my favourite part of the eden questline so far has been Ryne's 3 dads giving her a pep talk for asking Gaia out on a date to hang out with her. then watching them pretend not to eavesdrop. Shura's doing squats. Urianger and Thancred approve of his technique. yes yes. they're definitely not listening to see if their girl is winning. are ya winnin' girlie??

Not so much about about the writers ask but seeing you mention Soukoku and FFXIV got me thinking - why Jobs do you think they main, and if you really want to go down this rabbit hole with me, what role do you think they would play in the FFXIV storyline ( I can’t stop comparing G’raha tias admiration for the Wol to Dazai when Chuuya uses corruption)

I'm picking up what you're putting down!! We're going ALL the way down this rabbit hole!!

I've thought about this a lot both in terms of FFXIV jobs and D&D, and I feel like if we wanna go by lore wise, I could see Dazai being a dark knight. (shoutout to that questline tbh) but Dazai's also just a Silly Guy™ and I can just as easily see him being a ninja and Chuuya points and laughs when he screws a mudra up and gets the bunny hat of shame. He's also the type that if he swapped to healer for faster queues so he and Chuuya could take turns leveling, Dazai would pick sage and he'd do funny dashing around to the tank and probably rescue-grief Chuuya in alliance raids. Don't trust him on healer BUT he's also just as likely to shirk Chuuya while on tank and Chuuya ends up getting aggro. I think it's better he stays a dps.

Chuuya's actually a chill team player, but Dazai will start shit and he'll give in to intrusive thoughts and try to get Dazai killed in return. Dazai would try out black mage to see if it was really as obnoxious to play as people say and if the leylines curse is a thing, so Chuuya makes sure it's a thing by baiting mechanics on Dazai so Dazai has to move out of his leylines. (Then there's just a audible sigh every time it happens)

I could see Chuuya playing gunbreaker, astrologian, and samurai. He'd like the first two for the high apm because it gives his hands something to constantly do in terms of rotation and he'd get bored quickly of slow, static rotations like summoner. He also likes juggling several things at once like buffing players and playing the 'how low can you go' with his teammates but never actually lets them die (once in a while he'll turn the other way if Dazai has a DoT ticking down and pretend not to see Dazai die). But also likes being the protector/first line of defense while also beating the crap out of enemies.

I actually really like the Dazai -> G'raha Tia parallel there!! I AM SO TORN. But Chuuya gives big Estinien vibes, even right down to the rivalry between him and Nidhogg. Because I can see Nidhogg being a parallel to Chuuya with corruption, and the loss of control. But also how he starts off as really standoffish and just doing his job as the Azure Dragoon, but then gradually warms up to the WoL and the rest of the team, even if he doesn't want to admit it.

Since you already mentioned G'raha, I won't cheat and say him again, but I can see Dazai being Thancred, both old and current versions! In fact, Dark Era Dazai fits old Thancred pretty well—doing his own thing, sneaking around, he acts suspicious and gets himself into trouble. And even Shadowbringers+ Thancred fits current Dazai, imo. How Thancred wants to protect Minfillia/her reflections as Ryne and isn't selfishly motivated anymore like he was when he was younger speaks to me.

Hey everyone. o/

I hope everyone's been enjoying the new expac. Unfortunately I come to you with some heavy stuff. My husband and I moved states last month, and while we're in a much better place now, we are still temporarily unemployed. We have some funds, but it's getting to where I'm having to make unpleasant choices, such as not paying my phone bill (the only way I have to contact pretty much everyone I know now) and car insurance (need a car to get a job so also not ideal). And I'm concerned about being able to get my cat and dog their food as well.

So I'm coming asking for help raising some funds. I'd rather do commissions but until plogons are back, this is mostly impossible, so I have to ask for donations.

My goal is to raise at least $200. If everyone that follows me and has enjoyed the posts I share and gposes I make gave one dollar I'd be nearly there.

For the Director's Cut: To The Edge (And Back Again)

Also, i just want to congratulate you on your exquisite taste of being an Elidibus fan. He is so <3

this dinged danged fic may be the best work i've ever published. it is, hands down, the one i am most proud of writing, and definitely the one i worked the hardest on. so many lovely little threads to pull together. i spent so much time reading so much lore, combing wikis, sifting through short stories with a fine toothed comb. listening to music. replaying cutscenes. i've never worked so hard to get the lore so right (and i still made some pretty big errors!). it is the most work i've put into a fic ever, and my only chaptered canon character centric work. in a way, it was my white whale. it is by and far the most popular fic i've ever written.

the shb patches gently and slowly broke me as the more we learn about elidibus through them the more he broke my heart. in the beginning i was furious about what he does to ardbert, and it quickly evolved and i felt awful by the conclusion. at the end of the trial the wol is putting down the remaining shell of a very broken man, angry and mad and absent the memories of why he is so driven, and in the throws of rage in his grief at being the last of the unsundered. there was no glory in that victory. nothing to take pride in. it is quickly apparent after anamnesis anyder that he is unwell. even y'shtola mentions that it seems like a mercy killing put in motion by emet-selch. i think the game meant for me to be very sad about one thing at the end of seat of sacrifice, but i was very, very wrapped up in elidibus' fate. the wol has no choice but to stop him, and the only way to stop him is to kill him. i was devastated that it came to that. perhaps being someone who suffers from psychosis made it personal. i couldn't say for sure.

and then after all of it, he gives the very last of his self, his essence, to send us back in time to do what he could not.

it was some time before i did the pandaemonium raids, and they smacked me in the face from the moment you drop into elpis. i became preoccupied with elidibus (and since i played them so late, i already knew the themis-elidibus connection). how did this clever, sweet, smart, driven, and oh so young man who valued his job and duty above all else, get to "i'm going to sacrifice myself to give life to god?"

more than that, the overarching story of ffxiv reinforces a falsehood that zodiark was corrupt, power hungry, and even the source of all evil right up until fandaniel actually corrupts him. this just is not true. even though the writers carefully leave us a trail of crumbs to lead us to question the in-world narrative of zodiark's motivations and morality, much of fandom blithely accepts hydaelyn's misleading of the wol and the word of the lopporits, who are unreliable, being literal creations of hydaelyn herself. the zodiark plan worked. the souls who sacrificed themselves saved the world, at least bought it time. and elidibus somehow got to a place where he felt it was his sole responsibility to bear it all.

it worked. and the burden broke him on the most fundamental level even before hydaelyn made her choices.

that journey gripped me so hard that i had to tell that story. i had to set the record straight in a way that satisfied me. the souls who fueled the creation of hydaelyn get to be literal gods. the souls sacrificed to zodiark are all but forgotten. we only know one of their names. elidibus fought until his last breath for them, for better or for worse. that has to matter.

and now i kill him at least once a week in the hopes of getting my hands on that "fleeting moments" orchestrion. i begged forced my free company to help me do the seat of sacrifice (extreme) so i could get the axe that drops.

so, thank you for this ask. i am so normal about elidibus in a way i've never been normal about another fictional character before.

Favorite song... Hard to pick but I think I'd have to go with the dragonsong! It makes me so fucking emo everytime. Ive started to make a playlist of all my fav FFXIV tracks as I go through the game though! You can listen to it here!

As for my favorite minion, wind up alpha without a doubt. I recently finished the omega raids and oh my god I would die for this fucking chocobo. The ending cutscene genuinely had me full on weeping. Very very good raids, which certainly was a nice change of pace after uhm... The everything of stormblood. (I have a lot of thoughts on this expac, most of them not that positive... Maybe I'll write a whole post about it.)

IC canon info Based off of the content of the ask, or if you specifically request a certain one, I will switch between three key time periods:

This would also be before Hephaistos takes the seat of Lahabrea, before Erichthonios exists, and before the Heart of Sabik's influence. She would be a mere researcher in the Words of Lahabrea...but still a top one at that.

☆ Chief Keyward ⛓️

This will be the most commonly used time period. For simplicity sake, it's the time period in which the Abyssos flashback takes place. Erichthonios has existed for a few years, Hephaistos is now Lahabrea and barely sees her, and she oversees her great facility... with nothing shady going on on the side at all!

☆ Anabaseios // Limbo 🌌

This would be a more theoretical time period. Simply set with my interpretation of her behavior at the finale of the raid series or a state of existence where the raid series has happened and somehow shes still able to interact with Erich, Lahabrea, Themis, etc. In other words this is the 'don't really try and make sense of this one' time period.

Athena is a bad person believe it or not! But, I (, Athena,) am don't think I personally am! She can be condescending, has a god complex, and with this being clarified I will do my best to not hold back on her characterization and how I think she'd actually reply to any asks I receive. This is a roundabout way of saying I don't condone anything this character does or the way I act IC. Though, this also applies to the rationalization of this blog! Obviously it'd be hard to be in a scenario where she'd even answer silly questions of any kind, and this isn't even mentioning the timeline jumping and limbo stuff. I like @scrollsfromarebornrealm very much indeed. They post lots of interesting things and I'm always really impressed by their Gposes, especially because of the use of lighting and shadows (see above). Plus their OCs are amazing I think! So as far as fantasies which Ifan wouldn't act on but do feature frequently in his daydreams, number one is probably scenarios which are lacking in or have dubious consent on his part. Giving up control is an area of huge vulnerability for him, and the idea of it being taken by force does have a certain dark appeal; daydreams are a way for him to explore situations where he's being coerced or conquered without subjecting himself to actual risk. Those sorts of scenarios also tend to feature heavily in roleplay between himself and certain partners, too.
