One day I will be able to not hit the "Unfollow" button and panic smash the "Follow" button again instead of clicking on the ask button right away.
Today is not that day.

"The world changed. It doesn't mean you have to."
Those were... words that sounded so philosophical. And they were hard to grasp. Kihel's head tilted to the side a little, mustering the Bearer with a questioning look. The world was... constantly changing. It seemed like it was never stopping any more, when everyone just needed a break.
But maybe Miles wasn't talking about her...
Gently lifting her hand and letting her fingers draw along the mark they had put on his face, Kihel frowned before she whispered her question.
"Did they change you with this?"

"Perhaps in this case, death is merely an inconvenience."
Kihel knew better than to speak up when people like this lady talked. She had a certain air surrounding her. Regal. Aloof. Above so many else. Whether she was royalty or not... it was hard to tell. Surely she was connected to them in some way, even if Kihel didn't recognize her face from any paintings or scrolls about those who rules over everyone else.
Though the way she spoke so non-caring about death...
It made the girl quip up after all.
"Death is never just an inconvenience!", she exclaimed, almost seemingly angry at those careless words, "It is sad. And tragic. And it is dark and leaves only grief and hurt for those left behind..."

@embersbcrn -> People die. It happens. Sometimes they even die twice.
The first half of the lady's statement Kihel could understand. Because it was a sad truth she had witnessed herself over and over again. But the second part of what she was saying...
The young girl looked up to the woman with the dark hair and knit her eyebrows together.
"How can someone die twice?"
What a strange saying. Though surely she knew more about the world than Kihel did. She looked like a warrior. She had silently accompanied the blond man with the bad cough. Kihel wondered where he was. But she was sure the lady wouldn't let him stray too far without her.

He bought the elixir! Kihel was excited for that. Of course she was happy that this would mean she could eat for a day or two, but she also was relieved that she could help this man. Her little concoction would work. She had learned from her mother, brother and grandmother. It was easy, really. Valerian would help this giant man to find rest.
"I... hope so. I am just travelling with the other refugees. Away from where the wars are. I lost my brother in the way... I hope to find him again later. He has to be on the road, too."
Kihel shrugged a little, though she really worried for her sibling, there was not much she could do right now. And so far she had made it... somehow.
Counting the coins he had given her, Kihel perched up with a bright smile before holding her hand out with three of the coins still on her palm.
"Thank you, kind Sir, those are too much, though! You gave me more than enough!"
Alexander could feel his heart sink. Or something very similar to the sensation, given his unusual situation. It didn't feel right. He wasn't certain how old she was, but she had such a young face, that of a child.
That she was alone didn't seem to bother her one bit.
"Travelling?" he questioned, though the conversation didn't inch much further than that because suddenly she held up a small vial all proud. It was a pretty little concoction. Unusual. She had crafted it herself?
He gently took the vial and held it up to the sunlight, even gave it a small shake. Head tipped, he gave a nod, a little too trusting. She could have handed him her deadliest poison and he'd be none the wiser.
"Seems like you know a lot about all that medicine and stuff. Are you travelling somewhere to learn more, perhaps to your family...?" He patted his side down and located his coin pouch, relieving it of a few pieces. Though he was by no means exorbitantly rich he did well enough being a sell sword. Even if the majority of his customers seemed to be merchants these days, no bandits had attacked any of the caravans he accompanied, the size of him was warning enough.
Though a little mite like her? One strong breeze looked enough to carry her away.

Kunsel. And he had once been a SOLDIER. That sounded strange, and Kihel was quite sure she should be staying wary and not trust these words just-so. She didn't want to regret any trust she put into others.
He had been kind. But ShinRa also had acted kind to so many people before they destroyed and took their homes.
So far the people with such tattoos had always meant grief and death.
Slowly getting up, Kihel tried to gather her leather bag with the medicines and ointments. The strap of the belt had broken in the raid that had come over the camp and most of the vials were empty after she had tried to help as many as she could. Most hadn't made it. She had had too little to offer and too slow.
"... why did ShinRa do this? They sent SOLDIERs, too. They sent people with tattoos like yours..."
Continued from X.
Shit, they're intel on this had been half-a-day behind, or maybe even the entire day. The settlement was small, but it had been loud and in Shinra's way and now it lay in ruins. The tents and small huts burned out and the dead lay in the mud where they had fallen in the attack.
The people here had been vocal in their disdain for Shinra and refused to move from the land they'd inhabited, which had been immensely rich in lifestream springs.
Giving a quick glance to Glenn, Kunsel fell into the familiar routine of checking the bodies for any signs of life. He heard the girl before he saw her huddled by a rocky outcrop; her small sobs gave her away to his hearing.
"Hey, it's gonna be okay. We'll get you somewhere safe." He approached slowly, crouching down and checking the child over for any injuries and helping wipe the tears from her face. The terror in her expression was obvious and the way she froze, voice a strangled whisper. Kunsel's eyes dropped to his tattoo and his shoulders sagged at the realisation; she knew SOLDIERs as Shinra's weapons.
"I used to be, back when I was a kid like you." No point in lying to the terrified girl, so he knelt down in front of her and held his hands up, nodding towards Glenn and Matt. "- but the resistance saved me when I was hurt, helped me see that Shinra was evil ... so I joined them."
"I promise I'm here to help, my name's Kunsel."

Finally someone who didn't just walk past or just gave a shake of their head as answer. Kihel wasn't solely trying to make some coin, she really believed in her ointments, she knew they helped! And in times like these, people needed a lot of healing...
Looking up at the tall man, she smiled - her own much brighter than his careful one.
"Sleep... of course!", she was already opening her leather bag searching through it, making little flasks and bottles clack and clinker in there.
The second question was quite unimportant to her, and she was still busy searching for the correct medicine: "I am. I sell my own potions travelling through."
Finally finding what she had looked for, she proudly held up the small vial. It contained a fluid that looked like weaved from the moon with blue and violet swirling inside.
"A drop or two of this beneath your tongue before you lay down and you will fall asleep quickly and wake up refreshed the next morning. I promise!"

[ rainfall ] sender finds receiver out alone in the rain
Rain was a two-sided thing. Kihel felt a little cold and miserable herself in it, but she knew the earth needed it - especially all the plants and herbs that now had the chance to sprout and grow more. The exact ones he was now searching for and picking from the moist ground of the forest.
There had not even been a noise to give the other's presence away - he just suddenly was there when she looked up again from picking some sage, making her startle into a freeze.
She recognized him. From countless posters she had seen, propaganda for ShinRa. For SOLDIER.
Silver hair and eyes that glowed like Mako.
But... wasn't he dead? Hadn't he died years ago? The great hero, lost to all...
Standing there, her hands clawed into the weaved basket, only the rainfall making noise, before Kihel found her voice again.
"... are you a ghost?"

"Every story has a beginning, but no story truly has an end." // from terence at @stormandash
Those words sounded like the knight had taken them from a very old book. One that taught you about philosophies and life itself. Kihel wasn't so sure whether he actually had - but the words were enough to make her trust him a little more. He had claimed to have been sent by Dion, the man she had found hurt in the slums and helped back on his feet. The man with the spear and golden hair. She had known who he was... but it surprised her that Dion apparently had remembered her.
Avoiding Terence's look a bit, Kihel then finally looked up to him. She had one question in return that had burned in her chest ever since that last battle that was meant to change the world. And Terence would be the only one to know the answer.
"... Prince Dion's story hasn't ended either, right?"

[ wipe ] sender wipes away receiver's tears
She had learned to be afraid of SOLDIERs.
They were treated like heroes - but they were also made to kill and hurt. She had seen it herself. Had seen what kind of hurt ShinRa could cause through their armies.
Kihel had not recognized him at first. Her view was far too hazy through her tears when the rebels arrived to help the people of this camp. The resistance had helped them, rescued them even. And now this kind rebel knelt in front of her and even wiped away her tears, offering kind words of comfort.
Kihel's sobs stilled, though when she leaned back to wipe her hands over her face, her eyes fell to the tattoo on this man's wrist and she froze.
Staring at the man, she didn't know how to make sense of it. That tattoo. Only SOLDIERs had it. But he wore the resistance's clothes. Was he a fraud? Was he here to cause more chaos? His eyes, too. They were not any natural color.
But the girl could only stare at the man in silent fear. If she yelled, would he try to silence her? If she tried to run, would he stop her with violence? She didn't want to risk it. But her nature forbid her to keep quiet, either. Her voice just a whisper over the general buzz of the aftermath around them.
"You're from ShinRa, aren't you?"
