What humans often fail to realize is that floods have a number of benefits to the environment and wildlife.  In many cases they are vital events plants and animals have evolved to live with and in some cases depend on for survival.  They are also inevitable and are going to get worse as we continue to pump CO2 and methane into the atmopshere.
