Had an epiphany earlier that went “Oh wait. I can be a boy JUST BECAUSE I SAY I AM.” Which sounds really basic, but when you’re in the middle of your gender crisis, all of a sudden basic shit gets really profound.

I am a boy because I say so. I don’t have to take T, or get top surgery, or do anything else, and I still get to be a boy. A real boy. A ME boy. The kind of boy that feels good to me. I am not obligated to be a boy in a way that makes other people comfortable; I’ve never been a GIRL in a way that makes other people comfortable, so why would being a boy be any different?

Brilliant queer Femme Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha wrote in the Femme Shark Manifesto:

“WE’RE ONLY ‘INVISIBLE’ IF YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO LOOK FOR US.”

That resonated for me, and for so many of the Femmes at the FemmeCon in 2009. Femmes are so often not seen in their queerness. Often it is only seen in context of their more butch or masc-presenting partners. Femmes don’t need—should not need—someone else (particularly a masc, afab, queer-coded person) in order to be read as, or seen as, legitimately queer. And yet, that’s still so common. Femmes “pass” for straight women ALL THE TIME. And it feels like shit, to constantly walk through the world visibly Doing Your Gender, and to have it be completely invisible to others.

My boyness is like this. The problem isn’t that my boyness isn’t there, it’s that some people don’t know how to see it. My boyness is legit, even if they can’t or won’t see it. Their failure to see me is not my problem to solve, because it’s not about them. It’s about ME. And yeah, there are things that I could do to help them see it, and maybe I’ll decide to to those things at some point, but I don’t OWE anyone else my discomfort to make them see it, to make them see this boy that I am.

I can be a sweet boy. A sensitive boy. A boy who cries. A boy who adores his friends and will fucking cut you if you hurt them. A boy who brings his friends small, shiny treasures, like a crow. A boy who sings soprano. A boy who wears dresses and bold colors. A femme boy. A fat boy. A funny boy. A pretty boy. A salty boy. A boy who may not ever be able to grow any facial hair is still a boy. A boy who may not ever want to grow into a man, but is still real in his boyness.

I AM A BOY. I am a boy because I say so. I’m only invisible if you don’t know how to look for me.

Okayyy the shark tale post is a little controversial... and got reposted to twitter...

So let me say Meljayvik in canon is initially presented like a traditional love triangle with Mel playing the role of the elite seductress beauty who exploits the well intentioned bright eyed Jayce and Viktor his partner the weary and neglected as Jayce's ambition trumps their relationship and thats utterly subverted we find Mel's loyalty lies with the protection and the progression of her city and that she is made all the more complicated by her family dynamic, trying to fulfil a legacy that fundamentally disagrees with her which ee know for certain due to her reveal as an empath by magic and therefore by nature. Jayce, as it turns out is able to do wrong all on his own, his ignorance straining his relationship with Viktor and influencing all the poor decisions he makes on the council. Viktor dies and is revived and then goes and does eugenics... what I'm trying to say is that Meljayvik is NOTHING like shark tale and I understand that the mass misinterpretation of all of these characters can lead to a certain strictness about them especially Mel but she's so unbelievably nothing like the hot fish from shark tale that I couldn't even fathom people taking this seriously and viewing it as slander... like I'm still a little, she shocked like woah... after all the Mel glazing I've done...

Anyway, I made the comparison in the first place because of the traditional love triangle dynamic meljayvik originally occupied because that dynamic permeates media cross genre and form, so as complex as meljayvik are dynamically and also as respective characters, you could compare it to something as ridiculous and random as shark tale and thats why I did because it was funny to me and thats not at all whats happening, its an utterly absurd and dumb thing to say.

Transformers Rescue Bots Excerpts: Meet Sky-Byte the Predacon Part 2

A year later on the ship, the Rescue Bots and Optimus are doing a routine run, when Blades runs out onto the deck looking as white as a sheet...

Blades: Nyahahaha!! A vampire! A vampire! There's a vampire on the ship! Everyone, stay outside in the sun so it doesn't get you! *he points to the cabin where something is seen in the shadows and walrus flops out barking with its tail in a waterproof cast* Oh no! It's immune to the sun! Somebody, get a stake! High Tide: Relax, mosquito. That's not a vampire. It's just a walrus. *strokes the creatures head* Wallace's just stayin' aboard until his tail is healed. Heatwave: What are they all here for? *points to the parrots in the alcove in the shade sitting around tiredly* High Tide: Poor little things drank water contaminated with chemicals no thanks to careless littering from beach goers. Chase: And this sea turtle? High Tide: Hmm, cracked shell. That ain't never gonna heal, so we had to give her a 3D printed replacement. That's gonna take time to set in. Poor dear got run over by a skidoo, but she's a fighter. Boulder: That's awful... Optimus: It is very noble of you to help all of these animals, High Tide. It is good to see you developing your sense of empathy. High Tide: Thanks, OP, but... Honestly, all I'm doin' is playin' host to' em all. The real saviour is the fembot who I told you saved my metallic skin. Dr. Sky-Byte. Optimus: She is still here even after you healed? High Tide: *shrugged* Had to repay her somehow for her services so... I allowed her to bring her patients here since she doesn't have a proper place to house' em all. Boulder: Wow, High Tide. I'm really impressed that you would be that kind. High Tide: What's that supposed to mean, ya big green lug?! Optimus: If she is still here, then please let us meet her. I would like to thank her personally and quite possibly aid her in her mission to help innocent creatures in need. High Tide: Then I'll be back with her in a jiffy, OP. Oh, ho, ho, you're going to love her *he goes inside smiling* Blades:.... Ok, what is going on here? Since when does he LIKE having company on the Trident? Chase: Perhaps High Tide is suffering from cabin fever. A common ailment among sailors who spend too much time on their ships alone. Boulder: Or maybe he really did just make a new friend, guys. High Tide's may not be the cheeriest person, but he's a good guy. Heatwave: From the way he talked about her with that twinkle in his eye, I'd say he is more than just friendly, Boulder. Optimus: Well, all the same, Dr. Sky-Byte has brought out the best in High Tide, so let us welcome her with-.... *he gets cut off when he sees her arm in arm with High Tide and the others stare awkwardly too* High Tide: OP, everyone, meet Dr. Sky-Byte. Sky-Byte, these are the Rescue Bots and Optimus Prime. Boulder: Hello! Blades: Uhhhhhhhhhhhh hi. Chase:.... Greetings. Heatwave: You didn't say she was a- *Boulder nudges him* Sky-Byte: *steps forward and bows in a ladylike manner* It is an honour to meet you, Prime.............? *she notices that he is just staring at her*..... Optimus: This is NOT about differentiating between history and present, which I am all for by the way. This is about honouring the Autobot way. The Trident is a sacred warship which makes it sacred Autobot property and by our creed, ONLY Autobots may set foot on it. High Tide: *frowns* Arrh, ye had no trouble bringin' humans here or with the critters bein' here. Optimus: You can't apply such conditions to beasts and I myself as the Prime gave humans permission to board the Trident. I NEVER gave Sky-Byte permission to set foot on it. High Tide: If she was to wait for ye permission to board the ship, I would have wound up dead with my corpse rusting at the bottom of the ocean, Optimus! Optimus: That was an emergency, but as soon as her good deed was done, you should have asked her to leave, High Tide. High Tide:................................. Optimus: Please, don't look at me like that. I don't enforce the Autobot way to be cruel or segregate. I just- High Tide: But ye ARE!! No matter how much ye say ye don't mean to! The instant you enforce the parts of the Autobot way that don't make any sense or just say them, YE ARE, Optimus! Optimus: High Tide, please calm down- High Tide: Don't tell me what to do on MY ship! If we're gonna go livin' and breathin' the Autobot Ways, then we'd best do so for ALL of' em! And according to the Autobot Ways, the bot who is given custody of a sacred space which includes commandeering the Trident has the final say of who may stay and who must leave! Optimus: High Tide- High Tide: Which means that as long as we are all standing on this here ship, I say what goes on around here and I say Sky-Byte may stay! She saved my life, she saves the lives of innocent creatures for a livin' and she ain't got a bad bone in her frame! I'll tie an anchor on my ankles and jump in a pool of acid before I kick her off the Trident for just being Predacon, Optimus! I'd never thought I'd say this, but I now see why your boy Roddy aims to change the Autobot Ways so passionately. Optimus: !!! And I never thought you would cross so many lines in one moment which includes directly defying your superior and acting Prime! High Tide: Bah! *crosses his arms* We're on EARTH not Cybertron, Optimus! And according to YOUR OWN DECREE, Rodimus is the actin' Prime of all Autobots who reside on Earth, so I'm a followin' everythin' down the damn wire of the actin' Prime, Prime! Optimus: *looks angry* My authority outranks Rodimus', High Tide! Disrespecting me to my faceplate is an act of defiance that is not tolerable no matter the location! The Rescue Bots, Sky-Byte and Servo are listening outside...

High Tide: Is it now? What are you going to do about then, OP? Optimus: *he looks really pissed now, but composes himself while taking a deep breath* I am going to command you once and only once, ask Sky-Byte to leave this ship at once and I will forget this argument ever happened. Refuse and you will be exiled from Cybertron, naval officer. Sky-Byte: *gasps* No! Don't do that, Prime! I'll leave- *she is about to transform and jump off, but High Tide runs after her* High Tide: NO!! *grabs her arm stopping her* Sky-Byte: But you heard what he said, High Tide. Your career willbe ruined and you'll get marked for life. High Tide: FRAG MY CAREER!! And I can't bear to see a kindly soul like ya be marked for just bein' born the way ya are especially when... when... ya're so wonderful the way ya're, Sky! *takes her hands* People like you should be allowed to go anywhere you want and be respective anywhere you go regardless of yer faction. I just wish I saw that in my younger years because then... I would have found you sooner. Sky-Byte: *is touched to the point of tearing up* High Tide... Boulder: *smiles wide* Blades: *sniffles* That is so romantic. Chase: I don't believe Optimus agrees. Heatwave: Understatement of the century. Optimus: *looks really mad now* It would seem you made your choice.
