When Lydia Tár is given the opportunity to be interviewed by Runway magazine she flys halfway across the world into the domain of Miranda Priestly.
Trouble is the conductor's attention has been caught by Miranda's very own first assistant, Andy Sachs, and Miranda doesn't take kindly to Tár flirting with her girlfriend.

TÁR (Review) - Unexpected
Tumblr media
Field, T. (2022). TÁR [Film]. Standard Film Company, EMJAG Productions.
Yesterday night, at almost one in the morning, I ended my day by watching TÁR. I've wanted something relaxing, actually, and I knew that musical movies tend to be vertiginous at best, but that one racked at my brain for months. When I've seen it in my list, something carried me towards it.
My knowledge before watching it? An orchestra conductor and it's troubles to "connect" with reality, or so I thought. My knowledge was scarce, to say the least.
As soon as it starts, with the way the credits are presented, it screams something along the lines of "Filmmaker Festival", needless to clarify that I say it as a compliment, as it searches to shake the public with experimentation and unconventionality. From then on, I knew I was in for a ride.
It was absolutely unexpected, from the long lasting scenes and shots (at the first half, a rhythm carefully made to crescent towards the end, which was a personal delight of sorts), to the themes broached on the whole film. The music was almost an excuse to talk about something else, something dark, difficult, leaving hints here and there until it becomes the main plot, and yet the musical spirit was carried which such delicacy throughout the film. Some of the orchestra conducting seemed strange to me at first, but then again, everything made sense in the end. Needless to say, Cate Blanchett's acting skills are phenomenal.
I will end this small review as a note of appreciation for the film, with something rather personal and silly, perhaps: I tend to fall asleep when I watch movies at the early hours of the day (I'm getting old, I use to say), and yet I was unable to tear apart my sight from the tv.
Until next time - A.D.

Yeah, I watched Tár, why are you asking?
But seriously, it’s a great movie and Cate was breathtaking as always.
