Fic: Somewhere That’s Green

[based on a post I made about Eddie’s future]

It’s a hole in the wall just off the main drag, the kind of place you can’t find unless you know to look. In a previous life it had been a pizzeria, which explained the bright green vinyl awning Eddie had no intention of replacing. He’d kept the pick-up window, too, used it to host “office hours.” (“Office hours” was supposed to mean “deliver personalized music recommendations to interested passers-by.” Now it means “help harried, double-parked parents reschedule music lessons.”) 

He’d also kept the apartment upstairs. They have a house now—a nice one, with a wrap-around porch and a big backyard and a cluster of hedges Steve always insists are “a mess”—but when Eddie trips into an inventory hole and loses track of time, it’s nice to have a place to crash. If it’s not a school night sometimes Steve joins him, and they’ll relive the halcyon days of their early twenties, buoyed by cheap beer, diner curly fries, and giddy infatuation. (The infatuation has only grown and flourished even as his tolerance for salty food has withered. Acid reflux is a bitch.)

He’s happy they kept the apartment. He happy knowing that if someone needs it—someone scared, broke, desperate for a lifeline and a scrap of no-strings-attached kindness—it’s something he can provide. 

Initial plans had been to focus on music, just music. It was supposed to be the utopic all-metal record store of Eddie’s nightmares.  But as he started to build stock, he remembered how hard it had been to find merch for the things he liked. How a pin or a patch or poster he’d dug up at a garage sale four towns over made him feel more seen than anything on offer at the local mini-mall. How he wanted to be a hub for the weird shit not everyone liked, but the people who did loved. His horrible little magpie brain fluttered from shiny thing to shiny thing, and by the time opening day rolled around the store was a one-stop shop for all things music, merch and whatever wacky knick-knacks tickled Eddie’s fancy. Or horrified Steve. Or both. Both was best.

The Corroded Coffin guys slotted in easily. Francis always liked doing promo for their gigs, was good at it, too. But by the early 2000s, his methods were apparently so outdated his daughter begged to let her take over. (“He’s stapling fliers to telephone poles, Uncle Eddie. You don’t even have a website.”  

“What is a telephone pole covered in fliers if not the working man’s web-ed site?”

“Oh my God give me your credit card I’m buying you a domain name.”

“A what?”)

Jeff got his CPA and took over the financials, reeling Eddie in whenever he was struck by the urge to make a impulsive, outlandish purchase. (“I genuinely don’t understand how you make money.” 

“It’s cause I don’t do my taxes.”

“I do your taxes. At a great personal expense.”) 

Gareth was instrumental (heh…) in building up the music program—soundproofing the basement and hiring instructors and coordinating concerts and organizing payment plans, all the nitty-gritty non-music stuff that made Eddie’s head spin. At some point it just made the most sense for Eddie to cede control, let him operate it however he saw fit. (“This is your baby, dude. It’s a baby that took form within my own, much larger baby. But it’s yours.”

“I’m touched by your words and appalled by your phrasing.”

“That’s the only way I could have said it.”) 

(Gareth also once described the store as an “Elevated Hot Topic.” Eddie still hasn’t decided when he’s going to kick his ass.)


Momentum grew. Ideas compounded ideas. A kid asked how to sew a patch to his backpack and it snowballed into the Build Your Own Battlevest Workshop. Wayne suggested knocking out the connecting wall between the walk-in freezer and the pantry, and now thrice weekly Eddie runs table-top games for varying age-sets and skill-levels. (At Steve’s request, the elementary school group is called H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS FIRE CLUB. Not because he thinks it needs to be censored. He just thinks it’s funny.)  (He’s right.)

It was supposed to be a record store but now it’s so much more. Now there are listening parties and movie screenings and little league teams with his store’s name on the back of their jerseys and and and—

Eddie used to think, if he got lucky, he’d last a year. Now he’s closing in on 30. He was profiled by the local newspaper. They called him “a pillar of the community.”

Wild. 

It’s a warm, sunny April morning. He’s sitting at the takeout window, sipping coffee from the bottom half of a teapot-teacup combo that reads, in a menacing blood-red font, THIS FREAK DRINKS TEA. His hair is gathered in a loose braid, the ends still damp from his post-run shower. (Sometime in their mid-thirties Steve tricked him into maintaining a consistent cardio routine, and now he’s the type of person who gets out of bed at the crack of dawn to knock out an “easy three.” He’s a monster, a husk of his former self. A husk with a much-improved lung capacity and thighs that can juice a watermelon but nonetheless HUSK.) The middle school is about a half mile from the shop; he pulls faces at all the students filtering past. (Steve’s kids, current and former, refer to Eddie exclusively as Mr. Munson’s Husband. It never fails to thrill him.)

He’s leaning back to flip the record piping through the store’s speakers (“Dustin I don’t care if it’s ‘easier’ to ‘create a Spotify account,’ whatever that means. We play vinyl only! Let me be pretentious about this one thing!”) when he hears a meek, polite cough coming from just beneath the window. He peers out and on the sidewalk stands a girl. She’s small, too little to be one of Steve’s. She clutches the strap of her backpack, blue eyes huge with nerves and determination. 

“Hail and well met, weary traveler!” He’s speaking in what Steve calls his Dork Voice, the slightly tuned-down version he uses to put shy kids at ease. “How might I be of assistance?” The girl purses her lips, sets her shoulders, shakes her shaggy bangs out of her face. Eddie thinks suddenly of Nancy and Robin and his heart clenches.

“Do you like games?” She asks.

He smiles softly. Drops the act. “Yeah.” He rests his scarred cheek in the cradle of his palm. “I like games. Do you like games?”

The dam breaks.

“Yes!” She replies at once, breathless with enthusiasm. “My family plays a lot of board games, like Game of Life and Monopoly, and they’re okay but kind of boring, but my brother taught me how to play Settlers of Catan and I really liked that, and my friends and I played Werewolf at a sleepover but we made up a bunch of extra rules to make it harder, and my cousin showed me this video game where the ending changes based on what choices you make and that’s so cool—”

“Alright, slugger.” Eddie can’t help but laugh. “What game are you looking to play?”

The girl collects herself. “Okay,” she says. “Okay, so. So I like it in games where there are rules, but also you can make stuff up? And you can do something weird that might ruin everything but also might pay off? And sometimes you have to work with other people to accomplish your goal, but alliances can break?” Eddie nods. “So there’s this one game. It sounds like so much fun, but nobody I know plays it. They play it on this show I like, well, okay, it’s not really a show, it’s, uh, okay do you know what a podcast is?” Eddie beams.

Steve swapped study hall coverage so he could pop in for lunch. Tonight is parent-teacher conferences, which means Steve’ll be home late, which means Eddie will get absorbed in a project and either crash upstairs or stumble home well after Steve’s gone to bed, which means they’ve got to snatch the time together they can get. They split a sandwich, a salmon burger from Costco Eddie threw in the air fryer and smashed up with avocado and grilled poblano pepper. (”It’s heart healthy!” “You’re heart healthy.” “Aw.” “I meant that as an insult.” “I’m not taking it as one, mwah mwah mwah.”) Eddie eats too fast, as he often does, and drags his nails over the veins of Steve’s forearm to distract himself from his gastrointestinal tract turning inside out.

“🎶Myyyy babyyyy myyyyyy babyyyyyy,” he hums against the shell of Steve’s ear. “You’reeee my babyyyyy sayyyy it to meeeeee🎶.” “Alright,” he huffs, tapping his fingers to the knobby bone of Eddie’s wrist. He presses a kiss to the underside of Eddie’s jaw and rises. “I gotta get back.” He slings his messenger bag over his shoulder, gathers the papers he’d promised he’d grade but didn’t. Eddie watches him readjust, watches him smooth down the salt-and-pepper hairs dusting his temples, watches him push his glasses up the bridge of his nose. He catches Eddie watching and asks, slyly, “What?”

Eddie wants to say, I love you. He wants to say, you’ve made me happier than I ever thought I could be. He wants to say, I’m so grateful I built this life with you. 

But he’s still himself, so what he says is, “Those khakis make your ass look great.”

Steve scoffs, and with a bitchy eye roll he sinks his weight onto his back foot and says, “I KNOW,” and there he is. There’s the man he married. He looks over his shoulder before he leaves, his honey-warm eyes liquifying Eddie’s spine.

“Hey,” he murmurs. “I love you too.” Eddie kisses him and kisses him and kisses him.  Pretty good life.

👕 17. What are your character’s thoughts on wearing costumes?

I think he'd find it fun as hell. I think he'd like to run around and fuck around with people in-character, even moreso if he can get others (either his partners/ friends or his brothers in RGBFv) in on the bit. He's a playful little shit there's no way in hell he's passing up the chance to get a little goofy. A bit silly, even.

📦 11. What might an acquaintance think is a good gift for your character?

Fuuckkk an acquaintance specifically? Probably would default to anything music-themed, like keychains with music notes/ shaped like mics/ etc. or similar trinket-y stuff. Could also see people getting him fucking. Tech Decks. I think he comes off as a guy who would fucking love Tech Decks (cannot remember if this is something stated in canon or if I'm just inferring from fan content I've seen) and it's a very correct assumption. I think video gives Beef energy (the other two ppl in my mind would be Pico and Darnell Of Course bHABHFHAA).

📦 17. What is most important to your character when shopping?

I think it's function over anything, though also in saying that this guy would be so fucking tempted to buy a bunch of small stuff he Does Not Need cuz they look goofy as hell. But say he's specifically sticking to what he needs to get, he goes for what works the best; preferably keeping the cost pretty low, too. <- worries less about the cost when dating GF cuz Yaknow. Dad's Money. But still prioritize what'd get the job done over going for expensive stuff.

🍽️ 16. Is there a food texture your character doesn’t like?

I don't think so ??? Bringing back my describing him as a human vacuum; as long as it's not a weird texture bc part of his food's gone bad, I don't think he'd care. He strikes me as more of a "flavor matters to me more than texture" guy anyway.

💓 7. Is your character good at practicing self-care?

Ah Ha Ha

I don't think he'd be the worst at it, he wouldn't neglect himself per se & would be leagues better at it than Pico would be in comparison, but he's definitely not the Best at it. Isolates when he feels bad and feels like he just needs to Get Over It instead of actually addressing what's upsetting him. Would rather pretend nothing's wrong instead of worrying others "unnecessarily", when he can take care of it himself. And by "take care of it himself" he means "bottle it up and go back to pretending I've never felt bad in my life".

ok so idk if this is a hot take or whatever but i rewatched the rgg movie from 2007 and that shit ROCKS i like it so much more now bc like,, the first time i watched it i was expecting a straightforward adaptation of the first game's plot and that's just fully not what it is at all nor what it was trying to be

like yeah most of the nishiki final boss stuff at the end is pretty underwhelming but it's not about him. it's about kamurocho!! it's about the reasons people turn to crime and the humanity of everyone involved except for jingu lmao and how fucking bonkers mad you feel when it's a little too hot outside and?? sadomasochism??? between the masochist info guy and majima using the same door slamming technique on kiryu that he used for said info guy and then the very very sexual connotations to the majima chestsitting knife dick shot in the bedroom at the soapland I'm just saying there are. implications. like additional ones to the inherent ones of the kazumaji dynamic like yeah!! that's all good. and once you stop waiting on game events to happen you can just like,, enjoy the stuff happening in it. it's a very character-centric movie and that scratches an itch for me.

it's also like wayy funnier than i remembered lol. some of it's not really on purpose like the cg helicopter just skating all over town shattering windows for idk reasons I guess. probably because jingu's an asshole? idk you could probably read meaning into jingu's symbol of power carelessly wrecking kamurocho but i think it's probably just for shits. but like,, the baseball stuff (the scene where majima calls their match a doubleheader and then the subtitles explain what that is for like three lines over like 30 seconds of gunshot footage is fucking top notch) and kiryu's flip phone troubles and the hostage takers requesting nice expensive food and the hostages thanking them and then the cop being like "if they'd asked for anything more expensive we would have taken them out" and all that idk I'm so endeared to it rn

i also find it kinda fascinating that majima is so present in this because like,, to my understanding, before the release of 0 (and therefore before kiwami's majima everywhere system and whatnot), majima was considered this kinda random side character, like he'd just show up whenever and fuck off again like that. he played a much smaller role. he's not even especially important in the og yakuza, and this came out around 9 months before y2 so it's just based on y1 majima's vibe. yet they gave him significantly more attention than nishiki or kazama or even yumi (though all three were sorta background figures it's like they were already ghosts. man kazama doesn't even DIE in this, he just leaves. they make up for him living by making nishiki's hair a casualty bc oh my LORD what was that jdhshsh). truly goes to show what a silly guy does to a mf

(also they actually give majima and haruka an interaction here??? and he's kind to her and kiryu trusts him to not hurt her and she's like "idc I'll beat you up don't fucking TOUCH ojisan" and he's like "well damn. go on then" gah augh love. closest thing we have in rgg to my knowledge is majima kidnapping her offscreen and him [vague rgg5 spoilers] risking his and saejima's lives to save her bc she means so much to kiryu. here he just doesn't wanna hurt a kid)

obviously it's kinda weird to ditch most of the plot/key characters of the game and i don't think it's great that they tried to tie it in at the end how they did but like. eh idk I'm happy with it. it's a good time. i won't argue it's a masterpiece (mostly bc i don't like arguing over whether media is "objectively good" or whatever) but it DOES make me happy :D. so. thanks like a dragon (2007) mwah mwah xoxo

it's the eighth day of this california trip. trying to remember each day (i'm kinda high by the way, sitting on the bed next to my mom who's watching bridgerton):

july 21 - 22

airport at midnight. A family friend drove my mom and my sister and me. i wasn't able to smoke for more than fifteen hours. i almost had an anxiety attack on the plane because of it. my mom told me to hug myself. i did and somehow it calmed me down. thank you for that. also i had totally forgotten to take my meds in the morning, between the flights. we landed in panamá and it was time to board the other plane. we landed at 5pm in lax, beautiful gigantic airport. we couldn't find the rental car, so we had to take a shuttle. amazing. we had issues with the credit cards but my mom managed to sort it out. driving to the tuscan garden inn in dtla, i remember being excited. also kinda shocked to see so many homeless people. i didn't think the housing situation was this bad. my mom hated the inn i'd booked, but she liked the room so it was alright. we went to an ihop and i put my first sticker on the wall outside, next to the entrance. i think it looked good. i was nervous because my mom asked what if they arrest you? i hated her for putting that thought in my head. my sister was being super antisocial and grumpy, as usual.

july 23

tuesday. four hours ahead and i never felt jetlagged. maybe because i slept on the plane. like shit, but at least i slept. what did we do? we went to the Hollywood walk of fame, which was way bigger than i'd thought. also they weren't columns on the same street, they were one big single file of mostly old iconic stars, like judy gartland or frank sinatra. but also random but cool people like the jonas brothers. my favorites were fleetwood mac, obviously, and rupaul, also obviously. my mom had to get a sim card because she didn't get any signal. my sister had bought one the day before. i waited for my phone company to give me the free international roaming plan they'd promised. and it worked. we went to the dolby theater and bought stuff in victoria secret, which was way cheaper than it is back in chile. we took a tour of the chinese theater and it was super cool. we also went to the madame tussaud's museum. the wax figures were impressive. i liked meryl streep, harry styles, katherine hepburn and many more. we had korean bbq for dinner. ***my sister told me to include the waiter she fell in love with and also have her getting married to him in the end lmfao

wednesday. disneyland. oh my god. we drove the whole way to annaheim just to have me break down a little in tomorrowland. it really sucked because i was excited to hop on the games. but as soon as we got to the park, i started feeling super uncomfortable. too many people. smoking wasn't allowed. i was really fucking anxious and i hated everything about it. it was ugly and shit was expensive. i ended up crying and going back to the inn. my mom got mad, of course. my sister too. but then they understood me and said i could go have an la day by myself, but i had to go pick them up. of course. it was the least i could do. and so i went back to the inn. took a shower and washed my hair. i got on tinder, hoping to get a date for lunch. i'd only spoken to that guy and some other guy and both were very direct. do you wanna hook up? are we gonna kiss before or after lunch? they were flirty and it was fun but also i didn't feel comfortable or safe enough to meet them. of course. another country, another set of rules. maybe. i didn't get lunch because the only place within a walking distance was a mexican one that didn't seem like they had good food. so i crossed the street and bought a pre-rolled joint. because marihuana is legal here and it's the best thing that's ever happened to me. even though my mom fucking hates it. later, i went to inglewood and stopped to get fries at a jack in the box. i took pictures of the dunes, which is way issa and lawrence lived in hbo's insecure. it's one of my favorite shows of all time. my phone didn't connect to the car so i was listening to the hits radio. so much pop music. some of them great, others just alright. i drove all the way to west hollywood to get to an ulta beauty store and buy the makeup i wanted. again, cheaper than chile. i got about-face and af94 products. i love them so much. did i do something else? oh right. i got chips at whole foods and went back to the inn. i ate most of them, drank one beer and got high while talking to mar, my beautiful tumblr friend. i waited for my eyes to go back to their original color and i took a thirty-minute nap. drove back to annaheim and had dinner with my mom and sister. they didn't seem mad at me and that relieved me. i still wanna pay my sister back for the ticket i didn't use. i will, i just need more time to gather money. i hate to say i don't have a steady income. or an earned income at all. i started to worry about getting a job or doing something, but i decided it was best to be in the present and enjoy our california trip.

july 25

thursday. what did we do? the most random thing ever. we went to silverlake, which i loved, because i'd found an open mic in a coffee shop. it turned out to be a stand-up comedy open mic. no one had a guitar, which sucked because i really wanted to play. but i wasn't gonna pass on the opportunity to sing something in front of californians. so i sang acapella the title song of my ep. i made the audience of fifteen people clap their hands for the duration of the whole song. about four and a half minutes. they followed along and i also commented on stuff while i performed. they found it charming i guess. one of the hosts said i was funny and talented, which was such an amazing compliment coming from someone from silverlake, one of the coolest neighborhoods in la. my sister went up too, it was a bit cringe but it was also fun. i hadn't realized how much she loves to be the center of attention. does that represent our upbringing? maybe. okay, so then we went to griffith park and the griffith park observatory. it was so fucking amazing to be there. i got a bit anxious when i found out smoking wasn't allowed in the park. but i smoked one cigarette anyway, hiding in some corner at the observatory. i loved seeing all the space stuff. sun and moons and stars. the hike there was intense for my mom, but she made it and i love that. i think going to the gym back home kind of trained me for this trip. there was no way i could've walked up such a long and steep hill if i didn't exercise at least once a week. we went back to the inn and went out shopping to ross and marshalls. then we had dinner in west hollywood. i had a margherite pizza. so good. i think this was the first day me and my sister started getting high and playing cards before bed.

july 26

friday. morning breakfast burrito at the beachwood café. amazing. we checked out of the tuscan inn and drove my sister to a dance class. we went through laurel canyon drive and i absolutely loved it. such big gorgeous houses. nature. it was really cool. then i drove my mom to the lacma museums and i went to four recording studios, hoping to get a tour or something. westlake recording studios didn't let me in, but the guy was super nice. he gave me a bottle of alkaline water and i gave him a bunch of stickers and business cards. amazing. i went to eastwest studios. they didn't let me in either. sunset sound, no luck. henson recording studios, no luck either. but it's fine. maybe i wasn't meant to go inside and meet people without being absolutely ready. i also went to a guitar center, such a cool place. i bought bass strings. then i picked my mom up, my sister, and we drove away from la. leaving was so sad but i knew it couldn't last forever. we slept at an airbnb in oak view. my sister and i played carioca on the patio. it was so dark and the decks were different colors, black and white, so it was really hard to distinguish each card. especially because it was late at night and there weren't any lights. so she put her phone's flashlight on the table. we were so fucking high we couldn't stop laughing. it was great.

Wooo I can add on about Rune factory to because I’m sooo normal about it!!

Rune Factory 1 and 2 aren’t bad. But they’re the earliest games in the series and it’s very obvious while playing them. I also haven’t played Frontier/Tides of Destiny/any of the specials so I’m probably more normal about the series than I think.

RF3, 4, and 5 all have map icons. RF5 even has icons to tell you where to go for character events! This is not as good of a thing as it sounds like in my opinion.

Quests also don’t expire in any of these games! You are limited to how many quests you can take in a day, and you can only take one at a time, but really you aren’t going to run out of things to do. I don’t remember how they work in Rune Factory 5 as that’s the one I’ve played the least of. (This is a lie I only just caught! Rf5 is still the one I’ve played least recently.)

There is no penalty for not sleeping in these games. You have a sleeping skill that goes up when you sleep, and it fully restores your health and stamina. But you don’t technically need to. It would be a hindrance if you did because some of the later dungeons are so big you’ll spend a couple days in them the first time through.

There are plants and crystals out in the fields and dungeons that respawn every day that refill your stamina (technically Rune Points but who’s counting) Your crops can also make rune orbs when you harvest them. They can also make runeys, which are spirits that randomly level up one of your stats. (Again I don’t remember if these are in RF5) Baths are also dirt cheap. Money is not an object in Rune Factory after like the first season.

You have a diary in all 3 games. And there are save points outside of all the Dungeons. I’m pretty sure RF5 also lets you save wherever. I think it has autosave too?

Rune Factory 3’s tutorial is a little handholdy in the very beginning if I remember correctly? But it only lasts a day I think? Rune Factory 4 has a very brief one and all the rest of the tutorial type stuff is handled in requests. I do not remember what it’s like in rf5.

As for the progression! Story progression unlocks new areas and dungeons to explore. Not only that! All of the games systems connect to eachother. Rf4 does it the best but all 3 games do it well. Leveling up your farming skills raises your stats and RP, which you’ll while exploring the dungeons. You’ll need food or healing potions in the dungeons which you’ll want to cook because food is expensive which means you’ll need to farm and tame monsters! To raise your monsters stats to take on adventures with you you’ll need to feed them upgrade crafting materials, which you’ll need to get from dungeons. But for the dungeons you’ll need to get gear! Just like food you can buy it or craft it. Good gear is expensive. To craft gear you need materials from dungeons and your farm. I just really love in RF4 specifically how well the systems work together. You really can engage with them as much or as little as you like.

You start out with storage that you can upgrade when you need more space. You’ll also be able to buy more specific storages later in the game (refrigerator, weapons rack, bookshelf etc) you also start of with a much larger rucksack. (It’s driving me crazy right now in fields of mistria how small the starting inventory is. The only games I’ve played that are as bad or worse are the original more friends of mineral town where you only have TWO slots for forageables in the beginning and stardew valley where the first bag upgrade is cheap) RF4 definitely pulls from your storage when crafting, I can’t imagine this isn’t a feature in RF5 and I honestly do not remember if it is or not in RF3.

NPCs all get unique dialogue the day before and event, and NPCs will tell you about upcoming birthdays if their friends or family with whoever’s birthday it is. They even give you gift ideas. (I’m pretty sure they do in RF3 and they 100% do in RF4 and 5)

Also adding on! The biggest reason I do not like Stardew is I think all of the characters are super boring. It’s why I ended up buying mistria, I heard that the characters are super fun and have a TOOOOONNN of dialogue. And they do! Rune factory is the same way. Not a single rune factory character is normal they are all weirdos and they have SO MUCH to say. Sometimes mini events will happen where everyone in town is talking about something that happened the day before, like someone baking some really terrible cookies or the bath water being hotter than usual which sounds incredibly mundane but it’s so funny. I find that the non-romanceable NPCs will repeat dialogue sometimes, but not terribly often. And the marriage candidates rarely so. Of course the writing isn’t going to be for everybody but I just love all of the Rune Factory characters.

Rune factory 4 is the first one you can play a girl in (technically 3rd? 2 you can be a girl in the second half of the game, but you’re a kid. And I think Tides of Destiny let’s you after you beat the game? But I haven’t played that one so I don’t know how it works) Rune Factory 5 is the first one you can be gay in. (There’s a work around for this in rf4 but you need a save game+) they are all great games but RF4 is probably the best one.

OK sth I really, really love about fields of mistria is how accessible it is for an adhd hoarder that also forgets everything and what I was doing in like 5 minutes, like myself

the map has npc locations by default! so even if their schedule changes, you can always find them!

quests never expire! you can work on them at your own pace, and even hold onto one's that require a seasonal item that you didn't have enough of before the season was up, until the season rolls around again!

they don't take your damn money or items when you pass out or die because you lost track of time or are bad at combat!

there's free soup in the tavern that restores a little stamina, and a fountain behind a breakable boulder that does the same! the baths are also pretty cheap, and you even get a few free usages after a certain quest!

it starts with storage in your house, AND! anything you had in said storage can be used for crafting without having to go and retrieve it!

if you don't know where to get an item for a quest, talking to various npcs can tell you where it is!

if you need a certain item for the museum collection, you can check out hints on where to get those in the museum itself! and every item that can go in the museum has a tooltip when you over over it, to tell you if you have already donated it or not!

items don't despawn! you can just toss stuff on the floor and come back for it later when you have the inventory space!

if you forget to check your calendar, that's fine! the npcs will tell you about any upcoming events a few times before it arrives, and the start of a new day will tell you if it's someone's birthday!

they give you tutorials in a narrative way, gradually introducing new systems and mechanics as you progress! and these are done via quests that you can go and complete whenever you're ready!

the village progression gives you plenty of rewards and things to help you with your farm, which is very encouraging to keep at it!

the upgrade system just builds up along with doing normal tasks like farming! and you can spend these points however, whenever you like, with many being available right from the start! and you can have all of them if you want, so no need to worry about indecision!

you can go to your diary at home and save whenever you like, and even make another one so you can place them in other areas!

little heart notifications pop up over npc's heads when you progress the relationship, so you have a quick reference on how close you are!

every friday (and saturday after you fix the bridge), all the npcs are in the same place! this makes chatting to everyone and handing out gifts easier if you have trouble remembering to do so!

you have to hold down the button to eat an item! so you don't accidentally poison yourself!

other accessibility options ive really been appreciative of are: being able to turn off rain/snowfall, flashing, screenshake ect. for those with sensitivity, sight, or neurological issues that don't play well with those.

well hello.  been a few weeks.

Yesterday was my one year divorce anniversary.  amazing how the year has gone by so quickly.

The World cup has been INSANE, especially today’s games.  my heart today, o.m.g. LOL

My mom is on a trip with a tour group to Mexico and is having the absolute best time!  my sis and i split the cost of the trip to treat her for her 75th bday.  it was totally affordable that i was worried they were going to be staying in cockroach infested hotels, but it’s absolutely no the case and i’m so relieved.

found out my ex is “in a relationship” with someone from facebook.  i’m intrigued/vaguely nosy curious feeling but at the same time, don’t care about it in a care about him kind of way.  i more was thinking to myself how is it that i can’t even bring myself to think about trying to date and meet people and this mofo is already FB status in a relationship with someone and also on fucking facebook which he didn’t want to use before and didn’t have any social media.  ok whatever.  should i be ready by now?  it just all seems so daunting and like so much effort and really just like gambling... and you hardly ever win big when you gamble.  ugh i dunno.

had a big fight with Leo that exploded into work.  we got through it, but it was a lot of drama and waste of energy.

lastly, i lost my Alley cat on 11/19.  she was 18 years old.  she’d been getting thinner.... she was always a skinnier cat, she was never more than 7ish pounds even when she was younger.  but i brought her in cause she had a cold on 8/27 and she was only 5 pounds.  she got better after her cold but i know she wasn’t eating well still, even with giving her appetite stimulant.  I brought her in to the vet on 11/17 because the night before she was kind of out of it... like wobbly and not aware of where she was.  and she had tried to jump up to her food counter and she fell.  and when she fell she just lay there.  just lay there where she fell, the poor thing.  brings me to tears just remembering...

the vet said there was really nothing more to do for her.  they gave her some fluids and a b12 shot and a steroid shot to see if that could help pep her up.   but really it was just buying me time to realize i had to say goodbye.  i texted the ex to let him know she wasn’t doing well.  he said he’d be in town in dec and if she was still around he’d ask to say good bye.  i said i don’t think she has that long but i’ll let you know.  the vet is closed on fridays so i thought i’d be able to bring her in to our regular vet on Saturday when they opened.  of course they have this whole come sign up to get in to see them type thing so there was no guarantee they could see me right away... anyways that night she slept in the bed (per usual in her older age) and it was the worst sleep of my life.  i could tell she wasn’t doing well, so i had my hand on her nearly the whole time to make sure she was still breathing.  i kept praying to ask God to give me a sign of what i should do. at some point i fell asleep and then i was so scared cause i realized there was something heavy leaning on me (stella) instead of alley and i panicked, but she had just crawled a little ways away but was curled up sleeping.   fell back asleep a little bit but then i heard a thump.  she had fallen off the bed.   i rushed to get up and turn on the light and there she was just laying where fell again :(.   so i picked her up, laid her back on the bed and then got dressed, i felt like that was my sign.  

i brought her to the emergency vet and she passed in my arms at about 440 in the morning.  tbh they had this whole room with couches and kleenex that was dimly lit and a whole system for saying goodbye that it was a way better experience than if i had made it to our regular vet.  (yet super expensive ugh) they let you do all the paperwork and payment stuff while you’re waiting.  they took her in the back and put an iv in.  then they took me to the nice room to explain what would happen next.  they would bring her to me, i could spend as much time with her as i wanted.  then when i was ready i’d push a button and the dr would come.  the doctor was just the kindest angel.  i don’t know how they can take seeing the pain from everyone.  but i guess they know that only that much grief can come from great love.  then when i was ready, she gave the first injection to make her sleepy.  then when i was ready again she gave her the injection that stopped her heart.  she listened for her heart.  then she said i could stay as long as i wanted with her again.  and when i was ready to go i would push this button thing again and someone would come to take her away.  she was in my arms the whole time.  she was ready.

her ashes came back the day before thanksgiving and because it’s an emergency vet, i was able to pick her up on thanksgiving day.

I took my mom to see Pentatonix and Girl Named Tom on 12/1 before her trip.  they were both SO AMAZING.

I didn’t make it into the Chicago Marathon via lottery so I joined a charity team. I just gotta raise 1750 by 10/1/2023.  Oh, and train for a fucking marathon.  good luck to me lol.

Another one who whisks you away to spend the day with him. However, doing this is not different from Leona's day-to-day. ever since you began dating your attendance in class has plummeted. Once he's got you in his grasp, there is no escape.

To many it appears as if he's forgotten. No one can even think to invite you for a celebration because he has you locked in his room. You are absolutely not allowed to leave unless he comes with, which isn't going to happen. He has his own bathroom, and Ruggie can bring any food you want to eat.

Leona is...much more clingy. Which is concerning since he already hands on you like a second skin. Almost like he's jealous?

Like Ace, Leona thinks that you should be spending the day at his side. If anyone else wants to do something troublesome like a party than it can be another day, but this one is all his. He's a bit gruff about it, but anything you want he gives so long as you stay with him.

Want to watch a movie? Alright, but he's napping. Video games? Cool, he'll watch. Read a book? Do it aloud so he can listen. Nap? He'll be your pillow just this once. Hungry? Name it and Ruggie will get it.

He will even let you use the Savanaclaw spa bath. Just go on in and he'll guard the door for a bit. Don't take too long though or he'll think you passed out from the steam (passes off this worry as not wanting to wait too long).

He has two gifts to give you. One is from Cheka, and it is a hand-drawn card with some candies. The next is from Leona himself, and is a beaded choker like the one that he wears.

"What? Did you think I forgot? Tsk. I'm not so stupid to forget my lover's birthday. Do not forget that you are mine, which makes today a day for me too...Happy Birthday,"

Ruggie Bucchi

Ruggie keeps things simple by nature. Intimate, even. He cooks for you what his grandmother does for him: donuts.

Regardless if you like them or not, Ruggie finds a way to cater them to your pallet. They are his favorite food, and what his grandmother has made for every single one of his birthdays. He even uses her recipe. The dish is special, and so are you.

It is not difficult for Ruggie to find out your birthday through the grapevine. A little gossip here and there travels fast, so if you were to forget yourself rest assured that he will remember. He gathers the ingredients and is quick to whip up a batch during the night when the communal kitchen is empty. He only makes enough for you both to share, not even Leona geta a taste. The lion in question also does not give Ruggie any tasks on the day of your birthday.

He teases you, acting as if he forgot before pulling out the tray of treats. He holds them just out of your reach while doing his cheeky hyena laugh. Telling you to be patient and go wait in the courtyard for him.

In truth, he's really nervous. Watching you take the first bite and painstakingly waiting for your reaction. Only when you let out a hum of approval does he relax, and begin to relish in his own serving.

When you finish he pulls out another surprise. A silk bandana, golden with brown tassel on the trim. It's decorated with red, purple, and brown beads as well. Very...expensive looking.

Ruggie is all about budgeting and maximizing outputs. Yet, for once he wanted to give you something meaningful. He took on multiple extra part-time jobs and cashed in many favors to afford it. Giving it to you feels surreal, yet it makes him extremely happy

"Shshshsh, weren't expectin' that were ya? You better take good care of that or we're going to have problems. I expect to see it on you every day or else all my hard work will have gone down the drain. Fore real though, Happy Birthday,"

Jack Howl

Such a ray of sunshine. He wants your special day to be perfect in every way and for you to live it to the fullest. How does he go about this, you ask? Well, it's simple.

He becomes the school's errand boy in your stead. It's too much for him to expect that the school will give you one day of relaxation, so Jack takes it upon himself to ward off any signs of trouble before it can arise

It somehow makes him respect you more? He already held you in high regard for dealing with your fair share of daily bullshit, but having to do it in your place really put things into perspective. The entire day feels like he is on babysitting duty compared to being a student.

Honestly? He's so done. There is only so much one person can take and you must be a saint for putting up with Grimm for longer than an hour.

Yet when Jack says that he'll do something, he does it. If he promised you a day off then you are getting one no matter how hard he has to work. Even if that means he won't see you for the whole day...

When all is said and done, he's exhausted. You'll catch him making a poor attempt at not dragging his feet and failing. He's so tired that he can't even make it back to his dorm, and you force him to spend the night at Ramshackle. On the couch, of course. He isn't delirious enough to agree to sharing a bed...the thought alone spikes his adrenaline.

He may not have been around for most of the celebrating, but Jack still wants that quality time with you. His present was acting as errand boy, but what truly makes the day special is sharing leftover cake together before bed. Jack is normally an early-sleeper, so since you have him up it's best to make the most of it. Cuddling in front of the fireplace and sharing a piece of cake sounds perfect, yeah?

"It's good that you had a chance to relax. I'm sorry for not being around much today, but certain people wouldn't stop making messes. How do you do this everyday?! A/N: Idk if this has been done before but I wanted to give my take on this. Recently I found out my love language is gift giving and it changed my perspective on myself a bit. You can take the same quiz I took here to find out what yours is! :)

Lucifer

Words of Affirmation. He's the avatar of pride, so it's very important to him that his partner vocalizes their feelings about him as long as they truly mean what they're saying. When he's alone with you after a long day of paperwork and trouble from his brothers, there's nothing more he wants than to hear you tell him that you love him and that he can finally relax. Quality Time with you is also very important to him- please share a seat on the piano bench with him and have a glass of expensive demonus while he plays for you.

This one might seem obvious as well, but Mammon's love language is Gift Giving! Quality Time is Levi's primary love language with Words of Affirmation coming in at a close second. Levi is constantly holing himself up in his room and doubting himself, so he needs some good company and gentle reassurance that you love him just the way he is. He very much enjoys gaming with you, laying on the floor next to each other watching anime together, and on rare occasions, just talking with one another while staring at his giant fish tank. He likes just being near you, even more so when you tell him your honest feelings and it's just the two of you.

And despite how much he's always getting touchy with others, Asmo is actually quite touch starved and lonely deep down. Beel's love languages are both Acts of Service and Gift Giving. Similar to Mammon, he's always on the lookout for things that remind him of you when out and about. But instead of jewelry, clothes, or trinkets, he likes to gift you food and snacks. He has all your favorite foods memorized and knows whether you'll want something sweet, salty, or savory whenever you go out. He also likes to take care of things for you and loves to help you out with things whenever he can. Can't reach a shelf? He's got it covered. Need someone to open a jar? He's right there and willing. Need some advice about something? He's listening attentively. It means the world to him that you would share your food or make something just for him.

Belphegor

Another one who's love language is Quality Time. If Belphie had it his way, he would spend his whole day curled up in your lap. Just being in the same room as you is comforting to him. That's to say, Physical Touch is also a very prominent love language of his. He appreciates when you run a hand through his hair and give him a scalp massage, and in turn he'll wrap his own arms around you and snuggle up like you're his favorite pillow. For you, he'll try his best to stay awake so he can spend time together doing things you both love. Or if it's a lazy day you want, he's more than happy to do just that!

Nosy ass Family Elder starts asking about Grandbabies and Marriage🤦🏾‍♀️ He simply says that Marriage is definitely in the cards for the future and maybe Babies too but he's wants to wait a little longer because his job makes him travel a lot and you deserve a husband who always gonna be there🥺

When the dinner festivities has ended the Uncles invite him to watch the game with them, He impressed them with the fact he can hold his liquor so well; Everybody else is drunk while Nanami is slightly buzzed

When you arrive at your folks place Gojo is holding your bags and ready to Greet them like old friends

He knows he's very charming and is going to make a good impression easily either way

He is rather bummed about sleeping in a separate room from you but he will get over it

Keeps his sunglasses on but you already told your folks that he's sensitive to light and not he's trying to hide his Pretty eyes, So they don't take it as disrespect

At the Dinner tho shit gets mad serious, He wants all the food and will ask you for three plates for him to eat in one sitting (With his Greedy ass)

When the Nosy ass Family Elder start asking Questions about why there isn't any babies with y'all Gojo Quickly replied "it's not because of The lack of Trying"🤷🏾‍♀️ OOPS (Aunties and Uncles SHOOK)

Gojo doesn't Join the uncles to watch the ball game because he doesn't want to risk get plastered

He will find you and go hunting for a quiet space in the house for some Alone time but the moment he’s comfortable he's falling asleep because his belly is too full

Hell no Toji doesn't want to go but will because he cares for you and this is something important to you

Is Grumpy the whole time you're traveling, He doesn't have a great relationship with his own family and Really isn't about all this but he's trying

Effortlessly carry y'all bags into your old room before one of your family members asked him is y'all married? No? Well you gotta sleep in separate bedrooms then

Toji is pissed. You help him sleep better and he can't fully grasp why your family are pulling y'all apart. It's because of Respect? He has seen you naked more than he can count and the things he has done with you would make your family try to jump him if they knew.

He begrudgingly takes the guest room but he's not happy

The first thing he do when he unpacked is checked your room windows and the room he's staying in windows, Then he hides his weapons in the guest room because he'll be damned if he's caught slipping

Mans Really is quiet. your family is surprised at how quiet he walks plus his fast reflexes got them questioning shit

He stays in the guest room for the most part and only comes out when he's called for dinner

Fix his own plate last because he doesn't want people judging what he picks

His lips stay together until one of the uncles ask him what is his profession which Toji replied "I'm a traveling contractor" Now everybody is curious, The same uncle asked him how much that pays which Toji simply replied couple of thousands per contract ( Aunties, Cousins and parentals alike going😳)

Toji is back to being quiet until the Nosy ass family elder fixed their lips to ask Toji about babies🤦🏾‍♀️ He quickly replied that he's allergic to children (One of your cousins had the audacity to say that's code word for Deadbeat Dad Boo) Toji is not pleased.

After Dinner he Bonds with the uncles over football even tho he doesn't care for liquor he still had hella fun

At night Toji will sneak into your room to have some X rated fun with you and your family will never know that he even was there

Meeting your Family? Being included in the festivities? Sukuna is delighted that you would include him in all this BUT Yuuji has objections

Yuuji doesn't trust Sukuna in a new environment so Yuuji will be the face of the whole operation

Yuuji is the perfect soft boyfriend that your folks thinks you deserve (If they only knew)

Introduction go so well and He doesn't say anything when a they mention a separate room for you two

He offer a helping hand In the kitchen and help set the table all while Sukuna is Raging in his head

Dinner goes beautifully, Yuuji get his plate fixed with your help at explaining the foods

He sits with the uncles for a little bit and watch the game but he soon go to his room for some rest

Right When your family is either asleep or went to their own places Sukuna will lurk and hunt you out.

He's silent as he opens your door and wakes you gently, his claws slightly scratching your arms while his eyes stares intently into your own sleepy eyes..... I am Hungry My pet, The brat promised me a feast and I've been oh so patient Sukuna says deeply yet quietly

With your assistance he gets to Gorge himself on the left overs, what I am sayings is that there wasn't any leftovers when he got done lmao

Sukuna get you in a lot of trouble if you fall for his seduction so be prepared to get caught By the parentals because The King of Curses always give you something that makes it hard for you be quiet😉

You guys were taking an after-school stroll, the weather was really nice, it would be a shame if you two just went home and did nothing. Walks like these tend to get sentimental and nostalgic, so your conversation subconsciously started to drift towards school life.

"And do you remember that time we had to get kuboyasu, kaido, and nendo to play on a baseball team? Oh my god thank god it didn't go too poorly, that one player really pulled through at the end..." you laughed out

after he explained to you he and kaido's crepe disaster, you couldn't help but tease fun at him for a bit

but you did agree to teach him more about cooking and baking

he's a bit too passionate about cracking eggs, but hey, at least you can work faster

after many, many burnt crepes and pans, there it was, a fallen appart, incorrectly folded, but still a properly cooked crepe sat there in all its beauty

Although he does learn many different things with you, crepes will be the thing he makes over and over again, even when he has it down to a science, just because it's the first thing you taught him, and he will keep that sweet memory forever (get it. sweet? Cause crepes? Im funny i swear.)

He actually knows how to cook pretty well

He's not really sure when he picked up cooking, its kinda just stuck around, but he enjoys it, it makes him seem more goody

and he can treat you :)

I will die on my "aren lives for the most basic/domestic activities hill"

cooking with him is always an experience, he will play music in the background, and pull you aside to dance at random times

also does that really hot thing where he stands behind you, reaches around to hold your hands, and basically has you in a cage while showing you how to do something

it's one of those spontaneous things to do, if there's nothing else to do, might as well make something to eat

firm believer in "if you have to eat to live, you might as well eat delicious foods" so he will always try out new things with you if its healthy and tasty

"bab look at this show" you called out from where you were sitting, there was a cooking show/food documentary on, and it was showing a special food. "it says this chicken has a secret sauce they dip it in"

he walked over to the tv and watched it for a couple seconds, thinking a bit.

will you ever know if you got the secret sause? Nope, but you did figure out a chicken recipe that is good as hell

he probably writes down all the recipes you "invented" together for safekeeping and so he can return to it later, but he refuses to show it to anyone

as much as I love him, we all saw in that one episode how picky he is while eating, and is probably a bitch to please while cooking/baking

so after a lot of convincing, you got him to sit in the kitchen with you so he can watch you bake for the two of you

in reality, all you have to do is give the dish a fancy rich-sounding name, you just have to be really careful with what you say
