If it is the very first time you are stepping into a gym and lifting weights then you should start off doing full body exercises for a few weeks. You don't have to do this, but it's better as this will get your muscles, joints and ligaments used to what exercises and weighted exercises feel like. Also, learning the foundational exercises such as squat, pushups, pull-ups etc should be done first as well. Aside from learning these exercises properly, they also teach you proper body mechanics and will also allow you to perform other exercises better as similar body mechanics are performed closely as the foundational exercises. And there have also been studies done to show it is generally better to do full-body because when you first start off working out you will tend to only have a smaller finite amount of strength and will tend to burn out your muscles easier. Thus using your energy more spread across the board versus one muscle or two will yield you better results in the beginning. Again,it's not wrong to do a split routine or some other way of training right at the start of you working out but doing full body will just set you up slightly better for the long run of this game. "Don't stay on a high protein diet, it's hard on your kidneys" was what I heard from some medical professionals when I was younger just getting into bodybuilding and also prepping for my show. That can't be farther from the truth. Although I believe in a more balanced diet or method of eating, being on a high protein diet will not have harsh effects on your kidneys. Protein is a healthy macro that is broken down in your body on a daily basis and even if it is increased in your dieting for weight loss purposes it won't cause any disastrous issues. But you know what will cause issues? All the visceral fat that builds around your kidneys and around your other organs from the junk that people eat. All types of heavy fried foods, sweets, high trans fat foods, now these will do a number on them. Being several pounds overweight will cause them to work overtime putting a lot of pressure for them to keep breaking down the unnecessary calories entering the body. Heavier is not always better. Especially if you are just starting out in the gym. You may even have natural strength, more than other people, but if you don't know how to lift the weight or know when to stop increasing the weight, you can still hurt yourself. But when it comes to building muscle lifting HEAVIER doesn't mean more muscle will build. Building your muscle comes back to the point of tearing the fibres and the best method for this is picking a relatively mediocre to heavy weight and making sure your form and contraction is as best as you can make it. You then want to go for repitions, 15 or more if you are able to. If your just starting out then start with 12 reps first. But the point here is to know you don't need to think you automatically need to lift heavy ass weight to grow and put on muscle and get big because that isn't the case. Lifting heavy can and will build muscle sure, but you won't be able to get as many reps that way. Strength will increase for sure but if we are talking about building muscle then your best bet is to pick a moderately heavy weight, make sure your form and mind to muscle connection is good and really focus on the contraction and squeezing of the muscle during the exercise. You'll get more tearing of the fibers and if done repeatedly and properly overtime, you'll gain good results as well. Think of the consistency of results you get from fitness just like brushing your teeth. Everyday you need to spend time towards your teeth. 3 minutes in the morning and then 3 minutes again at night. You have to consistently do this everyday to not only brighten and shine those teeth but also keep them from building up plague and causing infections. In order to help achieve this you will need the right toothpaste to help clean and whiten your teeth. Over time of you doing this repetitive motion you will start to see results. And in order to keep these results you have to consistently do this everyday. Well fitness Is not that different. Everyday you need to spend 45 minutes to an hour or so, on your body to help develop your physique. To consistently build muscle you need to make sure you workout multiple times a week and over time to thicken and develop those muscles. And in order to keep them you need to keep working out to sustain them. And in order to achieve this you will also need the right nutrition as well. So if you want to see results then make sure you keep at it everyday. Because just like how those teeth won't whiten themselves, those muscles won't develop on their own either.
