Have not been on here nearly as much as I used to-outside of my job I've been working very hard on my next cosplay build: Electra from starlight express
This is the most complex costume I've ever made, but I'm very pleased with what I have so far!
Tumblr media
Still have a lot of ways left to go! But it's been extremely rewarding seeing things piece together so nicely
Write-up and WIP photos under cut
The very first thing I started with this costume was the bodysuit, it is the foundation that everything will sit upon so it should be out of the way first, and it would be easier to pattern my armour once I know how it will sit in relation to the rest of the costume
I also knew I would be wearing this to a convention and would want to have easy access for the washroom, so I actually turned a full bodysuit pattern into separate leggings and a leotard with a snap crotch closure
Did the leggings first-at first I wanted to be as accurate as possible with a silver chrome foil HTV that I cut on my Cricut machine with the circuit pattern cut out- but I found out after ironing that despite there being all these spaces between the squares that the fabric did not stretch enough to be able to fit(I had made mock-ups for my clothing pieces and those did fit correctly)
Red sections of clothing is turned edge applique done with water soluble stabilizer so it could stretch after throwing it in the wash
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So after that didn't pan out I switched to a stretch HTV, just using the same design files, and widened the legs a bit, it helped a bit but the HTV not only did not stretch enough, but does not like the lycra I was using and in areas with the most stretch the squares were peeling and in some places even falling off
Tumblr media
At this point I had spent almost an entire month on just my leggings-clearly I had to try something else because the HTV was just not going to work
I got jacquard lumiere fabric paint in silver-it's okay if I could go back I'd probably just have gotten angelus leather paint I find it has much nicer stretch and softer feel
I also widened the spaces between my squares to give them a little more stretch, and cut just a full grid of adhesive vinyl to use as a stencil and kept the wider pants pattern from my second pair
I did have to mask off the circuit pattern this way but it came out very nicely and finally had a method that gave me a wearable garment
So I moved onto my leotard next with significantly less headaches- though my arms did not stretch enough after being painted but that was easily remedied with a gusset on the underarm
Collar is interfaced with flexfoam
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since my thigh armour will attach to the belt that was next, honestly pretty easy, mostly rectangles, used real studs and then permanent vinyl for the red and silver bits
Couplers are flexfoam inside a tube of silver pleather, physical belting straps is a thick interfacing covered with the same silver, had to use grommets for the belt holes because it was very frayed when I punched them open
Tumblr media
Tumblr mobile won't let me add more than 10 photos on mobile but for my helmet I duct tape patterned my head and then used 2mm foam covered in worbla, used wood filler and sanded that as much as I could, then covered in a few layers of flexbond and then wet sanded that
Painted with automotive paint to get those little silver flecks, and then painted the colour blocks and covered them with glitter
Still have to add the stripes and chinstrap, and going to be using magnet snaps to attach the Mohawk to the helmet
Tumblr media
That's essentially what I have so far!
I 3D modeled the little arrow thing that goes on the front of the belt and elbows, my brother's going to 3D print them for me 🤭
Started foam patterning this week, my original goal was to have this done by November 7th(leaving for the con I'm taking them to) but again-i did have almost an entire month of setbacks so I'm going to try to not take it too hard if I don't

I needed to buy more pads today and I usually buy the Always ones with flexfoam and I saw today that they had new cotton ones and ones for sensitive skin so I thought I'd try the cotton ones (mint green box) and so far they are softer and even more comfortable than the regular ones. (I switched from the cheaper, bulkier pads because they were making me miserable.)
I've thought about switching to cloth pads but I can see myself forgetting to wash them. I'm going to sleep and I'll let you know how I feel in the morning.

I'm wondering if the type of pad you used was maybe the problem? I used to rarely have leaks but now I never do, even at night. I'm a light flow these days because of my nexplanon implant. I primarily use Always' brand Infinity Flexfoam, which shapes to my body and fits a lot better because of it. When my flow used to be heavier, I'd use the overnight style pads, which are longer at the backend, to prevent more leaks at night. It usually worked fine. I never had a problem with blood pooling onto my thigh or butt crack, tho? I wonder if your underwear wasn't snug enough or if the pad wasn't thick enough when you were younger. I'm primarily a side sleeper but I imagine it's easier if you're a back sleeper. I think having pads with wings also likely prevents it from shifting around too much.
I shower a couple times a week. It used to be more often, but I don't care as much now tbh. If I'm not stinky, I can skip. Doesn't really change much now during a period either, altho if my flow was still as heavy as it used to be, I'd probably shower more. Because of the lighter flow, getting out of the shower isn't difficult either, but when my flow was heavier, I genuinely had a specific dark-colored towel I'd use just to dry off the vaginal area just in case it got stained and would quickly get underwear with a pad back on.
I'm thinking that the brand of pad is probably what made the difference for you.
Ask someone who uses exclusively pads, I can kinda give my answers to your questions. I can't speak for everyone who uses pads, but pads are much more comfortable for me than tampons. I rarely have to deal with spills and leaks with pads, and I'm a very heavy bleeder. I also have no problem sleeping in them. I can't really speak on the shower part, since I have health problems that makes showering difficult, but usually I shower 2 times a week.
This is SUCH a tmi question but what kind of underwear do you wear with them? I found that when I was wearing them I had to wear exclusively granny panties and even then, that the... the crotch... region idfk what it's called, that part, was too narrow (I always have this problem with underwear, does anyone else have this problem?) for the pad to really sit comfortably on it. Please explain pad mechanics to me.
Also, sleeping, how does it work when you sleep, is it easier if you're a back sleeper or a side sleeper, how do you keep the blood from pooling onto a thigh or into a butt crack, do you find the average pad is long enough or do you use those extra long sleep pads I've seen at the stores?
ANYONE can answer these questions btw I'm not just asking this specific anon 30 incredibly invasive questions to punish them for being kind enough to share. X'D I'm just curious because these were problems I ran into basically immediately with pads and caused me to switch to tampons which, yeah, can be kind of uncomfortable.
Also can anyone who uses cups chime in, I'm curious about the cup experience. Does it ever get suctioned in there. What do you do if it does. Is it hard to take out without spilling? How many do you own?

[plumes is super open about it too, and encourages the other members to be. not obnoxious, just a refusal to avoid the subject. tampons and pads are treated with the same level of discretion as toilet paper. being on the rag is a perfectly reasonable excuse not to be down for an activity. that kind of thing. if anyone on property is grossed out or precious about it they're told to suck it up.]
[re: Guzma being comfortable with The Bleed reblog]
Tumblr media
((Yeah, I’d imagine she is lol.  Not obnoxious, but it’s a regular thing that, with their numbers, probably happens every day(disregarding that prolonged exposure tends to cause syncing).  If it was avoided it’d be, well, ignorant. And more annoying than acknowledging that it exists.  And unless youre being real jokey about it, you’d better expect to get the dullest look at any expressions of disgust.  (Despite this, several grunts have had to be scolded for bleeding on others’ things in revenge. That’s unsanitary and rude and we don’t do that.)
The storage rooms have just as many pads, tampons, and heating pads as they do anything else.  If youre going on a run to the store you’d better bring back some supplies for everyone, damn it.  Fear and ignorance are the enemy.  Team Skull ain’t about that.  Unless it’s people fearing them then you can bet they’re about that.))

In honor of Menstrual Hygiene Day, I want to share the contents of my period bag! Every menstruating person should carry one. I just recently put one together this year after 10 years of getting periods and boy, I wish I had done it sooner. When I’m prepared for my period, I feel way more comfortable and clean. Ever been caught by the Red Sea in the middle of a public restroom? Here are some things you can carry with you so that you never have to resort to the toilet paper nest ever again.
1. Emanui Menstrual Cup Cleaner - If you use menstrual cups, you need a cup cleaner. I tried to get into cups before, but they ended up living in my bedroom drawer because emptying them in public was such a disaster. I’ve seen a few by different brands, but none seem to have a design like this one. This cup cleaner not only saves you a lot of mess in public restrooms, but it can also be used to sanitize your cup between uses! If you don’t want to dedicate an entire pot in your kitchen to cup cleaning, just fill Emanui with water and pop it in the microwave for 3 minutes.
2. Saalt Menstrual Cup - This cup. My god. I haven’t experienced any leaks since I started using this brand. I started with the Diva Cup and I could never get it to work for me. It rarely opened and the suction never held up, causing a lot of leaks. I might as well have not been wearing a cup at all. But I enjoy the clean feeling of no pad and not being plugged with cotton, so I took a quiz online to see what cup would be right for me. Three different quizzes paired me with this goddess goblet right here. This shape fits my body perfectly. Saalt also works with WISER, an organization that provides sustainable period products for girls in rural Kenya. This is a big deal. So many young girls in this area don’t have access to proper menstrual products, causing many to miss school or risk infection by attempting to manage their period with unsafe materials. When you buy from Saalt, you support your menstrual health and the menstrual health of girls across the globe. (Crochet pattern: Uterus Menstrual Cup Cozy by Schmeel)
3. Midol and Summer’s Eve Towelettes - There will always be cramps for me. I’ve accepted my fate, but that shouldn’t suggest that I have to endure it drug free. I have also accepted that toilet paper is not enough to feel clean after emptying my cup or changing my pad, so I keep these baby wipes for adults on me.
4. Lola Liners - These are 100% organic cotton pantyliners with plant-based bioplastic and non-toxic adhesive. No fragrances, dyes, or bleach. It’s refreshing to see a brand that doesn’t shove the flowers and pink in my face. Something about the heavy “girl power” narrative that most pad companies use in their commercials/packaging rubs me the wrong way. “Yeah, I’m a girl and yeah, I’m on my period, but I can still do things!” Anyone who menstruates knows they are capable of doing things while they’re on their period. Who is this commercial really for? Not everyone who menstruates identifies as female. Not every person who identifies as female wants their power to be juvenilized or labeled as separate from anyone else’s power. Why not call it “woman power” or just “power”? How many adults requested for their pads to be bright pink with flowers?! That’s something a child would want, right? That’s something a man would design for a woman. I don’t know. Just rubs me the wrong way. Give me plain, solid color wrappers please. Lola is a woman-owned company, by the way.
5. Always Pure Cotton Flexfoam Pads - They’re not flowers, okay? They’re cotton. My previous rant still stands. The flexfoam is amazing. Other pads left me feeling kind of swampy in the pants. Not these. They are also unscented. Who decided to make scented pads in the first place? I keep pads close during my period. The menstrual cup is my main squeeze, but some days are more sensitive than others. Every few cycles, my first day will not facilitate entry under any circumstances. I just don’t feel like stuffing anything up there. That’s where these bad boys come in... or don’t. I haven’t made the transition to period underwear or reusable pads just yet. I need more cleaning information and dinero before I take that leap. In the meantime, I use these.

like i've never been able to use a tampon comfortably and functionally. there are plenty of people who cannot use tampons or prefer not to use them, and they require a good amount of education to be used safely. that's not to say that tampons shouldn't be provided but that we shouldn't be forcing people to use them bc they're all that is offered
also i literally do not care whether you prefer pads or tampons but the fact that in almost every situation where free period supplies are available, they’re tampons, and this is just assumed to be fine (or people like campaigning for “free tampons” rather than “free menstrual products”) upsets me bc there are a lot of people who use pads who cannot use tampons and i don’t understand why tampons are considered not just the default but the only option worth mentioning
