Aaaand one for galeheart:
Feresy
n.
the fear that your partner is changing in ways you don’t understand, even though they might be changes for the better, because it forces you to wonder whether your relationship needs a few careful nudges to fall back into balance, or perhaps is still as stable as ever, but involves a person who no longer exists.
guidance
bg3, gale/shadowheart, ~2000 words
At times, she can pretend the lines, and the orb they come from, aren’t there. Since they’ve arrived in the city, he’s been wearing a cloak around his shoulders to ward off the chill that seems to come from the water, especially in the early mornings when a fog sits on the surface of the river, rolling along with the softly moving streams. The cloak is clasped around his neck with a pin they found somewhere. It covers the wispy evidence of his folly. She can only see the lines along his cheek if he looks directly at her. And recently, he’s been looking up, toward the city, and the decorated domes of the wizard shop they’re slowly making their way towards.
Shadowheart isn’t sure what they’ll find. But Gale seems to be. And something in the way he keeps looking up toward the shop has her clutching her hand close to her chest. But her spell has long since faded, and she can’t yet muster the energy to draw it out again.
Shadowheart casts guidance.

✧ feresy: the fear that your partner is changing in ways you don't understand, even though they might be changes for the better.
Tales of the Gautier Estate
--------------------------------------------------------
He wondered to himself if this was how she felt seeing him attempt to wriggle his way into a set of customs that were at times completely at odds with him.
Muted colors replaced with vibrants that must have wasted so much pigment, gold that could easily supply so many for a life time.
It didn't fit him. They enjoyed their time but she was not soft nor was she a liar. She'd told him outright she hated it.
He didn't hate it…it was simply…different. The gentle tan that kissed her skin had been replaced by snowflakes that made her jump and shiver every time they touched bare skin. The time they spent huddled together, such a far cry from the way they barely even locked their pinkies together as they walked the streets of her father's territory.
It terrified him. Her strength was still its own class, nothing of her abilities had changed…but she had. A personality that seemed like fire scorching all within its path had been tempered.
Tempered with the expectation he would keep it ablaze.
Grateful was he whose people had no issue acclimating to her, knowing that she would care for them as if they were her own.
Too weak…time meant towards training had been spent elsewhere , traversing from village to village, doing as a noble should.
He was happy. There was no reason to spoil this. As it was, there was no better way.
Yet he was not. Spells and strikes that once may have knocked him down seemed barely to scratch. Stamina that once kept with his gave out while he still felt as if full.
He wouldn't press this, he couldn't. She was strong, that was indisputable.
She wasn't weak, she couldn't have been.
It egged at him. He couldn't let the thought go.
  Was she weak now?
……
 Perhaps…she was.

The dress in the drawing is a feresi, a Karelian women's dress that consists of a shirt, dress with suspenders and an apron. The details and colors are quite free for the maker of the feresi to choose (my mom for example has a bright pink apron with colorful lace). Usual prints or patterns for the fabric are small flowers and plaid.

One of my closest friends is from the same theater group as me and we sort of made a pact yesterday. The group have a fancy university related party coming up next spring which we're both attending. I've been thinking of making "vintage fairytale prince illustration" inspired outfit for it and my friend has been thinking of making a feresi dress since she's Karelian so we shook hands that we would both be required to pull through.
I guess I have to finally decide what kind of velvet tunic I want to make...

This might be really invasive so dont answer if u dont wanna but have u had issues w looking gay while wearing a gákti? Like having a dyed hair etc? Does it feel strange? Im an NB lesbian and have piercings and shaved hair but I like wearing a feresi (karelian dress) but I'm trying to find like a balance between looking like ME but also looking respectful? I'm too scared to wear it outside family gatherings but I'm also scared that it's like disrespectful to my grandma? To look Gay & Traditional
It’s not invasive at all dont worry!
I haven’t had any issues with it. I don’t have experience with other cultures relationship with traditional clothing so I can’t compare but saami people are really relaxed about it. Also I’m basing this on the saami culture where I live, there’s a LOT of variations between groups in different areas. The way I’ve been raised to see it is that the gákti is the most beautiful and important outfit you own, but it’s more of a “wear it often because it’s important and using it is a celebration of it and your cultural identity” thing instead of an “it’s important, so you have to save it for special occasions and be respectful of it by following these rules for how you wear it”. You can just wear it to the grocery store if you feel like it lol. My grandma was very involved in indigenous activism and politics and she’d wear it to meetings because it made her feel powerful, and I know things like that is very common to do. I have that kind of relationship to it too, I’ve been taught to wear it as something to give me strength.
There really aren’t a lot of rules with how you wear it either. It’s super common and considered a good thing to wear parts of your gákti and the accessories on an everyday basis, like wearing a luhkka and the shoes with a regular outfit like jeans, I do it all the time! I also wear my earrings to work and other saami people get excited about it and talk to me about it. A lot of old saami ladies will be wearing at least one saami thing almost every day (my grandma for example).
There’s also a whole thing with saami fashion where people make modern versions of gákti (often to wear in the summer) with lighter fabrics and you can use bright colored fabrics or super busy floral patterns and other fun prints it’s really cool. I guess it’s not really fashion like you can’t buy it, but it’s the same thing with regular gákti that you gotta have it custom made for you by a saami person. But the point is it’s unique to you and it’s okay to make it any way you want, I’ve literally seen lgbt saami people make sequin covered gáktis and stuff with rainbows lmao
I don’t really have a lot of advice for this because my experience is like this and im sorry for just rambling about gákti instead of actually answering the question but I got excited and now I wanna wear it<3
I guess what I’d say is that I don’t think it is possible for it to be disrespectful to just wear it while looking and being yourself. Like you’re not even changing anything with it, you’re just wearing it while being you. And if that’s somehow disrespectful, that implies that being gay is disrespectful to your traditional dress which is 110% not true. I can’t tell you how you feel, but I think that if I altered my appearance or tone down the gay vibes to wear something important in my culture, it would take away from the happiness I get from wearing gákti because it would make me feel bad about my identity as a gay person, and make gákti something that represents that for me. Does that make any sense?
Anyway, I hope you can find a way to express both of those things together in a way that feels comfortable for you. I can’t give any specific advice because I don’t know the culture surrounding that dress or the “rules” for it, but I think that at the end of the day it’s probably more important to consider the feelings you have around it than to find ways to alter either the dress or yourself to fit. I don’t know if this was in any way helpful but I’m sending good vibes I hope you figure it out<3

POCKETS AND EMBROIDERY: In traditional European folkwear, pockets are decorated with zigzag stitches, strips of colour and shiny beads or buttons to confuse evil spirits and offer protective services. In Romania, the floral patterning around pockets is known as "feresi" (windows) to imitate the decoration placed around windows to protect occupants from demons and illness. The use of the colour red in Eastern European embroidery is associated with magical properties and is effective against witches. For an outfit based off European folkwear I wanted to incorporate all these little elements into the details of the garment. This person and the things in their pockets should be well protected against all nefarious things now! #pockets #embroidery #handembroidery #red #redwork #varushka #empirelrp #larpoutfit #costumecommission #costume https://www.instagram.com/p/CLE3yD2Dlto/?igshid=9cg13mvcmjwu

Races: the Feresi
Persai Persai translates roughly to water-fairy, reflecting the aquatic lifestyle, habitat and marine origin of their race but further insight into their history remains undisclosed to outsiders. These creatures differ in physical appearance as do the variations of fish within the rivers through and oceans surrounding Vennadore but share a few common characteristics; all Persai possess twin breathing mechanisms, gifted both with gills and lungs allowing survival beneath and above water although the latter is strictly limited. All possess webbed hands, flowing tails of numerous colours and have developed enormous eyes speckled with flecks of light resembling a night sky, allowing greater vision within their dark and cavernous surroundings and reflecting their increased activity under the influence of moonlight. The Persai are strong and territorial but surprisingly weakened against most metals save for gold and silver to which they possess a dangerous affinity; pirate treasure is found and fought over, and their closest enemies in turn hunt them for their skins which are refined into a valuable form of leather. As a form of defence, this race has adapted warrior-like techniques and resources and from necessity also the skill of healing.
⋘ ──── ∗ ⋅◈⋅ ∗ ──── ⋙
Qadini The Qadini appear to originate from human-kind as opposed to the Persai's marine. In both appearance and behaviour they still clearly resemble their ancestry; no uniform hue for any feature exists within their ranks however typical of their kind does run the almond-shaped eyes paired with flowing hair curling in soft waves kept long by women, clipped short by males. These enchanting creatures share the Persai's capability for breathing through either gill or lung but display an enhanced strength for the latter thus increasing their above-water tolerance. Legend behind the race's more recent creation tells of conflict and dishonour between deity and human, punishment for the unmentionable crime seeing banishment of a lover to the depths of the lake waters and the offender choosing to join her asking mercy for his soul and to this day although legend faded to myth, closer inspection of a Qadini's single-coloured tail shows extremely faint outlines resembling potential legs and feet beneath the scaled exterior. Younger than the Persai, the equally territorial Qadini feel constant need to justify their existence and prove their worth leading to a highly competitive and defensive attitude; their strength however lies not in physical fight but intelligence and academics. Their humanistic love for material possessions including jewels and silks draws makes their presence more noticeable drawing many watchful gazes, only some of which are admiring.
⋘ ──── ∗ ⋅◈⋅ ∗ ──── ⋙
Pescis A mystical tale whispered by pirates, the Pescis are the sirens of the sea, living in the ocean as water-bound creatures, and singing the stray traveller into a trap, and, ultimately, their death. They display themselves as beautiful, irresistible mermaids, the stuff of a man's legend, but when their victims realize that they are hopelessly lost, these sirens reveal their true nature: hideous faces, scaled bodies, long and bristly hair, and razor-sharp fins and a screech that could blind anyone unfortunate enough to be nearby. The Pescis lure lost souls for both sport and necessity, hunting them down, taking their goods, then devouring them for food.

By the look of the dresses they are Karelians. 1941 the border was moved because of ww2 and who is what nationality come even more complicated in following years. Nowadays these dresses are one thing that had got trough lot of talk. Their original name is sarafaani or feresi depending of the area. Least that can be done is call them Karelian dress. By what I have read the origin of the dress design is Orthodox Church clothing. Comly, like in many nordic countries girls had only ribbons in their braided hair, young woman's made puns and married woman's wear special hat.

So I finished my GRAPES
My current WIP is a realm I have been working on for months for a site I’m going to open for roleplayers to help foster their imagination.
So the name of this realm is Vennadore! And I’m going to tell you what it’s about using GRAPES.
G is for Geography
Tumblr media
The map above is based on a design made by myself that was then worked on through GIMP by my lovely boyfriend! The climate is warmer for the residents, making it an ideal realm to live in!
R is for Religion There are multiple religions for this immersive world, but there are five main religions the people follow. There’s Elypherity, which is a large pantheon of gods both minor and major to help explain why the world is the way it is. This religion is the one followed by most of the population. Peagar is another pantheon that is much smaller that has only 6 gods that is loosely based on the gods that the Elypherity religion has. This religion is followed by the Untouchables specifically. The Order of Whispers is a rather small religion followed by a minority race, the Wanderers. This religion is explicitly found in the country of Pritesa.  Then there is the Cult of the Scarlet Veil, which follows one elder god that is unknown to the rest of the world. Anyone can find them if they are willing to join. Their motives are unknown.  Finally there is The Arcane Way, which is not really a religion but more of a study that is followed by the Illuminated. This is just the study of magic and all of its aspects.  While there are many people from multiple backgrounds, anyone can convert to any of these religions and follow what they believe in. One thing they all have in common is storytelling. They all tell stories to each other, most of the stories about legends such as demigods, the Unseen, Avarians, the Catacombs of Polis, etc...
A is for Achievements
So far this realm has accomplished: - Creation of all things and beings (immortal and mortal alike) - Creation of countries/civilizations - Creation of government - Maintaining a sense of peace between countries and races - Expanding land claims
With creating and maintaining, there were a few wars and rebellions that helped put some things into place. - War of the gods -> creation of the mundanes - Fight for the hunter -> a new god of the hunt - A civil war between mundanes -> the decision to put a monarch in place - Rebellion against the monarchy -> change to a constitutional monarchy - War/prejudices against races -> WE’RE HERE NOW
P is for Politics
Currently the majority of the realm is ruled under a constitutional monarchy, with the ruler being an OC of mine (which I will introduce later) named Aeryn. She has a small group of people from different corners of the realm to help her govern the realm. However, most of the people do not respect her due to her having inexperience on the throne. Many believe that she was not meant for the throne and that she had her parents removed in order to have a title and name for herself in the realm.
E is for Economy
This world works like our real life world works. Through trade of spices, textiles, and services. The currency of the realm are small gold pieces called Aurum. The Aurum are typically circular with the royal crest stamped into it. Goods and services may also be paid with Orbs, which are small spherical gems that come in a variety of colour.
S is for Social Structure
There are two categories. Humans and Non-humans. The human categories have two subcategories: magical and non-magical, meaning that humans can be born with magical abilities or born without any magical abilities. Those born with those abilities are known as either Wanderers or Untouchables based on the type of magic they are born with. Those without those abilities are known as the Mundane. The non-human category also splits into the same two subcategories: magical and non-magical. The non-humans that are magical are: Unseen, Feresi, Celestial, Ibilis, Mangkr, Cursed, Raeb. The non-magical non-humans are: Illuminated, Cursed, Forsaken, Xeranack, Raeb, and Avarian.  Notes: the demigods are a mixture of non-human/god or human/god. Anyone can become a pirate. Anyone can become Cursed or a Raeb since both of these ‘creatures’ can infect anyone with a single bite or scratch. Anyone can learn about magic and how to use it, even those without magical heritages.
Along with races are prejudices about each other. However, this doesn’t affect the character and how they perceive others. Below are typical prejudices:  Mundane: Many believe that there aren’t any non-human races or humans born with magic. If they come across anyone with either of those qualities either deny their existence or believe them to be monsters.  Non-Mundane: Those that are either non-human without magical abilities or humans that have magical abilities, or they are both non-human with magical abilities believe the Mundanes to be the monsters, are ignorant, and just plain blind to what’s in front of them. Even within the Non-Mundane community there is a prejudice against humans with magical abilities, generalizing them with the Mundanes.
