I graduate in one year and it’s overwhelming how much I want to try!!!

keep in mind i'm saying all this as someone who recently made a great connection with someone who works for the texas general land office and fully intends to utilize that connection as far as it'll take me. this whole fiasco has cemented my desire to improve state agencies by actually getting directly involved in them and helping the good ones doing good work for the environment. yes things are bad, but they'll stay bad if we don't actually stick our necks out for the people and places who need us

Finally got my hands on some brine shrimp eggs! I couldn't find my old hatchery, so I just made one out of two 2L bottles.

Here is it with the salt disolving

Then right after I added the eggs

Then, 24 hours later, they've hatched!

After removing the airline, and letting it sit for around 15 minutes with a light shining on the bottom in a dark room, you can see them moving as they've settled to the bottom and the egg casings have floated to the top.

I suck them out by putting my finger on the end of a straw and submerging the other end into the cloud of baby brine shrimp. Then I take my finger off the end, and they're all sucked up into the straw. Then, I quickly put my finger on the end of the straw again and transfer them to a cup.

There are millions of them!

Unfortunately, my betta didn't care for them, but my endlers and my honey gourami went nuts for them!

The harlequins and glowlight rasboras love them! So does my pearl gourami! Good thing there's some leftover for tomorrow!

My toxic trait is that I want to start at an entry level position in a job so I can learn the requirements and expectations of the workplace, then move up the ladder once I have a grasp on the needs of the research program, but the job market is like "It's Head Honcho or nothin, babey."

sometimes then only thing you need in the whole world is to whimsically tour the fish hatchery with your best friend on a sunny autumn afternoon . get splashed by a salmon, look at a sturgeon or two, feed some freaking trouts . it’s healthy for the spirit

Yes a lot of things are awful a lot of the time but sometimes you can just go outside and find birds that are in their awkward teenager phase that still have some of their fluffy baby feathers so they look all goofy and ruffled and that makes it better I think

work was so exciting yesterday. normally at necropsy i just help harvest heads, but yesterday i got to be under the hood and help scribe all the internals and help dissect the fish and i got to see parasites under the microscope! and then when we went back to the lab, i actually felt kind of competent helping with tissue processing which usually makes me feel dumb bc i don't do it often.
