed my Minecraft skin to an Antarctic Empire outfit rendition for a while. He is the only streamer whose "cancelling" attempts I ever fully, and in great detail, covered on my blog, refuting every point Twitter was trying to make about inane things. When he privated so many of his videos, I panicked and eventually felt massive relief when I found them on the Internet Archive. When people said comfort streamer, the only one who really fit that definition for me was Technoblade.

Now I'm rewatching his Potato War videos. I'm going to be rewatching his Story Mode and Dream SMP VODs for the next few weeks, I'm sure. And still, nothing will fill the hole that is left by his current absence. I, like many others, will miss him deeply, but this community that has garnered so much love and creativity and support in the aftermath of his death will sustain me, as it will all of you.

I've seen some really concerning tweets, posts, and comments from hardcore Techno fans (that I can highly relate to), and I want to tell you all this: please keep going. He would want you to. Just because someone is gone does not mean that we must give up and disappear, ourselves. Live on, so his memory can live on in you.

Apologies for the wait it took me to respond to you — I only just checked back in with my ao3 account and noticed your comment, and since you don’t have an account yourself I’m unsure if you’d see my reply. So here I am, plaguing your inbox with it instead! I do hope it isn’t a bother, haha.

I was really very happy to see your name again. Admittedly I’ve saved all the incredible artwork my fic received over the course of my writing it, but yours genuinely have a very special place in my heart as some of the first and last I ever received. I still recall opening my inbox and seeing the notification the first time; it was so surreal to me that people would draw anything based on my works. Your art of Tommy and Techno sitting back to back, as well as your art of the forest trio at the end, serve almost as mental book-ends for me; I return to them often just to admire it, and to remember how happy it all made me. I can hardly believe it’s been more than two years, goodness.

I was also shocked to hear you may be putting together a playlist—if you would be so kind, I would love to know what songs might be on it! At your leisure of course, and only if you feel like sharing it, the thought alone is more than enough <3 thank you kindly for all of your support, truly, and once again for your gorgeous art. The memories have gotten me through many a dark day.

First is Cave by Cody Fry! I wanted an instrumental to start it off and a song to represent the explosion of Manburg; I think this song serves that purpose well!

Half-Mast by Branches is a song I use in my other dsmp related playlists to represent Doomsday but it works so well in this context

^ this bit especially reminds me of Tommy and Wilbur ;;;;;

Casualty by Hidden Citizens & Tash is just absolutely perfect for Tommy. The scene of him screaming out in grief surrounded by the rubble that used to be his home- waaa it’s so good, both the song and scene

Sorrow by Sleeping at Last is for Tommy slowly learning how to live after the explosion (or at least learn how to function again :[ pobrecito..)

The Corner Dwellers by The Vocal Few is a Techno and Tommy song! It simply reminds me of them :’]

To Forgive or to Kill by Bear McCreary was chosen mostly for the title and the fact that it was from the God of War soundtrack skdhdhdh Incase you’re unfamiliar with the game, this song plays during a scene where one of the main characters is debating on whether to forgive or kill another character but ultimately realizes that she can’t do either. So naturally I thought this song would be good for when Tommy saves Schlatt from Technoblade! I’d like to have more instrumentals in this playlist but we shall see,, I’m very picky when it comes to instrumentals skdjddj

Carnivore by Bear Attack! Ok I might replace this song with something else later since it reminds me of c!Tommy and c!Dream’s relationship more than Tommy and Schlatt’s from WWHWI. But it’s works for now! Something to represent their first argument chat after the whole getting locked up bit

Marble Floors by Vian Izak & Juniper Vale is here to sorta represent Tommy longing for his life before the explosion and when he still had Tubbo.

^ also just,, this bit.. Ow

Drown by Seafret is for when Tommy gets blown up by the creeper. Just that scene where it starts off as a dream sequence then slowly twists until he’s suddenly shocked back into reality— GOSH it’s so good. And then the crisis he has afterwards when he bandages himself up, it’s probably my favorite scene. It’s so well done and makes me feel so much ;;;;;

Battling Life by The Dunwells is for Technoblade!! (And a little for Tommy too, now that I’m looking at the lyrics again) Gosh, the man gets injured but he doesn’t let that stop him from taking care of things and taking care of Tommy. You captured his perseverance and stubbornness perfectly :’]

Blood Upon the Snow by Hozier & Bear McCreary! Here I go, to shamelessly smoosh two of my interests together again skdhdj This song is also for Technoblade but more for his exhausted god-ness you characterize him with. (Atleast I think he’s a god in WWHWI? Or is he just a well known champion? Immortal? My memory sucks, I’ll have to find out when I reread it) This song is just super cool and reminded me of technoblade and is part of the reason why I started making this playlist skdjdjjd

Brother by Kodaline… what is there to say? They’re brothers :’’] BUT ALSO WHILE SKIMMING CHAPTER 15 EARLIER I FOUND THIS LINE: “"Stay here," he said to the man who'd long since become his family…” HELLO?? EXCuse me while I go sob

Sirens by Oliver Daldry, I may be wildly misinterpreting this song for this playlist but SCREW IT it reminds me of them okay

This repeating lyric serves as a little nod to the fact that this is an au. How Techno, Tommy and Schlatt would have all been strangers in this world if certain circumstances didn’t lead them to eachother

This bit reminds me of Schlatt @ Tommy, I don’t think he ever outright asks for forgiveness but in time they both find some peace with eachother.

All three of them are so different from eachother but they still care for eachother :’]

The Cave by Mumford & Sons acts as a sort of summary of this story to me! I imagine the first verse is from Techno’s pov, the second is from Tommy’s, and the last is from Schlatt’s.

This bit changes meaning depending on the pov. For Techno it’s him taking care of Tommy, ‘changing his ways’ yknow, or atleast adding the family role to his list of titles.

For Tommy it’d be him taking care of Techno, “finding strength in pain” and learning to move forward despite everything that’s happened

And for Schlatt it’s for him rushing out to help Tommy and Techno during the final battle. Man doesn’t even hesitate :’D

Gosh and just the line “I’ll know my name as it’s called again”. All three of them grew into people they never thought they’d be!! And despite a huge part of their lives is shaped from tragedy they’re okay in the end. It was far from easy but they’re okay. And that’s just so comforting yknow? This story is so comforting and beautiful and raw and I just love it with all my being ;;;;;

Wow that was long and a little all over the place lol!! I’m still working on this playlist as I go but that’s all I have so far :]

DSMP AU where everyone is a generic horror character AKA. that one crack AU i took too seriously

more HCs under the cut

-Technoblade is so fucking smart yet he has close to zero survival skills. He'd be probably killed off at the end of the show in the final standoff with the bad guy, so the best friend character can have a bittersweet ending

-Love-hate relationship with the fans, the writers did him dirty by giftin him little to no personality except being fucking stupid and showin no emotions cuz the writers mischaracterized a mental illness

-fans would probably ship him with skeppy or phil cuz theyre the only ones he talks to, leading to some famous twitter discourse in which someone gets doxxed and hashtag like "techskep wins" or "love loose" trends, making the writers to either get outed as extremely homophobic or to queerbait the fandom so hard its gonna go down in the history

-Wilbur is the onceler of the show. Tall mysterious guy with british accent. The actor playing him would probably get harrassed on the streets by fans too

-literally no connection to the killer, the writers just wanted a plot twist

-Skeppy is literally just comic relief

-Fans are so pissed at writers for not focusing on him and giving him a deeper meaning so theres bunch on headcanons and mischaracterizations from the fandom online

-Probably the only one to question why they cant just call the cops, but once they do, they just laugh at them, because thats realistic

-Philza is the Side Character that fans love for some reason, he has no backstory, he isn't devilishly handsome or extraordinary, yet there's more fanart of him than of main character

-Ah yes, the reigen arataka syndrome

-HE ISN'T A DILF HE ISN'T HE ISN'T

-Dream in this AU is every creepypasta from like 2000s combined. Every single one. you heard me

-You fucking bet that there would be catboy edits of him on tumblr in 2012, and he'd probably have those different sonas like sans or whatever, like based on the color of his hoodie or smth, that people would ship, leading eventually to the death of the fandom

I think one day we should simply make the Movie Goncharov and advertise it as a remake and thereby confuse the general public by making them think there is a 1973 Movie named Goncharov, directed by Martin Scorsese, that they somehow can't find but still go to the cinema to see what the movie is about and then in a corner somewhere after the movie ended there will be a few Tumblrinas that just rant about how much better the original Movie was which will make outsiders even more confused.

I think this is a great idea. Also we could find other Tumblrinas by just simply stating how much better the original was after the movie and it could become a addition to the "I like your shoelaces" Phrase.

After a long time I finally decided to draw some fanart and who would be better than Bruno Madrigal?

I'm still leaning how to draw digitally but I think I'm getting better!

Anyway, all kind of criticism is welcome! I'd love to improve my art! Please be kind though.

Also, since I'm as white as it gets, I'm kinda scared I might not have done his skintone perfect, so please if anyone feels offended by it tell me right a way and I'll do my best to fix it!

Speaking of Hermitcraft, I absolutely love the dynamic between Grian and Scar.

I just watched their recent Hermitcraft Episodes and I loved how Grian immediately went to Scar so that he would help him not to start a Resistance against Ren. Or that later in Scars Episode Grian just used the fishing rod on Scar and Scar just stood there letting it happen, occasionally eating his cookies so he won't die of fall damage.

Their friendship is just so great and I hope that one day I will find a friendship like this myself.

this is your chance: wax poetic about an Empires or DSMP character of your choice to a fan who is new to both. Explain why I should love them. I need guidance in this new and meme-populated land.

okok this is a lot of pressure haha. Spoilers for EmpiresSMP and DreamSMP below, obviously. I wrote a lot so prepare yourself, anon

I watch a lot of empires POVs but the ones I most anticipate every week are Scott and Sausage.

c!Scott (I'll call him Smajor for the sake of simplicity) starts off the series chilling, not really getting involved with the rest of the server, and staying aggressively neutral. After all, he's an elf. He has lived far longer than most of the other rulers already, and will most likely outlive them for many years. So, the best thing is to stick to his mountains and not get invested in the dealings of mortal affairs, maybe sometimes causing problems on purpose and dipping because what's life without a little spice right.

But then, this demon comes to the server, Xornoth. He's going around causing havoc and wants to send the world into an eternal winter, but he doesn't bother the kingdom of Rivendell much so Smajor stays tentatively cautious but ultimately unbothered. But then, the puzzle pieces start falling together. The first thing that the audience noticed was was Xornoth sounded like Smajor, but we mostly thought that this was just due to cc!Scott voicing both of them and there was nothing more to it. However, then, the people the demon starts possessing start chanting in elvish. The demon hates mortals, and the elves are conveniently one of the two confirmed not fully mortal races in Empires.

This culminates when Smajor stumbles across a cave that contains the backstory of the patron god of Rivendell, Aeor. Basically, there's two opposing forces, Aeor and Exor, and both have a champion. In a previous life, those champions were two brothers, where Aeor eventually prevailed and banished Exor. In this life though, the champions are - you guessed it - Smajor, and the demon Xornoth.

So now Smajor is like. Well fuck. It's my literal god-given destiny to be responsible for defeating this demon who is technically my brother, and if I fail the server gets plunged into an eternal winter. And I have no fucking clue what is happening because I've just been here on this mountain actively trying to stay out of the issues outside my kingdom. We watch him panic and teeter on the verge of spiraling for an entire episode, and when the followers of Xornoth go to the End to kill the dragon, releasing Xornoth's full powers, he fails to stop him. Smajor is a character who was used to being the smart one, the prepared one, the one who has the least deaths on the server. But he's also a character who runs away from his problems and ignores them. Before and during the dragon fight, we hear the desperation in his voice, as he's thrown into a situation he is wholly unprepared for, and it's bigger than him going to the Cod Empire to kill their king, or assisting in other people's plans to kill the codfather. He can't run from this. cc!Scott plays this scene so well as well, as I've said before, one of the best parts of Scott's acting is how he's never super dramatic, but he's so effective in the little things like inflection to make you feel, viscerally, the panic and dread.

So after the dragon fight, Smajor realizes, I can't do this on my own. I've tried and failed. So he gets allies. We watch him, someone who has so strongly been an isolationist, learn the benefits of allies and watch him learn to trust others and watch him learn how to get that trust in return.

My favorite thing about Smajor's characterization is that he's an incompetent protagonist, but not in the way of the "plucky young adventurer". He's capable skill-wise, and fairly jaded and very pessimistic. However, his issue is that up until recently, he did not care about the rest of the server at all, and by the time he learned to, it was way too late.

Also, in 3rd Life, cc!Scott and cc!Jimmy were canonically married and they reference it sometimes in Empires. Like, Scott goes over to the Cod Empire every so often both in and out of character to kill and/or flirt with Jimmy, the ruler of the Cod Empire, which may develop as a secondary plot into the future who knows. So ty Scott for giving the gays what they want o7

Now onto Sausage: his is a story of Icarus, his hubris and ambition being his downfall. He's one of the two followers of Xornoth, who promised him endless power in exchange for his servitude. He started the series being eccentric, but not outright unhinged, but slowly gets more and more extreme as the series progresses, as he gets brought more and more to Xornoth's side.

One of the best parts of Sausage's character, in my opinion, is how his gradual corruption affects the people around him. Initially, he got into a conflict with the Cod Empire and was allied with two other people in the Witherrose alliance. They were allies, but also close friends. The fandom liked to joke that the three had sibling energy, and I'm pretty sure the ccs played to that even more lol.

It was painful to watch the other two members, Gem and fWhip, watch Sausage get corrupted right in front of them, and see them desperately clinging on to this old idea of Sausage in their head because if they faced the truth, it would mean that their friend was gone. Eventually, they do finally cut him out of the alliance, leading him to fully commit to the side of the demon. Sausage felt very clearly betrayed by this, and declared the remaining two Witherrose alliance members to be enemies.

He gets more and more possessed, and we even see the other Empires, his enemies even, slowly realize that something is very wrong with the ruler of Mythland. He starts doing more and more evil things, like killing people more, making sacrifices to the demon, and eventually helping to kill the dragon to free Xornoth. So things are good for Sausage, for a bit. He won, and is more powerful than ever. Then he finds out: he's going to die. Xornoth's possession is slowly killing his soul, and eventually, his body going to be fully taken over and he himself is going to be trapped in the spirit realm. So how do you react to this? Over the next few episodes, we watch Sausage struggle between "the demon is literally killing me" and "the demon has given me so much, and I love it", all while Xornoth takes over more and more of him. We hear him exclaim that "don't worry!! I'm still about 15% there!" while trying to downplay every time Xornoth completely takes over his body. We watch him willingly oppose anyone who is trying to end the thing that is killing him.

My favorite thing about Sausage is that he is undoubtedly evil and proud of it, but he's also undoubtedly human. If you like to watch evil characters go absolutely feral, he's the guy for you. He makes the deal with Xornoth in the beginning, knowing and fully embracing the evilness of the demon, but at the same time he knows what he's doing is detrimental to both himself and everyone around him, but he's gotten in way too deep at this point, and to be fair the demon has held up its end fo the bargain, right?

Also, I would be damned if I don't talk about cc!Sausage's editing. Every one of his videos is like a movie. The way he does camera angles and uses music is so skillful- every lore scene feels like something out of a high fantasy action saga (think: LotR). Every big lore event I always wait in anticipation for Sausage's ep because his editing truly takes lore to another level.

I'm just generally very excited to see where this series goes. Empires is such a good mix of talented builders and good lore. Part of the reason why the series is so immersive for me, beyond any other lore smp, is that they have the settings to back it up. There is a certain charm to the DreamSMP's objectively terrible builds (with a few exceptions) but in Empires, the settings help sell the plot so much.

Another part of why I love EmpiresSMP is how much the ccs are involved with the fan community. I'm sure you've seen the memes about Scott being on tumblr, and Sausage regularly goes through the EmpiresSMP fanart tag on Twitter and likes art, even ones not related to Mythland. Most of the ccs, in fact, have brought up tumblr content on stream at some point or another. Like, several ccs have said that they read tumblr lore theories and hcs and stuff and sometimes take inspiration from them. Fun fact: Rivendell's church was inspired by my pinned drawing; confirmed by Scott Smajor himself. It's just such a good cycle of ccs and fans being excited about each other.

As for DreamSMP, I'm gonna be honest here, the only person I really am invested in in Technoblade. I started watching when he joined the server, and he's the only person whose lore I keep up to date with.

Techno's fun to watch because he's like the Deadpool of DreamSMP. Virtually unkillable, very skilled and scary, but consistently cracks jokes and breaks the 4th wall during plot. His POV is just fun. Like, he does wild plans and gives speeches and some of the stuff that happens to him should be called deus ex machine if it wasn't for the fact that Technoblade is the one who's doing it, and all the stuff is grounded in the fact that cc!Techno is just that good at the game.

However, the fact that he rarely takes anything seriously makes the few times Techno is 100% serious so much more impactful. His whole character has a basis in being perceived as inhuman and being treated as such, and therefore in return trying to hide his humanity. So, when he shows that humanity, whether that's fear, anger, or genuine love for his friends, it really makes you go "oh shit."

Techno's often said not to have character development, but I'd argue that while he remains steadfast in his moral code, he develops leaps and bounds as a person. Like, at the beginning, he's brought onto the server to help Wilbur and Tommy overthrow a government; them knowing he's 1) an anarchist and 2) very very powerful. His character was more of a plot device at that point and was treated as such in the canon. Wilbur and Tommy straight-up lie to him about their plans to establish another government after they overthrow the current one, while he was led on to believe that they were abolishing all governments in the area. But he isn't a plot device. He's a person, as much as he only shows the terrifying, blood god side of himself.

After the establishment of New Lmanburg (the new government its a long story), his friend Phil joins. And for the first time, we see him be fully human with someone and we see someone treat him like a human. Like, we saw glimpses before, with Wilbur and Tommy in Pogtopia, but Phil is the first person we noticeably see he trusts 100%. Then Doomsday happens, and Techno essentially retires to the tundra. During this time, we see Techno learn to be more human, first with Ranboo, then Niki when he establishes the Syndicate. In fact, the two of them, along with Phil, canonically throw him a birthday party, which is a far cry from his treatment in Pogtopia.

Techno's development is one of a god learning to be human, and I just think he <3

“Come ON Wilbur! Come with me to check out the huge village I found the other week!” shouted Tommy while making sure to get in his older brother’s way as much as possible. He figured if Wilbur was focused on him and not whatever ‘super important’ shit he was busy with then he’d join him.

Wilbur meanwhile was doing everything he could to sidestep and ignore said younger brother. Now usually he’d humor the much younger boy but Wilbur was sorta busy at the moment. There’s been murmurs of unrest within the L’manburg territory lately since new faces have joined their country.

Apparently they weren’t happy about the fact that Wilbur was a self appointed president, and likened him to a dictator because of it since no one got a say in his leadership role. Which Wilbur thought was highly unfair. He’d fought tooth and nail for his country, so they could have and enjoy all the freedoms to do as they pleased without Dream and his cronies breathing down their necks.

Everything he did he did for his country. But he didn’t want them to see him as some unsympathetic tyrant who didn’t listen to his people. He’s not Dream, he actually listens when they speak, even when they say they don’t like his self appointed role as president. So yes, Wilbur was sort of busy with more important things than goofing off and finding some random village. But instead of snapping he just sighed and said,

“Tommy, I’m working. We’re supposed to be running a country, remember?”

The aforementioned boy let out an aggravated sigh, he knows they have a duty to L’Manburg, he’s not stupid! But he also knows they need to be allowed to have some fun now and again too! Or they’ll go crazy! And Tommy was sure Wilbur would go mad if he stayed cooped up inside all the time working! So this was his way of dragging his brother out for his own good.

But Wilbur was being especially stubborn (wonder where Tommy got it…) and was refusing to budge.

“I don’t have time right now Tommy! Ask Tubbo or Fundy to tag along. I’m sure they’d love to go vandalize a village with you,” Wilbur distractedly said as he wrote down some notes in one of his books.

Tommy was tired of fighting Wilbur on this and decided to hell with it, he’d just take the L this time. So he scoffed and said “Whatever” in the most pissed off teen voice he could physically summon and turned away from Wilbur and stormed out of the brunet president’s house, making sure to slam the wooden door as hard as he could on his way out.

It seemed like all Wilbur did was mope around and WORK since they’d won independence from the Dream SMP. What the hell was the point of even FIGHTING for said freedom if Wilbur wasn’t even going to enjoy it??

Tommy pushed those thoughts away and went to search out Tubbo, he could always count on his best friend to follow him into some mischief! Unlike SOME people. And thankfully it didn’t take the rambunctious blond long to find his friend, and with a grin he ran and jumped on the shorter boy, making him yelp in shock and nearly fall. But then Tubbo saw who it was and started laughing and shoving the taller boy away half heartedly. But after goofing around a bit Tommy remembers why he’d searched out Tubbo in the first place.

“Oi Tubbo, come with me to this weird village I found the other week. I was gonna explore it when I found it but Wilbur said there was an emergency and I had to leave before I could,” he said as they both walked along the main path.

“Yeah sure, but why was it ‘weird’? Was it one of those ones that’s built somewhere stupid like half on a cliff?” Tubbo asked with a laugh.

The two laughed and Tommy explained that the village just looked different? Like there was no cobble! Which was ridiculous because in his opinion that was the best part of villages was all the cobble buildings. Not that he was biased or anything like an American.

But Tubbo just laughed and said sure, they could go check it out. He didn’t have anything else important to do today anyways. Tommy gave a triumphant ‘yeah!!’ because at least he got ONE of his friends to not be a total loser and go out to have some good old fashioned fun with him.

Tubbo told him to lead the way so they were off.

Many blocks away in your village you were getting out of your ‘shower’, which was really just a waterfall hidden by thick trees and hanging vines behind your temple home. But it was the best shower you’d ever used thanks to how the water fell over you in huge sheets. You’d honestly stay in it for hours if you didn’t hate being bored just standing there. But you did get bored, so you got out and began drying off.

Once you were dry you started getting dressed in your usual outfit, then once done you paused before reaching down to grab the newest item of your outfit..

Your mask.

After your… horn discovery the week before you’d just laid in bed all day for a couple days. Not leaving your temple for any reason, not even to shower or eat. You’d have been feeling worse if you’d actually needed food but thankfully you didn’t, so when you finally got your ass in gear and got up to bathe you only felt marginally like shit. At least you had until you went to go bathe…...

But on that first day up you’d just stared at yourself in the reflection of the water and sighed. You didn’t have the urge to cry anymore, so that was a good thing. But you also weren’t a fan of the new horns or glowing eyes you’d had since ending up here. You weren’t even sure what KIND of horns these were?? And… call you crazy but you SWEAR they were bigger than they were before your stint laying in bed..

They’d only been little nubs before, not even as big as your thumb! But now they were at least five inches long and sort of splitting at the tips? It looked weird and honestly felt even weirder what with that velvety texture covering them. You made the foolish mistake of grumbling to yourself,

“Things couldn’t get weirder, right?”

And as if the universe heard you… you discovered a new ‘appendage’ on your body while you started to wash your body off. You’d been lost in thought, just scrubbing yourself with a soapy washcloth when you’d started reaching around to wash your back, your washcloth brushed against something protruding from the base of your spine, right above your ass. This time you didn’t start panicking, you think you were still worn out from the days previous, so instead of freaking out you just slowly craned your neck around to see if you could glimpse the...thing.

A tail.

You blinked, shocked but also.. confused? What in the absolute fuck? Why? When?? This time there was no sobbing or breakdown, you were honestly just puzzled. Are you ever going to STOP growing animal traits or what? Under any other circumstances you might even call the tail cute. It was small, probably just smaller than your hand and about the same shape too. And the majority of the top of it was the same color as your hair, but the sides (and underside after you got curious enough to look under it) were a soft white. With how you were in water the tail looked rather unimpressive and you couldn’t identify what kind of tail it was, but if it was at all connected to the horns then maybe deer? Or caribou? Reindeer? The last two seemed more likely since those animals’ females actually grew antlers you think.

Having to adjust to all this new shit practically every other day was giving you a headache. With a tired sigh you rubbed the area around the base of your antlers, soothed slightly by how the action dulled your headache. But you couldn’t ignore the issue at hand, so you swallowed down your unease and instead just decided since you couldn’t control these… unnatural features then.. well, you’d just cover them up or since that wasn’t possible for the horns now you’d just disguise them?

You’d been stumped for a while on how to even DO that but eventually you’d gone down to the village to feed the animals and you’d watched the armorer leave his house to get started working for the day. And you’d noticed the mask he wore pushed up on his forehead. That’s when the idea for a mask hit you. But you didn’t know how to make or even craft a mask, so you’d gone to the armorer and asked him about it. It was hard to grasp what he was saying clearly but after the months living with the villagers you’d picked up some stuff and could understand them some.

So you let him show you how to make a standard iron mask like his, though the first one he’d made hadn’t fit you in the end so he’d made a second after tweaking the size a bit so it’d fit your face right, since your face shapes weren’t the same. But you were thankful and said so after you put it on. Though the eye holes still revealed your eyes, which you didn’t like. You asked how hard it would be to put reflective lenses in them to prevent your eyes from being seen.

That question turned into the armorer calling over the cartographer, the stonemason, and the shepherd oddly enough to help him out. They were murmuring and crowding around the armorer’s workstation while you watched from the edge of the porch where you sat idly. You didn’t want to hover over them like some busybody, so you sat patiently to see what they came up with together.

And after a while your patience was rewarded when they came over to show you the fruit of their collaboration. And it surprised you how gorgeous it was, which wasn’t fair since you had 4 skill masters working on it together for you.

The mask was actually very beautiful.

It was a white half mask that only covered your eyes, forehead, and upper nose/cheeks but left the lower half of your face bare. And you think it was simply painted white because it felt about as heavy as iron, but the part that amazed you was how it almost looked Venetian in design. On the forehead of the mask was a golden sun, and golden floral swirls came from the corners of the mask and curled near the cheeks and sides of the sun on the forehead, making the mask look elegant and almost vintage.

But the best parts in your opinion were the glass lenses in the eye holes. They were reflective and the same colors as your banner! You don’t know how the villagers did it but the edges of the lens were a goldish orange and the color faded into a violet in the center. You worried you wouldn’t be able to see through them but when you put the mask on you realized the lens only gave things a VERY slight blue/grey tint. So slight in fact that you could fully ignore it if you wanted.

And the second best part was some of the floral swirls actually swirled UP past the top edge of the mask and rested against your horns, giving the illusion that they were somehow part of the mask. Actually with the mask on you could almost trick yourself into thinking you were just wearing a cool looking Mardi Gras mask!

You clapped your hands in glee and couldn’t help the excited sound you let out as you gushed and told them it was perfect! They all let out bashful happy murmurs and generally looked shyly pleased with your praise. You tried to give them each some emeralds but they refused to take them, grunting and shaking their heads each time you attempted to push the gems towards them. Eventually you gave up and resigned to accepting the mask as a gift, but you’d definitely do something nice for them later, to make up for their hard work.

You’d taken to wearing the mask at all times when not in the privacy of your temple. Which wasn’t very hard to get accustomed to. The mask was lightweight and the lenses honestly helped shield your eyes from the glare of the sun so win/win. And it also made your horns, in your opinion at least, less in your face. Which was good because they were definitely still growing. You could tell. And the split in the tip was now more pronounced, making you wonder if they were like… reindeer antlers? It would fit with the tail currently growing out the base of your spine, said tail that now looked REALLY like a fluffy little deer tail since the hair/fur on it had dried.

One good thing was that your tail wasn’t long or huge and could actually be hidden relatively easily under a shawl you tied around your waist. So that was one less thing to worry about. Though your life would infinitely be easier if you didn’t have to deal with all this inhuman bullshit. But you supposed life wasn’t fair and expecting it to be was foolish.

“At least I’m not part some weird animal like an aardvark or something…” you mumble to yourself, trying to view this whole thing in a ‘glass half full’ sort of way.

You’d decided to relax and unwind from your recent discovery by just taking things easy for a while. First day since you got the mask and such you just chilled and started a small farm for yourself. You didn’t need the food but the process of building the farm and toiling the earth and then sowing the seeds was actually pretty therapeutic. The repetition of it all was pretty calming. Just you, your gardening tools, and the earth beneath your feet.

The days following were pretty much the same. You’d tend your garden first thing in the morning after your shower, then you’d go off to find something else easy to fill your time. You took up feeding the animals, making flower boxes and planters around the town to make it more colorful, potion brewing, and even fishing. Which was what you were doing right now actually.

You were sitting on the edge of the pond next to your temple, bare legs in the cool water and your back resting against the side of another grass block, an enchanted fishing rod you’d traded the town fisherman for sitting stuck in the ground next to you while you relaxed. The day was actually quite beautiful and nice. Sun streamed down over you from between the bamboo behind you, fluffy fat bees buzzed overhead as they hunted lazily for pollen, and you were close to dozing off.

“Hnn! Hnn! Hnnn!!”

At least you would have dozed off if you hadn’t heard one of the villagers sorta freaking out. You looked up and saw one of the farmers panickedly shuffling about at the top of the small hill to your left. You wondered if zombies got into the village again? But no it was sunny out, they’d be burning if they did. Illagers maybe? But how would they have gotten around the bamboo and prickly berry bushes?? Well there wasn’t anything else for you to do than do see what was wrong.

You put away your fishing rod, got up and dusted yourself off before hurrying up the hill after the villager. You trailed after them down the lantern lit path but so far didn’t see anything, but you perked up when you heard telltale sounds of one of the iron golems fighting something and taking damage. That put some urgency in your gait and soon you were running to see what was going on. You rush past the fletcher’s home and then the cartographer’s right after but nothing. Then you finally round the corner where the market is set up and see at the very end of the path next to the cleric’s church is the altercation.

You sprint down the path, yelling for the villager’s to stay inside until you ring the town bell as you run past them. You hear the doors slam closed behind you and you manage to get to the problem right as your iron golem gives one last cry before getting poofed. You gasp sadly and then glare when you hear cheering. A blond boy that was shorter than you hopped down from a dirt block tower and scooped up the fallen iron ingots the poor iron golem dropped upon its death.

You were so pissed that you ignored the nagging feeling in the back of your focus that said this kid looked familiar. It wasn’t until he finally turned to look at you that it hit you. Holy shit this kid looked… and sounded.. like that minecraft youtuber, TommyInnit.. Like eerily so. You’re glad you’re wearing your mask so he can’t see the deer in headlights (*ba-dun-ts*) look on your face at the sight of him. And your shock didn’t fade with him speaking. If anything it reinforced the idea that this kid was weirdly reminiscent of that youtuber.

“Holy fuck! You are a MASSIVE woman. Wait, who the fuck are you?!” he said in a loud tone of voice as he looked up at you. It made your eyebrows furrow. You were NOT that big! He was just short! You even crossed your arms and told him so, which earned a snicker from the little brown haired boy in dark green overalls next to him. The blond boy scoffed, looked fully offended, snarked back that you were about the same height as a ‘bloody fuckin’ iron golem!’ so yes you were huge.

You glared at the little TommyInnit look alike and instead of arguing about your height you started scolding both boys, which they hadn’t really.. expected? At least from the surprised looks on their faces (which still had the roundness that came from baby fat). The brunet rubbed his elbow and sort of toed the dirt under his feet while the blond crossed his arms and almost looked to be pouting from the scolding.

“My height isn’t the issue here! The issue is you two barging into my village, killing one of my iron golems, stealing the loot from it, and scaring my poor villagers!! What in the hell were you two thinking?”

The blond tried to cut in, to defend himself but he barely got out the first syllable before you held up your hand to signal for him to silence himself as you snapped,

“I do NOT wanna hear it! You treat others this way?? Like they’re nothing, like their possessions and peace of mind don’t mean a damn thing?! Shame on you both!!”

By the end the two boys looked properly scolded. The brunet wondered if THIS is what it felt like to get scolded by one’s mother, and if it was then he’d like to avoid it for the remainder of his life. And the blond meanwhile actually didn’t have anything to say, or more accurately he didn’t know what to say to not feel like he was in massive trouble.

You meanwhile were just annoyed at this point, so you held you hand out (causing both boys to give you wondering looks) before you demanded the iron ingots that the blond stole from your slain iron golem. He got all in a huff, saying he earned them and they were just ingots- but you slapped that train of thought down with an angry,

“EARNED?? More like STOLE! After you killed my iron golem! Now give them back! I have to use them to make a new golem to protect this village.”

The blond sputtered, face blooming red at being blatantly called out on his theft, before muttering in embarrassment and pulling the ingots out and practically tossing them at you. You caught them and returned them to your inventory before shaking your head at the two and saying they should leave if their only goal in your village was to kill and destroy property. The small brunet quickly spoke up and said,

“No wait, we didn’t come just to mess stuff up! We came cuz Tommy said he found this place last week and it wasn’t the usual village so we wanted to explore it.”

Your stomach churned at the name.. Tommy. This was getting weird again. Way too fucking weird. But you resisted clenching your teeth anxiously like you wanted, instead you raised an eyebrow they couldn’t see and shot back,

“Oh yeah? And how did that escalate into killing my iron golem?”

This time it was ‘Tommy’ who cut in and said it had been an accident! They’d apparently been looking around when Tubbo (you felt queasy now after hearing that name too…) started fighting a spider and Tommy came over to help him, but in the process he accidentally hit the iron golem, who got pissed and smacked him.

“I ran from the thing and towered up three blocks! I knew it wouldn’t let up so I had to kill it! S’not my fault the bastard was holding a grudge!!” Tommy said heatedly, arms still crossed defiantly.

You wanted to rub your temples in exasperation but couldn’t without removing your mask. And like hell you were showing these kids your weirdo inhuman eyes. Though… if they really were the characters from.. the videos you got hooked on? Honestly this whole thing was 10 times weirder than the stupid glowy eyes or even the horns or tail.. Like this has to be proof you’re really dreaming or in a coma or something. What other logical explanation could there BE? These kids aren’t real. Nothing here is. It CAN’T be. The real people behind these… minecraft characters? They’re not here. In this place.

Before you could do a kickflip off the edge of your sanity into a full on mental breakdown you took in a calming breath and pushed those thoughts away until you were alone to give it the proper attention. And maybe so you could have your panic attack in peace and quiet. But right now you had two kids causing ruckus in your village. So you just said,

“Yeah alright, fine. I’ll forgive you both THIS TIME. But don’t make a habit of causing trouble in my village. And you can look around and explore, just don’t steal anything or hurt any of my villagers or animals. Got it?”

The two boys nodded, happy to not have you giving them that Angry Adult Tone anymore. So you turned and started walking back to the middle of the village, calling for them to come on. You had to ring the village center bell to tell everyone everything was okay.

Both boys shared a glance before Tubbo smiled and started jogging after you, Tommy right behind him, both curious about you and your village.

TW Death (Not sure if this counts as a vent?) ( very(?) long) So before I found out the news about technoblade's passing I was reading a webtoon about his c! character, until I went to Tumblr that's when I saw someone I follow saying techno passed and anon asking "Wait technoblade dead?". Then I went on youtube to see the "So long nerds" video and as soon as I heard "if you're seeing this I'm dead" I started crying. Cried through the whole video, and went on Twitter (for comfort/ to see if it really was true) and cried some more. I tried watching youtube but it didn't make me feel any better so I went to bed putting Heartaches by al bowlly and read some manga. (so i pretty much cried myself to sleep). The next day I cried some more while going through Twitter and reading the messages all the CCs wrote. I went to Wattpad to see if any of the persons who wrote for him heard about the news and when I clicked on one of the books I read it put me on a page all about c!technoblade. I was pretty much on Twitter and TikTok seeing how people took the news for just any sort of comfort. Later when I went out and there was no wifi I went on Tumblr and it had an open tab that was a c! techno design and almost started to cry again. But one thing I realized was the fact that I didn't feel as bad later in the day of yesterday cause techno is no longer in pain. It still feels weird to view things about his character and imagining all the c!sbi/p things with him and my oc. Cause I tell the only reason I really got a Tumblr account was for looking at things about techno character. Whether it be his character or not I love/p this man so much and it's been a long while since I cried for somebody and it hurt me really bad but I've accepted he's gone and yes it feels weird/wrong to look at things about his character but I feel like techno wouldn't want us to stop making things about him because he cares about us and his appreciates the work we make of him. One of my biggest regrets was the fact that I never did fanart for him, I always wanted to but looking at other people's designs for him mine always never looked right. So I'm gonna try to make some fanart for him even if its to late. And one more thing to every here including you mother its ok to feel sad its ok to want to stop writing for techno, and drawing art for him out of respect. It's ok if you want to continue doing all those things above or move on to something else. Just know that technoblade never dies as long as he is in our hearts. So take as much time as you need to grieve, and try to look on the brighter side of things. Personally, it's gonna taken a while for me to view anything about techno without feeling weird, the same for others but that's ok. So I'm wishing everyone a great day-no a great life and I know we can all get through this together. (sorry if this is to long.) Also if is one post about some saying no more 4/4 sbi I'm gone-

This might be the longest ask I've ever had haha- but I agree with you completely on everything.

I've already lost 2 uncles, but because of covid, so I kind of knew how to brace the impact even if it still was pretty heart wrenching. But it's always the thought of "He's in a better place" that brings me joy

I feel like it's never too late to start making stuff about Technoblade. I know he would appreciate and love every single thing we make for him, as long as it respects his boundaries, so don't be afraid to start making stuff whenever you're ready ^^

Hello cactae! I love your art it's so cute and refresh's from so much angstTM on the server lmao. But I want to ask about you're thoughts on a redemption on c!awsamdude or do you think he actually can be redeemed?

I read your post about warden!sam while back and you quite sympathize with his character. You brought very fair points that sam is deserving to be sympathized, even though sam is also one the people who don't stream his pov when it comes to the corruption arc or at least prison visits but we feel and see through how it's taking effect in other peoples pov's. I'm a c!tommy sympathizer so I'm not quite comfortable viewing c!sam is such light but I would like to hear your thoughts!

Hello fellow Tommy sympathiser! Thank you for kind words and willingness to hear some opinions :D

Ever since I made that post about Sam, I’ve found a lot info about his character and Sam’s opinion!

I guess one of the reasons, although not too valid but I guess still something, why I sympathise with his character that much, is because I look at the plot from the eyes of young adult. I left the teenage state not so long ago, and I begun to see things differently, almost immediately. Especially things connecting to taking responsibility for our actions and how I had to take responsibility for my deeds when I was a teen etc.

About Sam redeeming. I think it is possible! I think we’re all waiting for the climax, when Dream escapes with Technoblade (supposedly) and Sam “gets what he deserves” aka. gets beaten up, one of his canon lives is taken, all of this type of stuff. Which, honestly? I’m sort of hoping for. I’m a huge awesamponk stan as well! Ponk said some time ago, that maybe Sam will win a way to his heart again, someday? Of course from the eyes of a viewer, it may be weird that Ponk, who had his hand taken literally, by Sam, would fall in love with him again. But I believe that Ponk may be Sam’s redemption, literally. So imagining how maybe Ponk would help Sam escape the hollow building that will only contain him at some point, after Dream escapes, maybe he will run away with him, somewhere, where he can get back to form.

I deeply believe it was the prison itself, that corrupted Sam, not the Egg as some may believe. I also don’t think he’s a bad person as well! I don’t want to be seen as an apologist, I don’t really want to be sorry for his actions tbh? Cause some of his actions are flawed, like breaking Prison’s rules along to his own plans or getting manipulated by mr. Quackster; yet still in some situations I saw his point.

You’re gonna hate me for this hfjfndjdj but I did saw his point when Tommy broke into the prison with Ghostbur. I wouldn’t be surprised in the tiniest, if Tommy was killed by Sam, at that current moment, cause he quite literally broke in. I know Tommy had quite valid reason, getting a revenge, but it could have been executed differently! Well, now it’s honestly not that important, cause it’s past, and there’s not much we can do about it, cause it already happened.

So, going back to Sam being sympathised; Sam said himself that his character doesn’t deserve sympathy, cause he’s a cold, corrupted, dangerous motherfucker. Which, alright, I guess? I think I got to the point where I embrace this corrupted side of his. Cause not every character with which we sympathise, must be a good person. Every character in the dsmp is flawed at some point, some people more, some people less, the question is, which side we sympathise with more.

I mean look at people now! It’s so funny to me, and maybe I’m projecting, but I saw so many people turn to Dream out of the blue! Techno is with him now, and suddenly people that were very much against him, sympathise with him! Sort of. All the drawings of Dream in Techno’s cloak, Techno comforting Dream on fanarts, suddenly it’s all a bit softer!

I think I sympathise with Sam’s softer side, from before the prison, hoping he would be back to it someday. I see his character as the troubled, lonely Warden that was stuck in this obsidian block, trapped with Elder Guardians’s noises and Dream’s screams, echoing through the walls, to the point where he just couldn’t take it anymore and went crazy. Would happen to anyone, but he took the Warden’s role. I mean. He sort of knew this job will take him whole, since he put down the first block of it, probably.

But I don’t want to make a wimp out of him by saying that. I don’t want to establish his character as a poor baby boy that needs love and hugsies and all of this! I just think he lost himself. He is a strong man that will hopefully redeem himself from the prison arc, but I don’t know how

And at this point I definitely stop to know what I’m writing and I’m just pouring random words so I hope any of this is comprehensive enough lmao jdjdhhf
