SPOILER FOR FF16 RISING TIDE
Tumblr media
WIP! Cuz I think he should have gotten to hold bebe Waljas longer (and proper. Clive you should KNOW you gotta support the head!)
I'm still debating whether to go for a more painterly approach (no lineart) or more semi-realistic

soz to be a Jote liker and someone who's super into reading between the lines, being delulu, and being unable to articulate thoughts, but I keep thinking about that line from Joshua between doing my studies and ~graphic design~ for my main day job.
"Without her sword, I would not have survived my journey across the realm."
It makes me wonder how terrifying Jote actually is in the context of her own narrative and what we never got to see. Yes, she isn't an eikon, but she sure is lethal in her own human, mortal way. She was travelling with him for a long time. There must've been plenty of training in the blade beforehand. It makes me wonder how young she started her journey in wielding steel. She didn't have a childhood in my hcs; it was drenched in teachings in worship, the soil and murder. And I do like to play into the Tonberry thing, just a little, but that's a story for another time. I like that destruction is in her wake, like a tonberry--but that's something I'll discuss later and more of a crack thing that I won't touch, that and that she is a character with many blades hidden on her person. So if you asked her to strip herself of weapons, there'd probably be about 12 taken off her--
Anyways, I'm rambling. She was a child soldier. That is my headcanon and it does make it a little more tragic. And there was a recent revelation in the book. She is a bearer, unbranded. This is crucial information that was robbed in-game. It explains a lot. I like the idea that... she was taught to murder in several hundred ways, to be lethal--to learn the properties of herbs, to poison and bring the sick back to wellness--so she didn't have to call upon her own gifts. Also, Joshua forbidding her from a young age to use those gifts because hello?? Being petrified is a fate no one should go through. Anywayyys... Murder. Weapon. This sums up my Jote. I can't think but I'll touch upon this later.
This brings me to another thought for the Jills out there. Jote and Jill training, teaching each other tricks in blades. Also. For the Cliveys. Sparring session between our muses please? It's on my wishlist.

Rough Draft of Akira's Final Fantasy 16 verse.
Mostly isekai'd / transported into the world, as in his magic doesn't have cost issues except for like getting a good nights rest. His age is between 18-19 and is after the Strikers sequel. He wears his phantom thief attire but sometimes doesn't have his overcoat on himself due to the clothing being somewhat an obstacle because it keeps getting caught on stuff.
Goes by the name Arsene, as this name is more in line with the world of Final Fantasy 16's setting. Can use the jump command despite not being a Dragoon class. Uses mostly knives as his melee weapon but can and will use his magic-like gun to defeat monsters and the like. The other weapon does raise some eyebrows but most are wanting to free the realm, too busy to really question it. Curse magic is his main ability but is shown to use other elements to his advantage.
Sometimes is the Dominant of Alexander, transforming into a living breathing castle and is good at being the ultimate defense. Not tied to an element and doesn't even have the penalty effects of normal Dominats. But does suffer from the ability to go back to his home world if he uses it for too long. Only uses the form sparingly.
If he's not a Dominant, then he has full access to his personas but still needs to level up to use the more powerful ones. He has to explain that no, these are not Eikons but demons / shadows that come from mankind, not from some god or otherworldly presence.
Joins the party and resistance before the battle of Drake's Head. No one really questions his existence and his quick thinking makes him tell everyone that he crossed from the seas beyond the continent like their leader Cid had done previously. Constantly wears a permanent smirk on his face, causing others to comment on how there is a guy smirking ( him ) and a guy scowling ( Clive ).
People that are warm to him right away are Jill, Gav and Cid. Clive takes a few months to come around but is appreciated of Akira's sometimes somber silence and quick wit with strategy, which is valuable all around, even in the battle field. Akira also quotes words and actions from the play Clive likes, taking the field as Mordu ( sp? ) and makes a really good villain. He quickly tries to know as much about this world as he can and is usually found near Harpocrates's location in the hideaway. Akira is still a huge charmer, even in this world. Too bad most of them are looking at Clive and his outfit.
What happens to him during the end game is purely speculation but he mostly makes it back home, despite all the connections he made in this world.

God bless. Fxvi has, in my opinion, the worst writing in the the series. There's just not one thing they didn't fumble.
I'm literally gobsmacked by how bad it is.
First warning, not counting the pre-release interviews which were awful, was Torgal The Wolf just... showing up 13 years later with Cid. So much handwavey logic goes into... a dog reappearing over a decade later.
And yet... that's a high point for the game so far.
Clive is such a blankslate protagonist--he feels like a knock off as Cloud but... with worst angst to work with.
The plot right now is about "atonement" but... the things Clive and Jill have to atone for are ???? Jill was literally forced to kill people and Clive... thinks he was possessed... by what kidn of seems to be an alien (??) and killed... everyone to ever exist. Like, babes, if you want a compelling narrative about owning up to the awful things you have done... this is such a weird basis to do that??
I know things Might be Revealed later on that can make this make more sense but I'm just........
What emotional investment am I meant to have with this?? Also, why did they start Jill and Clive's story with her as like... a 13 year old? I know he didn't see her that way then but still???
The only thing (plot wise) I have enjoyed is when the game randomly decided to make Clive naked and crying while Cid went "Babes, you're not my type." Fuckingn weird but at least it was fun yaoibait.
I am aghast rn
I literally cant get the shot of dead Benadikta out of my head... the rveal that she, too, was effectively a slave... just to pan in on a pendant left right above her boobs... and that's the last we see of her
I??????????
I???????????

Final Fantasy 16 Fire and Ice chapter spoilers under cut!
Clive being willing to go into a volcano with a major magic contamination problem if it's for Jill's sake is so important to me. He just asks for the logistics info and grabs his sword! Truly a ride-or-sod-off moment! Also, hm, wonder if Torgal is special in some way, considering that he can enter the contaminated zones without becoming a zombie.
Also, Jill's VA did a nice job with her escalation into screaming rage at the iron priest. It's a bit chilling just because she's a very quiet character who has previously mostly taken an even tone, but you get where she's coming from. Guy fucked up her life and held a ton of people's lives over her head, so yeah, screaming rage is very appropriate!
Also, no one dissuades her from revenge. That's pretty neat and makes thematic sense!
