@scrybird Sorry for the late reply! Complicated stuff happened these past few months, but since you asked about Darya!! (pardon these messy sketches and maybe some messy lore, it's still very conceptual and most of it came from roleplays with friends xD)

Set in a golden age piracy-esq fantasy setting (whether just a vague headworld or other existing settings), Darya is a Persian trans man in his late 30s/early 40s who works as a navigator for ships. Due to a traumatic childhood injury from protecting a friend from bullies, his left leg is weaker and he requires the use of cane, giving the appearance of a relatively harmless older man. But a closer look of his cane will reveal that it's a shillelagh that he can also use as a clubbed weapon when he needs, such as in the event of a pirate attack or sea monster. Though he usually prefers to not have to resort to any violence due to having to watch his own stamina.

Darya as a navigator is a strictly professional one and will often only interact with any crew when his job requires him to do so. He is very withdrawn and doesn't take part in a lot of interactions or social gatherings, even during really long trips where any human interaction is essential to maintain one's sanity, requiring crews to often force him to interact with others. Many other crew members tend not to interact with him so much either, as he's gained the reputation of pulling a knife on others if he feels his boundaries are being crossed or feels disrespected. Those that have known of him for a long time will recall he was more affable in his younger years, but since dealing with many losses throughout his life, whether itd be fellow crew, family, and friends, he has much difficulty getting close with anyone again.

For a long while however, he exhibited odd behaviours of staying out on ship decks for long periods of time, whilst this could initially be seen as him inspecting stars for navigation, he would also do this during the day to the point he'd at times skip on his duties. When asked, he'd claim he heard some kind of singing out in the distance. This 'singing' fell deaf on other crew members' ears, but everyone agreed that it was the effect of a siren if it wasn't the usual sea madness.

When Darya set out to investigate this himself, he indeed found a siren as the source of the song, but instead of then being promptly drowned, the siren, named Marina (and @ari-jay's oc) was surprised at seeing the childhood friend that protected her years ago again, now as a grown man. The two would then proceed to have a close friendship, perhaps the closest Darya has ever been to anyone.

Darya's Moray Eel merman form initially started off as a fun idea or au, but I liked the design so much I tried making it part of his canon. How he turns into the merman I still am not sure, but me and Ari came up with idea that Marina turned Darya into it through a spell in order to save his life from drowning.

I don't really have much for Darya in his moray eel form, but he is now trying to navigate how being a merman works along with his... odd new anatomy with having no legs and a now much larger head that can swallow crabs whole. However no longer having legs doesn't mean his disability has been cured, as even though he had found swimming easier than walking as a human, he still suffered from easy strain which still carries over to his moray form. He is still not one to intermingle and even with other Mers, Sirens, and other Marine sophonts he still would rather not socialise so much, but thanks to Marina opening him up a bit more he's slowly becoming more affable.
