QUESTION: How do you think Jinwoo would react to his partner questioning his taste in lovers? (ie. Being interested in Reader themselves)

How id imagine the confession would go: Jinwoo, pre-awakening: I like you *holds bouquet of flowers Reader, confused: um! *looks around to see if he's talking to someone behind them before pointing at themselves confused*... me? Jinwoo: Yes, You. Reader, Shocked: oh! Um... I like you too... but *hesitates* are you sure? About me??

The feeling is mutual!!! It's just his lover doesn't have alot of confidence in themselves. Or any confidence into getting a romance with anyone, let alone Jinwoo!! Reader feels like they have ZERO RIZZ (reader has enough rizz to woo Jinwoo so...).

Like would he hype them up???? Mayhaps but in subtle ways though I'd imagine🤔🤔. You think he'd be extra affectionate when reader gets shy??? Would this differ pre and post awakening?? (I imagine Jinwoo and reader wouldn't want the relationship public due to safety since hes a hunter and all)

Reader has to calm down not only a PISSED jinwoo but his Shadows too (mainly Jinwoo though)!! And maybe being the only reason Jinwoo hadn't gone on a rampage after everything setted. Was he bribed with a heated makout session and plenty of cuddles afterwards to temper his rage and soothe his anxiety, yes. Did it work??? Probably. If it did??That's none of our buisness.

Id imagie Cha Hae-in would feel bad™ if they found out about Jinwoo and reader (just assuming the two being best friends)?? Being like "oh shit someone, a civilian no less, almost died because of her fans" Even worse if later on she learns that they're together aaaaa

But like seriously, what a messed up reminder of the power S-Rank Hunter have on the media. Yes, they know about their celebrity status affecting what they can or can't do but like this??? No one deserves that

Its a civilian going against fans that are most likely hunters, the very individuals hunters are ment to protect from monsters ever since the dungeons appeared

THE HUNTERS USED A HIGH RANKED MONSTER TO TARGET A CIVILIAN (the mutual enemy internationally)

this was all done because PEOPLE BEING ENTITLMENT OF THE RELATIONSHIPS OF THE S-RANK HUNTERS.

This is furthur solidified and makes the WHOLE DEBACHLE worse because only EXPERIENCED hunters would have the knowledge and experince to be able to lure a monster from a dungeon break to a specific location, especially if reader wasn't even near the dungeon in the first place.

But also thank you for sharing your Cu theories and analysis with me. I like talking about this guy a lot, but he is absolutely my BLIND SPOT when it comes to understanding!

Cu (Lancer) HAHAHAHA YESSS

This time I am going to be a lot more selfish (extremely selfish) and discuss my personal feelings on the character (which I tend to avoid doing)- based on all the bits I circled. Firstly yeah there is a deep seated reason why I love this character.

It's because well, Cu Chulainn does represent certain qualities that I am obsessed with and yearn deeply for. The way he guards, protects, supports, and takes care of his inner circle is pretty moving. He really cranes out his neck for those that matter to him, and as the white day quiz says; it's like he's kind of a warm blanket as an ally. Just the way he interacts with others in Fuyuki emphasises this, he can be so easy to talk to; he'll offer some great services, and though he can be annoying sometimes, he can be great company too.

Yes I get the people who say Cu is a terrifying warrior- which is especially showcased in how he plays around with weaker opponents/ kills em quickly and talks to them in a friendly yet horrifyingly cold manner concurrently- and he could kill me in my sleep (or anywhere for that matter) BUT he can be so warm as well- or cold- idk he's SEASONAL!!!!!

Yeah, his loyalty is DEFINITELY context dependent (he is a pretty loyal warrior and serves a lord and a friend very well but has had struggles when it comes to loyalty as a lover.... but I tend not to ever talk about that, in fear of pissing off the fans that believe he's a very reliable lover. I'm sorry Cu fans, but I don't quite agree, like YES he can be a good lover but also YES he can fuck up greatly too); but when he cares, he cares deeply and he does his all to be helpful to others- even to the point of self-sacrifice at times-and I really respect that a lot.

Feels like he is a great guy to have as an ally/ friend, which is why I ended up being unable to stop him from becoming MY FAVOURITE GUY OF ALL TIME (sorry gilgamesh).

But there is also a deep seated reason why I hate him so much. I think most of it is just jealousy from the fact that he embraces his role as an outsider, as the one who doesn't quite fit in anywhere; yet is also so popular despite that. I am jealous of his customer service skills, and how he knows so expertly well to craft himself in a way that showcases his best sides to others, and how he isn't afraid to show off his powers. And I am jealous that there are some who see how fucked up he can get, but they still adore him regardless; and he adores them equally too. I AM SO JEALOUS OF CU CHULAINN (especially Lancer) LMAO ITS SO FUNNY I SWEAR TO GOD! Also wtf how dare he rock his blue ponytail and garish clothing and still look sexy I hate it (joking id bang him if he even so much as offered).

And then the next point is I do not like to discuss Cu Chulainn on tumblr (but I LOVE hearing other people's opinions of him). I have witnessed just how mean Cu discourse can get for over 6 years now and it doesn't seem to be improving. However, I have also spoken to many kind and cool Cu fans as well, so the online Cu experience can vary. This is a very unpopular opinion but I LOVE the cute Cu fanarts just as much as the scary ones (cuz its hot i think the duality is SEXY AS FUCK).

But to me the main bit that exhausts me is that it's like I wish there could be a marriage between the different perspectives of this guy, cuz in my opinion I don't really think anyone has gotten him wrong, and it's more like they get him right but maybe certain aspects of him may be more to their particular focus, which is totally fine. I like hearing contrasting takes of Lancer Cu and hope that will continue forevermore.

Like Lancer Cu is full of duality and conflicting and contrasting elements, I believe he just is, y'know. Lancer Cu. But somehow there are loads of tumblr battles about which aspects are more valuable/ less worthy to look at, which REALLY CONFUSES ME!!! And people even sometimes deny Copious Cu Crimes (Cu/CCC) or want to squash out Cute Cu Content (Cu/CCC) which worries me.

(But I am the person who misunderstood his core character for over 6 years, so I admit I used to do this mistake myself. I used to focus so much on his warrior and cold side that I forgot about his affectionate and loving side!)

Why can't warrior cu, adorable cu, scary cu, criminal cu, fucked up cu, mean cu, nice cu, helper cu, loving cu, grumpy ass cu, ruthless cu, perceptive cu, monster cu and funny cu all coexist- please im begging you. And yeah, I also avoid talking about the more negative shenanigans that occurred in certain versions of his myth cuz some of his fans get really angry about it or turn it around to make it seem like I'm the one with a problem for raising it (this actually happened once lmao).

Sorry, I know he did his best to protect his masters in fate and his province as a myth-hero, but the man still also a war criminal in my eyes; through and through. LMAO that is an unpopular take, though. But tbh, I mean if I was a citizen in a holy grail war and Lancer had a master that was like 'hey lancer, drink em for mana' I feel like even if he disapproved, he'd still do it anyway.... That's just how I view him. He can be so wonderful and lovely, but duty comes before all else. That's the vibe he gives me personally. That's why I see his loyalty as context dependent based on individuals involved and the situation itself.

Next yeah, I have unwillingly come around to him because I really did not want to like him at first (I found him intimidating and thought he was wearing a clownsuit at first) but so much for that! Thanks a lot Cu!!! Seriously. One second I was shocked when I witnessed him coldly and ruthlessly kill Shirou on orders and hated on his outfit; next second I was pissing myself with laughter at his banter with Tohsaka Rin- and drooling over that EXACT SAME OUTFIT. How the hell does Lancer Cu even DO THAT? He was just so easy for me to like that I didn't even realise he was my blorbo until I was in deep and I haven't come out since (help me).

Oh gosh it's tough answering every circle. I want to give up! But if he can crack my spine like a crawfish and slurp me up I would likely be grateful. Is this an innuendo or literal though, because if it is literal I will be screaming in pain. But hey, if he's worth it he can slurp my insides anytime (nah i'd cry).

Yeah, my worst mistake and the reason why I struggle so much to characterise Lancer Cu decently is because I have projected so heavily and so MESSILY onto him that I accidentally gave him some of my real life headcanons. And it is so creepy because hopefully me and this guy aren't similar. I mean, I don't think I'm like Lancer Cu at all (most people say I'm like Archer, who I don't really see myself as either). But sorry Lancer Cu, I definitely threw some of my trauma of feeling like an outsider onto you. MY BAD!

Could I make him worse? HAHAHA, YES. Because I can challenge him in terms of ideals (I doubt he'd take me seriously though), and could very easily piss him off. I think my personality is definitely an antithesis to his, maybe I'm even his opposite. Because he's like 'ENJOY THE MOMENT, KEEP BALLING EVEN IF YOUR LIFE IS SHIT, OVERCOME AND ADAPT TO SUFFERING' and he does that very well, even when things knock him to the floor he keeps going (but then in turn runs away from certain issues and struggles to share his traumas).

But I could probably piss him off by saying 'IM BALLING AND OVERCOMING THINGS LIKE YOU BUT THE SUFFERING ISNT FUCKING ENDING AND THE PAIN IS GETTING WORSE THIS IS BULLSHIT' is that a clown 2 clown communication???? I have no idea. I bet he'd hate me for saying that though but that's okay, maybe he'd simply brush me off- but if he was a debate guy I would debate him!

Yeah the pretty privilage, he is a really beautiful man. That's all. He is so beautiful- stunning, even. TT-TT Super pretty. Doesn't help that his personality is interesting as well. Maybe I am just obsessed with him?? And yeah, he is kinda the white noise in my brain, he infiltrates my own actions and life choices by a great deal, I often think sometimes 'HEY WHAT WOULD LANCER CU DO? HOW WOULD HE REACT?' to even the simplest things and start laughing, or someone can remind me of him and I start laughing, or I think 'oh damn wish i could talk to him' I am like the PARASOCIAL FAN! HELP!!!! Also I think about him at random times. Lately, I have become more normal(?) about him but all it takes is 1 thing and he's back in my brain full time again.

Yeah, he is very complex and well written in my personal opinion. I think Nasu and the crew have done really well. I love how great a job they've done of making him seem like an annoying bawdy loud man as well as an incredibly intelligent, perceptive and agile warrior at the same time (and then he can even be bashful too). He a great character, he has so much nuances like a real human being so he gets a 10/10 from me. One personal example I have is that I used to think Cu was ALWAYS the happy loud funny annoying flirt guy off the job, until I started seeing scenes in anime like Emiya Gohan which showcases how no actually he also can be quiet sometimes and enjoy a bit of time alone, or needs time to disengage and cool off by himself.

I mean I don't usually even notice these aspects of characters. But with Lancer Cu, I constantly have to re-learn how to appreciate him because of how varied his character is.

Yeah I got the brainrot, but it's the brainrot of constantly having to readjust the way in which I view him. And the extreme brainrot I get whenever I start going bazongas about his hotness. I keep my Lancer Cu horny thoughts to myself for that reason lmao, I mean I have a crapload of suppressed horny thoughts so i think its horny brainrot in regards to him :)

Idk... I am biting my fist? The more appearances, the better. I am glad he is popular = more canon and fanon content.

As for putting him in situations, I would say stop but .... it's kind of entertaining. But I'd like to see him win a grail war someday. ALSO THOUGH THE WHOLE BAZETT STORY IS SO SAD BRUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i pray for an alternate saga where Cu and Bazett remain master/servant for the whole war cuz I'd cry if that happened and enshrine it my heart 4eva. I forgot my point for this part now....

For the next one, I used to need Lancer Cu in this way. It was an extremely unhealthy and scary time in my life to be frank. It took me through a journey where I had to confront some very personal issues and traumas. SO THANK YOU LANCER CU FOR FORCING ME TO FACE MY TRAUMAS!!!! Cuz yeah when I say I used to rely heavily on this blorbo to live.... my god. Yeah. It was not a good time. Hahahaha... yeah it was the worst time ever. It took me a long time to even admit he was my blorbo, cuz of all the issues it unleashed in my own personal life.

Headcanon/research: So there’s a very interesting theory about how Jack could potentially have a little bit of ‘shining’ to him, aka psychic ability. Hear me out on this, because honestly, having examined this a second time, I’m definitely taking it & going to be toying around with it in my portrayal.

When Danny and Hallorann talk privately on closing day at the Overlook, the topic of Jack's ‘shining’ is raised: [Hallorann] had probed at the boy's father and he just didn't know. It wasn't like meeting someone who had the shine, or someone who definitely did not. Poking at Danny's father had been…strange, as if Jack Torrance had something—something— […] he was holding in so deeply submerged in himself that it was impossible to get to.

Hallorann decides to leave his doubts at the door and tells Danny, "I don't think he shines at all". Yet we are made aware that much of what Hallorann tells Danny at this point is to comfort the boy and soothe his fears. Bear in mind too that Hallorann tells Danny that people who have no shine whatsoever are safe from the Overlook’s influence & cannot perceive anything wrong: if this is true (there’s no evidence to say it isn’t), then Jack most definitely has some ‘shining’ to him as he & Danny are the only characters who strongly perceive the influence so early on in the book (Wendy, whom Hallorann believes has a bit of ‘shining’ to her because she is a mother, does not begin to perceive anything wrong until after them - she does not even actually properly hear/see anything until after them).

Consider the parallel experiences Jack and Danny have. Almost everything that happens to Danny also happens to Jack, with some variation. They both have a bizarre experience with the clock in the ballroom; they both enter 217 and have a scary time; they both have visions of Jack murdering Danny and Wendy; they both encounter the hedge animals and Roger, the dog-costumed spirit; & they both "sleepwalk." All in all, Jack experiences a roughly equal amount of paranormal activity with Danny.

Compare the moment before Danny sees REDRUM with Tony (His brow furrowed and […] his hand clenched in tight fists. Danny sighed quietly and his body slumped on the curb as if all the muscles had gone out of it.[…] His chin sank into his chest. Then there was a dim painless tug as part of him got up and ran after Tony.) to before Jack goes into a state and breaks the radio. He's in the cellar, going through the Overlook's papers (the receipts slipped from his relaxing hand […]; his eyelids, which had settled shut with his father's image tattooed on their backs […], opened a little bit and then slipped back down again. He twitched a little. Consciousness […] seesawed lazily downward.): there are similarities here. Danny’s experience comes from the chapter titled "Shadowland" and Jack’s is from the chapter titled "Dreamland." This seems to be a deliberate distinguishing between Danny's self-induced experience, and Jack's experience when he's involuntarily drifted off. If Jack does shine, he is not aware of it, whereas Danny is completely aware of his ability and has some control over it.

Like Danny, Jack often loses time: his experience with the wasp nest and with the hedge animals both include moments of slipping away. He forgets himself, either while considering his book or remembering his father. This is similar to Danny's own experience. Danny has some control, but not much: when he concentrates on reading his parent's minds, he might get taken from the world of "real things."

I’m not saying this is 100% book canon nor that this is what Stephen King wanted his readers to think. I’m not even saying that Stephen King meant for this theory to happen. All I’m saying is there are odd similarities here & I personally will be incorporating the theory in to my writing. I understand that the Overlook needing Jack (albeit for differing reasons as to why it needed Danny) may explain why Jack was so susceptible to the hotel’s influence, but you have to bear in mind that the characters that are mentioned seeing spirits are those with at least a little of ‘the shining’ - Hallorann, Danny, Wendy, & one past chambermaid at the Overlook are mentioned as having a ‘shine’ & they all, at some point, witness first-hand the entities in the hotel. So why not include Jack in that group too?

Hey there, I was happy to find your Gakuen Alice posts. I have always been a fan and Gakuen Alice related analysis have almost dried up these days. You touched on something in your NatsuMikan analysis posts, about the child abuse issues in the manga and I am so glad you brought it up. I feel like the manga in general handled it a bit too lightly, and by lightly I mean the perpetrators get forgiven without much repercussions. I would love to discuss this more with you and hear your opinions on it

i have a billion thoughts on the child abuse in ga. tmi ig but im a victim of child abuse myself so that aspect of the manga was actually one of the things that i related to and felt myself drawn to when i first got into it. when i was younger i felt a lot of kinship with natsume and the other da kids because of what they had to go through. on the other hand, this child abuse was handled pretty sloppily and its very disappointing.

the anime is one thing (the way they handle child abuse in the anime is literally a joke and is enough to make someone puke tbh) but the manga really fumbles it as well. having the da class continue to exist even after the esp loses power, as though the da students are CHOOSING to be in it now instead of being forced is a MESS! i hate it! no child should be going on missions or risking their lives for ANYTHING and any school that permits that is neglecting the safety of children and since the school is acting as a guardian, all sorts of ethical and legal conditions are being failed and alice academy is guilty of child endangerment, child neglect, and child abuse! all at once!

i know some ppl (including ig the mangaka herself) think that because the students are electing to participate that it means no crime is being committed but uhhh children cannot "elect" to do something like that. the contracts of minors are not legally binding and if their guardians (parents or school) sign off on something like that then... again.... child endangerment and abuse.

im also a little salty that natsume's mask pretty much disappeared after a while. it was a really great way of showing the tiny casual ways that natsume is abused every day and considering that it was his "symbol" youd think it would be around way more.

natsume still going on missions, the da class still existing, and persona having a "happily ever after" with a student who he abused are all pretty messy! and the thing is that if the ending had been longer and spent more time wrapping up all the characters' stories theres a chance id be a lot less angry! but unfortunately the end is hasty and rushed and so a lot of the loose ends remain untied and the story as a whole isn't "up in the air". it's just... messy.

How To Find a PT

Congratulations on moving forward on strengthening your skating; I think this’ll be a lot for fun for you. This was a pretty cool question, because I’m not as familiar with figure skating resources and I got to do some exploring. A lot depends on your needs and wherever you are, but I think you’re going find more options than you might expect.

First, I agree that looking for a PT with experience working with skaters is probably right for you. You have a clear goal for yourself, and like I’ve discussed before on this blog your baseline posture/mobility and the ideal posture/mobility for what you want to do are gonna be different from a non-skater’s.

A good PT will do their research and be able to help you even if they haven’t seen exactly your case before, so if it turns out there isn’t a skating specialist around that’ll work for you, you can certainly get some benefit from a general sports PT. But if you can, filtering for skating specialists will save you time and trouble.

Use your networks

Figure skating is figure skating. Somebody is gonna know somebody. 

Figure skating culture can also really convince you that you the skater are not supposed to ask for things, though, so it’s a good idea to sit down with a notepad for a minute and think about:

what have I tried and what’s worked for me? 

 Have you had injuries or conditions that required medical care? 

Were you given those little paper sheets with rehab exercises to do and did you try them? 

Have you noticed any patterns or tricks like, “hey, it really hurts when I do ___ but if I ice before I do it that helps.”

What are my goals?

Are you thinking in terms of rehabbing to get back to your earlier level, or preventing further injury, or both? 

What’s your time frame? How much time can you spend, and how much do you want to?

Do you want to be in-and-done to get an official opinion and then work by yourself, or do you want more hands-on guidance and a working relationship?

 What kind of person are you looking for—a strict coach’s attitude to drive you, or someone who’ll give more encouragement?  

Then you can tuck that away and start poking around. I recommend a 50/50 of googling and talking to people, but go with whichever you trust and are comfortable with.

If you go to a rink, you can ask basically anyone there for their ideas. (You don’t have to tell them anything personal, you can just say, “So, skating, huh. You know any folks that’d help a fellow skate better?”) Any figure skating coach should be cross-trained, and they should know their resources. Rink managers will also know the names of local providers and may have deals worked out. If it’s a university rink, there’ll be an in-house sports med department who’ll often offer some services even if you’re not a competitive athlete for the school and will know your options. The skate mothers will Know.

Ask providers you’ve worked with in the past. If you have a primary care doctor, let them know you’re interested in PT. If you’ve ever had surgery on your knees, check in with that provider and see if they have any names to refer you to.

If you’d rather internet, you can search the American Physical Therapy Association database at MoveForwardPT by region.

 It’ll then offer you the option to filter by Practice Area—you’ll want to try Fitness and Wellness and Musculoskeletal. 

Each provider will then show up with their “practice focus” like this:

They write those themselves, so there isn’t really a standard meaning. ‘Sports Physical Therapy’ suggests that they do relatively acute, focused rehab. Seeing ‘Athletic Training’ and/or ’Sports Performance and Enhancement’ suggests that they work longer-term one-on-one as you train. (A lot people say both. Again, these just give you a sense of what they want you to know about them.)

If you then select a provider, you’ll see more on their professional experience, facility, and availability, with their contact information.

If you’re a member of US Figure Skating, you should be able to search for local providers and referrals from other skaters through the U.S. Figure Skating National Medical Network.

I personally wouldn’t trust USFS with a piece of string, and I don’t know how useful the database is outside of, like, the skating hub cities. But the PTs in the network are independent providers—they don’t all work for USFS, and most will work with any clients. You just need a membership ID to search the database, so if you aren’t a member you could find someone at your rink who is and ask them to help you search.

Once you’ve got a name:

Go ahead and contact them in whatever format you prefer. Their contact info is on their bios for a reason! You want to know if you’re a match before you start working together, and so do they. Just like a therapist or a surgeon or a tattoo artist, a good PT will want to tell you about their experience, the kinds of problems they see, and their particular style. They should be telling you about their privacy policy, and their non-discrimination policy, before you even ask.

When you meet:

Bring your notes

Go ahead and count the little things. We keep personal things in our offices on purpose to tell you about us. If you don’t like how much Chicago gear they have on the wall or how they talk to you or how they carry themselves around your personal space, count that. If you can chat comfortably with them, count that too; that’s worth a lot more than their degrees or how many other skaters they’ve seen.

Look for signs of respect. Look at where they sit: all healthcare providers are supposed to be trained not to get between you and the door, so if you see them deliberately moving, that’s a good sign. 

PT have to get their hands all up on patients, and the good ones are great about it: you should hear them say exactly what they’re going to do before they touch you,  explaining while they work, and see them deliberately warming their hands, only moving your clothes as much as they have to for each assessment, and covering you back up as soon as they’re done with something.

If it’s an office practice, talk to the nurse! They see all the patients that the PT sees, and their clinical judgement informs the whole practice. Ask them about the practice and tell them about your goals. The PT is a specialist, while the nurse is there to provide holistic care: they know a little about all the different resources that might be able to help you. And they also know or have worked with or know a nurse who’s worked with everybody in the area—they’ll be the one to say, “hey, water therapy really worked for our last client, maybe try that,” or “Dr. Bronner over on Spring Street does more work with clients like you, maybe give him a call.” They’ll also be able to help you with scheduling, which is a pretty big deal for long-term PT.

If one PT isn’t a match for you, it’s very appropriate to ask for them for recommendations!

Last:

Keep what you want in front of you, but be open to trying things you don’t expect. It’s very possible that a good PT will look at you and say, “I hear that your knees are bugging you, but that’s only happening because your hips are fucked up,” or “We’re going to start by relaxing your lower back and building strength in your core so you can use a posture that stresses your knees less.” Or you’ll go in wanting exercises to do on the ice but what ends up working for you is heat therapy or strength training. Try stuff, give it some time, and if that one thing isn’t the thing for you (including the first PT you work with), you can move on and something else will be.

RYAN DESTINY? NO, THAT’S ACTUALLY DAPHNE GREENGRASS FROM THE GOLDEN TRIO ERA. YOU KNOW, THE CHILD OF DARIUS GREENGRASS AND PORTIA TRAVERS? ABOUT TO BEGIN SIXTH YEAR, THIS SLYTHERIN STUDENT IS SIDED WITH THE NEUTRALS. SHE IDENTIFIES AS A DEMI-GIRL AND IS A PUREBLOOD WHO IS KNOWN TO BE MANIPULATIVE, ALOOF, AND CHAMELEON BUT ALSO AMBITIOUS, SENSIBLE, AND INTELLIGENT.

Daphne on the outside is very much reminiscent of Cersei Lannister and Ru Paul’s child -- and some traits ( grudge-holding, #teampetty, bluntness, manipulative -- fed up, sometimes flamboyant, and protecting a grand image that’s like a performance everytime she seems to talk ) are more apparent than others. Like Cersei she craves power & wine, unlike Cersei she is fascinated by people and has had to be a chameleon her entire life. She’s able to transform herself into your best friend, your confidant, your worst enemy and your number one fan depending on which situation she’s in and who’s she’s talking to. There’s only a few people she’s truly herself with ( whoever that is ), at least, not completely acting around, and those people are Astoria, Draco, and I imagine a few of the other Slytherin girls ( SKAWD!!! ). Even then, she has to hype up some of the bigotry surrounding blood purity and tolerate some of that ... ignorance. 

If you need revenge or to fuck someone up verbally, you go to Daphne to get the job done. If you need an honest opinion on your outfit, you go to Daphne because even if you’re not her friend, unless she’s trying to embarrass you, she’s not going to lie to you and say you look good when you don’t. Need someone to complain about petty things with and drink wine while doing makeup? Ask Daphne. The best thing at Pureblood events to her is the alcohol and the fact that she gets to dress up extravagantly because her image & the images she portrays are her shield from real, honest, judgement on herself. Someone she’s had to push down to survive, someone she’s had to put on mute and tear apart to live among an intolerant Pureblood Society. 

Darius Greengrass had a sister, and that sister is Daphne’s REAL mother. Daphne was raised away from the Pureblood Society completely for the first seven years of her life -- her mother had them live near a muggle village. Her mother was never interested in the politics, and didn’t have a duty to be. She had a child with her arranged, who died during her pregnancy ( she wasn’t devastated, not really ), and had Daphne. They lived together isolated from much of that world, Daphne not very aware of the hate towards muggleborns until she went to an event at 4 ( they had to come see the new baby now toddler, it had been THREE YEARS since she talked to them last ) meeting Astoria for the first time and hearing various families make certain comments here and there. Her mother was tightlipped, kept to herself, and deflected questions and Daphne NOTICED. On their way home, Daphne asked her mother what it all meant and she explained it all. Not only was Daphne horrified, but she was incredulous. Her favorite shops were muggle shops after all and she’d never seen muggles act savagely or strangely. Her mother taught her that everyone deserved her tolerance, that they deserved to be listened to, despite blood status or what they looked like BUT that they had family who didn’t think the same way. Daphne took it to heart, determined to not be like them. 

At 7, her mother died and she was left to be with the family she didn’t want to be like at all and realized that if she didn’t smarten up or act the way they wanted her to, she’d be in trouble. Daphne saw the opulence and started to fall in love with it as an escape from her duty, which was a complete 180 to her life before. One story cottages turned into grand mansions, water turned into wine, jumpers & chunky bracelets turned into silk dresses and diamonds --  and so she became the wix she is today. She watched her parents manipulate and she learned to observe people carefully for their flaws, their weaknesses & their desires. She needed the upperhand as she was so late to the party, she needed the power over them before they could see that she was really just an orphaned girl doing what she had to to survive. Daphne molded herself, built herself up to be a pilar in the society she had once loathed, a formidable one that no one doubted belonged there even if she did, deep down. Venomous honey dripped off her tongue as she used people, there was a hunger to survive, and a desperation to be more than she was. To thrive. To show them all up.

The opulence wasn’t the best thing she gained, it was a sisterhood. Even though they are not sisters by blood, Daphne can’t think of a life without Astoria. Her sister and her grew up side by side, when Daphne cried at night after losing her mother, Astoria was there. Astoria was her best friend, the one who knew her in her entirety and loved her still. Daphne to this day would kill and die for her sister, and as they’ve grown up together both have acknowledged that this war isn’t something they believe in, that their parents teachings were completely wrong ( though, Daphne’s known it all along, she was happy that she could confess this truth to Astoria as well ). Daphne never has to put up an act, put on a performance around Astoria and she’s more than grateful for that respite as she doubts the kind of person she is. Is she someone her mom would be proud of now? She truly doesn’t know. She hopes that she would at least understand why she became who she did. To survive. Her gender is another thing entirely, something she knows absolutely nothing about. ( So, while I headcanon Daphne as a demi-girl, Daphne does not see herself as one. )

The war isn’t something Daphne wants to involve herself in -- she’s seen both sides, she recognizes that this might make her cowardly, but people she admires & cares about are on both sides. She’s seen how both sides seem to operate, how BOTH sides hurt innocent people. Though she knows many of her fellow Slytherins are on a side that she’s supposed to be more aligned with, she just thinks it’s trivial. Her goals are to stay alive, keep her sister alive, and to gain any & every opportunity at survival and success that she can. Would Daphne became a Death Eater to save her sister from having to do so? Definitely. Adversely, would she join Dumbledore’s Army if she felt it was best path at survival and her sister’s as well? Absolutely. Like her adoptive parents, she’s an opportunist, but is also waiting for her opportunity to quietly change how people think about muggles, muggleborns and halfbloods. She knows now isn’t a good time to do so. So, Daphne drinks wine, plays her part, builds up her resume, waiting for the perfect time to strike.

BTS’s Jin Loving and accepting yourself is a key part of BTS’s message, and no one has embraced it better than Jin! His handsomeness has been acknowledged by many fans across the world, but Jin knows that the most important opinion when it comes to loving yourself is, well, yourself.

He refers to himself publicly as “worldwide handsome” and frequently comments on his own attractiveness. This might sometimes embarrass his fellow members, but fans know that this is part of Jin’s charm!

On a broadcast he shared that whenever he went to lunch with his juniors as a student, he would never run but always maintain an aura by walking slowly. He would also deliberately sideways glance at the people around him while pretending to look casually around him.

ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo

Cha Eun Woo’s handsomeness has gotten him compared to many webtoon and manwha characters, culminating in his getting the role of the male lead in “My ID Is Gangnam Beauty” (a JTBC drama based on a webtoon). On a recent radio show appearance with ASTRO, he and Moonbin were asked if they ever got tired of being called good-looking.

Moonbin said, “I like it, but Eun Woo might be tired of it.” However, Cha Eun Woo replied, “No, I feel good every time I hear it.”

“Shape of Water” is like “The Creature from the Black Lagoon” meets “Romeo and Juliet” meets Lovecraft! 

Holy…..well, you know where I was going with that this movie is phenomenal. If you haven’t seen it you definitely have heard about “The Shape of Water“, Guillermo Del Toro’s latest film. “Shape of Water” has really impacted the awards season and there is a very good reason, it is as I said to start with absolutely phenomenal. “Shape of Water” is a beautiful love story set in a simpler time, Eliza a mute housekeeper at a military facility that just captured a very unique asset feels isolated though she is surrounded by people that love her. This all changes when she finds a kindred soul in the freshly captured asset brought into the lab, an amphibious biped…in other words a fish-man ala “The Creature From The Black Lagoon“. The two and their friends become embroiled in a spy game and must find a way to save the creature from becoming a tool in the cold war. Will love conquer all? Or will the cold war claim the two kindred souls as victims?

You know I don’t do spoilers but I will let you know what I think of “The Shape of Water“. So let’s get that going…

I think you already know that this is going to be a good review, but why is this film garnering such praise. If for no other reason than the story this film is well worth your time. “Shape of Water’s” story is a timely piece with genuine characters, relationships that you can empathize with and relate to all thrown together with this magical element.  The writers, Del Toro included, masterfully made this story more about the love and isolation than the fact Eliza (Sally Hawkins) was making out with a fish.There are so many levels of love stories in this film from the obvious romance to the father/daughter love of Eliza and her neighbor, Giles (Richard Jenkins) to Eliza’s friendship, Zelda(Octavia Spencer). The multi-faceted tale pulls at your heartstrings and sets you up with a villain that you eagerly await to get his comeuppance. Though the story was masterfully crafted it would not have been nearly as impactful without the stellar cast including the remarkably emotional portrayal of the creature by Doug Jones. This cast took the story and developed new levels of insightfulness and even humor making this movie truly able to fall under the moniker film. I know what you are saying they are the same thing but in my mind, they are two distinctly different things. Movies are fun and easy to watch, they are the blockbusters that invade our theaters every summer and though are fantastic and fun to watch do not (and please remember this is as always only my opinion) find there way to the artistic heights that would dubb them masterpieces of the cinematic arts…in other words a film.

So what about the technique and technical portions of “Shape of Water“…don’t worry I was just about to dive into them (see what I did, I had to at least get one pun in)…

The emotion that Sally Hawkins and Doug Jones elicit from the audience in “Shape of Water is outstanding! Oh yeah and not to mention the kick-ass effects.

What can I say about the work done behind the camera? Just as with the story, it was amazing from the director (I love Del Toro!) to the cinematography to the actual visual and special effects all was masterfully executed.  Del Toro has a way of partnering with his cinematographer that leads to his works having a cohesiveness that not every Hollywood director can find. His hands and imprints can be seen on everything from the story to the set design to the music and it is very evident as it is in every one of his films that he has a die-hard love for all things Lovecraftian. Though this story is not precisely Lovecraftian if you are a true fan you can see the influence he had on Del Toro’s style and story creation. The lighting and use of color in this film are just as impactful and the set design wraps up all these things into a perfect little package. The effects artist both special and visual shined up that pretty little package and delivered a super cool leading man that looked as if he fit in the scene whether digital, practical or a combination of both.

“Shape of Water” is a must-see for even those who are not into monster movies or sci-fi…

The awards people have finally got it right by shining the light on this epic film. If you have not seen it go and if you have it never hurts to see a great film a second and even a third time. Space Mom, Rezz, is my #1 act of 2017

Billboard recently dubbed Dance’s Breakout Artist of 2017 to REZZ, and I couldn’t agree more. I had the pleasure and opportunity to cover her Mass Manipulation World Tour this Saturday at the Playstation Theater in Time Square, New York City, New York, USA, North America, Planet Earth. It didn’t feel like planet earth; however, as I was sonically and visually transported to another dimension in time and space. Below is my Rezz discovery story, my transformation into a Rezzbian, my review of the events that took place last Saturday at Playstation Theater, and photos I took from her unforgettable performance.

In 2017, I’ve seen Rezz 4 times: Bonnaroo, Electric Zoo, Lost Lands, and last Saturday in New York City. I’d never heard of Rezz before Bonnaroo. I had a slew of friends adamantly tell me I should go see Rezz at Roo (Bonnaroo’s nickname) because “she’s incredible.” I typically know which friends to trust musically at this point, and these emphatic murmurs were coming from trusted sources.

I was blown away by the downtempo, experimental-bass music that was coming at around 100 BPMs (Beats Per Minute) or lower. I’d classify it as beautiful, trippy bass music from space for the masses. When I was younger, I loved dubstep; however, at the ripe age of 27, the 140 BPM intense energy drops can exhaust me. Rezz’ music kept those industrial sounds at a lower tempo, giving me the tonality and texture I always loved from dubstep at a lower speed and energy I could get behind.

I loved dubstep, also, because of how creative and crazy I could get with my whomping or headbanging as most would call it. I always called it whomping because that’s what dubstep sounds like. If you don’t know what whomping is, check the video below of a mom whomping. You can really get creative with it. It’s kind of like dancing to heavy metal with A LOT more moves. With Rezz’ music, I was still able to WHOMP, combining my two favorite elements of dubstep with the unavoidable passage of time. This is WHY I loved her music the first time my ears laid ground to the frequencies she was combining and arranging.

After Bonnaroo, I was hooked. When I got home, I read about her and listened to all her music. Standard operating procedure when you’re blown away. I found out she really blew up on deadmau5’s mau5trap label and was found early on by Skrillex. She released her first two EPs in 2016: The Silence is Deafening and Something Wrong Here (both released on mau5trap), and peaked at #19 on the Billboard Dance Charts late in 2016.

When I saw her at Electric Zoo, I spent the most time with my camera in my backpack dancing alone to her set. I couldn’t have been happier. This was her debut show on her Mass Manipulation World Tour.

I wanted to see her on the biggest stage with more lights and her accompanying visuals around her. Another aspect of Rezz’ show that is out of this world is her visual performance. There is an essence of hypnosis in the majority of her visuals; a perfect compliment to her sound. There is typically a lot of red and black spirals of different patterns that put listeners into a visual trance. Occasionally during her sets, there will be other Rezz animations there to mass manipulate. The more Rezz’ the merrier in my opinion.

Aside from the apparent tone of the above tweet, Rezz was still one of my favorite sets at Ezoo. I ended up buying her Snek T as my only merch purchase at Ezoo. Rezz’ merch was so popular, they only had one small left. I still wanted it, so I bought it and gave it to my girlfriend.

It glows in the dark, which is pretty cool if ya ask me.

Lost Lands was more like it. It was another stop on her Mass Manipulation World Tour. Rezz did her THANG at a New York City festival; however, it’s like when you see a HUGE Great Dane in New York City. You think to yourself, “Dam, that dog is really limiting their potential in such a small area. I need to see it run free in a huge field.” Lost Lands gave me just that. The sound and visuals were everything I dreamed of, and she was in a prime-time slot. She started her set with her hit single, Relax, which provided the calming, hypnotic, spacey, weird, and exciting vibe that would carry through her entire set. I took the video below.

Rezzbians yelling, “SPACE MOM!” were out in full force. I felt weirdly at home in the middle of Ohio that night, finding so many people who were just as obsessed with Rezz as I was. After Lost Lands, I found out there’s a Facebook group called The Cult of Rezz, which I joined immediately after gaining that knowledge. I was enamored by the creative collaboration by the Rezz fans (or Rezzbians) participating in the group chat. There is a sense of respect and compassion in the group that’s been passed down by the group’s mother, Rezz. Click HERE to check the group out on Facebook.

After seeing her crush three festival stages, I was eager to catch her at a venue. I saw she was playing at Playstation Theater in my hometown of New York City, and thankfully rBeatzRadio has done enough to be able to get me access to such amazing shows.

I wrote a preview for the event, which you can read by clicking HERE, and I joined the Facebook event Cult Meet Up @ Playstation Theater to interact with my fellow Rezzbians before and at the show. In the preview, I revered Rezz’ storytelling techniques. Music is storytelling, and it takes another level of skill to do it so well with just sounds. A lot of her music doesn’t have lyrics.

I packed up my camera, and headed off to my 3rd iteration of Rezz’ Mass Manipulation World Tour. I headed straight to the bar when I got it, that’s where I saw Playstation Theater was serving a special Rezz drink. I didn’t get it because I like beer. I wondered, though, if this was her idea or not.

Mad Zach was one of Rezz’ openers. I thought he was a perfect warmup to Rezz’ more intense, higher-energy vibe. He loves experimenting with sounds, just like Rezz.

I interviewed Mad Zach earlier this year for the release of his EP, Fortress. I was impressed with his acute interest in sound design and experimentation. He’s also been taken interest by Ableton and Native Instruments, helping these music tech companies create unique sample packs that other producers can use in their music. Rezz agreed because, duh, she PICKED HIM, and she’s super involved with her fanbase. She makes it a point to really be there for her fans when she can, regularly replying back when you catch her attention. This is another aspect that makes Rezz great, and another reason that she was named Dance’s Breakout Artist of 2017 by Billboard. Rezz has truly built up an organic, engaged audience through the last couple of years. These fans are also super devoted to her cause because she’s there for them.

She started off with, Relax, which is such a good song to start with. As I said above, it sets the tone for the rest of the night, letting listeners know to throw all their anxieties away because this isn’t a scary bass performance, this is REZZ.

She eventually delved into an evil edit of Porter Robinson & Madeon’s Shelter, which is a favorite of mine because that vocal chop melody is super catchy and comforting, then the script is flipped, adding power and grit creating a stark contrast. The bass was so heavy, as you can see from the video taken below, thanks to Playstation Theater’s in-house sound system powered by JBL.

Rezz relies a lot on sub-bass in her song compositions. According to Google, sub-bass is “low-register pitched pitches approximately below 60 Hz and extending downward to include the lowest frequency humans can hear, assumed at about 20 Hz. In this range, human hearing is not very sensitive, so sounds in this range tend to be felt more than heard.” Therefore, her music is very much FELT. This also explains the movement of the phone, as it’s unable to hold still from the heavy sub-bass.

After the evil edit of Shelter, you can hear her going into probably her 2nd most popular song off Mass Manipulation, DRUGS! She obviously played most songs from the album since that’s what the tour was about!

  One of my favorite drops was when she played Rage Against the Machine – Killing In The Name (Just A Tune Flip), bringing that heavy metal/ punk rock feel to a modern day electronic setting.  Bringing back those old-school rock style vibes into a bass music setting is a fantastic way to change it up during sets. The nostalgia factor kicks in, where everyone in the audience remembers that old song, and goes crazy to its modern day spin. I loved this song, so I posted the Soundcloud embed below.

From time to times, Rezz would slow it down and play some noticeable vocals. At one point, playing her song with Laura Brehm, Melancholy from her Billboard chart topping Something Wrong Here EP. Rezz’ melodies are quite noticeable, creating a sense of uncertainty and anxiety. A lot of her songs don’t have lyrics; however, the storytelling in her songa speak to a contrast between confusion and power.

This drop also had my head spinning. Since Rezz has such a sinister vibe to her show, I decided to put this old-timey black and white filter over the video. I’m not sure what the song is and have been trying to find it ever since! Someone help ID!

Towards the end of her set, she played her new single with Isqa, Psycho.

Overall, Rezz has been my favorite artist to go see in 2017. She’s not only my current favorite up-and-coming artist. She is my #1 favorite artists at the moment for everything I described above.
