‘louis should go to therapy’ and ‘louis should work on himself’ and ‘louis deserves better than lestat’ are for the boring, conventional yellow bellied normies. i sincerly hope he gets worse. i hope he sells everyone he loves and cares for down the river for lestat’s radioactive dick. i hope he turns into the most predatory vampire akasha accused him of being and i hope he does it with a twinkle in his eyes

star wars outlaws
#star wars outlaws#kay vess#nix#did a brief detour into this game it isn't bad! but certainly lacks in polish for core loops. tutorialization pipelines are ass also#performance - also ass. had to play quality on ps5 for it to have any clarity at all. but the open world is gorgeous#and it certainly nails the very narrow target of horse girl star wars fantasy (ripping across tatooine on a speeder with a little Guy)#nix is everything I love him. modern star wars rarely captivates me but they do know how to do lil guys real well#my photos#star wars#also-also. would be remiss not to mention. never played a game with unregulated scope creep this noticeable before. it's baffling#I KNOW people crunched on this it's in the walls in the floorboards it's everywhere. unmitigated hodge podge of mechanics and pillars#and those pillars are often unbalanced between each other. storytelling payloads are an issue too. there's pre-rendered in-engine cutscenes#real-time in-engine cutscenes. and digic-produced full CG cutscenes. and their placement and prioritization feels insane and inscrutable#like three different teams were working on the game at the same time and never in congress or coordination#it also suffers from the open world 4th and 5th priority narrative payload issues - many secondary and sometimes even primary questgiving#and expository dialogues are in-game zoomed camera lipsync exchanges. or flavor text#on the other hand - surprisingly deft mission design itself? side quests reward either cosmetics or actual unlockable deployable skills#it has fleeting genes of a metroidvania spread across a wide open world in that sense. but only fleeting. the rep system is a smokescreen#and progression in general has a very open and unsatisfying end to it. this game needed less scope and maybe no space stuff at all#the resulting resource allocation adjustment would truly make for a captivating open world adventure. as it stands it feels like#a product of overworked people misusing mismanaged budgets and managing to sprinkle some love into it regardless#games should never be good on the merit of their perceivable seasoning of overwork and passion. that really only bakes a sadness cake

the thing about hakoda to me is that by all rights he should be some dad in cargo shorts and a goofy print short-sleeve button-up shirt in line at the hardware store happily buying supplies for the latest thing he's building in his garage but unfortunately due to genre and colonialism he has be a great Warrior and Leader Of Men. he should be building star wars legos with his son and going on gay little fishing trips with his best buddy but instead he's gotta Lead The Troops in a Noble Fight to Protect their Homeland Against the Evil Empire. he just wants to grill for god's sake but the narrative won't let him

I gotta find a way to keep butch lesbian Socrates calling hot mess femme Alcibiades a good girl in ancient Greek in this play because it's simply too funny to go. I don't know how it will happen but it just has to

one of my biggest issues with new trek is that it keeps trying to make every season of every new show have such a monumental scale that it circles right back around to being irrelevant. there's always a huge evil plot to destroy everything in the universe slash starfleet (and the assumption that starfleet and the federation IS everything ((and that everyone should want to join)) is a whole other debate) and our rag-tag crew of misfits has to save the poor defenseless federation against all odds etc etc..... like i get it, big stakes = big action = big emotion. but it's too big. it's lazy. when "everything" is on the line, characters don't have to justify why they're risking their lives because, duh, it's obvious, they're doing it because they have to etc etc. there's literally no believable alternative in the narrative.
whereas a smaller scale issue (i.e. voyager stuck in the DQ, dealing with the cardassian occupation of bajor, and so on; still big problems to solve! but they don't affect the entire fabric of society) has moral gray areas and also specific goals the main characters should achieve other than just "save everyone in the universe". the characters could and did question their own motives and actions because there wasn't one right answer! the shows were about thinking about what the right answer was!!! how am i supposed to believe that the real treasure was the friends we made along the way if i don't care about the ""way"" in the first place????

Another way for a genderbent Sweeney Todd to make sense would be, of course, to set it in the present. As a Chicago girl I can totally picture a female Sweeney:
Being released from prison (which, particularly in the US, would likely be at least as brutal as a Victorian penal colony)
Setting up shop again above Nestor Loverdos's hot dog joint (slogan: "The Wurst Dogs in Chi-Town!")
Encountering Ms. Pirelli, a former employee who's started her own business selling the haircare equivalent of Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop ("Wigmakers/transplant surgeons hate her!")
Killing Pirelli and in the process driving her perpetually stoned teenage assistant to find work as Mr. Loverdos's new line cook (which would make the scene where fem!Toby discovers her new father figure's secret a bit reminiscent of Marty the stoner in Cabin in the Woods figuring out the plot)

Emerens' and Nicomaque's (@soupedepates ) dynamic is a combination of "I can't fix him. I can fuck him tho. That may calm him down" and "I can make him worse" coming from both sides

trying to figure out hsr's timeline is just pepesilvia.jpeg
when dates are labeled "AE" does that mean the WHOLE amber era, e.g. 2157 AE is the 2157th amber era, which itself lasted anywhere from 76 to 240 years?
was the swarm disaster in the 1300s AE ~770 whole ass amber eras ago (e.g. 60,000-180,000 years ago) from the present in 2157 AE, because that is an insane length of time?
the xianzhou fleet set sail in search of Yaoshi ~8000 years ago (whose years in what system???), and Yaoshi didn't exist during the swarm disaster, so is there just a huge gap between 60k-180k years ago & 8k years ago?
but the founding of the IPC is listed as occurring btw 1357-1387 AE, involving the same people who were presumably mortal, pre-Yaoshi, and didn't live for thousands of years, so that HAS to be measured as 30 years and not 30 amber eras?
but also the IPC claims one of those people contemporary to the swarm disaster is definitely still alive??? i mean sure they could mean it symbolically or sth, but man
man.
i understand the history fictionologists now. i too am about to start just making shit up
