Fourth of July Headcanons?

Why not?

The Kent's do fireworks on the farm. They have the space so its fine. Anyone who knows shows up with either fireworks, drinks or food.(Ma kent doesn't mind cooking, but that is a lot of people.)

The Kent's and Wayne's both bring the big fireworks and the Flash fam brings the smaller ones. Diana and the girls bring enough sparklers for all of smallville. People just gather near the farm to watch. The teenagers are the ones who lite them up, but Tim and Kon aren't allowed to light things together due to creating a firecracker, mortar, pail bomb one year.

Damian also kicked one into working one year and hasn't been allowed near since.

Slow Horses

Fave viewing over the past few years has been SLOW HORSES on AppleTV+. A spy show with all the intrigues of a John le Carré novel, but if George Smiley was written as a sarcastic smart arse and every other spy was a downbeat comedian.

The show focusses on spies who’ve disgraced themselves, but for various reasons can’t be set free into the wild. We are led into this espionage backwater by an earnest young spy who has become persona non grata with Mi5. His efforts to get back into the slick world of Regent’s Park puts him at the heart of the action in the series. Though he’s from Mi5 royalty (as his grandfather used to head the organisation) he’s banished to a shabby facility called Slough House. 

Lamb uses his signature flatulent power-move on Taverner. 

This kingdom of losers is ruled by Jackson Lamb, hilariously played by Gary Oldman. Famed for being a chameleon, Oldman is clearly having enormous fun here, playing this jaded old cold warrior, who doesn’t care any more. Lamb has let himself go physically, but is still mentally sharp enough to anticipate when he’s being setup. Which is often, and most likely by his Mi5 boss Diana Taverner (played with deadpan ice queen flair by Kristin Scott Thomas). Her disdain for the screwups of Slough House doesn’t stop her from using their services. These ‘Slow Horses’ are ostensibly kept on by ‘the service’ for menial jobs - filing and desk work - but they are sometimes caught up in intrigues too. Simply because Mi5 often needs fall guys.

Shirley & Marcus pinned down by The Tiger Team.

Mi5 is portrayed as a world of grasping political climbers. The higher up the political totem pole, the more damehoods & knighthoods there are. But ruthless sociopaths abound too. More than willing to sacrifice their underlings if it advances their own interests, or covers up a blunder. The traditional baddies of spy stories are here, but rather than the Russians or international terrorists, domestic political dirty dealing is responsible for most of the body count.

Min & Louisa surprise an intruder at Slough House.

For all their flaws, the Slow Horses have more decency than the ‘winners’. They are prickly & snarky characters, that are nevertheless likeable. A fave of mine is Roddy Ho, Slough House’s IT expert. His hilariously pompous dialog is brilliantly played to the smugly annoying hilt by Christopher Chung. Pint-sized firecracker Shirley Dander (Aimee-Ffion Edwards) and wily old school operative Catherine Standish (Saskia Reeves) are a couple of other faves, but honestly, all the characters have their moments.

The show-runner is standup comedian & writer Will Smith, who manages to deliver laughs aplenty but also real drama. Main characters can die, and probably when you’d just learned to love them. We enjoyed watching this show so much that, after finishing the 3rd season, we RE-watched the entire thing, and were entertained even more the 2nd time. 

Jackson Lamb has an ice cream.

Having just exhausted all the viewing options available, Julia & I just began the book series that the show is based on, by Mick Herron. Though many details differ, the books are remarkably similar to the TV series, tonally. Added background details to the characters & plots make them enjoyable even after seeing the show. Hopefully they will feed us enough Lamb until season 4 drops at the end of 2024.

diana grew up in palmview her entire life, having been adopted out to the stellato family for reasons unknown to her - and reasons she doesn't care to discover. best described as a firecracker, or a candle next to an oil tank, diana may have been given everything on a silver platter her whole life but not without the right upbringing to make sure it was worth it. well - spoken but quick to temper, her parents wanted the best for their little girl, indulging in her whims within reason.

in school, she was best known as the girl who was quick to stand up to injustice, butting in where she could, and coming from the stellato family -- well known in the palmview upper echelon -- well, it never hurt her chances at getting a bully to back down. this confrontational nature carried her in debate teams, even bringing them to nationals. it boosted her placement for college as well, and she secured a place in-state to study international law before graduating and coming back to palmview to take a deserved break.

currently working as a live performer at groove cafe, diana spend her shifts singing and picking up requests, and never missing an opportunity to defend baristas from overbearing customers. she's torn between pursuing her studies abroad, which is what her parents want, or to continue them near home.

My version of Samantha is different from the original. She is smart, upbeat, quick witted and adventurous of the trio.

For design I turned her into a slim, brown skinned Mulatta tomboyish girl with curly burgundy brown hair with bangs kept in pigtail buns with yellow hair ties, dark brown eyes, black and red lips, her attire of consists, a red cat eyed framed glasses with yellow lenses and wearing varsity causal clothes. Her friends Clover and Alexia are the both of the spies whose wear makeups.

Sammie is the smartest and straight A's student in Beverly Hills High School. She had the excellent grades and has won the science contests, she is a fan of superheros, she studied biology and hanging out with her best friend Alexia and smiled at her crush David, she going to psychic class with Clover, her worst fear of failure and being embarrassed by her classmates included Mandy and the other mean girls bullying her, flirting David to making him break up with her, planning and assisting her uncle Big Manfred running her and her family out of business and try to ruling her life. She and Alexia are in their first year of high school. She is a team member tennis, softball and baseball every from Tuesday to Thursday and also a new member of Science Olympiad every Wednesday at lunch. 1. Sett and Aphelios originally started as a joke ship based off of arguably homophobic sterotypes (himbo x twink that were released close together). They have no lore together because one is in Ionia and the other in Targon, complete opposite sides if the map. They have two skins together, Sprit Blosssom and Heartsteel. Arguably, Firecracker/Lunar Beast too.

2. Diana and Leona do have lore. They have a whole short story plus the Vaulted Path cinematic. It is consistent. They have numerous voicelines and references to each other.

3. There are other gay couples besides those two. Graves and Twisted Fate have short stories, cinematics, and voicelines for each other. Neeko is openly a lesbian, having numerous references for her attraction to Nidalee and other female champions. They even share a card back in LoR with the ship name.

Is it even queerbaiting if they have gay sex on screen? What is there to bait?

For my first post, I'm going to say sum:

You fell for Riot's queerbait, which is similar to falling for Disney's queerbait. You're just ARCANE fans, and that's it. There's no way around it. Riot made Sett×Aphelios once, and led a group of people to believe that they're an inclusive company, but, for example, Sett and Aphelios only have ONE skin together and no lore. Diana and Leona, the same thing, only in the splash arts and no consistent lore. You need to remember that Riot always ruins everything.

* BY THE WAY, Riot wasn't like that with Xayah and Rakan, Senna, and Lucian. For them, Riot dedicated time and effort.

Almost Home - Lunar Revel 2022 Cinematic

It was difficult to focus on bits of their conversation when Samar would throw something charming out there to distract her with. It was a line that he may have used countless times; he oozed of suaveness. Still, it felt endearing enough not to be practiced. For someone who could easily ignore charms and flirty remarks - as she'd grown accustomed to needing to in the business - something about it this time gave her butterflies. It had to be that damn kiss, she insisted. She'd had a taste and wanted more. Eleanor was good at depraving herself of things, but Samar had been on her mind for a while now. "I cannot deny that truth. It does seem you are usually on the top of your game with the material you put out. That says a lot about the opportunities you take advantage of." Eleanor shook her head, but the smirk toying at pink lips definitely gave way that she wasn't perturbed by his comment. "I'm sure that is untrue, but I will gladly accept the flattery. Even if it is a line I've heard many times," she pointed out cheekily.

"You aren't wrong though. It's usually quite obvious within the first few minutes of conversation when someone actually wants your company or just wants something from you. Typically it's the latter. But I cannot imagine a single thing you would want from me, Mr. Seghal. And I don't think Diana would take too kindly if you did." Her friend was a firecracker, and though Samar seemed more reserved and gentlemanly, she knew there was a fire brewing beneath. For some reason she felt inclined to ignite it. "Well, I only know what Diana has told me... or you know, gossip. But you've already proven that everything heard isn't to be believed." Eleanor enjoyed the casual atmosphere; it was something she didn't get to revel in too often except with close friends. Maybe Samar might become part of that. "Thank you. I would love to go back someday." When she wasn't constantly looking over her shoulder, worried that Olivier might learn of her trip. "Really? I think you may have to rectify that then. I thought Diana said you had been in a long relationship and traveled a little. I just assumed Paris would be a hotspot for that." Yes, she was fishing for details, but it had sort of come up organically. Or she convinced herself that it had.

"I'm sorry, she laughed as the waitress slipped away. "I didn't want to order you something you despite. Good to know I'm safe with wine then. And a sliding scale seems accurate. Trouble isn't exactly my middle name. I just always assumed you were more the rebel type. Going out and causing mayhem so you could write about it." It came out as a joke, but it actually wasn't too far off from her first impression. "Football is fun. I used to go sometimes with my brother. Do you only watch, or do you like to play it as well? My family thought I was weird because I enjoyed playing flag football with Charlie and his friends," she shared, then reached for her own glass for a sip. A few moments passed and Samar was supplied his wine and their food orders had been placed. Eleanor could feel her body sort of ease as she became more comfortable. Still, there was the main reason she had invited him here, and now she was getting a little nervous about bringing it up. "So." She started softly, swallowing another hearty sip of alcohol. "I suppose you're curious about this proposition I mentioned?" The actress in her wanted to play calm, cool, and collected, but the way Eleanor fiddled with her napkin wasn't pulling off that vibe. She bit her lip, tilting her head to the side as her cheeks flushed deeply. "About what happened on the boat. Would you, um, be opposed to... trying that again, sometime. Maybe?" As soon as the words came out she wanted to run out. Or maybe hide under the table. "I mean, you know... nothing serious, just... show this depraved actress how to have some fun?"

And then she died of embarrassment. But somehow kept rambling. "Sorry, I-- this is new to me," Eleanor admitted. "I know everyone else is cool with hook-ups but it's not usually my thing, so. Yeah. There you go. Now I'm going to just drown in this glass of wine."

Samar chuckled at her well-thought out attempt to box him in with her question. Part of what drew him to her in the first place was that she clearly wasn’t just a pretty face, Eleanor Shipley was a formidable thinker in her own right. Giving his beard a playful scratch, he took a moment before answering. “Oh I think we both know the right answer to that, and neither of us have gotten to where we are already by ignoring a good opportunity, right? On the other hand, I can’t think of a single opportunity right this moment that’s better than being here to meet with you.” Samar, honest to a fault but it didn’t mean he couldn’t turn on the charm when he wanted or needed to either. He gave a little chuckle as it was clear just how comfortable she was being back in London, despite its obvious flaws.

The vibes between them were happy and positive, which in itself was still something of a surprise to Samar but also something he was happy to nurture along. Admitting that he shared interest in her company as well, the banter stayed light between them. “Trust me, if it was just an obligation I think you’d be perceptive enough to know. And there’s definitely no reason for embarrassment either tonight.” He grinned at the way she compared and contrasted him with his cousin; “Spot on with that, actually. We might take different routes to get there, but usually we wind up at the finish line all the same. And if you know anything about our family, that’s no accident.”

Allowing himself to be a little less formal now as he balanced his chin in hands, Samar was all too happy to hear her talk about her recent work taking her to Paris. Even though she was something of a globetrotter the impression he got was Eleanor certainly wasn’t jaded by the travel. “Well I’m glad to hear that you had fun still, in between work. And who knows, you just may be able to get there before too long?” For a moment or two he allowed himself to picture her there at the Eiffel Tower enjoying the splendour of it all, perhaps in the company of a certain journalist. “I can’t say I’ve spent much time there either, and what little I have wasn’t for sightseeing either.” Joined by a waitress who brought a drink for Eleanor and water for himself, he nodded politely. “Well I do enjoy water, so thank you for thinking of me.” He took the opportunity to order a glass of wine, and once they were alone again the banter resumed playfully. “Scout’s honor, although for some of us trouble is on a sliding scale.” He grinned once more, taking a sip of water. “Oh, nothing that scandalous. I do enjoy football, I try to get out to a few of Liverpool’s games a year. Besides that, I’m quite the homebody. Though I’ve been trying to pick up some new interests lately. Any suggestions?”
