Creative writing taps into the right side of the brain, where all the imagination and artistic stuff happens. But when we're stressed, scared, or overwhelmed with too much information, it can get in the way and make it harder for our brains to be as creative and productive as they should be.

Creativity ebbs and flows like the tide, influenced by many factors. Unlike AI, the writing in my fic comes from me—a human—so my experiences and emotions naturally seep into it. This gives it authenticity, but it also means that during tough times in my life, it can be harder to produce.

Hello, my name is NattiKay, and welcome to my blog! Before you follow, there’s a thing you should know about how I do fandom.

Basically, it can take one of two forms. The first is casual fandoms—this includes various media I enjoy and will like/reblog posts about, maybe even doodle for on rare occasions. I can have several of these simultaneously.

But the second—and much more visible—is a “main” fandom, which you can also call hyperfixation or special interest if you wish. I only have one of these at a time, it lasts for years, and it pretty much takes over my life and blog during that time. Once every few years or so my brain will latch on to a new “main” fandom—I don’t know what triggers it to switch, and I have zero control over when it happens or to what.

My current special-interest fandom is Avatar (James Cameron/blue people), with a bonus mini-fixation on the Na'vi language. My favorite characters are the Sully family and much of my art focuses on them right now.

I make this distinction to say that if you recently found this blog through fanart of one of these previous fixations and followed hoping for more, I’m sorry to say you’re going to be disappointed.

When my fixation switches, I loose interest in actively creating content for the previous fandom because all my energy gets dedicated to the new one. This does not at all mean that I no longer like the previous ones—I may still reblog posts about them here and there—just that I no longer have the inspiration to be producing a bunch of art/comics/etc for them the way I used to. They’ve essentially moved from main fandom to casual fandoms. Yes, this will happen one day for my current fixation too, though I have no way of predicting when.

I will not be offended if you follow me during one fixation and then unfollow when it switches. I will also not be offended if you recently found this blog through my old content from previous fandoms and then choose not to follow because of this post: like I said, if you follow hoping for new art from those, you’re gonna be let down 😅

i am ROARING because Ava on drums would be incredible - exactly for getting all the energy out and there's something therapeutic about drums, both the act of just hitting something but also learning how to control and channel that energy, not to mention being able to listen to the empty space in order to keep time and to trust the rest of the band and have them trust her in turn - it's delicious, that is brilliant omg such a need for this now (i think i read a fic with drummer!Ava but honestly we need more. ohno. what have you done what have you done)

i can also see Beatrice going one of those explainer videos - maybe like those Wired "explain in 5 levels of difficulty" and every single one of the guests just falls in love with Beatrice, especially the 5th level who just completely nerds out along with her lololol

I kinda hopped into the dc fandom by reading fics (I know I know lmao)

But as I've read more comics and looked into different characterization and analysis I now have a more developed idea as to how I view a lot of the characters and have preferences to how their written. I'm def the type to click out a fic if I find myself thinking 'he would not fucking say that'

Anyway this is just to say it's very funny to me when I go thru some of the fics I bookmarked at the begining of my interest and find myself going Uh Oh! I don't think I can read this anymore!

oooh okay so i know this one is going to get out of hand but i will try to keep it from getting so terribly unwieldy.

as for practical advice:

if you don't have any ideas but still want to write, check out the kinkmeme for ideas! (no rpf on there, but still a bunch for all manner of pairings)

curating your online space is super important. check out the tags, maybe even follow a couple of general interest things you like, but on tumblr especially it's so important to curate who you follow to create the ideal experience for yourself. take some time scrolling through blogs and finding a place where you'll feel fulfilled and inspired fandom and writing wise. it's soooo worth the effort.

as for more abstract advice:

genuinely just have fun!!! don't shy away from interacting with other blogs, making new friends, discussing headcanons, etc. whatever having fun in a fandom space means for you.

for me specifically it has been huge to talk about my writing on my blog rather than just shyly posting on my ao3. in particular the iwtv fandom (or at least everyone i've interacted with) is SO incredibly friendly and encouraging and supportive and i think it helps both the writer and the audience when you like. idk go through the writing process together? everybody has fun. it feels scary and intimidating but it feels so good esp in this community. and definitely the kind of thing where engagement grows over time.

Well, it looks like I've caved and started with the Korean TLs of the i7 story from 6.10. It's (pretty) slow progress, but I'm managing more or less okay. The question I have to the fandom is....while I'm not confident enough in Korean (like at all) to give direct TLs from that, nor do I want to since the translator has password protected their TLs (and I don't feel comfortable doing translations from a translation, anyway), I wouldn't mind giving summaries of each section after I finish it if people want it
