wouldn't it have been cool if Proximus Caesar was a gal
bonobos are unique in the ape world because they are matrifocal. meaning they aren't strictly matriarchal, but there's still dominance through female lines, and the females head the colonies.
which makes me think about how different each great ape's social structures are. NOT AN PRIMATOLOGIST but from what i understand, bonobos, as mentioned above, are female dominant; gorillas have family units with an alpha male calling the shots and protecting everyone else; chimpanzees are also male dominant; orangutans are mostly solitary, but males have a range that overlaps with females in the area.
when put together, how does that all work out? Rise, Dawn & War make this seem like a nonissue, as all kinds of apes live together under Caesar. i assume this is due in part to their gained intelligence?? like maybe that eliminated their differing social instincts to some degree
edit: just thought about how most of the apes in Caesar's colony were either born in captivity or captured and acclimated to controlled environments in which those social structures and cultures may not be learnt or have much relevance, especially in mixed colonies with different kinds of apes, like we see at the San Bruno Primate Shelter in Rise. not sure if they do that in real life though?
idk but what if Proximus Caesar in Kingdom had been a big woman. because bonobos are female dominated. not sure if his mostly colonized chimp subjects would respect him as a leader, seeing as they tend to leave females to the archetypes of mother/wife. all of the newer POTA movies seem to be lacking in the female department that's all im saying.
you could argue that even though the apes seem to have a similar intelligence to modern humans, they form primitive-like structures and are still in the early stages of civilization. thus, they would reserve females to the traditional roles of childrearer and housekeeper. cuz if you consider the 1968 original a sequel to Rise, Dawn & War and taking place chronologically much, much later in time— we have dr. zira. a female chimp in a genuine place of power. so maybe they just gotta build up to it.
female Proximus. would've been great. that's all. nothing else changes he just goes by she/her
#why don't we have more important female characters in POTA#i mean i know why but WHY#tearing asunder#pota#kotpota#who up proxing they caesar#female rep was better in the 60s#schlong rants

as a result of having been a jerk* recently i'm thinking about this:
Exercising restraint is hard. Protecting other people from the full brunt of our frustration—which is almost always driven by underlying fear, insecurities, and anxiety—takes work. We want to give in to the urge to wallow, to do damage, to invite company into our misery. We also can feel closer to others when we expose them to our raw emotion, and if there’s one reliable truth about human psychology, it’s that we desire connection so much that we’ll take it in negative forms when we can’t get positive ones. But venting often doesn’t work to enhance intimacy; it can even isolate us further, whether we’re talking about getting a bad rep among our colleagues for being a negative Nancy, undermining our partner’s sense of trust and safety, or having people in our social circles associate us with stress. Venting isn’t good for us in other ways, too. When our thoughts center on how we’ve been hurt and victimized, we feel less empowered and more out of control. Fred Luskin, a forgiveness researcher at Stanford University, calls this a “grievance narrative.” In a 2006 study, Luskin and his colleagues discovered that replaying a grievance narrative both internally and externally causes our bodies to remain in a state of threat. Those who participated in a forgiveness training program felt less fired up and on edge (55th percentile for anger, compared with normal adults) than a control group (72nd percentile). Another study, which included 60 female participants, found that ruminating about ill will can significantly increase blood pressure. Scratch that bite now, and it only gets itchier later. None of this means you should repress your emotions, never grouse to your loved ones, or otherwise lean into what Whitney Goodman writes about in the book Toxic Positivity. In fact, studies on “social sharing” show that the productiveness of this type of venting depends on how it’s done. According to a 2019 paper, “When Chatting About Negative Experiences Helps—and When It Hurts,” recounting a negative experience takes you right back there emotionally and physiologically, just like the grievance narrative research shows. That leads to an increase in negativity. Friends who respond by comforting you provide a balm in the moment, according to a 2009 paper by Bernard Rimé of the Université catholique de Louvain, but that kind of support doesn’t help process the gripe or trauma. That’s why we’ll often find ourselves hanging up with one friend and calling another. As he put it, “No consistent empirical support was found for the common view that putting an emotional experience into words can resolve it.” We “equate emotional relief with emotional recovery,” but they’re not the same, he said, making that temporary blood pressure dip make a whole lot more sense. That said, the 2019 paper reported that chatting with friends can bring closure when they help you reconstrue an event, rather than just recount it. What does that look like? Asking why you think the other person acted that way, prodding to see whether there’s anything to be learned from it all, and just generally broadening your perspective to “the grand scheme of things.”
#* initially i was like 'dick' and then i was like 'but dicks are good actually!' same problem with 'ass.' critical language difficult.#anyway the writing style of this is Extremely Slate and you (like me) may find it irritating! but i do think the insight is valuable.#gotta get back to blogging my way *into* more charity with other people instead of out of it.#like if i'm complaining abt people being unsympathetic i'm still on a meta-level being unsympathetic myself.#useful reframings

Not sure if I can word this the way I want too, but I shall make an attempt... so, say I want to recommend Thai BL to someone, what would be... not BL tropes but more general Thai filming tropes (presumably) I would want to caution them about? Like, as a comparison, if I were to recommend the original Star Trek to someone, I might tell them that they should be prepared for little things like the camera work, dialogue, special effects, to more problematic things like the casual sexism, because it was the '60s. So I wondered what would a typical western viewer want to be cautioned about when introducing a show to them. The things that come to mind immediately for me would be, on the lighter end of things, the really blatant product placement and the cartoon sound effects, to more problematic things like, to look at a BL trope, the heterosexual dysmorphia present in strong seme/uke dynamics
Hum, yeah I talked about this in a blog post at some point. Basically what might seem odd to a western viewer. Ah, right, it's here:
BL Breakdowns By Country
This post specifically was written for Western audiences to deal with possible barriers to entry for the different BLs. It includes common triggers, issues with representation, humor, language, subbing, and quality controls.
Thailand's entry looks like this (but I do the others countries the same way).
THAI BL
Typical Format: long form 10-14 episodes of 40-60 minutes, each ep broken into 4 parts
Triggers: dubious or non-consensual sexual acts (statutory rape); very bad singing; heterosexual dysmorphia; femme gay vilification and predatory behavior (punching down humor); actors who are minors and look it; crass/scatological humor
Comedy stylings: overacted facial expressions; seriously egregious cartoon sound effects; some violent slapstick
Queer rep: strong trans rep; some femme; Thai is (somewhat) linguistically accepting of multiple genders; gay relationships are strongly heterosexually dysmorphic however many studios are making an effort to improve queer rep and range
Female rep: poor but getting better; always feature a faen fatal often predatory and homophobic; mother characters are often absent or disinterested
Quality issues: very poor audio quality from smaller production houses; overuse of sound effects, songs, sound tracks; propensity to sub background lyrics instead of dialogue; uneven pacing; settings usually limited to high school and university; poor wardrobe and makeup; egregious and excessive product placement
Strengths: length of treatment means fully developed story arcs and complex side characters; larger cast; acting style and training/workshopping for bigger projects is good; sheer quantity of offerings; range of adaptations
Story style: usually long form classic 3 act romance structure with kiss/interest acknowledged at 1/3, relationship tension/confession at 1/2, and crisis at 2/3-3/4 (around episode 11); some pacing issues for shows that have not be adapted from novels
HEA: most of the time; more common as the Thai studios take note of audience expectations; however unlike other countries (glares at Taiwan) Thailand will do specials, spin offs, and second seasons in order to give fans an HEA
Heat level: ranges, usually at least a kiss, some making out or physical intimacy, university set BL can get high heat
Language barrier: gender neutral, self gender, or lack of pronouns means Thai is linguistically queer friendlily but very challenging to translate; the language structure is ALSO queer/class/gender coded which does not sub well; high vocal range and pitches plus aggressive intonation can feel aggravating or seem nasal to Latin/Germanic based listeners; use of polite particles can sound like a verbal tic; must be hard subbed (machine sub programming DOES NOT work) and subbers are few and far between so can be full of basic errors
Seems weird until you get used to it: blatant product placement; child autonomy; codified sibling framework for friendships; Thai studio system and "ownership" of certain actors or actor pairs; creepy level of IRL shipping from fans; propensity to “exoticize” beauty standards; character and actor names
Subs & captions: decent and at release if they originate in a larger production studio; otherwise can be quite poor; very few fan subbers
#s as of 2020:
Approx 100 offerings
First noted queer film? Love fo Siam 2007
First popular BL? Love Sick 2014.
First internationally popular BL? SOTUS 2016
Full history + Top 10 BLs from Thailand
Classic examples: for university SOTUS 2016 or high school Love Sick 2014
Best current offerings: A Tale of Thousand Stars, Lovely Writer 2021
Thai BL is my original hyper fixation, here’s a master post on the subject.
______________
I hope that is what you're looking for.

It’s no secret that Tales of Arcadia stars some amazing girls and women!!! Nonetheless, I wanted to see how well it generally does with the balance of male/female representation. I may have forgotten one or the other space assassin from 3Below but that’s because I’m not too familiar with it.
Here’s the result and the observations I’ve made!
To my surprise, it’s not doing too bad????????? Wow!!!!!
I’m impressed with the diversity of the characters in both personality and appearance. ToA did an incredible job at giving people individuality!
However:
There is still an imbalance that favors 58,5% men > 41,5% women
Of the men who are either currently in a romantic relationship, or used to be in a romantic relationship, I counted ~15. Of the women, it’s ~13. That’s a much higher percentage: 39,5% men vs. 48,2% women. If you count Shannon & Connie out, it’s almost even though (40,7% women).
It’s not merely the existence that matters, but the importance and screen time of the character. And here, I have to say that ToA should have done better. I expected the male/female rep scale to be so much worse because I didn’t feel like we got a lot of IMPORTANT females. Most females remain on the sidelines. Sure, Trollhunters is mainly Jim’s story. 3Below is mainly Aja & Krel’s story. Wizards is mainly Douxie’s story. Male representation is inherent in the designs of the protagonists, their friends, their father figures and their enemies. But you can still kinda count the most influential women on one hand and that’s not enough. Women got reused as mains more often, whereas the male protagonists changed. And that’s why there’s still room for improvement in that matter.
You know who I most identify with??? BARBARA. Because she’s the only woman who doesn’t develop a sick fighting skill and participates in the plot anyway. Everyone else is either badass or an oblivious Girlie or afraid. Barbara will fight you with her broom, and that’s probably the most natural thing I’ve seen about a ToA woman.
Overall, Trollhunters has approx. a 60/40 balance. 3Below is 50/50 and Wizards a 66/33. This makes 3Below the show with the best balance!

A list of all the films, series and web series that have been recommended as hidden must sees during isolation and beyond.
Note: I have divided them into films with happy endings or not, series that haven’t finished so the exact ending is unknown I have put an asterisk (*) next to
Note 2: the descriptions are a mixture of my own and of the reviews I was sent by anons
She gets the girl
A Date For Mad Mary, 2016 (needs a date for a wedding, more about her complicated reconnecting with friends after prison but romance is cute)
Almost Adults, 2016 (centers around the broader themes of growing up and friendship but one of them is a giant gay. There is a happy ending for both the gay one and the straight one, gotta give the straights some food because they so rarely get fed)
Anne+, 2018* (Dutch webseries with fresh and new vibes with a great mid-twenties actress about mid-twenties gay lives. Everyone in it is LGBTQ+ yet nothing about it is LGBTQ+, it’s all just treated as natural and normal)
Bound, 1996 (you can't beat the lesbian noir classic which should one day be inducted into the lesbian hall of fame)
But I’m A Cheerleader, 1999 (camp and a lot of fun despite the very serious themes, starring Natasha Lyonne- one of the gayest straights out there)
Carmilla, 2014-16 (webseries based on the groundbreaking 19th century book. Some great chemistry and a lot of breaking of the fourth wall)
Carol, 2015 (Cate Blanchett movie based on the book The Price of Salt which caused issue when it was realised in 1952 because it gave its lovers a open ended happy ending)
Couple-Ish, 2015-16 (cute Canadian web series, bit on the nose but important gay, bi and enby rep)
Desert Hearts, 1985 (the looks, the emotions, the gorgeousness of them both, the chemistry, oh god it was so good. Vivian Bell deserves all the orgasms)
Elisa Y Marcela, 2019 (A Spanish film based on the true story of two women who got married with one of them pretending to be a man in 1901. A tearjerker but ultimately their love is stronger than the adversaries they face)
Entre Nous, 1983 (a French 1983 film which has Jews & Nazi's but doesn't end in complete horror. There are straights who think it’s a friendship but we know better)
Fingersmith, 2005 (BBC drama based on a book by Sarah Waters)
Fried Green Tomatoes, 1991 (based on a more obvious book, they’re sold as best friends but if you know you know)
Fucking Åmål, 1998 (one of the first films aimed at teenagers about two girls falling in love and getting together.)
Getrieben, 2018 (they're ex's and share a dog and then maybe they're not so ex anymore)
I Can't Think Straight, 2008 (cute romantic comedy adapted from a novel about a London-based Jordanian of Palestinian descent preparing for a wedding before events take a gay turn)
If These Walls Could Talk 2, 2000 (some happy and some sad endings in this film which portrays three generations of lesbian storylines from the same house)
Imagine Me and You, 2004 (not my fav but a classic and has Queen Cersei playing a wlw)
Kyss Mig, 2011 (heart eyes, a lovely film, does have maybe a bit too much man in it but he's gone when we get to the nitty gritty)
Our Love Story, 2016 (Korean, subtle nuanced relationship story)
Rosebud, 1996 (a channel 4 short with Julie Graham and questionable fashion choices. Who needs words when you can have such tantalising and vivid visuals? Teeny bit of man but it's fitting in the particular setting and its very fleeting, although admittedly nude)
Saving Face, 2004 (romantic comedy which had less of an impact that Imagine Me and You due to lesser known actors and probably partly to do with race- the main characters are Chinese-American. But it's a gorgeous movie that has a lot more than just rom com elements. The Half Of It is by the same director.
Sjukt Oklar, 2018* (very Swedish, very lesbian, very very funny)
Supervoksen, 2006 (Danish teenage coming of age type thing)
The Carmilla Movie, 2017 (based on the webseries but still accessible to those that haven’t watched it. Quite sweet and the actresses seem very comfortable with each other. Plus there is a great sex scene in it where the muscles on one of the girl’s back are especially sexy)
The World Unseen, 2007 (period film during South Africa's apartheid era with great chemistry)
The Handmaiden, 2016 (extremely nsfw but its got some incredibly powerful meaning to it especially the final sex scene with the bells. It's also incredibly shot and the sex scenes were done very sensitively on set with only women around and the director even in another room.)
Thelma, 2017 (a supernatural thriller about a girl starting college who suddenly starts getting seizures but they don’t know why and she has a female love interest)
Tipping The Velvet, 2002 (BBC series, also has a Victorian era strap on in it and Keeley Hawes, what's not to love?)
When Night is Falling, 1995 (An uptight and conservative woman, working as a literacy professor, finds herself attracted to a free-spirited, liberal woman who works at a local carnival. It’s got quite a lot of a boyfriend in it so its not for everyone.)
Yes or No, 2010 (literally a ‘and they were roommates’ movie as well as an enemies to lovers plot)
Zwischen Sommer Und Herbst, 2018 (coming of age elements, does have a man involved especially at the beginning, who happened to be the brother of one of the girls, but overall it was okay, no lesbians die and it doesn't end in abject misery)
She doesn’t get the girl but neither does the trope
Aimée and Jaguar, 1999 (based on a true story. Beautiful but painful, it’s a Jew falling for a German housewife in Nazi Germany, hence its sad as hell ending)
Bloomington, 2010 (coming of age, teacher student thing which walks that line relatively well without being too icky)
Freeheld, 2015 (an extremely powerful and important story to tell)
Gia, 1998 (Angelina Jolie gets it on with Elizabeth Mitchell in a moving film about model and lesbian Gia Carangi)
Kontrola, 2019* (a masterpiece of a mini web series with a great soundtrack, aesthetic and storyline. Season 2 may present a better future for them)
Mädchen in Uniform, 1931 (German cult classic almost entirely produced by women. Sexual awakening/teenage coming out of her shell stuff, there is also a 1958 redo which is okay. She doesn’t get the girl but it’s still a positive portrayal of sexuality where the object of desire isn't disgusted or weirded out by it)
My Summer of Love, 2004 (At first glance a coming of age movie, but has a lot of phycological elements too. Emily Blunt with a girl, not happy but no lesbians die)
Portrait of a Lady on Fire, 2019 (spell-bounding french film with amazing rawness and visuals. One of my best cinematographic experiences ever)
Reaching for the Moon, 2017 (the love story of the poet Elizabeth Bishop and the architect Soares in the 60s)
Snapshots, 2018 (sad ending but great chemistry with no closed mouthed straight girl kisses)
Summertime, 2015 (French lesbian movie- dare I say more? Sad but no deaths)
The Hunger, 1983 (a gothic cult classic, vampires, its got David Bowie, Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve in it)
The Miseducation of Cameron Post, 2018 (she doesn’t get the girl because there is no girl, but she does begin to find and accept herself. Based on a highly recommendable book by the same name)
Viola di Mare, 2009 (depressing as hell but beautiful to look and the couple have some good chemistry)
#hope this keeps everyone busy :)#idk what to tag this but hey ho#wlw#lgbt representation#lgbtq+#masterpost#og#yomequedoencasa#coronavirus#film recs

The ‘dreaded swimsuit season’ is coming up, and that means people are going to be obsessing about food and exercise and losing calories. First of all, I’m not a medical professional nor a nutritionist nor a physical therapist etc, so definitely consult with the appropriate personnel...but I cannot stress strongly enough, you must consult with non-fatphobic medical personnel.
Fatphobia kills people of all bodyweights, and this blog does not support fatphobia, especially medical fatphobia.
Now, with that said...if you want to be healthy, there are plenty of non-fatphobic things you can do about it. And the biggest things you need to know about how to go about it are: understanding your metabolism, understanding how muscles can affect your metabolism, and understanding how diet (foods, not fatphobia industry) can affect your metabolism.
Given all the fat-shaming bullshit thrown about in the so-called “Health Industry,” it sounds counterintuitive, but you actually need to eat more in order to lose weight. You need to teach your body that it’s not in starvation mode anymore, that it has plenty of calories and nutrients...and just start moving more. Not necessarily exercising more, but moving more.
2,000-2,500 calories a day is the range for a “normal” body-weight-and-size person. However, the more exercise you do, the more muscles you have, or simply the bigger a person you are (the more cells you have), the more calories you need. Unless you’re seriously short & skinny, a 1,500 calorie meal is a starvation meal, and that will put your body into “OMFG SAVE ALL THE CALORIES AS FAT!!” mode.
Literally, a toddler’s caloric needs are 1,100, and they range from 20-35 pounds. You’re several times that much. This doesn’t mean that if you weigh 175 pounds that you need to eat at least 5 times as many calories, however! In truth, you only need about double that, because a toddler’s metabolism is geared toward growing, whereas an adult’s metabolism is geared toward maintaining.
The best way to understand this is to realize your metabolism can be divided into 4 categories.
Your Resting Metabolic Rate is simply the amount of calories needed to keep you breathing, your blood pumping, your organs functioning. That’s 60%-75% of your caloric intake. You have your Thermic Effect of Food, which is another 10%, literally the energy it takes to chew and swallow and digest food & drinks, and then to excrete the leftover bathroom waste. The remaining two types of calorie burning are Non-Exercise Activity Thermogensis, and Activity Thermogenesis. Of those lattermost two, your body actually burns more of the Non-Exercise calories than the Active Exercise calories...and it is designed to burn more when simply moving.
Literally, just moving a bit more than you usually do in a typical day will burn calories effectively. Move around the house on every commercial break, stand up and sit down more often, change your position more frequently, raise and lower your arms, gently swing or kick your legs...just move more. When they say 30 minutes of (gentle) exercise a day, this is exactly what they are talking about. You don’t need weights, you don’t need machinery, you don’t need a gym membership. Just move. It’ll be a gradual process, but so long as you’re eating foods with plenty of fiber as well as other food types, you’ll feel full and won’t feel starved.
Now, if you want to burn calories even faster through vigorous exercise, you can do that, too...but again you need to use your metabolism. Make sure you’re not starving, because your body will go into a panic attack thinking you’re not only starving but are being chased by bears and will need plenty of fat to survive while you’re unable to gather food, etc because zomg you’re being chased by bears!!1! (Truly, the metabolism is a primitive/primal minded thing based upon hundreds of thousands of years of hunter-gatherer lifestyles, and does not comprehend modern life at all.)
And then, what do you do to burn more calories? You build muscles. Muscles burn a lot of calories. Not just through using said muscles in excercise, but muscles will burn through calories even while simply resting. The more muscles you have, the more calories your body will burn.
How do you build muscles? Well, there are two types of muscles, which while it sounds cannibalistic, we’ll call white meat and dark meat, because it’s the easiest mnemonic to remember. White meat (think breast meat on a chicken) is designed for strong but brief actions...and men have more white meat muscles than females, though obviously they have both kinds. That brief sprint towards a prey animal, the thrust of a spear into its body, aaaand done.
Dark meat muscles are meant for lower-strength repetitive actions. Walking around reaching up or stooping down or digging while gathering plants, with no need to rush and plenty of opportunities to rest. Chasing after young children. Weaving baskets, scraping and tanning hides into furs and leathers, cooking...these are tasks that require little to moderate amounts of strength, but most important, repeated movements. Women tend to have more dark meat muscles than men, though obviously they have both kinds.
(The reasons why wild ducks, partridges, grouse, etc, all have dark meat breast muscles is because they use those muscles to fly long distances. Chickens evolved from jungle-floor hunt-and-peck birds that mostly flew only short distances to get away from predators by flying up to the nearest tree branches, so they literally just needed a burst of strong energy over a short period of time, hence white meat muscles.)
Which type is better? Both, ideally, because they are useful in a variety of different ways. Which is better for burning calories? Ideally both, but it doesn’t really matter. All you need to do is build muscles.
As for how to do that...you know how you feel when you exercise until you are sore? That’s what you need to do. This is where weights and machines and treadmills do come in handy, but still aren’t necessary, since you can lift and lower objects around your home, and get exercise bands or surgical tubing for resistance training, and go for longer walks, etc.
The object is to (gently!) push your body to the point where your muscles are sore. You can do this by lifting weights for a few repetitions near your limit (use a spotter & practice safe lifting skills!!), which is a white meat muscle activity, or you can use lesser weights or resistance machinery (surgical tubing counts), but just do it more, which is dark meat muscle activity.
You can also do the “step down” method of weight training or resistance training, by starting near your limit, going until your muscles burn, then resting a few minutes while gently shaking out, massaging, or relaxing the muscles in question to help move the lactic acid out of your muscle tissues, along with hydrating. Then you “step down” the amount of weight (say by 20%-30%) and doing another set of reps (repetition movements) until again it’s a struggle, then another few minutes of rest, hydration, etc, before stepping down again, doing some reps...and then again when it’s at the lightest you can for as long as you can, then rest that muscle group.
Regardless of which way you weight/resistance train, take a full 48 hours off. Or as close to 48 as you manage--weight train 3 times a week, and then take up to 72 hours (three days) off so your body can fully recover. You can still exercise, but do not use weights or resistance machinery/rubber bands, etc.
Let your muscles use that 48 hours to heal, and eat more protein sources to help your body build more muscle strength, along with a variety of nutrients to get the right kinds of micronutrients. Again, I must emphasize: Do not starve your body. It will go into fat-storage mode and will only barely repair your muscles, nevermind build them bigger.
The goal is to build more muscle tissue. if you are hungrier than usual, eat more. Your body will tell you what it needs if you listen, and there are plenty of charts out there with “if you are craving X,Y, or Z, then try eating healthier foods A,B,C, D, E, or F!” and they’re actually not inaccurate...but it is okay to have the “less healthy” foods in moderation, same as in everything you eat.
But seriously, up your protein intake, which is what your body needs to build bigger muscles. The average (again, your needs may be more) person needs about 4 ounces (115 grams) of protein per meal, so you can shoot for more than that. And get your proteins from a variety of sources. Humans can manufacture a good number of amino acids (the building blocks of proteins), but we cannot synthesize 9 of them, the “9 essential amino acids.”
These 9 essential amino acids are: histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. Foods that contain all nine essential acids are called complete proteins. These include eggs, fish, beef, pork, poultry, and whole sources of soy (tofu, edamame, tempeh, and miso).
While plant proteins have lower essential amino acid contents when compared to animal proteins, they will also have different ratios of the various amio acids compared to most animal-based proteins. This is something that vegetarians and vegans need to keep in mind.
Some plant-based foods can be combined together to complement and/or supplement. “Rice & beans” is one such combination. Basically, you combine a grain (in this case rice) with a pulse (legumes, like beans, or peas, etc). Here in America, in Mexican restaurants, a serving of refried beans and Spanish rice (seasoned with tomatoes & spices) is often automatically included as a side for most dishes. This provides a great deal of carbohydrates, but it also provides a more or less “complete protein” set of those essential amino acids.
Corn, beans, and squash plants do the same thing, providing a complete protein when combined together, as well as plenty of carbs. These three plant types are the “Three Sisters” of indigenous North Americans. They are best when planted together, the corn providing a trellis for the beans to grow upon, the squashes spreading out across the field to smother competing weeds, and together they feed people reasonably well.
However, they are still more carb-heavy than protein-heavy, which means vegetarians need to rely upon other sources such as nuts, plus eggs, dairy, and/or fish (if pisco-lacto-ovarian vegetarians). Vegans in particular need to be extra careful. Yes, peanuts have a lot of proteins compared to their carbs, same with almonds, etc, so definitely add nuts to your diets! But just be aware that you’re going to need to be a lot more conscious of your protein types & sources--and make sure to get a variety of sources--if you’re trying to build muscles while on a vegetarian or especially on a vegan diet. A purely plant-based diet will not have nearly as balanced a set of amino acids as what animal-inclusive diets can contain.
If you’re lacto-ovarian, this is made easier because milk, cheese, and eggs are wonderful foods with a lot of nutritional value. If you eat fish as well, even better, full proteins in fish as well as in egg whites, etc...but that brings me to another caveat, because you should probably eat the egg yolks as well as the egg whites.
Do not skip out on fats. Unless you have a genuine doctor-ordered medical reason, do not cut all fats out of your diet. Your brain needs fats in order to function. And just as with amino acids in various protein sources, there are different types of fats as well that our bodies need in different amounts for different reasons. This isn’t to say you should chow down on the equivalent of a full stick of butter (1/2 cup, 65 grams) with each meal (unless you’re camping outdoors in winter in the far north or a mountain, because then you need fat in your diet for your body to literally burn to help keep you warm).
It’s just that you don’t want to go completely fat free...because if you do, your metabolism will go into panic mode in its primitive/primal-minded way, “ZOMG IT’S LATE WINTER/EARLY SPRING AND NOTHING HAS ANY FATS IN IT WE’RE ALL GONNA STAAAAAARRRVEEE!!” Your metabolism will start turning carbs and even proteins into fats in an effort to ensure your brain (along with other vital organs) will have enough fats to keep functioning. So go ahead and put some butter on your toast. Even better, put some nutbutter on your toast, since sunflower butter, peanut butter, almond butter, all those things have proteins and fats as well as carbs.
Also, your body actually does need cholesterol to function, but only in smaller amounts than you’d think. HOWEVER, if it doesn’t get enough of the right types of cholesterol through diet, your body will make its own cholesterol, and will make more than you need, out of carbohydrates. (Yeah, this one was a shocker to me when I learned about it, and the answer blew my mind. Seriously, our body will make up to 10x as much cholesterol as we need if we don’t eat it, so it’s best if we do eat it.)
So how much does an average person need to consume of these critical cholesterols that it absolutely needs? ...About 1-2 egg yolks a day (or comparable alternative sources; vegans, do some research on alternatives, or just accept that your body may try to overproduce certain cholesterols if it’s feeling nutrition-starved). Seriously. Just that much is enough. (Again, your needs may vary based on your body size, metabolic rate, and/or environment.)
So. Put it all together, and you have: 1. Eat a variety of foods in sufficient quantities and qualities (fats and proteins included) to ensure your body stays healthy; 2. exercise just enough to push your muscles into feeling sore; 3. Rest 48 hours while eating a bit more protein to help your body repair and build bigger muscles; 4. Lather-rinse-repeat... and you’ll eventually get bigger muscles that burn more calories simply by existing, as well as whenever you use them to move just a bit more than you normally would.
Dark meat muscles burn more calories when at rest because they’re designed that way, because they’re small effort but frequent use with multiple short rests, lots of blood flowing through them, and thus are more metabolically “charged” than white meat muscles. However, white meat muscles tend to be the largest muscles, and thus while not designed to burn calories as efficiently while at rest compared to dark meat muscles...they actually end up burning about the same through sheer volume.
Work on improving your muscles, move a bit more every day, eat more conscientously but not through the heavily warped fearmongering lens of the Diet Industry’s blather and/or tactics, and you will be healthy enough to go to the beach and enjoy it. Not because you’ll have lost weight, but because you will be healthier. (Fun fact: muscles are denser and heavier than fat, so you could literally lose inches while gaining pounds from your body burning the fat with its now increased muscle mass.)
And yes, you can weigh 260 pounds and still be healthier than someone who weighs 160.
In other words, if you have a body, and you go to the beach with it, you now have a beach body.
You’ll just be less likely to get out of breath while swimming or building sand castles or playing volleyball or whatever if you’ve upped your exercise levels between now and then.
Also: CONTINUE TO WEAR A MASK IN PUBLIC.
Get one that matches your swimwear, or makes you feel silly & fun. Even if everyone started wearing their masks (not going to happen, but one can dream), it will to take us all of 2021 to quell the pandemic...and because people won’t be wearing their masks, keep wearing that mask. Yes, even if you have had all your shots. Because people aren’t wearing masks, the virus is able to spread, and when it spreads, there’s always a chance it will mutate, and cause new strains of infections...which it already has. So wear your damn mask.
#discussion of diet & exercise#death to the bullshit diet industry#nutrition is important to understand but doesn't have to be synonymous with the pejorative word diet#again I'm not a pro at this but I have studied nutrition exercise and metabolism on and off for decades

Iichako vs Kacchako vs Tsuchako: aka: Who should Ochako be with (besides Deku)
mysterylover123
Uraraka is certainly one of the show’s more shippable characters. Though the series has set her up to be the ‘obvious’ straight endgame pairing for Midoriya, the fandom has found lots of potential relationships for her with other people along the way, and 3 stand out as the most popular and probable: Tenya Iida (her best male friend besides Deku), Katsuki Bakugou (her respectful rival) and Tsuyu Asui (her best female friend). In the interests of truly determining which of these three has the strongest relationship with Uraraka, I’ve composed this long-ass meta, where I basically catalogue every moment involving each dynamic together to figure out which one should really be Uraraka’s endgame relationship (aside from Izuocha).
So here goes.

Note
1, 15, 25, 35, 45, 55, 65, 75, 85, 95, 100 for the OC(s) of your choice.
Thank you, love!!!
1. Does your character have good aim?
Wren: She does, actually. She’s excellent at throwing knives and such, which shocks the hell out of her.
Whitney: NOPE. Not even a little bit. She wouldn’t try, she would either embarrass herself and say breaking her nail as the excuse not to.
Blair: Not...really. It got somewhat better with training with Oliver, but...there’s a reason she never played any sports. It’s not really her thing.
Camille: She does now, after training with Clint and Natasha at S.H.I.E.L.D. It took her a bit longer to get it, but she did get there eventually.
Naomi: Yes! She used to play softball when she was in high school, she’s rather athletic. Good luck challenging her to a game of darts. Just saying.
15. Did your character ever want to be a cowboy?
Wren: No, not at all. She wanted to be a rockstar astronaut at first, something her mother thought was hilarious. Wren swore up and down that Rocketman was about her, but uh...she didn’t really get the lyrics at that young of an age.
Whitney: Absolutely not. She was definitely a princess kind of girl. Being a cowboy was never her thing, she would rather be the princess or damsel in distress that gets swept off her feet.
Blair: Not really. She wanted to live on Mars and be an astronaut too. She loves space and always has. Blair grew up to be an astrophysicist though...close enough.
Camille: I could see that, sure. I don’t think it was specifically a cowboy, I think she wanted to be the Lone Ranger, like the show her father watches. She would make her dad pretend to be a bank robber so she could go after him.
Naomi: Nope. Not at all. She was more into cops and robbers or princesses, to be honest. Cowboys just didn’t really hold her attention. The only one that could was Woody from Toy Story.
25. Does your character experience sexism for the job/title they hold? (ie: she’s a girl, she can’t be x,y,z because only boys can be)
Wren: Not necessarily sexism, but Pratt does hit on her and stupid ass comments that piss her off. It’s borderline sexist and she’s borderline ready to punch him in the face.
Whitney: Yes, she does. She was raised treated like that, honestly, and she was raised to believe it’s okay. Joseph definitely treats her like a housewife, even as Mother of Eden’s Gate. She doesn’t know better, even though it really does piss her off.
Blair: No, not at all. Her coworkers love her and don’t at all think that she shouldn’t be doing what they’re doing. She’s smart and well-respected in her field. And that doesn’t change with the teams at all. Blair isn’t disrespected like that, that’s a big no no. She also helps Mick with being politically correct.
Camille: It depends on which job we’re talking about. She’s had her fair share as a doctor, her knowledge and rep questioned because she’s female. Now, in S.H.I.E.L.D., she has had moments, but not nearly that many. S.H.I.E.L.D. is known for having diverse agents, and the very few she’s witnessed be assholes, she’s corrected (or Nat has rather quickly.) With the Avengers, it’s a hard no. Her place was earned and she’s respected by members of the team, and those members are quick to address those issues when they witness someone treating her that way (they drink their respect women juice.)
Naomi: As a war correspondent, absolutely. Being told that “this is no place for a girl” was something she received a lot. But she did a badass job at it. Now, S.H.I.E.L.D. was a lot better, for sure. They welcomed her and her skills for gaining intelligence with open arms, she’s a resident badass. Once S.H.I.E.L.D. is taken down, she becomes the PR for the Avengers, in which she’s someone you don’t wanna cross. She becomes highly respected.
35. Naptime, yes or no?
Wren: YESSSS! That girl loves naps! Give her a slice of cheesecake or some ice cream right before, and she’ll curl up on the couch and nap while watching The Twilight Zone.
Whitney: Eh, not really. Whit is normally busy with something, and she would rather be doing something productive than nap.
Blair: Yes! Most of it is because she’s working all hours of the night on something in the lab, so when she gets home, she’s not getting enough sleep. So! Yummy hot cocoa and naps!
Camille: Eh, she’s not known for it because she works a lot during the day, but if it happens, it’s because she’s pulling long hours and needs a break. But Camille isn’t really a frequent napper, it makes her more tired, if she’s being honest.
Naomi: Nah, that’s not really her thing. She’s used to long hours, and knows that if she naps, she won’t be able to sleep that night. So she’ll power through and maybe just go to bed a bit earlier to catch up on sleep.
45. Would your character kill someone to get what they want?
Wren: Ehhhh...that’s a hard maybe, depending of if we’re talking pre-cult or not. Wren is morally grey, and if she had to have it, she would once she’s joined Eden’s Gate. But before? Not as likely.
Whitney: Yes! She actually has, to be honest. Joseph and the others pretty much numb her to killing someone, so she’ll poison someone who crosses her. She literally kills with kindness.
Blair: Absolutely not. Blair doesn’t put her personal needs/wants above the value of others and their lives. She’s very much against that and couldn’t live with herself if she did.
Camille: I have a hard time seeing it, unless it was a mission in which it needed to be done (her wanting peace, killing bad guys for it, etc), but those are few and far between because she doesn’t do a lot of the things Natasha does. But she is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.
Naomi: Eh, not really. If it is a “want”, its going to be revenge. But it’ll be with the right intentions and in the name of doing what’s right. She’s not as scared or worried about getting her hands dirty as long as it’s for the right reasons, not necessarily because of something she wants.
55. Do you have any characters who despite trying their best ended up being horrible parents?
Wren: I think it would depend on how you define ‘horrible’. Because Wren tries her best to be the best mother she can be, but feels as though she’s become her father and failed Harper. Mostly because Wren kept a lot of the Wrath and Judge stuff a secret, and Harper doesn’t take kindly to that. It’s not her being a horrible mom, just making bad decisions that affect her kids (mostly Harper) negatively.
Whitney: Yes and no. While yes, she protected her son and put him in hiding with Ivy, she still stands by Joseph for the longest time instead of leaving to be with her son and to take her daughter and sister away from danger and toxic relationships. She is able to redeem it, though. Her and Wren both, actually.
The other three (that I chose to do this for) are good moms, so I don’t think this really applies.
65. Is your character energetic?
Wren: Oh yeah, she definitely can be when she’s comfortable. She can get pretty excited and pumped up, often making Jane, Ivy, and Whit a bit tired. Randy, Gray, and Ro just go along with it, Mel and Quinn join in and encourage it.
Whitney: Yes and no. She really is, but she tries to keep it on a leash and not show it, because she was raised being told that it wasn’t lady like. The more she grows (as a character) and hangs with the rest of the group, she loosens up a bit.
Blair: She can be when she’s had too much coffee. Blair is naturally mellowed out though, often being more calm. She’s not reserved at all, she just...has more of a calming upbeat presence.
Camille: Sorta! It depends on the situation, she’s more reserved when you first meet her. There are moments when she’s with friends that she does absolutely get energetic, but she’s mostly energetic after working out or going for her morning jog.
Naomi: No, not particularly. Like Camille, she’ll get amped up for a workout, and there may come a time where she’ll get energetic over a big event, but she’s not one to get super energetic.
75: Do any of your characters wear glasses, sunglasses, goggles, or monocles?
Wren: She’s obsessed with aviators. She collects them, and they’re usually blue, silver, or black. She eventually steals John’s because she digs them.
Whitney: If she’s gonna wear sunglasses, they’re either the 50′s or 60′s kind. Some cat-eyed, or those bigger glamorous butterfly styled ones. But she does have some nice Gucci and Coach glasses she’ll wear. It depends on what matches.
Blair: She’ll wear regular sunglasses, mostly Ray Bans. She wears reading glasses from time to time, but she mainly uses contacts. Blair has a pair of backup glasses that have the tinted lens.
Camille: She used to wear glasses when she was younger, but she eventually got Lasik, so she doesn’t wear them anymore. As for sunglasses, she wears modern cat-eyed or just rectangle ones. Anything that looks good and is her style.
Naomi: Aviators, and that’s really it. She’s not really big into them, she has one pair of brown aviators, and that’s it. They do the job.
85. Has your character ever been led down the wrong path because of their anger?
Wren: Absolutely. That’s the whole point of her canon, actually. The Wrath leads to her joining Eden’s Gate and becoming the Judge. She eventually redeems herself, but it does lead her down a dark path.
Whitney: Yep. She starts killing for Eden’s Gate because of it, but it’s funny, because it’s her anger that actually helps her redeem herself and gain her freedom: killing Joseph and Ethan.
Blair: Yes and no...? Kinda...? Like, when she woke up from her coma, she found out Carmen had left her for someone else, essentially moving on. The anger is what led to her maybe running into some unfavorable company (Leonard), where she decided to just give him her engagement ring instead of running the risk of him robbing her at the bar they happened to run into each in (his favorite bar). In her anger, she purposefully went to a bar that was known to be a frequent place for criminals. But that anger also had her moving to Star City, where she became a hero. Sometimes her anger can get her in trouble with her powers, but that gets better. It all depends on how you look at it.
Camille: Sort of. The Civil War incident really...was something else. Camille didn’t see it as a dark path, it was what she believed was right. She was angry that something so wrong went down in Lagos, so she sees the need for restrictions and boundaries. Her siding with Tony caused turmoil between her and the others, even Steve, and it led to a huge fight at the airport while trying to bring them in. Rhodes getting hurt added salt to injury. Later, it’s shown to her that perhaps choosing the Accords was the wrong path after all.
Naomi: Depends on how you look at it, honestly. As head of Public Relations for the Avengers, most just assumed that Naomi would be in agreement to the Accords, but she’s not. She’s angry that the government is trying to have control over them, especially after with what happened with S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra, she even says that to Camille when they’re fighting about it. She fully believes Steve and sticks with them as things become divided, and she becomes a fugitive right along with them. So, depending on what side you’re on, it’s either yes or no.
95. If given total rule over a country, would your character step aside to turn it into a democracy?
Wren: I think this depends. I think, yes, for the most part. Wren isn’t one to be a leader, she would rather not, but can rise to the occasion when needed and if she knows it’s better she’s in charge. But she would want everything to be fair and such. It would have to be a true democracy.
Whitney: I see her as keeping control, honestly. Whit is the kind of person that will claim she knows best, and maybe she does, but she wouldn’t relinquish control. Not when she’s never been allowed to have it. If given the opportunity to do so, this queen would absolutely rule.
Blair: Absolutely. She would try her best to set it up with the right candidates, honestly. She wouldn’t want to put anyone in the wrong position where they can do harm, but politics are honestly not her thing.
Camille: Yes, without hesitation. I could see her turning to Steve, because who else would know better than Captain America (and no, not that knock-off Gucci Captain America they have on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier--we don’t support Walker in the Camille and Steve household), so she would ask who would be better to hand it off to.
Naomi: She would give that up so fast, without thought. She agrees fully with Sam when he says that he’s just the soldier, because she feels something very similar. She wants nothing to do with leading something like that, she doesn’t want that responsibility. It’s why she doesn’t really join the Avengers. She has zero interest in leading.
100. Are any of your characters queer?
Honestly, it’s safe to say that most of my OCs are. I have more queer OCs than I have straight OCs. But I have so many OCs, I’m just gonna list the ones I’ve done so far, and if you wanna know more, you can always send me an ask!
Wren: Bi, hands down. Her first relationship was with a woman named Lilith in college. She honestly preferred women in the beginning because she doesn’t trust men easily.
Whit: She’s bi, but still in the closet. She hasn’t had a chance to really be with a woman, but the attraction is there, and so it the want to do so.
Blair: Definitely pansexual. She thought she was just bi for the longest time, but she’s actually pansexual, and she’s comfortable with it. She was engaged to a woman before she went into a coma, and a few hook ups afterwards have been a mixture of genders.
Camille: Straight. One of the few that I have that is, honestly. She’s tried in college, but it wasn’t for her. She supports it completely, though. One of her best friends is gay, and she went to their wedding.
Naomi: Bi, definitely bi. She’s had a mixture of men and women in her dating history, but ultimately none of them worked out because it’s hard to have a personal life when you’re in war zones for the sake of journalism or working for S.H.I.E.L.D. where you’re undercover often in order to gather intelligence.

Building a Better Heroine
HAHAHA give me the women
rep has gotten better but now they are flat characters
Well rounded female characters: Mako Mori (pacific Rim), women of Black Panther, Furiosa (Mad Max), Ahsoka (Clone Wars), Peggy Carter (YASSS), Fleabag, Zari (Legends of Tomorrow), Bulma (Dragon Ball),
Just because a woman is in love with a man, does not mean that you can’t be a feminist!!!!
Biggest strides in last 10 years: women of color as leads that aren’t male stand-in, Girl’s Trip as a movie having a diverse cast, having joy and not just trauma stories, Moana, more women/trans/poc as writers, breaking out of certain tropes
Not everyone needs a romance in their story to be valid!!!!!!
Men need to see women write women to learn. We want to e=be written well
Pitfalls: nagging mom x dumb dad, giving slang to the teen, being the old woman just bc of being 50/60, choosing between being badass or vulnerable, fridging, rape/torture as a plot device, women being only sexual beings, giving boobs to female animorphic characters
Shout out to Sailor Jupiter from SAILOR MOON, and Okoye
fiction has the ability to desensitize us to certain things or prime us to think certain ways about people
less rep = you don’t understand people as well
easy fix = have more characters of color (seems really easy but people are too afraid to take risks with them)
This was pretty good to listen to, and really cool to see from a woman’s perspective and how they see the changes amongst the industry.

A rant about online toxicity.
This is not going to be a fun post. Lately, my life seems like a cave with no real exit and I need a stress relief.
I’m going to be talking about my problems with the internet and how people use it specifically when it comes to the media.
Let’s start with this, you are not entitled to a creator’s time. You are not entitled to their attention or anything of the sort.
Fictional stories are important to people, but the shit that people do over them is stupid and petty.
The creator’s of a product have enough on their plates without dealing with your petty bullshit about how this small detail makes their story shit.
NITPICKS ARE NOT CRITICISMS! This is one of the DUMBEST misconceptions I have heard in my fucking life. Right up there with the idea that video games should cost more than $60.
YOUR OPINION IS NOT OBJECTIVE! THERE ARE MULTIPLE VIEWPOINTS ON A PIECE OF MEDIA!
I’m so sick and fucking tired of seeing assholes act like their opinion is the gospel.
Let’s move on to the most disgusting aspect of all this, sending death threats.
NEVER DO THAT! IT’S A STUPID, AWFUL, AND DISGUSTING!
Someone made something you didn’t like? Okay, but that’s not ground to attack them!
Criticize some things that happened in the stories, but NEVER attack people. IT’S WRONG!
Let’s now move on to the fun topic of politics in the media.
Most dipshits don’t understand that a character that is black or gay or whatever is not political. Not directly anyway.
Political means governments and laws and that kinda shit.
A lot of people will bitch and moan that something is political when the only thing that’s political is a very indirect link.
Maybe, but the other side isn’t much better.
Just because a story has a POC, female, or LGBT+ person does not make it appeal to a general audience! There needs to be more than that!
I’ve seen so much bullshit about this.
“We’re Ghostbusters 2016 and you’re sexist for not liking us!”
“We’re Birds of Prey and the Fabulous Emancipations of One Harley Quinn and you’re sexist or racist for not liking us!”
Congrats! You’re a dipshit who has made the battle for rep in the media HARDER!
Being a douche and saying that a product failed because it was led by minorities is going to make corporate hacks think that minorities are poison for them.
WAY TO BE PROGRESSIVE GUYS!
Now let’s talk about Voltron and She-Ra shall we?
Because someone made a bad joke with a very, very, very, very small racist implication or a story uses a problematic trope does not give you grounds to harass people.
Voltron introduced a gay character and killed him off without much screentime. That is a bad thing. That is something to criticize.
What it is not grounds for is sending death threats and harassing people.
Discourage that kind of stuff. Both problematic tropes and harassment.
Noelle Stevenson and the Crew-Ra made a….kinda sorta joke about Bow having a brother who runs a farm.
They gave him a fairly stereotypical design and a bad name.
You wanna know how the internet reacted? It trended on twitter.
I’m willing to bet money that most of the people who bombed Noelle were mostly white teenagers wanting to feel like they were fighting something they needed to without fighting something they actually needed to fight.
It was a bad take, but I don’t condone harassing people over it.
DO NOT HARASS PEOPLE OVER THIS KIND OF STUFF!
It was a mistake. A bad take. Criticize, but don’t harass.
It especially bothers me when these people give these people infamy and shit, when people like Butch Hartmen and J.K. Rowling get off basically scott free.
It pisses me off.
It also raises a good question.
If all people are gonna get for fighting for rep is nothing but crap, why should any writer fight at all?
The entitlement of the internet has made me think that maybe we’d be better off if nobody ever fought for rep ever.
Especially since a good chunk of these cases were outside of the creator’s control.
Why was Korrasami just a hand hold? Because Nick wouldn’t let Bryke develop the pairing and let them kiss.
Why did the character in Voltron die? Because of the studio.
Most of these people who harass over these small details don’t understand that it is a fight to get rep and that kind of stuff.
If you want an example for rep that upsets me. I do wish that Korrasami got to kiss and I absolutely despise the show Atypical because of how badly portrays Autism.
Let’s talk about harassing people over opinion.
Never do this. Some people are just not interested and that’s okay.
All you’re doing when you do this is making you, the fanbase, and the work look bad.
I guess this is relevant to ship wars.
Ship wars are probably the worst things on the internet.
It has done nothing, but led to harassment.
The one question I ask when this kinda shit happens is this. Why? Why are people making such a stink over romantic pairings.?
I don’t know and, at this point, I don’t think I want the answer.
I’m just so tired of all this bullshit.
Please explain to me what I should do about this. Yeah, I know. ‘Just get off the internet if you can’t deal with these people.’
Which might hold weight if we weren’t in the middle of a fucking pandemic or, ya know, most people’s lives revolve around the internet.
If you honestly think advice like ‘Get off the internet’, ‘Don’t feed the trolls’, or any of that shit is valid advice. You’re wrong. Plain and simple.
Remember that there is a person on the other side of the screen.
I’m done here.

Over the course of the Democratic primary, Latinos have been a crucial part of Sen. Bernie Sanders’s base. His campaign has made a concerted effort to win their support, with resounding success thus far: According to entrance and exit polls, he won 50 percent of Latinos in Nevada, 50 percent in California and 39 percent in Texas. And three of the states that vote on Tuesday — Arizona, Florida, and Illinois — have large Latino or Hispanic populations, which could be good news for Sanders.
But there are signs that he may lose strength with this group in the next round of primaries — and at least part of the racial divide that’s emerged in the contests so far may shift. As the newly dominant national front-runner, former Vice President Joe Biden may have new openings to win over Latinos in Arizona and Illinois — in particular, older Latinos. Additionally, Sanders is especially weak among Hispanic voters in Florida, where his support for socialism and praise of aspects of the communist revolution in Cuba may have hurt him.
“Sanders is continuing to perform well among Latino voters in states like Washington, but it’s not like Latino voters overwhelmingly dislike Biden,” said Matt Barreto, a professor of political science at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the co-founder of Latino Decisions. “The question is whether Latino voters start seeing Biden as the true front-runner in this next round of states and start to shift toward him, or if they are staying with Sanders.”
Sanders still has a good shot among Latinos in Illinois and Arizona
It might not be enough to help Sanders win Illinois or Arizona — according to our model, Biden has a 49 in 50 (98 percent) chance of winning Illinois, and a 29 in 30 (97 percent) chance of winning Arizona — but Sanders still seems likely to outperform Biden among Latinos in both states. In Illinois, a new Emerson College poll showed Sanders leading Biden 56 percent to 42 percent among Hispanic or Latino likely voters, despite Biden’s 20-point lead in the state overall; Gravis Marketing found a similar split. And two recent polls of Arizona — one sponsored by Telemundo and the other by Univision/Arizona State University — each gave Sanders a single-digit lead among Hispanic or Latino Democrats there. A third Arizona poll, by local firm OH Predictive Insights, did give Biden a big lead among both Hispanic or Latino Democrats and Democrats overall, but it was conducted almost entirely before former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Sen. Elizabeth Warren dropped out of the race.
Another good sign for Sanders: The Latino populations in these two states skew young compared with a state like Florida, more similar to other heavily Latino states where Sanders has already performed well, such as California and Nevada. That’s helpful for Sanders because he is extremely popular among young voters, including Latinos — he won 71 percent of Latinos under the age of 30 in California, according to the exit polls. And it will likely be difficult to convince many of those younger supporters to switch their allegiance to Biden, according to Vincent Casillas, a Democratic strategist who lives in Chicago and worked on Hispanic communications on Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.
Casillas pointed out that Sanders has the support of several progressive Latino politicians from Illinois — most prominently, Rep. Chuy Garcia — who are popular among younger voters. And although Casillas is a Biden supporter, he admitted that Sanders has a big edge when it comes to voter outreach among Latinos in Illinois. “The age divide is going to be a big problem for Biden here — there’s no way to sugarcoat it,” Casillas said. “Sanders has done a great job of organizing and energizing young Latinos here in Illinois. He’s way ahead of Biden in terms of outreach to this group.”
But Biden has at least one advantage in Illinois that plays less of a role in other states — his affiliation with Obama, who lived in Chicago for years and is still very popular with the Latino community there, according to Casillas and others. “Obama is still number-one in Illinois and so I think you may see some Latinos, maybe older Latinos in particular, just naturally migrate toward Biden’s campaign because of his affiliation with Obama and the fact that he’s winning other states.”
In Arizona, meanwhile, an eagerness to support the candidate who can beat Trump may nudge some Latinos into Biden’s column. Eduardo Sainz, the Arizona state director for Mi Familiar Vota, a Latino civic engagement organization, said that Latino Democrats in Arizona, like Democrats across the country, are eager to support a candidate who can win a general election against Trump, because so many Latinos are first or second-generation immigrants. “Many people are feeling a lot of fear under this administration, so I’ve seen that defeating Trump is a top priority for many Latinos in Arizona,” he said.
And voting for Biden is likely no big stretch for Latino Democrats. Even if he’s not quite as beloved as Sanders, most Latino Democrats in Arizona like the former vice president just fine. In a December poll by Equis Labs, 50 percent of them had a favorable opinion of Sanders, while just 14 percent had an unfavorable one; Biden was viewed favorably by 44 percent and unfavorably by 27 percent.
But Sainz has also observed an age divide among volunteers for his organization that leads him to believe that many young Latinos will continue to support Sanders. “From our older volunteers, I am increasingly hearing that they want to make sure that we beat Trump and based on what they’re hearing they think Biden has a better and better chance, so their vote is going to Biden,” he said. “But the younger demographic are pretty much either undecided or voting for Sanders.”
Even if Sanders wins Latinos in Arizona and Illinois, though, his victories might be less decisive than in states like California. “Now that Biden has gained front-runner status, I don’t think we’ll see as many dramatic wins for Sanders among Latinos,” Barreto said. And perhaps most importantly, Biden is still forecasted to win both states in spite of Sanders’s strength with Latinos.
But Sanders seems likely to lose Hispanic voters in Florida
On the other hand, Hispanic voters are likely to contribute to a massive Biden win in Florida. Biden is leading Sanders there by an average of more than 40 percentage points and has a >99 percent chance of winning there according to the FiveThirtyEight forecast. And according to most recent polls, Biden is leading among Hispanic or Latino Floridians by large margins (if not quite as large as statewide) — in stark contrast to other states.

It’s a good reminder that Hispanic or Latino voters nationwide aren’t a monolith. Like other voters, their political views often vary along other demographic dimensions, such as age and ethnic origin. For instance, the Hispanic population in Florida skews older — 35 percent are older than 44, compared with 24 percent in each of Arizona and Illinois — putting Sanders at a natural disadvantage.
And in Arizona and Illinois — as well as California, Nevada and Texas — the Latino population is overwhelmingly Mexican American. But Florida is far more diverse. A plurality (29 percent) of the Hispanic population there identifies as Cuban American, and there are hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan Americans and Nicaraguan Americans as well. Sanders’s brand of democratic socialism is distinct from the policies of former Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, but he did support Nicaragua’s communist government in the 1980s. And according to Barreto, some of the Hispanic population in Florida may be “very uncomfortable with the socialism that has been practiced in their countries in Latin America,” and could be wary of supporting a self-identified democratic socialist like Sanders.
Sanders certainly did himself no favors among Cuban Americans when he told 60 Minutes recently that “it’s unfair to simply say everything [former Cuban President Fidel Castro did] is bad,” citing Castro’s literacy program. The remarks led to a swift backlash, especially in Florida. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, one of two Hispanic Democrats who represent Florida in Congress, tweeted, “I find Senator Bernie Sanders’ comments on Castro’s Cuba absolutely unacceptable.” Two weeks later, she endorsed Biden.
Overall, Sanders now looks extremely unlikely to win the Democratic nomination for president, and cracks have emerged in his previously solid base of Latino support, but whether Latino voters move decisively into Biden’s column on Tuesday remains to be seen. If it does happen, it could be a symbolic final blow to Sanders’s campaign.

hi dx! I saw you've been on the dating scene recently. I wondered what apps you used or recommend for a smol shy female medic like me haha, hope it's all going well for you ❤️
I have! I wrote this out and it got eaten by tumblr.Whoops! General tips:1. Check out my #dxdates tag, I have a ton of advice. 2. No matter which site you use, unless you run off with the first person you date, you’ll eventuallyrun out of people I wanted to meet; you’ll eventually exaust the people you think look vaguely nice whose profiles seem appealing, who you haven’t already been on a date with. So rather than flit between like 5 apps at once, take your time on one app. Get to know the people who seem worth knowing. Then if that’s not worked, try another pool, and then repeat. You can eventually move back to apps you’ve used before, because new users will come along, but a lot of the faces may be the same for a while. They might even be the same across multiple apps, for all I know.
3. Think carefully about your criteria. Who are you? What do you want in a friend and partner? The more you understand, the better the match you might find. 4. But for the love of god, keep criteria to the bare minimum. Similar interests? reasonable, of course; you’ll want to do stuff together and respect each others’ interests. But like, they really don’t have to look or act like every other person you’ve ever dated. don’t let your ‘type’ define you; it’s literally just a list of attributes of people you’ve liked before.
5. Stay safe. Don’t feel pressured into meeting anyone who makes you uncomfortable, or staying on an awkward date. Now, dating sites:I used match; it’s a paying site, so I reckoned that I’d get less creeps and dick pics and more people who took dating a little more seriously. A friend of mine met her partner there, so it seemed worth a try. I really liked that you can write quite a long blurb, so it’s really obvious when someone’s taken the time. Of course, the vast majority of users still put in absolutely minimal effort and were SO not the one, but hey, that’d be true anywhere. I can say that I met some perfectly nice people and started seeing a lovely person so it did its job. OKC has a large user base, and I’ve heard that it’s got a lot of options for LGBTQ users. It asks a lot of questions in order to match people. I think it’s a free site, and the free sites tend to be good for sheer volume of users. Plenty of Fish is another one of the larger, free sites. I’ve heard that it has a good volume of users. Personally, I’m wary of free sites, because of the ease and anonymity they provide. Not everyone is respectful and well behaved, and the cynical side of me likes paying sites because it forces people to care about their actions if they have something to lose. hat won’t stop some guys being nasty (though they might be less likely to pay for a site if they are nasty enough to get banned a lot), but it might discourage them from disrepsectful behaviour if they have to pay for membership, again. People have nothing to lose from abandoning a free profile, after all. And I’ve seen some screencaps of some pretty appalling behaviour from men on free apps. So if you can pay, I think it’s probably worth it. Eharmony is another popular paid site. It apparently uses an algorithm to match users. It has a separate site for LGBTQ users. Like Match, it positions itself very much as being about the serious relationships. I prefer to peruse profiles myself rather than feel like algorithms are picking people, to be honest, but I think that might be a reasonable way of narrowing things down from literally thousands of people. I haven’t used it, so I can’t say if the algorithm is any good. Bumble sounds great if you’re a girl who likes making the first move. It has space for small blurbs. I didn’t mind messaging first sometimes, but really, I’m not sure I could do it all the time by default, so I’m not sure if it’s good for shy introverts. But I imagine that does cut down on creepy messages from divorced 60 year olds who clearly haven’t looked at what you’re looking for and just indiscriminately message women 30 years younger than them. Hinge recommends people based on your facebook connections; it looks for friends, or friends of friends that you might have stuff in common with. One fo my friends met her BF on there. I didn’t know it existed, but I’m not sure I would have picked it; I don’t really want to date within medicine, and that’d be most of my social circle, and most of my friends’ friends, no doubt. I don’t really want any of my dating profiles to have my facebook information. I hear Coffee Meets Bagel also does something similar? I’m not entirely sure. I couldn’t personally use Tinder; I don’t like swiping faces, and it’s got a rep for being a hookup app where I am. But a lot of people use it, and I’m sure some people have had success with it. It matches you to people who are local and also matched you back There are some more gimmicky dating sites out there. People told me to try elite singles; but I ever really felt like I wanted to differentiate myself based on profesion. I don’t need to be with some top exec; I just want a date who likes me and treats me well. I wouldn’t dream of hitting a religious dating site; I might be Christian, but I’m almost bordering on godless scientist some days (My mum’s words, incidentally), and I’d worry that most people on there are pretty religious, and I am not. Hope this helps, if anyone has any useful advice, feel free to add!

How long to walk a mile? – Verified Tasks
How long to walk a mile?
The average time to walk one mile (M.T.) is the average distance covered. A mile defined as a distance from the centre of a track or surface to the nearest corner, or from a point on one of the track surfaces to an intersection. The distance covered is also called walking. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 1.6 miles per person per day for all U.S. adults. That means that you would need to walk for 7.6 years if you were to complete the standard walking average (13 miles for males, 12.7 miles for females), or 10.3 years if you were to walk the usual passing average (20 miles for males, 12.7 miles for females).
The typical time for running a mile can be calculated using the following formulas.
Average Time 1 Hour 2 Hours 3 Hours 4 Hours 5 Hours 6 Hours 7 Hours 8 Hours 9 Hours 10 Hours 11 Hours 12 Minutes Total Miles (Miles per Minute) 20.0 21.0 20.3 20.7 21.7 21.9 22.0 22.8 23.1 23.8 24.0 24.9 25.0 24.9 25.3 25.6 25.7 26.1
These formulas will yield your average mile time. If you want a more comprehensive estimate, try the following equations.
Total Miles (Miles per Minute) 1 hour 15 minutes 2 hours 2 days 3 days 3 days 4 days 4 days 5 days 5 days 6 days 6 days 7 days 7 days 8 days 8 days 9 days 9 days 10 days 10 days 10 days 10 days 11 days 11 days 12 days 12 days 12 days Total Miles (Miles per Minute) 60.0 60.6 60.9 62.2 61.3 61.9 62.2 62.9 63.3 63.9 64.5 65.1 64.9 65.9 66.1 66.5 66.7 67.0 67.9 67.9 67.2 68.1 68.4 68.9
Now that you know how many miles your average running day takes to use this formula to determine your average distance. This formula assumes you spend 5 minutes running every minute of your day, or about 1.5 miles per day. If you’re running more, consider using a more aggressive formula such as the following:
Average Running Distance 1 hour 5 minutes 20 minutes 25 minutes 30 minutes 45 minutes 60 minutes 80 minutes 100 minutes
Here is a complete table for running in 3 months:
Monthly Running Total Miles Running Per Month Distance Running Per Day Average Running Distance 1/2 year 8,664.6 9,000.0 7,826.0 5,400.0 2/2 year 8,664.6 8,000.0 8,636.0 9,800.0 2.2 year 7,908.0 5,400.0 5,800.0 4,000.0 4.2 year 7,818.0 4,000.0 3,000.0 2,900.0 2.0 year 7.
So, if you start your journey from the ground up, you can walk a mile a day in less time. How Do I Do It?
1. If you want to start walking a mile a day, make a list of all your personal, personal goals. You could start here.
2. Get a friend or partner to walk with you and do a couple of steps along the way. (If they’re both wearing waterproof or rain jacket, they could do a couple of steps in one.)
3. The best way to begin a walk is with a hike, so try to get on a trail that is safe and well-marked. If you’re on foot, it’s best to start at different points along the path and continue your walk. (If you’re biking, the best advice I can give is to walk the first few miles with a friend or a partner.)
4. Remember that walking with a partner is a bit more physically challenging on a walk than without one, so keep your walking partner on your hip as you take a break for food or beverages.
5. Once you’re done with your hike or run, walk a mile or two for a walk to your car. Walk back to the trailhead.
Would you like to know how many calories you burn walking a mile?
Not many people know. So if you’re going to walk, you’d better make sure that you know how many calories you’re burning by the time you’re getting to your destination.
Here at Health.gov, we’re tracking your steps using wearable devices that are worn around your ankles. Your wrist has sensors that capture your heart rate, blood sugar, speed, and other metrics. When you wear the device, you’re logged into our smart fitness profile where you are encouraged to eat healthier and exercise regularly, but you can also choose to ignore those recommendations and walk away. If we’re not sure what you’ve been eating lately, we can tell — you’re missing an out.
This is precisely the kind of thing that I’d love to be able to do in my home. I love spending time at my favourite neighbourhood park and enjoying the beauty of my home’s landscaping. But how do I know if I’m eating enough protein? Well, it’s not as easy as merely sitting next to somebody else, because we’re all walking and talking when we walk home!
A smart GPS tracking device measures steps taken while you walk and then sends all of our data to Google’s health platform Fitbit so you can monitor your daily progress through the Fitbit app.
What’s important is that we know how much you’ve been eating and the calories you’ve consumed. The more calories you’ve eaten and the more you’ve walked on your daily calorie counts, the better your health! And the more calories you’ve walked, the better, too!
When you walk away from your tracker, your fitness profile updates so you can see how many additional steps you have left when you get to your next destination. Then, when you start your next route, your progress and your fitness profile update with those steps, so you are in the right place at the right time.
Here are some other ways you can see your steps while you go about your day:
You know your total number of steps every day.
You can log those steps from your Fitbit or Garmin Connect.
Also, you can log your steps when you step off an aeroplane, train or ride a horse.
If you have a Fitbit or Garmin Connect watch that is paired with the Fitbit app (for the Apple Watch), you can record your walk and run times directly from your Fitbit or Garmin device.
What Could Be Your Ideal LISS Workout
1. Lifting
One of the hardest muscles of all the muscles is the lats (upper back of the upper body), which we’ll cover in this guide. This is one of the most misunderstood muscles of the body, and we’re going to explain why.
In other words, it looks like a bunch of skinny little legs when you put your hand on it. And when most people look at it this way (which can be a lot of people who don’t like to lift), there’s a bunch of muscle that stretches into it and makes it look pretty.
However, these are the same muscles that most people have to spend a great deal of time in to learn to use in their daily life because they’re so tough to train.
If they could do a routine, that’s not going to change this, but there are a couple of different ways people can improve their deadlift if they were to focus on the lats.
How the Lats Can Improve
A couple of people do this: Mike “The Beast” McDaniel, the head of Strength and Conditioning on CBS Sports, and John Kettle and Dan Lieberman in the “MMA Mag” magazine have done great programs where they train the lats very slowly, very gradually, in the 90s/mid-90s.
The purpose of this is to get your body used to it using a variety of sets and reps. If you’re used to doing it as a single set, and you have a good general understanding of the lats, you can get it going very rapidly.
Here’s how I do my deadlift.
It’s like, a very, very, very light warm-up. It’s about 15-20 reps. It doesn’t have to be this great. But the idea is that I go into it and do 3-3-3-3-3, then I start doing sets of 5 to 10 reps. So it goes from there. This will work both the upper and lower back of the lats and the front of the lats. Then I’ll do three sets of 10 reps.
How Long Will It Take to Walk Miles and Kilometers?
We can’t know the answer to this question until someone does it. But we can calculate how long it probably takes to run 2 miles and 10 kilometres at the same pace.
This equation works as follows: Distance = Time – Distance (miles) (km) x (Time – Time (mile)) x (Time – Distance) x (Time – Time (km))
The equation is the same for any exercise, but we’ll ignore the time-only component in this case because it doesn’t affect the outcome much. We’ll take the equation as written above and subtract distance by the time. We’ll use “Time” to denote distance, so “2:10” would represent the same as “2:09” as we don’t have to use it.
Note: For speed records, the actual time is typically estimated by using a treadmill or a cycle ergometer. So the difference we measure in the equation is probably a bit less than 100 minutes, not a full second.
The result is that we’re probably only running the same distance for 10 miles, or about 60 seconds. We’ll get back to that later.
You Can Walk 100 Miles in 5 Minutes
The other important fact to keep in mind is that if you do the math, then a person can run the same distance for 5 minutes.
The time for the distance between two points is the square root of the distance between them. If your starting line has to be a mile away from the finish line (about 10 miles), then you have walked for one mile before you can get a second starting line (about 12 miles). So for your first-mile run, your distance from the starting line to the finish line is 4 miles (or 3 miles if you’re faster and run a long distance before reaching the finish mark). For your second mile run, your distance from the starting line to the finish line is 8 miles. So your distance from the finishing line to your running goal in a mile is 3.6 miles (or 2.6 miles if you’re faster). If you’re faster (running a long distance on your first mile run), your distance from the finished line is 4 miles; if you’re slower (running a long distance on your first mile run), your distance from your run goal is 9 miles; and if you’re slower (running a long distance on your first mile run), your distance from your run goal is 11.9 miles. It’s the same rule with meters from the start line to the finish line; if you’re faster (running a long distance off a start line), your distance from the finish line to the finish line is 4 miles (or 3 miles if you’re slower and run a long distance before reaching the finish mark); and if you’re slower (running a long distance off a finish line), your distance from the finish line to the finish line is 8 miles (or 5 miles if you’re slower and run a long distance before reaching the finish line); and if you’re faster (running a long distance off a finish line), your distance from the finish line to the finish line is 10 miles (or 6 miles if you’re slower and run a long distance before reaching the finish line); and if you’re slower (running a long distance off a finish line), your distance from your finish line to the finish line is 12 miles (or 7 miles if you’re slower and run a long distance before reaching the finish line).
So, what’s the average amount of time the world’s fastest sprinter has walked?
That’s quite a bit longer than the average American or Brit. But that’s because he or she is running the world record in some other sport.
To figure this out, we’ll do two more calculations. First, let’s say we’re going to compare how fast this American (and Brit) sprinter walked at 5 yards per second. We’ll divide that time by 100 to get the number required to break the 100-yard barrier.
Then, in the calculation of the actual distance, we’ll subtract the time and make the difference in miles. Read more on how Walking can help you in your life.
How Many Miles Is a 1k Run?
A 1k run is a marathon distance that is completed in 2 hours, 15 minutes, 7 seconds. Some people might think about using the number of the mile, and if you do, that’s fine. If you do not want to know the number of miles you are running, then you need to look up the distance on your phone or website.
1,200 miles is a 10-hour marathon and is usually run in 5 days.
1,800 miles is a 3-days marathon, which is generally 5-days.
2,000 miles is a 4-days marathon with an optional 5-daybreak or a 2-day marathon.
2,400 miles is a 1,000 mile ultra marathon which is usually 3-days.
We’ll give you some tips on how to maximize your best running results on a running trip.
1. Get an Early Start
If you have a day off the following morning, it’s probably best if you get the first run or two out of the door early.
That way, you will have more time to focus on eating and eating better the next time!
We also highly encourage you to make sure you get the “first-mile” workout before you leave your hotel.
As we just discussed, there are some benefits to having the first mile.
You can feel great right out from the gate!
It can give you something to think about for the day ahead.
In the end, a well-planned, well-balanced, balanced, and effective running workout is going to help you maximize your best running results.
2. Get Your Calories in a Quickly
If you have any chronic health issue, this is a great time to get that issue out of your system.
It’s a great time to exercise, to eat healthy snacks and to get some good quality time with family.
It can take just a few minutes or minutes and a little money to get in shape.
We encourage you to do as much as possible.
You may even need to put together one or two more runs regularly as you get in better shape!
Don’t give up! There is always a way to get in shape for running.
We also highly encourage you to do as much as possible.
You can read more about the benefits of getting some good quality running out on a running trip by clicking here.
3. Run the Longest Distance Possible
In our sport, we all have a certain threshold of distance that we can go before it starts becoming too taxing.
For example, some people can go for 3 to 4 miles but are not able to go longer than 10 miles with a full heart beating.
If you can’t run longer than a mile or two, you are too far from the next goal you set.
How Many Minutes Should I Take To Walk?
There are many opinions about the optimal time for walking, many of them based on the body’s natural reaction to walking. One of the reasons that walking speed seems to increase as we get older is that we can slow down and walk more slowly as our muscles age. However, research suggests that this isn’t always true.
In fact, the average age to walk is 25 years old. A recent study published in the British Journal of Medicine found that the average age of the oldest people to walk an average of 15 minutes daily was 33.8 years old, compared to 31 years old for those who did it less than 5 minutes a day. The researchers suggested that the reason why older people don’t walk 5 minutes a day is that they don’t need to!
The 1-Mile Walking Test
The first test on the Walk-Around-The-Track is done with the 1-mile loop from the start of the course, which starts with a short walk-around along the track to the middle portion of the circuit before heading back through the loop. The 1-mile test is used to determine how a rider would be able to accomplish the same speed in a race. The first race for this test was a 50k race at the Chicago Marathon. The 50k course included a 1.5-mile walk-around. The following year saw the competition at the Philadelphia Marathon, which was used as the first 50k race. In this second year of the event, the runners walked along the track for a total of 1.9 miles to get a good understanding of how they would be able, from start to finish, to run a 1.9-mile pace.
The 1-mile test is done by measuring the average distance over a given number of kilometres. The range is measured by taking the total length from start to finish, dividing that average distance by the distance for the whole race distance, and multiplying by 100. For the first two years, the distance was determined using 1 mile as the measurement standard. In the third and fourth years and before, the distance was determined using 2 meters as the standard.
The 1-mile test is done for the first time with a 50km race. The first race for the 50km race at the Chicago Marathon, the Chicago Marathon was used as the first 50km race. For starters, the race distance is determined as 3.5 miles as the race distance in the first four years of the competition. As the race distance increased, the runners were given the option of taking the distance, starting with 1.5 miles as their starting distance, going one mile at a time as they approached the finish line, or continuing the race until they ran out of energy, which is why the race distance was 2.5 miles in 2006 and 2.75 miles in 2007.
How Long Does It Take to Bike a Mile
The typical bicycle commute from Point A to Point B takes anywhere from 40 to 120 minutes, depending on the distance you want to bike in. On average, bike commuters tend to ride the bike from Point A to Point B approximately 3.2 miles, which equates to an average of 10 miles.
In addition to the actual time it takes to bike the distance, you also have to take some factors into account. For example, if you commute by car, chances it will take less than 10 minutes to get from one point to another. Therefore, you’ll spend less time cycling around the city and less time commuting.
If you don’t take into account such factors, then, your average bike trip will be significantly longer than 15 minutes (about 45 minutes). You will be spending more time commuting than cycling.
How to Plan Bicycling
To help you get to work more efficiently, you can plan your biking trips around the school, work, or the grocery store where you’re likely to visit often. Here are some ways to make things easier, like setting aside time for lunch or shopping.
If you’re planning your bicycle trip for more than the usual commute and would like to take your time, you could consider taking a walk to cool off before the bike ride. A 20-minute walk to cool off is recommended for most people, and you’re better off doing so when you can do so in as short of time as necessary.
If you’re planning a bike trip for school, visit a bike rental office to find a bike in short supply and then schedule a ride for yourself, or find someone who can help you find a bike for you. Be sure that you pay extra to get a rental bike and that you don’t need to buy a new one at the last minute. When you are looking for a new bike, ask for advice on how long to ride a certain amount (e.g. 20-minute walk), as this will help you decide how many minutes or miles to ride.
