Arrived in America just in time to try these Chinese chicken cookies(???), which apparently are made with pork fat instead of butter. Huh! They have an excellent crumbly texture with a crisp outside, and they're tasty, sweet but mildly savory. I'd never had a savory cookie before.
The one thing is that there's a spice taste I can't identify, so it's hard to tell if I like them. Have you ever taken a sip of soda thinking it was water and it tastes terrible and frightening but then you realize it's not water and it tastes fine? It's like that; if I could place the flavor, I think I'd probably really enjoy these. My dad loves them, anyway.

Having an odd/“rare” allergy sucks in of itself, but it also being something that is basically apart of everything???? Makes it a thousand times worse. It’s a constant “on today’s episode of what am I allergic to?” The answer is cough syrup and now I have to message my doctor to find out what I can take when I am a little sick

i love tofu! what’s the recipe you like?
not something special, smoked tofu cut it in thin slices with some paprika, turmeric, garlic powder and olive oil and i just put it in a pan until it gets crispy and then eat it in a tortilla wrap
i also tried this recipe with a few modifications and it was nice

Rustic no-knead blueberry bread
This is a crusty, no-knead, sweet-savory bread that pairs blueberries with spices and herbs inspired by West Asian cooking. Fennel, anise, sesame, and mahlab powder are reminiscent of the دُقَّة كَعْك ("duqqa ka'k"; cake powder) used in pastries, while za'tar and caraway skew more savory.
The long rise yields a well-fermented dough with a robust flavor that stands up well against the sweetness and pungency of the fennel and aniseed. The result is a jammy, complex, aromatic boule.
This bread has an open, irregular crumb, great for slicing, toasting, dipping, or spreading. Try it with labna and honey, olive oil and za'tar, or a spreadable cheese. I've also made sandwiches with thick slices of this bread and fried, glazed tofu drizzled with tarator and topped with Iraqi mango pickles, to excellent effect.

Makes one medium-sized boule.
Ingredients:
3 cups (360g) bread flour
2 tsp kosher salt
1/4 tsp dry active yeast
2 tsp mahlab powder (optional)
1 tsp fennel seed + 1 tsp aniseed, coarsely ground
About 1 2/3 cup water (room temperature)
1/2 cup firm fresh blueberries
1 Tbsp za’tar (wild thyme), crumbled
Additional fennel seeds, aniseed, caraway, and sesame, to top
Mahlab (محلب) powder is the ground-up pits of Mahleb cherries. It can be purchased at a halal or specialty spice store.
Za'tar (wild thyme) can be found in dried form at a halal grocery store. Note that the spice blend, which includes wild thyme, sumac, sesame seeds, and other spices, will also be labelled "za'tar." If you don't have or can't locate any of the herb itself, use any dried woody herb of your choice (e.g. rosemary, thyme, sage), chopped.
Instructions:
1. Making the dough. Measure flour into a large mixing bowl. Add salt, yeast, seeds, and thyme and stir to combine.
2. Gradually add water until a soft, sticky dough forms. You may need more or less than 1 2/3 cup.
3. Flatten dough in the bowl and top with some of the blueberries. Fold the dough to enclose the blueberries, add more blueberries on top, and fold again. Repeat until all blueberries are incorporated.
4. First rise. Shape dough into a ball and place in the bowl seam-side down. Pat the top of the dough with some olive oil and cover the bowl with a kitchen towel. Allow to rest at room temperature for 16-20 hours.
5. Shaping. Gently remove the dough from the bowl and allow it to deflate. Shape the boule by folding an edge in over the center, rotating the dough slightly, and repeating until you have gone all the way around.
6. Flip the ball over so the seam side is down. Place your hands on either side of the dough and then move them down towards the base of the boule, tucking some of the dough under and towards the seam, to tighten the top of the ball. Rotate the ball slightly and do this again, repeating until you've gone all the way around a couple times.
This is the basic method for shaping a boule, lightly adapted to avoid breaking any blueberries. If any of the blueberries start to pop out of the surface of the dough, just press them back in.
7. Second rise. Place your boule on a piece of parchment paper and cover with a kitchen towel. Allow to rise for 1-2 hours, until noticeably puffy.
8. Baking. Place a Dutch oven in your oven and preheat to 450 °F (230 °C). Remove the Dutch oven and place the boule, along with the parchment paper, inside. Put the lid on the Dutch oven and return it to the oven. Bake for 30 minutes.
9. Remove the Dutch oven's lid and bake bread for another 20 minutes, or until the crust is deeply golden brown.
To bake the bread without a Dutch oven, preheat a baking tray in the center of the oven, while preheating a skillet (rated to at least 450 °F) in the bottom; once preheated, transfer the bread and parchment paper to the tray, and pour a few cups of water in the skillet; bake for 30 minutes. Remove the skillet and bake another 20 minutes until golden brown.
Allow the bread to cool completely before cutting into it to avoid creating a mushy texture.

I thought the "be gay, do crime" memes were a joke about the criminalization of queer identities, but apparently they're not?
Some fujo discource crossed my dash and I thought it was weird that a website full of people who joyously reclaim the concept of their identities being criminal would freak out at the idea of people self labeling as "rotten women".
Which was a weird way to find out that the "crime" in the memes is supposed to be shoplifting and vandalism and other teenage "acting out" behavior, and it was never a radical queer statement to begin with.

It would also be nice if people grasped that 腐 shows up not just in 腐る but in 豆腐, and 腐女子 sounds the same as 婦女子.
It's not rotten like morally depraved. It's literal mold or fermentation or fucking tofu. And a pun on 'respectable woman'.
The reason it got reclaimed is probably because it's fucking funny.

aita for throwing out expired food from the family fridge?
I (17F) live with my dad (54M) and my mom (53F), but my mom works out of the country a lot. My dad is normal and seems to have a sense of shame(? for lack of a better word) when my mom's at home, but when she's working abroad, sometimes for months at a time, my dad kinda spirals. Necessary background is I'm also mildly immunocompromised.
When mom's home, he never does weird stuff, but once she's been gone for about 3 weeks, he starts getting weird.
He does things like cut mold chunks out of (soft) cheese and then put it back in the fridge, and once full on tried to convince me that so called 'live foods' like yogurt and kefir and tofu don't expire because 'they're already fermented' and putting expiration dates on them is either (when he's being more normal) a technicality/regulation or (when he's being weirder) a lie by Big Grocery™ to sell more food (for those who aren't familiar, live foods are fermented in specific ways with very specific bacteria, after they expire they go bad with things like mold just like any other food).
I've tried ignoring it and just not eating it, but it was making the other food in the fridge go bad faster and my dad started getting food poisoning symptoms, also my dad wouldn't buy new food if there was an expired one still in the fridge. Also, with things like the cheese, when he puts it back, I risk eating moldy food without realising it cuz there's no way to tell a mold chunk was cut out until I bite it and taste mold alos on multiple occasions, I've said I tasted mold in something and my dad has lied saying he didn't do this, only for me to see the moldy cheese trimmings in the garbage later when I'm throwing something away.
I've talked with my dad about this and it always goes something like this:
My dad: *drinks a pintglass of expired newman's own lemonaid*
*15 minutes later*
Dad: *coming back from the bathroom* I just had explosive diarrhea.
Me: You know how you drank a glass of expired lemona—
Dad: And it's delicious!
Me: Well, I'm just worried it's making you sick...
My dad: *5 minute rant about Big Grocery™*
Anyway, I started just throwing out the expired stuff, but he'd take it out of the garbage, even when there was something nasty on it, like used coffee grounds or 12 hour old egg shells dripping salmonella-y egg. So I started opening the containers of expired food and spilling them into the garbage bag (they're hefty bags, so it's not making a mess in the can) and sometimes I'd put a handfull of (clean/unused) cat litter into the bag too if it was something like bad produce (think limp carrots or slimey lettuce) so he couldn't just rince it and put it back.
Then I cleaned the fridge with bleach spray and now things aren't going moldy as fast and we have so much more room in there (I didn't get rid of anything but expired food, I wiped non-expired containers off with the bleach spray and put them back), also, my dad's stomach problems have stopped.
I still don't think I did anything wrong, since I know my mom would have done this the second she came home and my dad wouldn't have objected, but since I did it, he yelled at me for wasting money, called me a stooge to Big Grocery™ and compared me to his brother, who thinks leftovers go bad in the time it takes to drive home.
