Dion must be a CBU3 favourite because the way he survives his bossfight it's hilarious like!!!
Benedikta is killed by a berserk Clive with zero experience, Kupka becomes stone after eating one (1) crystal shard and can't even land a slap on Ifrit and then we have Dion who's slowly dying from the curse and having the worst day of his life and after:
-Slurping the entire Twin's mothercrystal
-Fighting two Eikons at the same time
-FLYING INTO THE FUCKING SPACE
-Casting not only flare but also mega flare, giga flare, TERA FLARE AND ZETTA FLARE
-FALLING FROM SPACE IN HIS HUMAN FORM????'
he manages to survive with only a cut on his forehead and with enough energy to throw his spear at his evil little brother LIKE
Dion is just built different there is no way he died in the battle against Ultima my man cannot be killed it's just a scratch he's fine trust me

I didn’t expect an actual canon gay couple in this game but it’s a nice surprise.
Also I’m super happy Dion and Joshua seem to be joining up. Because I like Dion. He seems like a genuinely decent dude unlike his dad and step mother.

i'm actually extremely pissed off at ff xvi's ending
truly the coward's way out narratively. entirely generic finish. ends up saying nothing besides 'friendships is my power.' also entirely gutless to have clive's father secretly be anti slavery all along when one of the first scenes in the game is a slave cowering before his son.
like??
god i'm so glad hte ff games are so distinct from each other nad lack the same teams working on them so the taint of this one will like... barely affect my enjoyment of the others but like...
character wise? barely any development i didn't even cry when peopel died because it's like... why should i care? i have been shown clive bonding with you for five seconds. i enjoyed the CONCEPT of a few characters but they were handled poorly
like dion being RIDDLED with guilt but then in his last moments he apologizes to his FATHER??? NOT THE CITY HE DESTROYED???
jill barely ever mentioning the whole... trafficking thing
jote not even coming up again like... where'd she go
narratively? cowardice and ultimately a generic "european fantasy" tale with a sci fi edge
this story lacked joy but also lacked emotional ties. it misses the camp of past ff titles and fills it with a grit that is so trend chasing it weighs exactly nothing.
everything is muddled. all this game says is like... free will exists, friendship is power, monarchy is fine though
i'm just?????
beautifully designed. some GREAT gameplay ideas and QOL stuff like being able to pause nad get more information
in so many ways, outside of the wretched boss battles, this is a masterclass of game design.
but it's a nice gift wrapped in dog shit.
i can't bELIEVE how pissed off i am rn

Title: Forever, My Treasure, My Star Category: M/F, M/M Pairing: Clive Rosfield/Jill Warrick , Dion Lesage/Terence , Joshua Rosfield & Jote    Fandom: Final Fantasy XVI Rating: Mature (May change)
Summary:
Valisthea continues to crumble under the weight of the expanding Blight, and those who remain after Origin's Mothercrystal fell from the sky are forced to find a way to survive in a land now bereft of magic. Jill saw it herself: the fires of Metia have gone out. The red star, the embodiment of hopes and wishes, is no more. And with it dies her heart. However, what if Metia's star didn't grant wishes? Rather, what if it was a beacon in which all of Valisthea's hopes and dreams coalesced – a powerful spell not unlike what Ultima had planned. But unlike Ultima's schemes, this power would herald the dawning of a bright, new age upon the world. ...If only its hero can find his way home... *** I'm still in the early stages of writing so tags will change. I haven't decided on Rating yet, so it's Mature for now. There might be sexy scenes later, but idk. I just want everyone to live and be happy, so we'll see where this goes!

Rough Draft of Akira's Final Fantasy 16 verse.
Mostly isekai'd / transported into the world, as in his magic doesn't have cost issues except for like getting a good nights rest. His age is between 18-19 and is after the Strikers sequel. He wears his phantom thief attire but sometimes doesn't have his overcoat on himself due to the clothing being somewhat an obstacle because it keeps getting caught on stuff.
Goes by the name Arsene, as this name is more in line with the world of Final Fantasy 16's setting. Can use the jump command despite not being a Dragoon class. Uses mostly knives as his melee weapon but can and will use his magic-like gun to defeat monsters and the like. The other weapon does raise some eyebrows but most are wanting to free the realm, too busy to really question it. Curse magic is his main ability but is shown to use other elements to his advantage.
Sometimes is the Dominant of Alexander, transforming into a living breathing castle and is good at being the ultimate defense. Not tied to an element and doesn't even have the penalty effects of normal Dominats. But does suffer from the ability to go back to his home world if he uses it for too long. Only uses the form sparingly.
If he's not a Dominant, then he has full access to his personas but still needs to level up to use the more powerful ones. He has to explain that no, these are not Eikons but demons / shadows that come from mankind, not from some god or otherworldly presence.
Joins the party and resistance before the battle of Drake's Head. No one really questions his existence and his quick thinking makes him tell everyone that he crossed from the seas beyond the continent like their leader Cid had done previously. Constantly wears a permanent smirk on his face, causing others to comment on how there is a guy smirking ( him ) and a guy scowling ( Clive ).
People that are warm to him right away are Jill, Gav and Cid. Clive takes a few months to come around but is appreciated of Akira's sometimes somber silence and quick wit with strategy, which is valuable all around, even in the battle field. Akira also quotes words and actions from the play Clive likes, taking the field as Mordu ( sp? ) and makes a really good villain. He quickly tries to know as much about this world as he can and is usually found near Harpocrates's location in the hideaway. Akira is still a huge charmer, even in this world. Too bad most of them are looking at Clive and his outfit.
What happens to him during the end game is purely speculation but he mostly makes it back home, despite all the connections he made in this world.

Some more Final Fantasy XVI impressions. The game is amazing and definitely one of the GotY candidates for me.

The way I started shipping phoenixflare is hilarious because it was all the Italian's dub fault!
When I saw Joshua's roadside scene with Jote I already knew that Dion had a boyfriend (who was his childhood friend) because I caught a spoiler on twitter, and so when Joshua started talking about Dion with his Italian voice so dreamy and full of emotions I thought "Oh fuck are we gonna witness their love story?!" and he just...kept using that tender tone every time he talked about Dion.
Joshua's italian voice really warped my perception of him because I continued to play the game while fully convinced he was painfully pining for Dion.

Haseo and Clive Rosfield, somewhat of a character analysis.
Playing Dot Hack GU again this month and then getting my hands on Final Fantasy 16, I can really see the parallels with Haseo and Clive as protagonists.
-
They both seek revenge on a person they think killed / put into a coma someone they are close to on a personal level ( Shino and Joshua ).
Both are very trusting and somewhat naïve before being backstabbed by those they had trusted. ( the players helping the newbie Haseo aka PKing him and Anabella's whole thing with Clive and his family ).
Are saved by a guy with powers, joins their cause and is also important to the plot. ( Ovan aka Corbenik ( Yata, Kuhn and Pi can also fit here although they more likely force their hand at Haseo than anything else ) and Cidolfus aka Ramuh ).
Both are part of the special units in game and participate in giant monster-like battles in certain parts. ( Epitaph User Skeith and Dominat of Fire Ifrit ).
Have to face their past and accept the truth ( Haseo's whole inner conversation with Skeith and Clive's inner battle with the shadow Ifrit ) and become into their own.
Hell bent on seeking revenge and doesn't care what it takes to get that job done, willing to do anything, even sometimes at the expense of others. Grows out of it during the events of the game and starts to cherish those who they have met throughout the story and become better people because of it.
Both had killed or in Haseo's case PPK'd many people to find leads or survived to get to their goal but also had saved a lot by taking out those who seek to harm innocent people. Are very morally gray in terms of typical protagonists.
Have facial tattoos ( while Haseo's is purely cosmetic this isn't the case for Clive but they both have this for a unique design) and can ride bikes / chocobos in the open fields, deserts, marshlands, etc.
Get physically / emotionally injured by other in games antagonists but somehow are allowed to live. Actually loses some fights with big loss outcomes but then picks themselves up and finally wins over the other.
Has a character that wants them to kill the other for a certain purpose and talks with grandiose or nonsensical rhetoric. ( Ovan and Barnabas Thamir ).
Both main romantic ships has them being involved with another powerful character important to the story ( Haseo with Atoli / Innis ( who he can marry in game ) and Clive with Jill / Shiva ( that have a certain intimate moment on a beach hehehe) ).
Have connections to flowers and what they symbolize to people most precious to them. ( Haseo with Honeysuckles and Clive with Cosmos / Daisies ).
Their outfits and looks change throughout the game and are quite 'edgy' in appearance. ( although Haseo goes through it because his job class allows this to happen ). They both have a black and red color scheme.
Saves the world due to an outwards threat and deals with anomalies destroying the structures and peace of the realm ( Haseo with Cubia / Aida / Cernunnos and Clive with the mothercrystals and Ultima ). Also has gods / goddesses and politics ( even though Haseo's politics aren't that important to the overall story ).
Has antagonists that eventually join their side ( Haseo with Endrance and Clive with Dion ) and loses party members ( Haseo with Alkaid and Clive with Cidolfus ) vowing revenge on who was responsible for it.
Both get new hub-worlds ( Haseo does this four times while Clive only does this once ) with upgraded abilities and places to explore and have animal mascots ( Haseo with Death Grunty and Clive with Torgal ).
Have to look into themselves to summon their powers / and or give themselves a pep talk to draw out their potential to help defeat whoever they are facing. ( Haseo saying 'I'm right here Skeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiittttthhh! and Clive saying / paraphrasing 'Come on. I need it again. To summon Ifrit' ).
Gameplay is somewhat similar too. With the jokes about Square ripping off Bandai Namco, which is also the maker of Dot Hack as a whole, I can see the comparison clear as day.
-
In all, I think I like Clive as a protagonist is that he shares a lot in common with Haseo. Both their character growth is great. While Haseo takes more time to melt than Clive, they really are amazing protagonists that have more of a moral gray background than others in the RPG genre.
If someone has more examples, feel free to contact me to edit this post. Okay to reblog from me, just be kind about it. Oh if you haven't yet, I suggest playing Dot Hack GU, you won't regret it. Thank you for reading. <3
