Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you that I have great maternal instincts. That may be what makes me a good teacher. I treat all my children (yes, they are mine for a majority of the year) as though they are my own. They are sweet, frustrating, passionate, and annoying all at the same time, and that's why I love them so much. Some of them even call me "Mom" either on purpose or on accident. Every time they do, it warms my heart and brings me such joy.

I tried (and failed) to conceive a child for almost a decade. I finally came to terms with that, and decided to pour all my desires to create life into my writing. The result of all that passion was my play Basic Glitch, which premiered in 2019 at the Broadway Bound Theatre Festival. I was invited to do an Encore! performance of Basic Glitch for the 2022 Broadway Bound Theatre Festival and I am so excited to explore this world once again.

I may never have children of my own, but I can still find joy in creations, whatever they may be. You can increase my joy too by donating to the Basic Glitch Indiegogo Campaign. I had someone ask me at an event once why I was passionate about writing stories about women the world knew nothing about. It was an easy question to answer. I want to shine a light on women who in spite of societal barriers and the disdain of accepted norms, forged their own path. Chased their dreams. I often think about how much courage that must have taken. To ignore the stares. The biting comments. I wish I could say a 100 years later we’ve come a long way, but unfortunately in certain circumstances we have not. It is extraordinary that we will soon have the first female VP. A brave woman of color who broke so many boundaries of her own. It gives me hope that we are moving forward. Then I see degrading articles in “reputable” publications about our soon to be First Lady and the honor she’s earned to be called Doctor Jill Biden and I feel sick. Not until we stop allowing the public narrative to be bent toward sexist and misogynistic tendencies will women’s stories need to cease being told. Today’s post is a focus on motifs. - A motif can be seen as an image, sound, action, or other figure that has a symbolic significance, and contributes toward the development of a theme. Like Steven Spielberg with the colour red a motif can hold emotive significance. - Which brings me to JOEL’S WATCH a recurring symbol in TLOU. - The time piece is a tether to Joel’s daughter and is a central message in TLOU. Throughout the game Joel unconsciously glances and grabs at his watch in pivotal interactions with Ellie, making his inner turmoil clear. The watch like Joel’s spirit is broken. - As we see Joel’s walls come down and his relationship with Ellie grow the watch becomes a key player in Joel’s evolution. - In their final scene together Joel intentionally rubs his watch and says "I struggled for a long time with survivin', and no matter what, you keep finding something to fight for” bringing his arc full circle. He has come to terms and healed. - Will the watch be fixed in part 2? Will Dina’s bracelet become Ellie’s running motif? Only @druckmann @grosstastic and the @naughty_dog_inc team know! Love Jones 2.0

I just watched The Photograph, a film by writer and director, Stella Meghie. I loved it and every feeling I went through watching it. Issa and Lakieth portray and take you through every stage of getting to know someone new. You experience them as they walk through all the motions - awkward beginning, the knowing, the defense mechanisms, the reflections, and a cheesy, predictable ending. I loved it. The back story is also obvious but still beautiful - aesthetically and performance-wise. I liked this movie a lot. I also love that you can tell this film is made by a woman. The gaze is always pure and intentional. I really love this film.

I can’t wait to watch it again. I can’t wait to be making TV/Film again. I miss it so.
