There is always gonna be another mountain! - - I encountered a lot of mountains on my trip, both literally and figuratively. You can't see it all?! 😧 - - Rushing around like my pants were on fire to see everything was not my idea of a good time. There is so much to see in Athens and with just a few days I quickly realized something! - - You can't see it all! That's right I said it! As disappointing as that sounds it's a lesson I learned and gave passed on as I continued my journey. Sure you can pack you itinerary having ever second planned out, but how much do you think you'll remember or enjoy. It's tempting to do it! After all you have dreamed of these places all your life, right!? But if you rush around checking off boxes you won't see anything. It will all become a blur and all you will have is a crap ton if pictures you don't remember taking. I gotta climb that mountain! 😊 - - I saw the Acropolis in all kinds of angles. Close up, far away, from the bottom, from the top. Every possible angle you can think of and every single time I was awe struck. This view though spoke to me on a whole different level. - - When I saw this picture the beauty and majestic history of where I was didn't hit me first. So what did? That this is how I saw my dreams. Something that was pretty to look at but so far away I never thought I would make it. I think that a lot of people probably feel that way. That their dreams are just out if reach, that it's just to hard and there are just too many obstacles for that dream to come true. After all they are dreams, we eventually will wake up right!? That's how I thought until I opened up my mind and dared to believe my dream was attainable. Sure it was going to be hard and I was definitely going to struggle but once I climbed that mountain and saw the view it would all be worth it. It's all in your mind and so I simply said to myself every morning that I looked up and saw that mountain, that's my dream let's go climb it today. Finding quiet amongst the crowds is nice! - - You know when you start your trip in Athens that you will have to fight off the masses of humanity. Even if you try to go off season it is still one of the most visited places on 🌎. But finding a little quite to take it all in was a surprise and a welcome respite. - - I definitely think this is something that can translate to your daily life. Making sure you have nice quiet place to reflect and refresh away from everything can be great for your mental health. So many 🌸🌺🌻🌹🌷🌼💐! - - I never knew I had such a love for nature photography until I headed out to explore Europe. All you have to do is swipe through my feed and you will see what I mean. Not too many selfies, right? That's because there is so much beauty to see you don't need this mug (it's a nice mug though) getting in the way. This made me think about the infatuation with taking pics of ourselves. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) - - In this day and age it seems to be all sabout the selfie and needing that thumbs up or like and I think that it may be causing some issues. Mentally! Emotionally! And globally! If we are focused and concerned with what we look like are we missing out on the beauty surrounding us? Are we missing cues from friends and family that somethings wrong? Are we oblivious to the state of affairs in the world? It is just something that being out in the world made me wonder. Once again I am not saying selfies are bad! What I am saying is as a human race maybe we are to concerned with the I when we should be concerned with the we. The first step is always the hardest! - - Another shot from the ancient agora. It seems like my camera finger was a little itchy at this sight. Really it was just so beautiful that I couldn't stop taking pic after pic. But when I got to these steps I was like more steps. I had just climbed to the top of the Acropolis the day before and that damn near killed me, but I pushed through the pain and I'm glad I did. - - This got me to thinking how the first step is always the hardest. That goes from jumping into exercise routines to making life changing decisions alike. The hardest thing for me was pushing the button to buy my tickets. What if's ran through my head like Usain Bolt. And my fingers hovered over the complete purchase button for what seemed an eternity. But I knew I had to do it and I knew once I did there was no going back. So I took a deep breath, closed my eyes and clicked. Knowledge is power! 📚 - - We sit in history class and learn the main "important" things that the school system thinks we need to know. It ain't even half of it. As I walked through Hadrian's Library I thought of all the knowledge lost or forgotten or pushed aside and I got a little sad. The knowledge I gained on this trip was awesome and eye opening. - - You learn what they want you to! But when you travel you get to learn the other side of the history coin and things that didn't seem important to the people making the curriculum. I think that's sad and what I learned was that the more you understand a country and a peoples history the easier it is to overcome stereotypes and fears. So maybe an answer to all the hate is education! Location! Location! Location! 😁 - - My first stop and this was the view from my hostels roof. I was stoked to climb those stairs (elevators are not my friend) and sit at the roof top bar with a drink, a few new friends and this to look at. As I stared out at the Acropolis lit up for all to see I realized it really is all about location. Not only physically, but mentally too. (PS when you are traveling try to find a good centrally located hotel or hostel, so you have views like this and you can lessen your transportation costs 😁) - - Physical location is definitely important after all if your not where you should be things may pass you by. But I think mental location is vastly more important. If I had not been in the right mental space no matter how glorious my adventure was I would not have been open to learning and growing. If I had not been in the right mental space I would not have even been on my adventure. So taking some time to find your perfect mental location is key for any development. For me that meant being super honest with myself about my roadblocks, taking time to meditate and rerouting my thought process to allow for better mental clarity. Then I was ready! Whatever you do don't go into the cave alone! 😱 - - Fears! We all have then, we all well fear fear itself. Venturing out into the world alone with no job was one of mine. It kept me frozen afraid to change my life even though I was miserable. And it kept me there for over two decades! But once I kicked fears ass I learned something. - - It is healthy to have fear after all there is a lot in this world to be afraid of. But if you stand paralyzed before whatever that fear is you will end up missing out! Simple as that! Our brains fear things they are unfamiliar with or that we don't understand. Unfamiliar with? Don't understand? That sounds like a job for some education, in fact that is the way to overcome a lot of fears. So when I was afraid to quit my job and travel, I simply learned my fear away. Sure I was still nervous. I mean come on I was rambling through Europe with no job, no home to come back to, all my worldly possession on my back and unable to speak many of the languages I was going to encounter. So sure I was a wee bit nervous, but if I had let my fear win I would never have these memories and realizations to share with you. Is it always under construction? 🤔 - - So as I wonder around Europe I noticed a lot of things, but the constant renovation of pretty much everything stuck out. It made questions float around in my noggin. Questions like, how do people get Instagram pics with no scaffolding? Dud I come during a renovation year?! And the deep one aren't we all always under renovation? - - Some of those questions I still have, but sitting on that marble stone looking up at the hard work that goes into making these amazing monuments last the last one was answered. We are these monuments, each and everyone of us. We are things of beauty and wonder, but if we don't renovate every now and then we seem to fall into disrepair. That was what I was doing in Europe! I had fallen in to disrepair...unhappy with my career, disappointed with where my life was, and most of all unhealthy! It took me a while to reach the enevutable conclusion that something had to change. So I threw up some scaffolding and began the long hard task of getting my 💩💩💩 together (a.k.a renovation). I think we all need a little fixin' every now because life throws us curve balls or we are to afraid to go after what we want and hat can cause or beauty and lustre to deteriorate. So making some time for spiritual, mental, and physical maintenance is a must. Have you ever had to through up some scaffolding? Do you smell those flowers?🌹 - - Platitudes like taking time to smell the roses used to seem like a waste of my time. I mean who has time for that craziness! I have to much to do, to much to conquer! But, there is a reason why these sayings became ingrained in our collective society. - - That is one if the biggest takeaways that I learned. Stopping to smell the roses doesn't mean stop dead in your tracks and forget your purpose. On the contrary it means take time to enjoy your life and everything that entails. I used to be so oblivious to the little things rushing around chasing success. But you know what the minute I slowed down I noticed so much more about the world and the people in it and that has enriched my life so much more than that fad wad of cash. Expectations can be a crutch! - - So your going to one of those bucket list locations and you are all excited to see x, y and z! That's how I was with Acropolis and in the end it wasn't my favorite site! - - I know crazy right and don't get me wrong it was stunning (and just a bit slippery so wear shoes with good grip...😂😂😂). But my favorite site I saw was the Ancient Agora and why did I go? Was it on my list? Nope! I went because it was included in the Acropolis ticket. I may have never seen this beautiful site if it hadn't. So the lesson I learned from this. Planning is good but if you only see the sites that are on that plan you may be missing out on a lot of really cool stuff. - - This translates to life too I think! We all need a basic plan, but if we choose to live our life never able to step out of that plan opportunities and blessings may pass us by.
