Films the Crows would like:
Kaz: Trainspotting, Kill Bill, The Killing of a Sacred Deer (even though I think it's bad), Gone Girl, Parasite, Snowpiercer, A clockwork orange, Citizen Kane, Sin City, The Dark Knight, Tarantino films, the Godfather, Come and See, V for Vendetta, Prisoners, Silence of tbe Lambs, No country for old men, City of God, Shawshank Redemption, Kubrick's and Hitchcock's work (except lolita bc that's gross), Hunger Games Trilogy, All of Aronofsky's work (Black Swan, Requiem for a dream etc.), Memories of Murder, Donnie Darko, Fight Club, Taxi Driver, Oldboy, Blade Runner 2049,
As for series he would like Breaking Bad, Death Note, Aot and Vinland Saga, Berserk maybe, Prison Break but like only the first two seasons and The Walking Dead.
Inej: Ladybird, Little Women, Anna Karenina, The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette, Lost in Translation, Girl, Interrupted, Everything Everywhere all at once, Nomadland, The Florida Project, Alice in Wonderland (the Tim burton one), Hard Candy, In the Corner of this World, portrait of a lady on fire and Princess Mononoke. I can't really think of other ones to be honest.
I'm not really sure what series she would like. Maybe Ai Yazawa's animes? I'm not sure.
Jesper: Star Wars (the original trilogy and the prequels), Indiana Jones, Life of Brian, Ferris Bueller's Day off, American Pie, MIB, Terminator, Ghostbusters, Scream, Back to the future etc. He definitely likes fun adventure movies. Also a lot of animated movies like The Lego Movie and Lego Batman (masterpieces) and Pixar and Dreamwork's Movies (his favorites being Toy story and Shrek). Also Disney classics like treasure planet and Atlantis. Probably also western movies and he'd idolize Clint Eastwood.
Favorite Series are The Office, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo etc.
Wylan: Perks of being a wallflower, Ladybird, Howl's moving castle, Billy Elliot, Your Name, Dead Poet's society, Stardust, Narnia, La La Land, Lotr trilogy (his comfort movies), Call me by your name and all of Wes Anderson's movies. I think he'd be secretly a huge filmnerd who also loves A24 movies, David Fincher, arthouse movies etc. But I think he would be a bit embarrassed by it.
His favorite series are Doctor Who (David Tennant Version because that's the best one), Fargo and Good Omens.
Nina: A sucker for romance and chick flicks, especially romantic comedies. The Notebook, Mamma Mia!, When Harry met Sally, Mean Girls, She's the Man, badly written Netflix romantic comedies,
She likes reality TV and desperate housewives, sex and the city, friends and modern family.
Matthias: 1917, Saving Private Ryan, All quiet on the western front, Hacksaw Ridge, The Notebook, Dunkirk, John Wick movies and other action movies. My taste is completely different so it's very difficult for me to think of other movies he would like.
I don't think he would watch a lot of series because it takes up a lot of time. Not the guy to concern himself with entertainment and media really but does enjoy a good story.
Feel free to criticize me or suggest other media. Maybe I should also make a list about the music they'd like?
#kaz brekker would definitely be a film bro but he'd have a great taste so it's okay#I feel kind of embarassed about my headcannons idk why#do other people also experience shame when they have hc?#six of crows#crooked kingdom#kaz brekker#inej ghafa#jesper fahey#wylan van eck#nina zenik#matthias helvar

hey, do you want to cry? go watch that one scene in x-men:apocalypse. do it. but if you can, change the language to polish. trust me. i don't care you don't understand. the voice actor did a crazy good job.
that shit wrecked me. i was so... so. i couldn't look at the screen. twisted insides and pain.
dunno, maybe it hit me harder as a pole but. i was thinking. it could've been my dad. he would've used those words. "moje dziewczynki", he haven't called us (my sister and i) that in years, not that i want him to, we're not small children anymore (and both have weird relation with gender), but i think i remember him saying that or something similar. so. forgive me, i'm crying.
#shout out to Piotr Zelt#erik lensherr#magneto#nina gurzsky#magda gurzsky#xma#xmen apocalypse#x men apocalypse#it's surprising how much i have to say about this film and it was my least favourite (so far. haven't seen xmdf yet) movie of the prequels#and oh#the original?#chills.#beautiful and ground-shaking#but i've seen polish one first#sooo...#piotr zelt

I think you might find the mother-daughter sexual abuse angle in Black Swan of interest if you haven't already delved into that
yesss
I was really taken aback by their relationship when I first watched the film because the incestuous subtext was pretty blatant and I hadn't seen any discussion around it beforehand. The idea of the abusive mother is still pretty hard to register for certain people, so when you add sexual abuse into the mix, plus inflicted on another woman, it mostly disappears from analysis.
#asks#it made me absolutely crazy when I watched it at the time cause NO ONE was talking about it and I felt like I was just making connections#which weren't there#but so many things hint towards this interpretation and tbh it's not that surprising that it's an overlooked subject.#it's very often reduced as mommy issues as many relationships in other medias are without looking much further#(Sharp Objects for instance. like... how can you read the book and not see that. anyways)#Some of the interractions they have can be read this way (like the scene where Nina licks Erica's finger or 'are you ready for me?')#But the one where it truly clicked for me was when they showed Nina's room opened right after she wakes up from her night with 'Lily'#plus the 'Sweet Girl' during the sex scene#Tbh I can't really say if anything really happened between the two at this moment. but it's extremely telling to end the scene this way#The interpretation that Lily in this moment is a projection to think of somebody else while it's Erica who's truly there is plausible#However I don't know if Aronofsky thought of it that way. I think it was supposed to be read as an hallucination through and through and#given the incestuous undertones established earlier in the film it was more to be seen as a psychosexual/Freudian dynamic#But idk. Erica still violates Nina's boundaries repetively and says things concerning how attrative and sexually desirable she is#which are beyond the simple dominating role most people associate to her#SO YEAH ! I spent quite some time thinking about this relationship last year since I thought I was losing my mind at first#might have to rewatch Black Swan now...#black swan#my thoughts

Currently watching The Invitation (2022) on Netflix.
*when Evie Jackson escapes the blood-drinking Yorkshire family estate and runs to the nearest local’s house*
The local wife answers the door: “Jonathan! There’s a girl out here.”
The local husband: “Yes, hello. Mr. Harker here.”
The local wife: “Hello. [I’m] Nina Harker.”
Me, the book nerd:
#the invitation#dracula#bram stoker#ha!#very clever indeed#I was like ‘girl you need to get out of there now’ 👀#the subtle reference to Bram Stoker’s Dracula is probably the best thing about this film#jonathan harker#nina harker#book nerd#classic literature#gothic literature#19th century literature#leonardo dicaprio meme

apparently there's going to be a james baldwin biopic... what do we think
i think im. slightly worried
#there are sooo many biopics nowadays it is wall to wall biopics out there. biopics and live action remakes and marvel films that’s all…..#specifically though i dont think it’s inherently bad or anything but I’m just. the worry comes from how often these biopics are not good and#their portrayals of the people they are meant to be about lack. sensitivity or respect or accuracy because it’s#lost beneath the motivation to churn out another famous persons life story in order to make money from it#case and point i will. NEVER forgive them for what they did to Nina Simone#idk i think in general there are. too many biopics being made nowadays and too often they are. exploitative and not good but I’m also not a#film guy so. in terms of this one uhh. i guess we’ll see?#telegram#anon#idk I love james baldwin i think absolutely he deserves celebration. is a biopic the way to do this. genuinely idk#*case in. oh nevermind

2 & 34 for the film asks <3
Already answered 2!
34. An underrated movie?
The 2019 Carmilla adaptation gets some shit (and yes, okay, it's a bleak film), but it's really really good! You're supposed to feel bad by the end of it! You're suppossed to be all "fuck why did it have to end like that?"! It's ambiguous on the supernatural aspect (wink-wink Yellowjackets plug here), because that is what some of the characters think is what's going on, but you also still have enough deniability to say that "no, actually these girls were in love and you wanted some excuse to be evil".
It has a 2.8 rating on letterboxd and oof does it not deserve that.
thanks for giving me an opportunity to vent haha!
#nina talks film#like i get that people may not vibe with it#but it did something original with the source material (while actually sticking pretty close to it!)#and also provides commentary on modern-day discriminatory practices that some people might employ if their child/protegee was queer#i have a lot to say about it it left me reeling after my first watch

another challenge! interviewers maybe try showing a crumb of interest in the actors you're interviewing rather than simply asking them about their more famous colleagues!
#every nina hoss tár interview is at least 50% her being asked about cate#it's a film set in germany! heavily focused on german high-art culture! perfect chance to link her past filmography to this role!#god damn it even talk about how she always kills it on the red carpet if you have to!!! just let her speak about herself!!!#also because half these interviewers ALSO then have an interview with cate so like#just speak to her?#also they never ask cate's experience with her colleagues#cate is just a legend and usually finds a way to mention todd at least#jeantxt

rip kusakabe, you were taken too soon babygirl 😔💔
#raii talks a lot#the mob plots were soooooo much fun the way I would’ve watched an entire season about them#the family and rabbit town and the implications of the sports betting and the mayor’s place of work and#the less serious notes of “has flip ever not went through with a showdown against shirou bc it was Nina’s bday” and “b.na but it’s#mockumentary filmed in anima city starring those who work with the mayor/station/co-op#” Everything To Me

Funny how JG (the epitome of sexism in all of its forms) is worse at his own job than LR (a woman)
#sigh. IF ONLY THE JOB IN QUESTION WASN'T FUCKING [IDEOLOGY] PROPAGANDA#(I have to stress I am not calling LR a girlboss or something. I've read about the Nina Gladitz trial. LR fucking SUCKS)#but nevertheless the propaganda impact of her movies was insane. and JG didn't want to fucking finance her most popular one#''nobody will watch a movie about the olympics that already happened a while ago at the movies release''#oh yeah?? if you're so smart then why do so many 'x best classical german movies' lists keep showing this thing up my ass#like man I'm just trying to learn the language out of necessity I do NOT want to watch That#they also keep rating tDF highly as shit and it makes me so mad#I swear one of these days I'm gonna crack get myself a digital voice changer and film an hour long hate review of this abomination on yt#if this is everything german cimema has got then maybe I don't like german cinema

#this guy is a little overly nice towards the ppl in Tschaikovsky’s life—they’re all about as flawed as him#none of the characters are really Bad People but their combined failings lead to the tragic end of the film#still I’m glad that he points out Nina’s plight and the sympathy given to those Tschaikovsky hurt#bc those aspects do go overlooked
