If you were to go on a cruise, what would your dream destination(s) be? For those who’ve been on one before, what did you enjoy about it? I’ve always dreamt of sight seeing in the tropics or visiting Mediterranean Europe. 🚢 From the acclaimed PEN-Faulkner Award-winning author of The Great Man comes a riveting high-seas adventure that combines Christensen’s signature wit, irony, and humanity to create a striking and unforgettable vision of our times. . The Last Cruise by Kate Christensen is a sly, romantic story that is perfect for thriller fans! So excited to partner with @doubledaybooks & @storygramtours - thanks so much for sending me a copy! To learn more or purchase a copy of your own, click on the link in my bio! 🚢 SYNOPSIS: The 1950s vintage ocean liner Queen Isabella is making her final voyage before heading to the scrapyard. For the guests on board, among them Christine Thorne, a former journalist turned Maine farmer, it’s a chance to experience the bygone mid-20th century era of decadent luxury cruising, complete with fine dining, classic highballs, string quartets, and sophisticated jazz. Smoking is allowed but not cell phones–or children, for that matter. The Isabella sets sail from Long Beach, CA into calm seas on a two-week retro cruise to Hawaii and back. . But this is the second decade of an uncertain new millennium, not the sunny, heedless fifties, and certain disquieting signs of strife and malfunction above and below decks intrude on the festivities. Down in the main galley, Mick Szabo, a battle-weary Hungarian executive sous-chef, watches escalating tensions among the crew. Meanwhile, Miriam Koslow, an elderly Israeli violinist with the Sabra Quartet, becomes increasingly aware of the age-related vulnerabilities of the ship herself and the cynical corners cut by the cruise ship company, Cabaret. . When a time of crisis begins, Christine, Mick, and Miriam find themselves facing the unknown together in an unexpected and startling test of their characters. 🚢 https://www.instagram.com/p/BlIqaQilifV/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=t0dlhyhl1eu

July TBR. I went for some not as chunky books this month since last month I read all the chunky books and some books with heavy topics as well, so needed something a bit lighter. 📚I used @booksnest’s fictionary prompts to create this TBR. 📚I’ve already dived into Shakespeare and the Countess and it’s very good #books #julytbr #nonfiction #fiction #historicalfiction #mystery #shakespeare #globetheatre #chrislaoutaris #mlrio #maggieofarrell #xochitlgonzalez #fionadavis #sallyrooney #colsonwhitehead (at Monterey, Massachusetts) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfhDZiROTPg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I LOVE listening to an audiobook while working in the studio. Hearing another artist's work while soldering silver or gold, setting diamonds or designing a new piece for a customer makes me feel a part of the creative community! 🎶💍👗📀✂🎨🎬 #lionsoffifthavenue #fionadavis #nypubliclibrary #writersofinstagram #writing #writer #creative #writersofig #creativity #create #read #reading #author #writerscommunity #writingcommunity #writings #write #writers #writeaway #writersnetwork #original #illustration #authorsofinstagram #character #characterdesign #artist #oneofakind #artistic #creator #makersgonnamake (at Kirkwood, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEowfq7Ha6P/?igshid=7kjj14a8raam

📚 BOOK REVIEW: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲𝗮 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 by Fiona Davis . 💌 My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️/5 . ✏️ My Review: This is a beautifully written story about two women who met while serving as entertainers to the US troops during WWII. Hazel Riley has big entertainment shoes to fill. She is the daughter of a well-loved entertainer but, despite all her efforts, she does not seem to get a break. Maxine Mead is a flamboyant actress who has secrets. Together, they will produce a play about their experience during the war. On opening night, Maxine forgets her lines and sank the show. Why would she do such a thing? This leads to a rift between the women and they both walk away. Fast forward twenty years, Hazel is leaving a peaceful boring life and Maxine is a Hollywood star. A fantastic event reunites them. It is not a happy reunion, but the truth finally comes out. . Based on true events about the Russian spy paranoia of the 40s and its impact of the entertainment community, this story resounds true and is a pleasure to read. . 👩🏼‍🏫 𝗤𝗢𝗧𝗗: How do you get rid of pesky phone calls from telemarketers? . . #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #book #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #bookphotography #thechelseagirls #fionadavis #bookreview #historicalfiction https://www.instagram.com/p/B8Q8JQZAvA7/?igshid=ep4wkrzklb04

Book I won, I have to figure out where I won it from lol! The Address by Fiona Davis '" on sale August 1, 2017 "" Description: Description Product Description Fiona Davis, author of The Dollhouse, returns with a compelling novel about the thin lines between love and loss, success and ruin, passion and madness, all hidden behind the walls of The Dakota—New York City’s most famous residence. After a failed apprenticeship, working her way up to head housekeeper of a posh London hotel is more than Sara Smythe ever thought she’d make of herself. But when a chance encounter with Theodore Camden, one of the architects of the grand New York apartment house The Dakota, leads to a job offer, her world is suddenly awash in possibility—no mean feat for a servant in 1884. The opportunity to move to America, where a person can rise above one’s station. The opportunity to be the female manager of The Dakota, which promises to be the greatest apartment house in the world. And the opportunity to see more of Theo, who understands Sara like no one else...and is living in The Dakota with his wife and three young children. In 1985, Bailey Camden is desperate for new opportunities. Fresh out of rehab, the former party girl and interior designer is homeless, jobless, and penniless. Two generations ago, Bailey’s grandfather was the ward of famed architect Theodore Camden. But the absence of a genetic connection means Bailey won’t see a dime of the Camden family’s substantial estate. Instead, her “cousin” Melinda—Camden’s biological great-granddaughter—will inherit almost everything. So when Melinda offers to let Bailey oversee the renovation of her lavish Dakota apartment, Bailey jumps at the chance, despite her dislike of Melinda’s vision. The renovation will take away all the character and history of the apartment Theodore Camden himself lived in...and died in, after suffering multiple stab wounds by a madwoman named Sara Smythe, a former Dakota employee who had previously spent seven months in an insane asylum on Blackwell’s Island. #theaddress #fionadavis #giveaways #giveaways
