Investigations 1 Official Anthology Manga - Volume 3

This is the 74th post in the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection Countdown: 7 days left until release!

Today's topic: the Investigations 1 Official Anthology Manga (Volume 3)!

It's truly incredible that there are three (!) entire anthology comics dedicated to the first Investigations alone! All with completely different stories and everything. And they're awesome, all of them! I'm so happy that I was able to get them all, it wasn't easy!

The "third" one is quite different from the "first" and "second" one in that only the beginning contains the usual short stories of a few pages' length while most of the rest is filled with very short little comics (called "4koma" = 4 panels). The narrative is still set around the cases of the game and character shenanigans but due to the 4koma nature the focus is much more on humour and jokes and less on emotional interactions. In that context I prefer the other two a little bit more but that doesn't mean this one is bad. On the contrary, all the little comics are a lot of fun to read and look at and there are some truly hilarious ideas! There are also some coloured artworks again! They're so good!

Like with the previous two, I'm going to highlight some of my favourite panels:

When you want to give a cool quote from your ancestor but you accidentally read your grocery list instead (Blushing Shi-Long is so adorable! I love him!)

And you thought the Proto Badger was terrifying...

A bonding photoshoot with your partner! (Just ignore that he's dead...)

Gumshoe tries a new method to deepen his work relationship with Miles (Miles does not approve)

Shi-Long can't resist going on some of the rides in the amusement park (Look at him on that bear thing! He looks so adorable! I just want to cuddle him!)

Apparently Shi-Long has a sweet tooth - awww!

Miles comes to the haunting realization that people around him keep dying...

And I have no idea why but here Shi-Long prompts Kay to put Miles in a dress for the Little Thief re-creation where he gets attacked? Uhm... Okay 😄 (Miles was not amused but Shi-Long seems entirely unfazed)

Additionally, this volume has some special extras towards the end. There's an interview with the people involved but my truly favourite part is a discussion on what a usual working day and a usual free day look like for Miles and Shi-Long! Including some wonderful illustrations! Of course, none of this is canon (obviously) but that won't stop me from integrating whatever I can into my headcanon! Highlights include:

Miles reading the papers every morning while he's relaxing with a cup of tea

Miles sorting his files with Gumshoe's help (who carries everything, of course)

Miles reading in bed at the end of the day to relax

Shi-Long regularly treating his subordinates to some drinks and celebrating the successful ends of cases together

Shi-Long training hard even on his free days to maintain his physique (I appreciate it~! He's just too badass for normal push-ups.)

And the wildest one: Shi-Long has a white tiger who he can cuddle with while reading his case files (I love this one just for that amazing art alone! Also really appreciate Shi-Long's look without his jacket on~)

There are good things left in the world

Today I took a short day trip with my parents to a farm town in Indiana.

Today in that town, I sat beside two elderly gentlemen who were discussing politics. They were fussing at each other about how they wished Harris had won, and how they wished voters wouldn't just vote straight ticket but would actually look at politicians and decide what's actually best for them instead of which candidate was "their" party. Which is not what I expected to hear from old rural folks, but it brought me a smile.

Today, I got to eat soft pretzels from TWO different soft pretzel joints, and they were both delicious.

Today, I got rainbow color-shifting glasses for drinking water.

Today I got an entire bag of cereal marshmallows - you know, the kind you would get in Lucky Charms or something - for less than a box of cereal.

I also got 2lbs of Fruity Whirls cereal for less than $3, and spent the next few minutes saying "Fruity Whirls" as many times as could fit into the conversation.

Today, my dad asked me to ask me mom to tell me about The Jays. She starts trying to tell me whatever this story is, but she can't. She is trying to get words out but she's immediately overcome, wheeze laughing, and my dad is trying to help her, but he's wheeze laughing, and through the tears of laughter and gasping breaths, I find out that the last time they were at this particular store, my mother found a bag of small candies (gummies? sugar candies? unclear) that she thought was alphabet candy, and she turned to my father and says to him "It's only J's??" in confusion. It was candy canes.

Today I found a bar of soap that smelled EXACTLY like fresh lilac blooms. My mom bought it for her best friend, who absolutely loves lilacs.

Today I saw a small, beautiful Cardinal pin, with the words "one day at time" scrawled across the top.
