BuzzFeed published a report claiming that Tumblr was utilized as a distribution channel for Russian agents to influence American voting habits during the 2016 presidential election in Feb 2018.
So I’m new to football and all. What does the captain do exactly on the field like why does it matter who wears the band
so captains have different roles, both externally and internally for the team, but the main role is to be the leader, to calm down or motivate the team to victory, and to be the team's representative on the field for any disputes with the other side and referee.
also, the armband is a visible representation for the captain who is playing to signal to everyone on the pitch and to everyone watching from the stands who the leader is.
internal duties on the pitch:
command respect and lead the team on the field
liaison between manager, staff, and rest of team
boost morale for team before the match, on the pitch, and during halftime
external duties on the pitch:
be the team's ambassador pre-match, on the pitch, and after
participate in the coin toss before a match to determine which direction the teams are to attack and prior to a penalty shootout
mediator between referee and rest of team on calls or lack of calls by ref
both alexia and irene are excellent examples of all of the above. and how can we forget alexia's motivating speech from the champions winning season as shown in matchday: queens of the pitch?!
Sometimes I want to bring Morrigan but then I remember I play as a face-tanking rogue and I bring Wynne.

“Anyway, regardless of the state of the other teams, I have a proposition for you.”
Buck raised a curious eyebrow, willing him onwards.
“If we win, you give me your number.”
Silence fell between them as Buck appeared to consider the offer, his arms unfurling as he rubbed a hand against his jaw. Bucky couldn’t tell if he was fucking with him or not. Five seconds suddenly felt like five hours. Eventually, Buck gave a hint of a nod, his expression breaking out in a small, private smile.
“Okay, you’re on. You guys win, I’ll give you my number.”
musing about what a translation of the silt verses would sound like and immediately running headfirst into the problem of whether and how to translate 'Sister Carpenter'
Loving how half of my dash is filled with Europeans supporting England through gritted teeth just because they want Spain to lose, and the other half supporting Spain through gritted teeth just because they want England to lose. It's truly beautiful how football brings us all together.
i remember that mana shim said that part of the reason why she didnt want to speak out originally about her abuse was because there was so much concern about the nwsl folding like how the wusa and wps did. that there was this feeling like 'i dont want to be the one to ruin it' because so many of these women had fought so hard to get a professional women's league started in america. these players had a minimum salary of <$7,000 and were expected to try and play full time professional football on that salary. non-national team players had a salary maximum of $31,500. many of them worked multiple jobs to fund their careers.
i can never really take arguments about the quality of women's sports seriously.
women's football was banned completely for 50 years in england. 50 years, the men got to play and learn and improve and adapt. 50 years, the men's game evolved. and 50 years, the women were banned. are you don't think that might have an effect on the sport as a whole? many other women's sports had similar bans at one point or another.
the men can do virtually whatever they like and get paid hundreds of thousands – millions, even.
did you know the manchester united women's team got a brand new, team specific building last season? and in june it was announced that the men's indoor facility would be needing to go under construction so it could be "revamped"? and that the women's facility was handed over to the men for training? and that the women will now train in portable buildings?
but yes, of course. talk to me about the product. talk to me about quality. because we must be objective, we must look at the numbers. its so obvious, of course, the men are simply outperforming the women! the men must be better. there is no other explanation.
Hi there! Do you have any advice on learning the more technical side of football? I’m constantly watching games and different leagues but still really only know the basics and am trying to learn the tactical side of it. I didn’t grow up with sport in my family so I’m on my own in this case.
hi anon - i think a lot has to do with how you consume football. a few tips:
first, i'd recommend watching football with more technical commentators if you have access to them. for example, if you watch football with dazn's english commentators, then i'm not surprised you are not picking up anything because they are terrible 🙄. but a good broadcasting pair (dazn's spanish team and tv3cat are way better) will point out formations, movements, tactics, and that kind of thing in real time.
re-watch matches. you will always miss many tactical elements of a match on first watch. however, the more times you watch a match, the more you pick up.
read articles and match reports about a match and/or watch post-match analyses. these talking heads/journalists spend more time discussing the more tactical side of football in depth. some media resources that cover femení here.
watch men's football. unfortunately, we just don't have the same level of tactical analysis on the women's side of the game yet compared to the men's side. however, if you are more interested in general tactics, it would be a good idea to watch barcelona menení. and there are plenty of english language resources that break down and analyse their matches.
i think it's more about quality watching than quantity watching. and by surrounding yourself with the vocabulary and examples of tactics in football, it'll come!
and never a bad idea to start by re-watching this match 😉
