It took several seasons over a few years... starting with S10 and ending in S13.... but Death In Paradise gave viewers a proper ending to the love story of Florence & Neville. 💗

He fell in love with her during S10 and when he confessed his feelings in S11, she told him that saw him as just a friend. Or so she thought. Still grieving her fiancé who was murdered in S8, Florence went in to witness protection partway through S11 after an undercover sting and emerged again towards the end of S13 in which she admitted that she missed Neville more than she thought she would and realized her feelings for him were deeper than she initially understood them to be. Florence & Neville sailed off together after a reunion hiccup to travel the world on an adventure and build a foundation as something more. 🥰 The Floreville shipper in me was happy that they got a HFN / HEA send off together from the show after years of build up.

There are a ton of people that seem to be against or disappointed in the prospect of a Neville/Florence relationship in DIP, and I really don't get it.

I understand the show's LGBTQ+ rep is far and few between, but headcanoning either/both of them as queer isn't negated by their potential romance. You can be in an opposite sex relationship and still be queer - bi/pan/demi/ace people exist and are inherently queer regardless of the gender of the person they're dating.

There are two ways that I could see Death in Paradise going, because I’m not over what happened in last weeks episode. I might’ve put way too much thought into these ides...

1. Neville and Florence have an argument. Both want things to go back to the way they were before but they know that this’ll never happen. Eventually Neville makes the decision to leave the island. He knows that it’s unfair on both of them if he stays (for him because he wants more then friendship and Florence because he’d never force her to change her mind)

Florence then spends the next episode slowly coming to terms with what is happening. She’s going to lose her best friend, the person who despite not knowing him for that long she can’t imagine her life without (sue me, I’m a romantic at heart).

Then something happens to either Florence or Neville. My money is on Neville as we’ve already had Florence get shot in an earlier series. With Neville in hospital and/or out of action in general she ends up having a heart-to-heart with either Catherine or the Commissioner. One (or both) tells her that it’s ok for her to move on.

2. Remember how Neville mentioned in a previous episode about a girl he dated for several years (I think he said years, I can’t remember the exact time). Well, she makes a surprise visit to the island and isn’t a murder suspect! Well, turns  out that they broke up on amicable terms and spend an evening catching up in Catherine’s bar. The team turns up and is surprised to see Neville with someone. They’re even more surprised when they find out she’s his ex.

Florence and Catherine talk. Florence is happy that Neville is moving on and that things can go back to the way they were before. Catherine can tell that Florence is lying and gives her one of Her Looks.

Florence slowly comes to terms with the fact that maybe her feelings were slightly more then just friendly. She’s afraid of moving on and if it is too soon.  During the series finale we have a scene that copies that of series 10. Catherine encouraging Florence to go to the shack and tell Neville how she really feels.
