I am always astonished with fireheart's compassion in your stories even though that is kinda the whole point. Idk there is just a lot of emphasis in modern writing on the cold hard main character, and fire is just none of that? And that's really nice, to have him care so tremendously.
Great chapter, I cried, can't wait to see how much worse it gets
There is a distinct lack of "softness", for lack of a better term, in stories these days. I don't just mean LotR-style tenderness, though that is sorely missed - I mean there seems to be a fear of letting characters be vulnerable at all, especially main characters. Every sincere moment has to be undercut with a joke, or a dramatic twist, like the writers are flashing you a view of some pretty picture they drew before hastily covering it up so no one can really observe it and analyze it. Do they think it's equivalent to rolling over and showing their bellies to an animal that's going to rip their guts out? I don't know where this self-consciousness came from or how it developed, but it aggravates me to no end, especially as someone who ADORES character moments that let the audience see something soft and raw. Those moments are important! Let them happen! They're vital for letting people believe in and connect to your characters!
All that to say that Fireheart's kindness and gentle, bone-deep compassion is something I am fiercely dedicated to. It's so much more interesting to me that in a story as dark and violent as Warriors, the main character doesn't let go of their agape love regardless of what the world throws at them. Sure, they struggle here and there to maintain it when things get really bad, but the victory of staying philanthropic and friendly after their trials is is such a triumph! Like you said, he cares, and he will keep caring for as long as any facet of him continues to exist. I simply cannot let him be any other way.

There’s something silly to me about Bluestar x Yellowfang
It’s just “yeah Firestar’s moms should date”
Old women with tragic backstories and the very orange boy they separately adopted

I just finished rereading the TOG series and like. there are so many thoughts and emotions spinning around my mind that I can't express properly, like how will I ever explain that optimistic part of myself I saw in aelin, or the longing for a purpose or cause to kill myself for like lysandra. how will I convey that sense of frustration for my own inabilities like what aelin felt when she could do nothing but wait for the dam to break and flood the entire valley. how can I talk about love when there are couples like elide and lorcan that exist in the world today. how will I ever admit to that small part of me tucked into a pocket for the stand against fears, which tells me "my name is sam cortland and I will not be afraid," or the warning in the lavender-scented soap to never be selfish or unsure with the people you truly love. tog truly taught me something a lot of other books didn't: that the journey mattered more than the ending. it mattered so much more that they managed to find their mates rather than find the happy ending. it mattered so much more that they found a new family, another something worth fighting for. it mattered the most that all the journeys and experiences they went through still gave them courage and strength and willingness to fight for what they believed was right, and I'll always remember this book for its characters that followed their heart, and sometimes died chasing after the stars.

I see a lot of fics where the writer leans into Fireheart’s more naive, himbo-traits and that’s fun and all, but
I think it’s easy to forgot that Fireheart was a natural fighter, had a lot of stone-cold lines, and was never above treason or breaking the code when he thought it was justified,
And those are the traits that are being amplified in this Fireheart AU that I’m writing and it’s been really fun and interesting, and I hope this fic ends up being something that I want to stick with, and it’s something that eventually sees the light of day!

Sometimes the real monsters are the ones who have stayed by your side.
Tumblr media
Au where TigerClaw was announced as FirePaw’s mentor and they slowly started to form a father-son relationship until FirePaw witnessed TogerStar taking one of BlueStar’s lives.
They were both like “oh shit” but in different ways XD
Anyways, I’m a bitch who is awake at 1AM so here’s a thingy (beware! TigerClaw actually has feelings!?!?)
Fireheart slowly edged towards the moss-covered leaders den, observant of any dangers approaching. He had recently heard yowling coming from the den, so his kittish curiosity got the best of him. He carefully moved the moss smothering the entrance of the cave, just to see…his former mentor?
“TigerClaw?” Said FireHeart, barely over a whisper, although it seemed to get the deputy’s attention. TigerClaw turned his head to his former apprentice. Blood dripped from his muzzle and nose, a few scratches lay on his muzzle and side. TigerClaw’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Fireheart..” he quickly shot his head to turn to the limp leader in front of him, a red liquid on her previously unsheathed claws and a deep wound on her throat. TigerClaw’s eyes narrowed into slits, before facing his shaking apprentice once again. “I-I know what this looks like but I swear-“ TigerClaw was quickly cut off by the ginger warrior.
“You-You killed her..” tears slowly began to well in the ginger Tom’s eyes as his eyes slowly drifted to his adoptive mother’s dead body, although it seemingly began to twitch. FireHeart’s claws unsheathed instinctively, his eyes thin slits. The feline’s green eyes darted back to TigerClaw’s amber ones.
“Fireheart, please-“ TigerClaw was cut off by a deep snarl coming from the flame-colored feline facing him. Fireheart slowly began to edge towards the large Tom, his tail lashing behind him as his claws sand into the earth beneath him.
TigerClaw unsheathed his claws. His lips drawing back in a deep growl. “Fine.” His heavy tail slowly began to wag. Suddenly, TigerClaw felt a light weight on his back, although it wasn’t FireHeart. He quickly turned, attempting to atleast have a glance at what was attacking him, but all he saw was a bluish-grey tuft of short fur.

First hunt:
Jaypaw padded behind his mentor confidently, his long ears high and alert for every sound. This was his first real patrol with Brightheart, and he was going to make a good first impression. Everything was going smoothly, Jaypaw could hear nothing out of the ordinary except for some birds chirping, and the rustling of leaves against the soft breeze.
" Jaypaw, do you smell that?" His mentor whispered to him.
" Smell what?"
" It's a mouse. I want to see if you can pinpoint where it is using your ears."
Jaypaw swiveled his ears, trying to listen for any giveaway for the mouse's location. He finally picked up on a noise, a small chittering and pawsteps. Brightheart noticed his success, and tapped her tail to his back, silently motioning him to continue. Jaypaw crept slowly towards the noises, trying to make his steps as silent as possible. His paw bumped a stick, so he moved around it as to not alert the mouse. As he got closer, he could pick up on the scent of the small creature. He bunched up his legs, and leaped. He was slightly off, so the mouse nearly got away, but Jaypaw soon corrected himself, and latched onto the creature with his jaws, killing it.
"Good job Jaypaw! I'm sure the clan will be happy with this prey, let's return to the clan for now."
Content with his catch, he joined up with his mentor and paraded into camp, holding his catch up high. He could feel the excitement from his littermates as they crowded around him, asking him to tell them how he caught prey on his first hunt. He told them he could sense the mouse's movement. The other apprentices sat down with the three to talk about their days as well. What they couldn't see, however, was Firestar looking down upon his grandchildren, contemplating.
If Starclan had abandoned them, why would they bless the offspring of a forbidden relationship..? Did they have an ulterior motive behind it, and if so, would it endanger the clans..?

Longstar AU - A Dark Interlude
Trigger Warning - blood, injury, animal death
The night was dimly lit, the tree branches weaving together into a nigh impenetrable ceiling against the full moon.  The Newleaf air was chill against Longstar’s pelt as he slunk through the undergrowth.  He squinted in the gloom, the scars on his face pulling as he focused on the bushes ahead of him.  Longstar was on a mission of great importance, one that would shape his very future.
He was catching a late-night snack for his nursing mate.
Flamewish had told Longstar of her second pregnancy shortly after the Bloodclan Battle.  He had been, and still was, ecstatic about the development.  He loved Cloudtail like a son already, and Snowpaw and Mistlepaw like his flesh and blood, but kits of his own…he had taken one look at them and fallen in love.  Little red coated Foxkit, and tiny brown coated Swiftkit.  He only hoped Swiftspirit would be honored by the name.
It had only been a little over a week, and the usually jovial and lively Flamewish was exhausted, and craving a fresh midnight mouse.  Longstar was more than happy to provide, and had left his terrifying beauty in the capable paws of the Nursery and Fireheart.  And Cinderpelt, of course.  Neither sibling would forgive him if he forgot about “their” apprentice. Shaking the memories from his head, he scented the air for mouse-scent and listened intently.  Fireheart had told him though his eyes were fine now, they could – and probably would – deteriorate over time.  The dog’s teeth could have done quite a lot more damage, Starclan bless, but if he was going to lose his eyesight at some point, he’d best be prepared ahead of time to still be able to get around.  There was no fresh mouse scent, or even bird-scent, but a faint hint of bonesandbloodandteethandpack had his hackles raising.
And then a cat screamed terror and pain into the silence.
Longstar leapt into motion, a streak of silver-brown against the shadowed bushes and tree trunks.  The cat wailing was joined by the barking of a dog, and fear cut through Longstar like The Tyrant had cut down Tiger”star” – cold and piercing through his guts.  But a cat was in danger, and even if he was too late for them, he had to drive the dog off.
He only hoped it didn’t take a Life.
The sounds of thrashing bushes and feline terror grew close, and Longstar clambered up a tree to get a better vantage point.  There was indeed a dog, though far smaller than the ones Tiger”star” had lured to kill Thunderclan.  But it was tearing ruthlessly into a gray form, shaking the unknown cat like a leaf in a storm.  With little time to plan if he wanted to save the poor cat, Longstar calculated the distance, and leapt.  He landed on the small dog’s back with a yowl, causing the dog to drop its victim and whirl about wildly.  Digging his claws in, he bit down on the beast’s neck as hard as he could.  The dog yelped in pain and scrambled to get away, and Longstar had to jump off to not be dragged away.  With a final swipe at its hindquarters to drive it away, Longstar finally turned towards its poor victim.
A gray cat lay in a puddle of blood and debris from the bushes.  Their sides heaved raggedly, and their breaths sputtered horribly.  Longstar approached, but it was very apparent that this cat was dying far too quickly for him to help.  He crouched close to their face, and the cat’s remaining heather-blue eye locked onto him.  Longstar’s mind interposed Swiftspirit’s face on the dying cat, and he shuddered in grief.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t here fast enough to help you” he gently mewed, “but I promise to be here for you now.  Yow won’t be alone.”
The cat looked at him with their teary eye, and tried to speak through gasping breaths. “…d…da…k…” The cat coughed wetly, then continued. “DaaAark…kkkk...t...t…nnnh…”  Their eye looked beyond him, and as he processed what they had said, passed into the night with a sigh.
…Dark?...Itn?...Dark kitten?  A KITTEN!?!?!
Longstar quickly looked around in a panic, the blood in the air clouding his senses.  Oh Starclan was there a kitten in this mess?!  Blood spotting his paws as he searched, he saw a gleam like starlight out of the corner of his better eye, and whipped his head around towards where the now lifeless cat had looked.  A tiny tuft of bloody white fur protruded out of the bushes, and Longstar rushed to the spot.  Within the bush, behind the brave parent cat, was an injured kitten, no more than three moons old.  Their – judging by the scent through the blood, a little tomcat – ear was nearly torn off, bloody scratches littered his little body, and his tail hung by a scrap of flesh.  His eyes were wide and horrified, and his sides heaved in terror.
Oh sweet Starclan he needed to get this kitten help Right NOW! He reached his head out to grab the kitten, and was rewarded with a hiss and a warning swipe to his nose.  “Hey there, are you okay little guy?” Longstar mewed, trying to look friendlier.  “I’m not going to hurt you…you must be Dark, right?”  The kitten stared, as if not even seeing him.  Then his eyes focused at Longstar’s face, and his fur started to flatten. “You’re very brave, little guy, but I need to get you some help.  Can I take you with me?” The kitten – Dark – began to tremble, and whispered “…momma?”
Longstar hid his wince as best he could, and quietly mewed “I’m sorry, but she’s hunting in the stars now, and nothing can hurt her anymore.” Dark’s face twisted into tears, and he held back a whine.  “Please, Dark, can I take you somewhere safe?  My family and my own kits would never forgive me if I left you here.”  The kitten heaved a sob, and nodded, stepping forward gingerly. “…my name’s Darkkit…”
Oh.
That is a very Clan name.
“That’s a great name sweetie, just” Longstar paused, looking at the carnage behind him, “just close your eyes for me, okay?  You don’t want to see your mother like this.”  Darkkit nodded again, with a wince, and wobbled forward.  Longstar grabbed him gently by the scruff, and as fast as he could manage without jarring Darkkit’s injuries, headed for home.
Please Starclan, he prayed, let Fireheart and Cinderpelt be awake!
-------
Fireheart and Cinderpelt were indeed awake, waiting at the entrance to camp with cobwebs and poppy seeds and worried faces.  Yellowfang’s spirit had woken Fireheart, and apparently was staying with Flamewish – probably to see her great-grandkits.  The Healers rushed the injured kitten to the Healer’s Den, and shooed Longstar away as soon as Darkkit fell asleep.  They had garnered some new information from the kitten – his sire had been a Windclan cat, who had rejected Darkkit and his mother Smoke, though he couldn’t remember the tom’s name or role.  Longstar had sent an early morning patrol to make sure the dog was gone, and another to bury the mother who had fought so hard to save her son.
After thoroughly cleaning himself up, Longstar entered the Leader’s Den; as he thought, a starlit gray molly was curled over the sleeping Flamewish and the kits.  Yellowfang glanced up at him with a critical eye, then softened her gaze.
“The kit’ll heal up fine, Longface, stop bringing the mood down in here” she murmured.  Longstar sagged in relief – if he could trust anyone to be honest, it would be Yellowfang.  After a moment, he shrugged. “I’m just hoping Flamewish doesn’t skin me for not bringing a mouse” he joked.
“Extenuating circumstances, you live this time” came from the Queen, opening one eye and smiling up at Longstar.  “Now tell me about our new son!” Yellowfang laughed at the look on Longstar’s face, which woke a mewling Swiftkit and Foxkit.  With a glittering smile, Yellowfang departed from the den, leaving Longstar with his loving mate and kits.
-------
Flamewish was right though, Darkkit fit into their family just fine.

Come Hel or High Lord: Ch 16
Tumblr media
Chapter 16: You Can Call Me Fire
Words: 11k (they're getting longer HELP)
Reminder: This is a crossover between all SJM series. So spoilers for TOG, ACOTAR, and CC
Summary:
If you read this one before the beginning of March... no you didn't... I reworked it a bunch and re-posted.. The pawns are moving across the board. Nesta makes her way to Terrasen and Aelin coincidentally falls directly into the hands of the one creature that came tame her.
Read on Ao3
A Fae male peered down at them from the branches of the apple tree Aelin had been lounging under just a little while before. He had blended in so well, Completely unseen up until that moment. His amber eyes glowed like the glint of dappled sunlight. They closed slightly when he smiled mischievously down at them, cocking his head like a true fairy tale creature. Not entirely predator but definitely not prey. His ruby hair, nearly the same shade as the gemstone apples, fell past his shoulders and danced in the wind along with the green and golden leaves. It was as if he had been made from the very tree itself.
This is a cross over fic so a giant cast of characters and a big stupid storyline but Azris is my main bitch in this fic so ... Holla at ya boi if you want on or off the Azris tag train : @talibunny30 @iftheshoef1tz @born-to-riot @fell-in-luvs @fieldofdaisiies @aktrain @honeysuckle-daydreams13 @secret-third-thing @acourtofladydeath @pippsmcgee @youvereachedthenearest-lovergirl @baileybird71 @skyesayshi @yanny-77 @areyoudreaminof

You mentioned your Fireheart ghost AU will have like a Fire/Sand sibling dynamic? I was just wondering what that looks like for them!
The other warriors snicker as Fireheart is followed out of camp by a trail of rowdy apprentices, and for her snickering, Fireheart ropes Sandstorm into coming with them.
“Building your case to mentor one of the kits?” Sandstorm asks as they lead the way to the sandy hollow. Cinderpaw follows quietly on their tails, while Swiftpaw and Lynxpaw take swipes at each other in the back.
“Not really,” Fireheart replies. “But if it works then I won’t complain.”
“Fernkit, Ashkit, and Mistlekit,” Sandstorm counts. “One for you, one for me, and one for Dustpelt.”
Fireheart snorts. “As if Bluestar would give Dustpelt an apprentice over Graystripe. He’s almost more impatient than Runningwind.”
“Maybe, but we all know that if Bluestar gives any of us fresh-meat an apprentice then it’ll be you, and Dustpelt would throw a fit if you got to mentor an apprentice before him.”
“Then maybe Dustpelt shouldn’t have such a bad attitude all the time.”
“Not all the time,” Sandstorm disagrees. “Only whenever you’re around.”
Fireheart shoots Sandstorm a half-hearted glare. Looking back it’s hard to pinpoint the exact moment she decided to morph their rivalry into a friendly rivalry, and Fireheart suspects that Whitestorm had something to do with it. Whatever magic Whitestorm worked, though, apparently did not extend to Dustpelt.
“Because I’m a kittypet,” Fireheart says, sounding bitter.
“I mean, it’s not that simple, but sure.”
“Enlighten me, then.”
Sandstorm shrugs. “You joined the day his mentor was murdered so he was already grieving, and then he was reassigned to Darkstripe and he ended up spending a lot of time around Tigerclaw and Longtail who basically make up your entire fan club--”
“Okay, I get it,” Fireheart interrupts. “You’re saying he was brainwashed.”
“I’m saying your mentor has a lot to do with who you become,” Sandstorm retorts. Somehow that feels like the theme of the day.
A star mentored a star mentored a star, remembers Fireheart. He wonders what Whitestorm’s father, Tigerclaw’s mentor, was like. He wonders if he can ask the elders about it without seeming suspicious.
Sandstorm takes his contemplative silence as brooding and suggests, “You know, there is an alternative explanation. Maybe Dustpelt is like, secretly madly in love with you and he loathes himself for it.”
Fireheart cuts Sandstorm a glare. “Quit joking.”

Lil anthro LongFire thingamabob, warning I absolutely suck at writing so bleh.
LongTail walked into the snowy streets, his boots sinking into the white powder. He clutched his phone tightly in his hand, FireHeart on the other side of it.
“So where’s your house?” LongTail turned his head multiple times, looking for the comically large building, although it was nowhere in sight. “I can’t see it.” He talked into the speakers of his device.
“It should be to the left! Do you see it?” FireHeart was on his bed, twirling his curly fur while his legs crisscrossed, a large smile on his face. “With the bricks, etcetera?”
“Literally every house has bricks, Fire.” Replied the silver tabby. He tapped his foot on the ground below him. All he saw was shops and apartments. “I think you gave me the wrong address.” He groaned quietly. The feline used his other hand to fiddle with the end of his scarf.
“Hmm…” FireHeart paused. LongTail began to hear shuffling and turning on the other side of the phone until the ginger finally began to speak once again. “Oh yeah, I gave you the wrong address.” He chuckled while LongTail groaned dramatically.
“Why am I even out here…?” He whispered to himself, pinching his nose-bridge. His frown deepened.
“Because you love me~!” FireHeart smirked, rolling onto his back. He laughed as he spoke.
“I want a divorce.”
“What about the kids?”
“They can fend for themselves, FireHeart! IM COLD!!!”
Anyways make sure to like and subscribe
