so in the Shape of Water, Eliza has a dream sequence dancing with the fish god while singing "You'll Never Know":

Except the set is not a reference to that song, which debuted in 1943's "Hello, Frisco, Hello" being sung on a telephone

it's a reference to the set from "Let's Face The Music and Dance," a dance number by Astaire and Rogers in Follow the Fleet:

which has some interesting lyrics vis a vis this particular couple:

I don't know if that was intentional on GDT's part, but given the care of his classic movie references in some other films...I'm suspicious that it might be
