Safety Equipment: Fire Extinguishers
Not all fire extinguishers are the same and fire safety training is typically required to learn of the different varieties and fire extinguishing media before even attempting to use one in a laboratory setting. Generally speaking, fires are sorted by the media that is burning, and fire extinguishers are rated based on the classes they can extinguish:
Class A, globally, typically represents ordinary combustibles (paper, wood, etc.)
Class B typically represents flammable liquids. In the United States, it also represents flammable gases.
Class C outside the United States represents flammable gases. Within the United States it represents fires from electrical equipment.
Class D, globally, typically represents flammable metals.
Class E is typically only used in Australia and Asia to also represent electrical equipment fires.
Class F (known as class K in the United States) represents cooking fires, such as cooking oil or grease fires.
Some organizations/countries distinguish the varieties by color, while others are less specific. Symbols are typically used alongside class categories to distinguish which fires an extinguisher is capable of putting out. Extinguishers are typically only used on smaller fires that can be put out quickly.
It is important to note that, though organizational standards vary, seldom is using a fire extinguisher required. If a researcher feels in any way uncertain of their capabilities, or the size of the fire, they should not attempt to fight the fire - so long as other protocols (evacuation, pulling the fire alarm, contacting authorities, etc.) are followed.

Because it is that time of the year again, I just can't help myself :D
-o-o-o-
Looking back, it really could have happened to any of them. Hell, now it had happened once, it was even more likely it could happen to any of the rest of them, but of course it had to be Virgil and, of course, it had to happen a week before Christmas.
Fortunately, not only Gordon and Alan, but also John was aboard Thunderbird Two when her pilot folded in half with a groan. The great green behemoth responded to his touch and for a second there, the whole ship tipped sideways.
Alan lost his hard-earned sandwich, and Gordon, who had been half asleep in the co-pilot’s chair, despite the coffee he had consumed not five minutes ago, received an adrenalin spike that was well used in the next half an hour or so.
It had been a hard week. Australia was on fire. Every year the drought dried continent suffered and every year International Rescue did all it could to help. Brains had even designed some specialised equipment, deployed through Tracy Industries to help dampen the eucalypt fuel load, but the change of climate over the last hundred odd years had done its damage and the ecosystem suffered for it.
It was painful to watch.
And tiring to fight.
John had taken to coming down not only for Christmas, but for the fires. He had developed a communications network, tied into TB5, to help coordinate the fire services of the country and pin point the hot spots. At the end of the last outbreak, Gordon had been gobsmacked to find his usually reclusive brother sprawled in a chair beside the Australian Fire Defense Network chief, beer in hand, swapping stories.
It had helped that the chief was the middle of five himself and a communications specialist pushed into management. There was much commiseration.
But none of the past really foretold this little hiccup.
Later when Gordon referred to said incident as a ‘hiccup’, Virgil’s eyebrows had frowned so much, they’d physically climbed off his head and slapped Gordon around his.
Or it could have been Virgil’s hand. Gordon was too busy ducking to really identify the body parts his brother was using.
So, with three brothers aboard, Virgil had plenty of back up.
Gordon was fully awake and stabilising Two before he had even had a chance to draw in a breath. They were halfway across the Tasman Sea, finally on the way home for a well-deserved break.
“Virgil?” John was out of his seat and moving towards the pilot.
“Uh, I’m okay.” The man straightened, still in his silver firefighting suit, minus the helmet. A quick look in his brother’s direction and Gordon could see it was all a lie. Even through the soot on Virgil’s face, his brother’s complexion was pale, almost green. “Just a stitch.”
“Doesn’t look like one from here, bro.” Gordon frowned as John gently nudged Virgil back in his seat. The pilot closed his eyes and lay back, his shoulders dropping just a little. John reached over to the console and flicked a couple of switches. Virgil’s vitals sprang up in all their holographic glory.
Even Gordon could see something was seriously wrong. “You have a fever. What the hell, Virg?”
His brother stared at his stats and frowned. “Just thought I was hot.”
No surprise considering the conditions they were working in.
John sighed. “Your suit has active refrigeration, Virgil, you know that. You should be the coolest of all of us.”
If it had been a different situation, Gordon would have then started a ‘discussion’ on who exactly was the coolest or the hottest of the brothers. As it was, another groan from his engineer brother killed all conversation other than medical concern.
“What is it?” John disengaged Virgil’s seat from the dash, pulling it back and giving him access to his older brother.
“My side.” Virgil’s eyes were squeezed shut.
His lower right side.
Five minutes later and Gordon was beelining Two to the nearest hospital, which turned out to be Auckland near the northern tip of New Zealand.
Less than an hour later, Virgil had his very angry appendix removed.
Of all things.
For the past three days, it had been a mixture of firefly pod and fire exo-suit. His brother had been tossing about massive hoses, shifting huge amounts of timber, excavating firebreaks and water bombing from Two.
Apparently, all while suffering from appendicitis.
When Scott arrived on scene, he was a walking facepalm.
When Virgil woke up, it was all kind words for the first hour or so while he recovered from the anaesthetic, but after that, the tongue lashing Scott delivered was enough to strip the paint off the walls of Virgil’s hospital room.
Grandma ended up dragging the man from the room.
Everyone was quiet after that.
No one liked it when Scott got scared.
Least of all Scott.
But even Gordon had to agree that his eldest brother had a point. Appendicitis wasn’t something that didn’t come with symptoms. Virgil admitted that he had noted some pain, but he had been busy. There had been more important things.
Scott’s response to that was only suitable for mature audiences.
Gordon couldn’t help but agree after having to watch his brother writhe in pain on one of his own hover stretchers while they had been on approach to Auckland.
But it had happened when it had happened and everyone was safe, Virgil included. There were much worse scenarios available considering their occupations and the entire family was grateful it had turned out best it could.
Scott was still livid, though, likely because the man was exhausted. They were all exhausted.
Grandma eyed all of them in turn, cornering each of them in their hotel rooms. It didn’t take her more than half a day to conclude that International Rescue needed a well-earned break. Virgil’s illness made a great excuse and her meeting with Scott was short, sharp and to the point.
The Commander of International Rescue contacted the GDF not long after, advising their aunt that their organisation would not be available for the next week. Eos was tasked with redirecting emergency calls after Grandma grabbed John by the scruff of his neck and with an equally sharp word in his ear, grounded the spaceman beside his brothers.
Virgil received a few glares, but the tired man just rolled over awkwardly and went back to sleep. Apparently, he agreed with Grandma.
Always did, the big Grandma softie.
Except perhaps with her cooking, but that led Virgil to being the biggest victim in that department because despite his incapacity to lie, he would do anything for the woman.
Virgil was released from the hospital a day after his surgery and they helped him back to their hotel rooms and set him up with the holoprojector and an appropriate stash of snacks and engineering journals. Kayo even bought him a sketchbook and an array of art materials.
For two days, the brothers hung out with him or darted out to the shops for convenience’s sake. Copious amounts of takeout were consumed, a treat they were often denied on the Island. But ultimately five usually very active men got very bored very quickly.
They couldn’t go home, because Virgil wasn’t allowed to fly. His operation excluded air travel for at least seven days, which meant, to add insult to injury, they would be stuck on the mainland for Christmas Day.
Their first Christmas off in who knew how many years, and they couldn’t even share it at home.
John distracted himself by linking in with Eos and helping out with emergency calls...until Grandma discovered him and rounded on both him and Eos with the ire Scott had managed to inherit.
Both father and daughter behaved after that, Eos a little stunned at the power of the eldest Tracy.
Alan dove into his computer games and hermitized. Gordon could only swim so much, so resorted to pranking Alan, which ended up in the brawl of the century and half the penthouse draped in toilet paper.
Scott turned to Tracy Industries and began phone calls that lasted hours. Virgil sent Gordon to chase him down.
Scott quite frankly ignored him, which led to Virgil hauling himself off the couch and doing the chasing himself.
That led to a screaming match that ended with both men pale when Virgil twisted angrily and groaned as he pulled at his stitches.
The atmosphere plummeted after that and the whole penthouse floor deteriorated into a sullen gloom.
It was shaping up to be an ass of a Christmas.
Until Gordon had an idea.

Putin Says Western Bases Hosting Ukraine’s F-16s Would Be Legitimate Targets

Russia warns it may attack NATO bases possibly used to launch Ukraine’s F-16s.
If the F-16s are delivered to Ukraine, Russia could also strike NATO bases from which the jets would launch. The threat was issued by Vladimir Putin during a meeting with a group of pilots at Tver, northwest of Moscow. The Russian President said an escalation could be provoked by the delivery of the promised Fighting Falcon jets, for which training of Ukrainian pilots is underway.
“F-16s are capable of carrying nuclear weapons, and we will also need to take that into account while organizing our combat operations,” Putin said.
“Of course, if they are used from bases in third countries, they would be a legitimate target for us, no matter where they are,” he added.
However, the Kremlin believes not even the supply of these fighters will be able to change the course of the conflict, “We will destroy their warplanes just as we destroy their tanks, armored vehicles and other equipment, including multiple rocket launchers”.

Ukraine has long been asking its Western partners for the delivery of F-16s. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said last year that at least 42 F-16s had been promised (the number is not known, but according to the most reliable sources, they should be 60), with the first deliveries expected by the Summer of 2024. Meanwhile, Ukrainian pilots, with different degree of flying experience, are at various stages of training, both in the U.S. and in Europe.
The delivery of the F-16s won’t be a game-changer, considering the need to integrate them in the Ukrainian Air Force, the lack of specific experience of Ukrainian pilots on the type and in view of Russia’s massive air force and sophisticated air defense systems. The weapon system requires logistic support, infrastructure and weapons: it will take years before the whole “ecosystem” that is required to sustain effective combat operations with the Fighting Falcon can be exploited at its best.

However, in the short and mid term, the “Viper” (as the F-16 is nicknamed in the pilot community) will be a quick upgrade from the current MiG-29s: the “new” jets will be used to detect, hunt and engage cruise missiles, helicopters, UAVs and Russian fighters, and to conducting air strikes on Russian targets with stand-off missiles. The F-16s can also be used to fire the AGM-88 HARM missiles (a type that was not “natively” compatible with the Ukrainian combat aircraft but was integrated with the MiG-29 and Su-27) and JDAMs bombs in SEAD/DEAD (Suppression/Destruction of Enemy Air Defenses) missions that are particularly important on the Ukrainian battlefield.
We will see.

International Firefighters’ Day
Firefighters put their lives on the line every day to save our lives, loved ones, homes, and even forests and cities, so give them the thanks they deserve.
The role of a firefighter in today’s society–be it urban, rural, natural environment, volunteer, career, industrial, defense force, aviation, motorsport, or other is one of dedication, commitment, and sacrifice–no matter what country we reside and work in. In the fire service, we fight together against one common enemy–fire–no matter what country we come from, what uniform we wear or what language we speak. - LT JJ Edmondson, firefighter, and creator of Firefighters Day
Nobody could have put what it means to be a firefighter as well as this courageous woman did. Most of us would risk our lives for those we love—family members, friends, pets. But could you imagine risking severe injury or even death for someone whom you don’t know at all? Could you imagine going into a burning building to rescue a stranger, knowing you may not come out?
Could you imagine climbing a tree in a burning forest just to save a defenseless animal too frightened to come down on its own? These are things firefighters do every day, and though we likely see them as acts of pure heroism, for firefighters, they’re just part of the job. Few people deserve to be celebrated as much as these heroic men and women do, so let’s all make sure to celebrate Firefighters Day in their honor!
History of International Firefighters’ Day
The first organized professionals whose job it was to combat structural fires lived in Ancient Egypt–however, at the time, firefighters worked for private companies that provided their services only to those who could afford them. Later, in Ancient Rome, Ceasar Augustus revolutionized firefighting by calling for the creation of a fire guard, called the Vigiles, that was trained, paid, and equipped by the state.
Firefighters Day was created in 1999 after 5 firefighters died tragically during a wildfire in Australia when the direction of the wind changed suddenly and engulfed them in flames. It is celebrated on May 4th because that is Saint Florian’s day, and Saint Florian, who was said to be one of the first commanding firefighters of an actual Roman battalion and saved many lives, is the patron saint of firefighters.
The incident that led to the creation of this date happened on the 2nd of December, 1998, in Linton Community, Australia. The event was so tragic that it shook the entire world. Linton is a populated area in Victoria, Australia, and firefighters at the time were tackling a massive bush fire. They called for mutual aid. This resulted in the Geelong West Fre Brigade coming to the scene. They did not know the tragedy and despair that was awaiting them.
Matthew Armstrong, Jason Thomas, Stuart Davidson, Chris Evans, and Garry Vredeveldt all loaded into a truck. They were sent to help extinguish the flames as part of a strike team. However, as they made their way into the hot zone, the wind switched direction suddenly, which resulted in the truck being engulfed in flames, with all five members losing their lives. It was an extremely tragic event, and it resulted in the birth of a day to celebrate firefighters and everything they do for us. After all many other firefighters have lost their lives in the field.
The symbol of International Firefighters’ Day
The International Firefighters’ Day has a significant symbol associated with it, and this is the blue and red ribbon. The ribbon is cut precisely to one cm in width and five cm in length, with the two different colors join at the top. Blue and red were selected by JJ Edmondson because of the symbolization associated with the colors. Blue is designed to represent water whereas the red represents fire. Not only this, but the two colors are also recognized around the world as a symbol for the emergency services. Therefore, it was decided that there was no better color choice!
The ribbon is typically worn on the fold of the fabric on a shirt, i.e. the lapel. However, it is not restricted to a certain spot. You can wear it wherever you feel appropriate, be it a different part of your shirt or your cap, for example. A lot of people also place them from their car mirrors or windows, as well as the trees in their garden. No matter whether you decide to place these ribbons, they represent a simple yet effective way of showing your support for firefighters all around the world.
How to celebrate International Firefighters’ Day
There are many great ways to celebrate firefighters on this day. Most of all, this day is about showing our appreciation for their service, risks, and sacrifice, so find a way to make sure your local firefighters know how much you value them! As always, it’s the thought that counts and small gestures go a long way, so even bringing a cake down to the fire hall would be a nice thing to do. You could also consider donating money to one of the many firefighter charities out there, some of which help firefighters injured in the line of duty get the medical treatment they need and return to health.
Other firefighter charities help retired firefighters live comfortable lives after years of risks they took for others. You can also raise awareness about the dangers firefighters bravely face every day by wearing a red and blue ribbon—the colors of water and fire, respectively. There are also a lot of different craft projects that you can enjoy on Firefighters Day that are based on the symbol of the day. Wearing a ribbon, baking a cake or donating a few dollars to a charity may not seem like particularly impressive gestures to you, but they will likely mean the world to those who work tirelessly for their communities.
You could also use this time to educate yourself about some of the heroic acts of firefighters, whether in your area or around the world. All you need to do is a quick search on the Internet and you will be able to read about some amazing heroic firefighter stories. This includes heroes who have risked their lives to save newborn babies from burning buildings, as well as the firefighters who have been involved in high-profile incidents that have happened around the world, with the tragic Grenfell Tower fire and the Australian bush fires being two of the most recent tragedies. Pay tribute to the amazing firefighters as well as those who have tragically lost their lives.

[ paul mescal | 27 | cis male | he/him ] Hey, look! It’s [DARRAGH O'CONNOR] at [MYSTERY QUEST ESCAPE ROOMS]. Did you know they [WORK] there as a [CHARACTER ACTOR]? I guess they’re from [DUBLIN, IRELAND] and have been in town for [FIVE], living in [SUTHERLAND PARK]. I also heard they’re a little [HOTHEADED], but also very [SOCIABLE] which definitely makes sense.
tw teen pregnancy, death, abandonment
RAPID FIRE.
Full Name: Darragh O'Connor.
Nicknames: D, Dar.
Pronouns and Gender: He/Him, Cis Male.
Birthday: March 19th, 1996.
Birth place: Dublin, Ireland
How long have they been in Vermont: 5 years, as of Nov 2023.
Sexuality: Bisexual.
Neighborhood: Sutherland Park.
Occupation: Character Actor @ Mystery Quest Escape Rooms / Amateur Boxer.
Family:Aishling O'Connor (Mother, deceased), Murphy Doyle (estranged birth father), Cormac Doyle (half-brother), Cian Doyle (half-brother), Caoimhe Doyle (half-sister).
OVERVIEW.
-- Darragh was the only son of a single mother who struggled for most of her life. Aishling O'Connor became a mother for the first and only time at seventeen years old, and was ill-equipped to handle it after being cut off by her family for deciding to go through with the pregnancy.
-- Despite growing up in uncertainty, for the most part Darragh had a happy childhood. They didn't have much, but they had each other.
-- As far as schooling went, he never displayed much of a natural apt for it. He found classroom settings too restrictive and there was no specific academic subject that held his interest. The only days he would definitively be guaranteed to show up at school was when he had P.E. or football.
-- After a number of calls from his principal and run ins with other mothers on their council estate over fights and scrapes Darragh found himself involved in, his mother enrolled him in a local boxing club when he was ten, and it fostered an interest in the sport that has stayed with him through adulthood.
-- He found something of a father figure there in his coach and trainer, Tom. The discipline of the sport kept him on the straight and narrow, even though there were some run ins in his teenage years with the Garda for being present in robbed cars and where drug deals were occurring.
-- Darragh's whole world shifted on it's axis at his mother's death when he was seventeen years old, and then again a few days later at her funeral when he discovered that his biological father was both alive and well and a man that had three other children who were all older than him and a wife to boot.
-- This news rocked the foundation of everything he thought he knew about himself and his ma, and made him question every word she had ever spoken to him. As soon as he turned eighteen, after a few months of staying with the family of his best friend, he set off travelling rather than having to share a city with a man who knew of his existence and chose to ignore it entirely instead.
-- He initially moved to Australia with two school friends who aspired to do the same and lived/worked there for just under a year and a half before deciding it wasn't for him. Leon and Karl stayed on, while he set his sights on the next continent he would search for some semblance of a new start.
-- The United States were next and after spending a few months on the west coast, Darragh eventually found himself in East Haven, Vermont and decided to settle down there a while after deciding he liked the vibe and the people there .
-- To this day, he still keeps a pretty rigid training regime when it comes to boxing and devotes most of his free time to training / improving his skills in the ring as well as taking on amateur fights.
-- To make ends meet, he works as a character actor at Mystery Quest Escape Rooms. He loves to scare the shit out of people where possible and has been known to be a little generous with hints if he watches a group particularly struggle.
SORTA FUN FACTS.
Has heard every variation of his name pronounced incorrectly. His favorite is Darg. "And what's a Darg when he's at home?"
His official boxing stats as of Nov '23 are 9 matches and 9 wins (4 of which are by KO).
Was supposed to be due on St, Patrick's Day but was born 2 days after his due date, which he's grateful for because he likes his birthday being just about him.
Of his half-siblings, he's only met his half-sister and that was just once. It did not go well and there's been no contact since.
Has been known to lie when asked can he speak Irish if he thinks it can benefit him to pretend to.

Name: Lorraine Venkman
Partner: Orphen (Sorcerous Stabber Orphen)
Age: 15
Birthday: November 7, 2007
Star Sign: Scorpio
Class: Melee/Magic
Home City: Sydney, Australia
Fave Food: Meat Pies
Least Fave Food: Vegemite
Pet Peeve: Being treated like a girl (she prefers to think of herself as more of a guy than a girl)
Hobby: Reading and hiking.
About: Lorraine Venkman was stubborn when she was a kid and still is to this day. She sees herself as not what everyone else saw her as, a girl. She believed she was more than just a girl, yet some seemed to say otherwise. So as not to start a fight, she comforts herself by reading books. Yet even if she tries to calm down by reading, she tends to get annoyed by distractions. So she tried an alternate; hiking, it may be exhausting, but it at least gave Lorraine the time to process her emotions, so whenever she decides that everything is tiring; she'll just take a hike and read. One time, the moment she's back home from her hike, BAM! She is a linker to Orphen the Sorcerous Stabber!
Abilities: For physical/Melee attacks, she carries around a replica of the Sword of Baltanders, which is one of Orphen's weapons. Simple slashes and stabs are the basic moveset. However, it also packs a spellcasting punch. For cross-Melee/Magic, a rune that is engraved on the sword could be cast and would even buff up the physical attacks. As for pure Magic-based attacks, if the sword were to be destroyed somehow or not equipped/in use, that's when the Magic happens. For Magic, Lorraine would activate and cast sorcery spells upon enemies, which vary from fire, ice, water, wind, electricity, light, and darkness, no matter the difference; it still packs a punch.

I'm fine with someone who very much doesn't look like me if they are brave and strong.
Departing New Zealand firefighter Larry Rangiwaia (R) from Gisborne, who was injured fighting the fires, performs a 'Haka", a traditional Maori challenge in Mansfield as 30 degree (86 Fahrenheit) plus temperatures and wind gusts up to 100 kilometres (62 miles) per hour had raised the fire threat in a number of embattled communities, 22 December 2006. A Gurkha, A Sikh, A Rajput. All member of the British Indian Army and winners of the Victoria Cross in WW2. Buckingham Palace, 1945 But Leftism makes people weak, it teaches them to see themselves as victims even as they oppress others, and teaches them to never try to be stronger.
The Rooftop Koreans succeeded because they never bought into the leftist narrative that they were helpless victims. They weren't the strongest - I am sure at times they were terrified.
But when the communists came for them, they were trained, they were equipped, they had a community, they were ready.

Leftists learned from that, and have been weakening 'minorities' with endless propaganda ever since. The DEI hires are feeble and useless, because they were taught they could never be better, and they were taught they should be given stuff without earning it.

These guys didn't listen when the Leftists told them to be weak. That said, female firefighters are always going to be worse at rescuing people, and really only make sense in bushfires or as a last resort.
At a time when people were getting heavier and heavier, the decision to hire women over men was the triumph of ideology over ability, and it should be tossed out of the window ...
without the mattress, of course!
And, yes, I am aware that women and children can fight fires ...

Mental Health First Aid Training: Empowering Communities to Support Mental Wellness
Mental health issues affect millions of people worldwide, impacting individuals, families, workplaces, and communities. As awareness of mental health grows, so does the recognition of the need for comprehensive support systems. One such support mechanism gaining prominence is Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training.
This essential program equips individuals with the knowledge and skills to assist those experiencing mental health crises, much like traditional first aid prepares people to help with physical health emergencies.
What is Mental Health First Aid Training?
Mental Health First Aid Training is an evidence-based educational program designed to teach individuals how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Developed in Australia in 2000 and now implemented globally, MHFA training provides participants with the tools to offer initial support to someone developing a mental health problem or experiencing a crisis. The ultimate goal is to connect the person with appropriate professional help, thereby promoting recovery and protecting lives.
Why is Mental Health First Aid Training Important?
Early Intervention: Just as in physical health, early intervention in mental health issues can significantly improve outcomes. MHFA training teaches participants to recognize early warning signs and symptoms of mental health problems, enabling timely support.
Reducing Stigma: Mental health stigma remains a significant barrier to seeking help. MHFA training promotes understanding and empathy, reducing the stigma associated with mental health issues and encouraging more open discussions.
Empowering Communities: By training community members, MHFA creates a supportive environment where people are more willing and able to help one another. This communal approach fosters a culture of care and understanding.
Enhancing Workplace Wellness: MHFA training in workplaces can improve overall employee well-being, reduce absenteeism, and increase productivity. Employers who invest in mental health training demonstrate a commitment to their employees’ holistic health.
In today’s fast-paced and often hazardous work environments, fire safety training has emerged as an indispensable aspect of occupational health and safety programs. This training equips employees with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent fires, respond effectively in case of an emergency, and ensure their own safety and that of their colleagues. By integrating comprehensive fire safety training into the workplace, organizations can significantly mitigate the risk of fire-related incidents and promote a culture of safety.
Understanding the Importance of Fire Safety Training
1. Prevention and Preparedness: Fire safety training is essential for preventing fire incidents. Employees who understand fire hazards and the protocols for handling flammable materials are less likely to engage in behaviors that could lead to fires. Moreover, training programs often include fire drills and emergency evacuation plans, ensuring that employees know how to act swiftly and safely in the event of a fire.
2. Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Many jurisdictions mandate fire safety training as part of occupational health and safety regulations. Compliance with these laws is crucial for avoiding legal penalties and ensuring that the workplace meets the required safety standards. Fire safety training helps organizations adhere to regulations and demonstrate their commitment to employee welfare.
3. Reducing Loss and Damage: Fires can cause substantial damage to property, disrupt business operations, and result in financial losses. Well-trained employees can act promptly to control minor fires before they escalate, minimizing potential damage. Additionally, effective training programs teach employees how to use fire extinguishers and other fire-fighting equipment, further reducing the risk of extensive damage.
4. Saving Lives: The most compelling reason for fire safety training is the preservation of life. Employees trained in fire safety are more likely to remain calm and make rational decisions during an emergency, leading to safer evacuations and reducing the risk of injuries and fatalities.
Key Components of Effective Fire Safety Training
1. Understanding Fire Basics: Effective fire safety training begins with an understanding of the basic principles of fire, including the fire triangle (fuel, heat, and oxygen) and the different classes of fires (A, B, C, D, and K). This foundational knowledge helps employees recognize potential fire hazards in their environment.
2. Identifying Fire Hazards: Training programs should teach employees to identify common fire hazards in the workplace, such as faulty electrical equipment, improper storage of flammable materials, and blocked escape routes. Regular hazard assessments and vigilant housekeeping practices are critical components of fire prevention.
3. Fire Prevention Strategies: Employees must learn practical strategies for preventing fires, including proper handling and storage of flammable substances, regular maintenance of electrical systems, and adherence to workplace safety protocols. Emphasizing the importance of not smoking in prohibited areas and ensuring that fire exits are unobstructed are also key prevention measures.
4. Emergency Response and Evacuation: In addition to prevention, fire safety training must cover emergency response procedures. This includes recognizing the sound of fire alarms, knowing the location of fire exits, and understanding the company’s evacuation plan. Conducting regular fire drills helps reinforce these procedures and ensures that employees can evacuate quickly and safely.
5. Using Fire Extinguishers: Training employees in the correct use of fire extinguishers is crucial. The PASS technique (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) is a standard method for operating fire extinguishers, and employees should have hands-on practice to feel confident in their ability to use this equipment during an emergency.
Implementing Fire Safety Training
1. Customizing Training Programs: Each workplace has unique fire risks and safety requirements. Customizing fire safety training to address these specific needs ensures that employees receive relevant and practical information. Tailored training can include site-specific fire hazards, emergency plans, and the location of fire-fighting equipment.
2. Engaging Training Methods: Interactive training methods, such as simulations, hands-on practice, and scenario-based learning, are more effective than traditional lectures. Engaging training sessions help employees retain information better and feel more confident in their ability to respond to fire emergencies.
3. Regular Refreshers: Fire safety training should not be a one-time event. Regular refresher courses help reinforce key concepts and update employees on new fire safety protocols or changes in the workplace. Ongoing training ensures that fire safety remains a top priority.
4. Evaluating Training Effectiveness: To ensure the effectiveness of fire safety training, organizations should regularly evaluate the program through assessments, feedback from employees, and performance during fire drills. Continuous improvement based on these evaluations can enhance the overall quality and impact of the training.

Norway, a member of NATO, is the third country to donate F-16 fighters to Ukraine
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 08/27/2023 - 09:28am Military, War Zones
NATO member Norway will donate F-16 fighters to Ukraine, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said on Thursday amid Kiev's difficult counter-offensive against Russia.
Speaking to the Norwegian news agency NTB in Kiev, where he paid a visit on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day, Gahr Store said that Norway will supply F-16 aircraft to Ukraine, but it will probably be less than 10.
Gahr said he informed the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, about the donation of the aircraft and that Norway would discuss the number of planes, as well as the transfer schedule with Kiev and other allied countries.
“But Ukraine can count on the contribution of Norway,” the prime minister added.
Norway would be the third European country, after the Netherlands and Denmark, to donate F-16 planes.
Ukraine has long asked sophisticated fighters to give it an advantage in combat. He recently launched a long-awaited counter-offensive against Kremlin forces without air cover, putting his troops at the mercy of Russian aviation and artillery.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6f80ece252598f35dcf121ec636c3062/46424ae506735169-97/s540x810/b91c4066ba6e43efe102b1bc193edd3eec5a93c2.jpg)
In February, oil-rich Norway announced that it would donate 75 billion crowns ($7 billion) to Kiev as part of a five-year support package, making Norway one of the world's largest donors to Ukraine.
The money will be divided equally between military and humanitarian assistance over five years, divided into 15 billion crowns (1.4 billion dollars) annually.
Gahr Store announced on Thursday that Norway would also donate anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine, saying that “air defense is critical to Ukraine's ability to protect both the civilian population and frontline infrastructure and military units against any type of Russian air attack.”
“This is one of the largest Norwegian donations of military material to Ukraine to date,” Gahr said in a statement.
The Norwegian government has long stated that it is considering sending F-16 to Ukraine. In January, Norway received the first of the 52 F-35s ordered. The new fighters will replace Norway's F-16 fleet.
Last week, the Netherlands and Denmark announced that they will donate F-16 aircraft. Denmark said it will provide 19 planes, while the Netherlands reported that it will donate 42 of the jets.
Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited several European countries, including the Netherlands and Denmark, but did not go to Norway.

International Firefighters Day
“The role of a firefighter in today’s society–be it urban, rural, natural environment, volunteer, career, industrial, defense force, aviation, motorsport, or other is one of dedication, commitment, and sacrifice–no matter what country we reside and work in. In the fire service, we fight together against one common enemy–fire–no matter what country we come from, what uniform we wear or what language we speak.” –LT JJ Edmondson, firefighter, and creator of Firefighters Day
Nobody could have put what it means to be a firefighter as well as this courageous woman did.
The History of Firefighters Day The first organized professionals whose job it was to combat structural fires lived in Ancient Egypt–however, at the time, firefighters worked for private companies that provided their services only to those who could afford them.
How to Celebrate Firefighters Day There are many great ways to celebrate firefighters on this day.
Wearing a ribbon, baking a cake or donating a few dollars to a charity may not seem like particularly impressive gestures to you, but they will likely mean the world to those who work tirelessly for their communities. So show the firefighters of the world a little gratitude and celebrate Firefighters Day with us!
