This topic seems to be most confusing for those with #tummytroubles - do I go #lowfodmap or #glutenfree to end my #bloating #abdominalpain and #pooproblems? 🤔💩 • The answer isn't exactly straight forward - whether or not you need either of these diets, or a combination of both, will depend on your diagnosis. Those needing a #glutenfreediet i.e. those with #celiacdisease with #IBSsymptoms need a #glutenfreediet for life, to avoid risk of intestinal damage related to gluten ingestion. Diagnosis of celiac disease is done by a doctor. Those needing a #lowfodmapdiet should have a diagnosis of #irritablebowelsyndrome by their doctor. Getting the right diagnosis will help determine which diet you should follow to help you manage your symptoms. Gluten is the protein found in wheat, rye, barley, oats, triticale, and in many packaged food products containing these ingredients. #FODMAPs are carbohydrates, and while they are found in wheat, rye, barley and in many packaged food products, they are also found in many legumes, fruits, vegetables and dairy products and nut 'milks'. • If you come across a food product labelled 'gluten free' and 'low FODMAP', make sure you keep an eye out for certification logos on product packaging to make an informed choice - the @coeliacaus endorsement logo and @monashfodmap @fodmapfriendlyfoodprogram logos are ones to keep an eye out for, as their presence means the food has been tested and returned 'no' (gluten) or 'low' (fodmap) results. • ✔A good example of food products which tick both gluten free and low FODMAP boxes are the @scharglutenfree @monashfodmap certified range.
