My smal fig plant have fruits😍
Fig trees produce two crops of fruit a year and are considered a low maintenance fruit tree to plant in home gardens. They need a well drained soil mixed with plenty of well composted manure and placed in a protected position away from strong winds. Picking a fresh fig from a tree in a home garden is one of the greatest pleasures a gardener can experience!

New gardener? Just found a pretty neat resource that you should definitely spend some time poking around: https://coopgardens.com/gardening-flowchart/
It’s a step-by-step guide to getting started, and while a few links are broken, there is a lot of really awesome information that they’ve gathered all in one place.
Like this chart that tells you pretty much everything you need to start saving seed: https://www.communityseednetwork.org/assets/storage/csn-chart-guide.pdf
Just, give it a moment and check it out.

Found three different types of wild berries on a very short walk in Philadelphia today. Woodland Strawberries, Mullberries and Wineberry (looks and tastes like Raspberry) I’m getting more familiar with PA’s edibles but have tons to learn. What else should I be looking to forage in a NE summer? #forage #growfood #edible #food #growfoodnotlawns #wildfood #wild #foraging #wildberries #permaculture #agroforestry #naturelover #nature #philadelphia #selfsufficient #sustainableliving #sustainable #instafood #foodnotlawns (at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ7SEMiBwNN/?utm_medium=tumblr

My pal @prairiewildroots at a recent farmer's market. I've been trying to move past my hoarding habits when it comes to things like old pack film for my polaroid land camera. This film doesn't have an infinite shelf life, best to use it while I can! This film for example, expired in the 80s. Still performs tho! I also got a harsh reminder in care, when I was too casual with handling this print after I pulled it. Shoved it in my backpack, and dang if there wasn't a big ol scratch on it when I pulled it out! Lesson learned. . . . . #portraits #punx #windy #makeportraits #shotonfilm #filmphotography #filmsnotdead #bnw #blackandwhite #shootfilm #polaroid #packfilm #instantphotography #polaroid665 #expiredfilm #foodnotlawns #noir #ruralgothic #enby #nonbinary #photography #queerartists (at Onanole, Manitoba) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByvibWHhlR4/?igshid=1iz1bt347nmzk

Planting Planning 2019
Things are happening!
I now have my grow shelf set up: the only bit that isn’t ready now is the front flap to keep us from blinding ourselves with the grow lights. We have four 5000K (daylight) LED bulbs, putting out 800 lumens each, surrounded by reflective walls, plus a Jiffy heat mat. 18 square cups in three trays, each cup being about 3” across so I won’t have to pot anything up. I’ll be starting three pots each this weekend of bell peppers (Early California Wonder), tomatillos (Tomayo), and cucamelons. I’m contemplating whether to start my Summer Dance cucumbers at the same time or wait another couple of weeks to get them underway.
Still checking some of my planting dates. And I feel like I’ve forgotten something, but that’s fine — I’m going to finish my research on planting dates and update this post in a bit.
Going to winter-sow some calendula using plastic bakery boxes this week. It rained today and the snow is starting to let go a little bit.
Beans, peas, and nasturtiums go in directly whenever the ground is ready, which could be any time from mid-April to mid-May, depending on the thaw rate.
Pumpkins get started indoors in mid-May. Okra gets direct-sown around the same time
I also need to look into the utility of spiral stakes for making arches out of wire fencing.
I’ll try to add a pic of the grow shelf, too.

One of the main aspects to keeping a healthy garden is leaving wild spaces for pollinators, beneficial insects, and soil wellness. Along with keeping your land in balance with nature, a wild area can provide you with a wealth of edible plants. This area is never sprayed with chemicals, and none of our pets use this as their bathroom. It’s our way of sharing space with the land in a mutually beneficial manner. . How many edible plants can you find in this photo? . . . #foodnotlawns #natural #naturalremediation #wildlife #nature https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf4cetauLtv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The wineberry patch is starting to look pretty good. These fantastically weird rubus berries (raspberry, blackberry etc) are hidden inside the sort of lantern like covering until they start to ripen. They taste like slightly sharp and tropical raspberries, a little like a physalis (cape gooseberry). If enough survive the kids I might try and test their namesake and brew them into wine 🍷 . #urbanfarming #allotment #growyourown #pickyourown #fruitsalad #permaculture #foodforest #foodnotlawns #organic #organicgardening #gardening #agroforestry #orchard #smallholding #homestead #wineberry #perennialgarden #homebrew

Urban agriculture can be aesthetic as well as functional. On a busy street in Fayetteville, Arkansas we erected a teepee style trellis that is now covered in 3 vines of the cucurbit family. ... ... Passersby are astonished to see watermelons, cantaloupes, and cucumbers hanging from this bamboo structure in such a public place. ... ... ... #permaculture #arkansas #fayetteville #gardening #urbanagriculture #ediblelandscaping #ecoculture #ozarks #watermelon #cantaloupe #cucumber #sustainability #foodnotlawns (at Fayetteville, Arkansas) https://www.instagram.com/p/BnSHXIHFRxt/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=106y4v8rfdu44
