So I was planning to do a post that said, "Fuck you! *medievals your Lawlight*" until I started researching how to dress them and make their hair look. My idea for L is that he had his hair cut into some kind of normal style at some point but let it grow way out into a big shaggy mess, and that he wears a mix of eastern and western clothing depending on comfort. For Light, however, things got tricky. All I could find for hairstyles and clothes were from the Edo period, when many men fashionably adopted the samurai hairstyle (shaved on top+man bun). However, that's a few centuries after what in going for, so I don't know if it was worn outside of the samurai class in the 14th century. In addition, I'm not sure if a 17-18 year old would have worn adult hairstyles and clothes or not. I found something about Wakashu, but a) it's kinda creepy and b) again, that's more 1600s-1700s.
So I guess what I'm asking is, History Side of Tumblr, what are some hairstyles and clothing styles worn by 14th century Japanese males in their late teens?

Shogun (2024)
Based on James Clavell’s novel, FX’s Shōgun is set in Japan in the year 1600 at the dawn of a century-defining civil war. Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him.
Caught in between, is John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), an English sailor who finds himself marooned on the land of the rising sun. And how his fateful encounter with Lord Toranaga and Lady Mariko (Anna Sawai) would change his destiny.

While the characters are fictional, they are based on actual historical characters. Take for example, the three main leads:
Yoshi Toranaga is inspired by Tokugawa Ieyasu.
John Blackthorne is inspired by William Adams.
Toda Mariko is inspired by Hosokawa Gracia.
I enjoyed the 1980s film of the same name which is based on the same book and would very much look forward to watch this.
A tumultuous time where a rising Shogun attempts to unify Japan while Europe is at war between Catholics and Protestants.

I fucking hate how video games have made people talk about military history like there's a meta. It completely ignores the context any given culture is arming it's warriors with, and why someone would use the weapons they use.
Like, for one example: ninja vs samurai is such a common discussion among a certain type of nerd. Which is really funny when you take into account that one is a train soldier armed with battlefield weapons, and another is a spy wearing black street clothes that hide their appearance and wielding common tools that can used as weapons. It's like if 400 years from now people are arguing weather a fully armed navy seal could beat an assassin in a hoodie armed with a wrench. Not all of the examples are that silly but you get my point.
I also hate how this seeps into ttrpg design, and you have people designing games where are healer is as good at dealing damage as someone whose only still is sword.
