do you mind me asking about the blackberry dumplings? our blackberry bush drops a shitload of berries every year and I'm always looking for more ways to use them besides jam. 👀
Yea! They're a traditional cherokee dish along with grape and strawberry dumplings.
They're basically southern style dumplings cooked in blackberry like. Juice i guess. So I boil the blackberries in some water and maybe mash them up a bit. I added some sugar this time too. I don't really use measurements and so I've just been winging it and trying to figure out what works haha. I cut some cold butter into my flour with a pinch of baking powder, then add some of the blackberry juice [or water] and knead it together. I prefer a stiffer dough that I roll out and cut, I've seen some recipes where they make looser drop dumplings. Then cook the dumplings in the blackberries and let it reduce to a syrup and serve over vanilla ice cream !
So far I haven't figured out exactly how I like it so I'm tweaking the way I do em p much every time.
Here's a video demonstration of making grape dumplings and it's a similar process, just with the cooked blackberries.

not to flex but i made chicken noodle soup at work tonight and my coworker told me "it tastes like a grandma made it, not some 20 year old man. it tastes like love and thats crazy" and thats like. the nicest thing anyones ever said to me about my cooking. i could weep rn.
#my post#the love she was tasting was the garlic infused olive oil i caramelized the onions in btw. and the dumplings.#btw my grandmas dumpling recipe is 3 egg. 1/4 cup milk. mix w fork and then slowly add 2 cups flour continuing to mix every 4th cup added.#i put garlic salt and some chives in my dumplings today and used corn flour. just immaculate.

there's also the one time some white europeans were in the comment section of a video tearing an american apart for calling pierogi pierogi and I was like "yeah we do actually call those that we have a ton of immigrants literally never heard them called anything but that" and then they all dogpiled ME saying we call them dumplings & saying I was being us-centric and silencing them. when they were talking. about the us. and calling this poor girl a moron for using a word we all use here. like. literally never met a more smug group of people in my life than white europeans.

Green Chicken and Dumplings
Heart-warming and flavourful, these lemon-y Green Chicken and Dumplings make good use of chicken carcasses and a comforting dinner on a cold Autumn night!
Ingredients (serves 3):
2 raw (preferably free-range) chicken carcasses, with meat on the bones
2 fluffys sprigs Garden Rosemary
2 sprigs fresh thyme
2 bay leaves
1/2 tablespoon coarse sea salt
1/2 tablespoons whole black peppercorns
2 1/2 litres/10 cups water
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion
1 large lemon
9 beautiful Garden Green Beans (I have grown more fat deep purple Blauhilde beans this year, which turn green once cooked!)
3 "cubes" frozen spinach
1 1/2 cup plain flour
1 heaped teaspoon baking powder
1 heaped teaspoon dried oregano
a pinch of salt
about 3/4 cup water
Place chicken carcasses in a large pot with Rosemary and thyme sprigs, bay leaves, coarse sea salt and black pepper. Cover with the water, and bring to the boil over a high flame.
Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-low, cover with a lid, and simmer, one hour and a half, until you have a beautifully fragrant broth.
Lift carcasses from the pot, onto a cutting board and allow them to cool completely. Filter chicken broth through a fine mesh sieve; set aside.
Rinse and dry pot.
Heat olive oil in the pot, over medium-high heat.
Peel and finely chop onion. Add to the pot, and fry, about 3 minutes, until softened, stirring often.
Remove the meat from the cooled chicken carcasses, chop roughly, and stir into the pot. Cook, a couple of minutes.
Thoroughly squeeze in the juice of the whole lemon, to deglaze, and add the emptied lemon halves to the pot.
Stir in reserved chicken broth, and brig to the boil.
Rinse, top and tail Garden Green Beans, and stir them into the pot. Cook, 5 minutes. Add frozen spinach "cubes", and cook, 5 minutes more.
Meanwhille, prepare dumplings. In a medium bowl combine flour, baking powder, dried oregano and salt. Then, gradually stir in water (you may not need all of it) until you have a smooth batter.
Spoon heaped tablespoons of the dumpling mixture into the pot. You should have about 9. Cover with the lid, and cook, a further 5 minutes, flipping dumplings half-way through.
Serve Green Chicken and Dumplings wery hot!

I never liked to travel and i dont have much drive to see new places, like the pictures are ok with me for the most part. But if i had a way to travel id do it for food. Like if i was a dnd character and i had to have a motivation to go adventuring itd be trying different foods... it blows my mind how many ingredients ill never get to try
#barking#this post was prompted by youtube recommending me a vid of someone freezing marshmallow paste#i have always wanted to avoid a situation of being in america but that made me think like damn. i would go to try the food there#not that i cant get my hands on some marshmallow fluff i prolly could but theres a lot of stuff... steak bagel ect ect#we have bagels here but like you know what i mean#and well obviously not a day goes by where i wouldnt sell my kidney to be able to go to china#im trying to figure out so often if there will ever be a situation again where my mom ends up at a chinese airport#id cry with joy. id weep. i miss those jars she brought back so much#i would straight up fly to an airport do shopping and then just go back. itd be worth it for me#and well theres so much stuff. just all the vegetables and fruits and flours youll never try#you can go to a chinese restaurant but it wont ever be the same. like when my mom was telling me about the dumplings she ate in tibet...#the fresh shrimp in spain...#PROSCIUTTO IN ITALY i was fortunate to try that one. heaven on earth.#politically i believe in keeping the produce reagional as much as possible yanno icould survive without being able to buy avocado every day#bad avocado at that. id just love to be able to go and try it yanno in holand is where mine grows!#but i could get my ass over to america for it too#holland. i meant netherlands.
