Somewhat detailed sypnosis of Fate/school life, the 4-koma spinoff of Fate/stay night following the regular lives of the Homurahara students, specifically the track team trio. A manga that has never been translated into English, and so is largely unknown in the English fandom. This would largely not be a problem, except Fate/strange Fake is set in its continuity, or close enough, which makes its allusions to it and important plot points derived from it incredibly confusing.
Not my work, this sypnosis was exclusively typed up by Comun (@kaibutsushidousha here) on Beast Lair:
Ok, I have time now. Here's what the general deal with HimuTen is. Himuro no Tenchi is a yonkoma manga starring the normal girls of the track trio + Mitsuzuri, and the much less normal Sajou Ayaka from Fate/Prototype. As the "Fate/school life" subtitle implies, it's wholly slice-of-life, featuring its cast involved in everyday situations, the many original games they play, and supernatural shenanigans that they don't realize are supernatural thanks to Rin or Ayaka cleaning things up neatly.
Publication started in 2006 covering a story set 9 months before the Grail War, but then during its 2015-2017 run, it covered the Grail War from the perspective of people who didn't know the Grail War happening, and is currently set after the Grail War.
In terms of timeline, the main point of divergence that defines HimuTen is Kotomine's handling of Tokiomi's property. Like in the Fsn timeline, after the 4th Grail War, Kotomine was in charge of Tokiomi's finances until Rin grew up, but he made categorically stupid decisions on what to sell and what to keep, and his disastrous management was the cause of Rin's current money problems. But in HimuTen's timeline, while the outcome of Kotomine's poor management was still the same, what specifically he chose to sell was different. This results in two major consequences that separate HimuTen from Fate/stay night:
1)A lot of Tokiomi's less practically useful artifacts and Mystic Codes were sold to Makidera's father's antique shop, which often results in Makidera and her friends being involved in strange phenomena that Rin needs to take responsibility for.
2) A plot of land directly above Fuyuki's best leyline was sold to Sajou Hiroki, causing him to move with his two daughters to move to Fuyuki in 1994. By 2003-2004, Manaka already moved away from her father's house, and Hiroki himself never appears because he's always out of Fuyuki either meeting up with his mage buddy from Tokyo or dealing with Manaka situations, but Ayaka is a main character in this story, so that obviously has many ramifications.
Also, Ayaka's and Manaka's characters in HimuTen are pretty different from their Prototype counterparts. Fake Ayaka is about as much of a self-hating introvert with no self-esteem as Proto Ayaka, but she didn't get from the real Ayaka of this timeline.
The younger Manaka still had the same propensity to set the world on fire for her Prince Charming, but direct quote: "Her excessive omnipotence caused [REDACTED] to [REDACTED] because it was [REDACTED], thus [REDACTED] went completely off-rails, resulting in the collapse of her most confident plan. Catastrophic shipwreck. She learned that picture books are pictures books are for a reason. The Prince Charming of her dreams wasn't real. Disheartened, she [REDACTED]. [REDACTED]. She turned harmless."
Meanwhile, since Manaka never found her ideal hot man, this Ayaka has none of her Grail War trauma. Instead, she had the experience of witnessing depression turn her highly competent sister into an unproductive failure of a human being, and built an actual self-esteem from training in Fuyuki's best leyline, so she internalized that she needed to be the responsible sister.
And, relevantly to /strange Fake, Ayaka also left Fuyuki in the July-August 2003 period for a student experience in the Clock Tower. Waver naturally got interested in a new student with the same last name as Manaka, so they met and she was a temporary student in his class, where she also got to realize her Formalcraft talents from Proto and was advised to specialize in plants since she was so opposed to sacrificing animals.
The last major thing to talk about is the Grail War arc, although I think this was already discussed in the thread when FsF being a HimuTen sequel first came up. Due to the premise of the manga, we don't see anything of the Grail War actually happen, but from its consequences to the people around the track trio (Kuzuki's disappearance, Mitsuzuri's assault and hospitalization, Zouken's death, the Ryuudou family needing to move to the Semina Apartments after the collapse of the cavern under their temple, Medusa's post-war presence, Shirou's survival and relationship status with Sakura, etc.), it's completely that HimuTen follows Heaven's Feel Good End except for the minor divergences caused by Ayaka's presence. And those are only two:
1) During the weeks of the Grail War, Ayaka was teaming up with Ciel (yes, Ciel was there, but she isn't a character in HimuTen, she's just an incognito figure you find, exclusively during the Grail War chapters, talking to Ayaka in the background, appearing on the corners of pages, group shots, etc. and what is up with her cameos is only revealed in profiles outside of the story proper) to kept outside scavengers from interfering with the Grail War. Mashin's official statement is that together the thwarted 9 out of 10 invaders, and the 10th one that slipped past them would have consequences later in the United States. (This seriously implies that the Fsn timeline had a bigger number of scavengers profiting from the Grail War, which certainly will come up in some spin-off, probably the El-Melloi series)
2) Shinji lost a bet to Ayaka during that week, so he had to wear a magical wig that copied his hair, but slightly off-center, making people think he was wearing a wig all along. This protected his head from Sakura's attack, so in this timeline, Shinji was only injured rather than killed.
I suppose I could also talk about Tsunokuma since he cameoed here and how the reveal that the real Ayaka is currently studying in Romania is an extension of Manaka's and Celenike's relationship in HimuTen, but I'll stick to the Ayaka parts to keep this post as short as it can be.

ACCURATE
A nice meme I made a while ago in conjunction with an idea that throat punched me a few weeks ago.
This was before I had the idea to draw Koha-Ace Mehmed.

This is basically what the Ottomans were doing at the time, honestly. But instead of pieces it was any potential neighbors who could aid you in not getting mauled by the particularly scary youngster with the big cannons.

The most insane Type-Moon deep lore:
>Sega merged with Bandai in the late 90s/early 00s >Sega-Bandai bought out Nintendo >Sega-Bandai-Nintendo dominated the industry, Microsoft surrendered before the Xbox even released and worked alongside them, giving them the Xbox's specs >Combining the Xbox and Dreamcast, Sega-Bandai-Nintendo released the Dreamcast 2 >The Dreamcast 3, codenamed "360", is now (as of 2004/5) on its way
This is real (in Fate/School Life).

Your Marika and family art is some of my favorite stuff to see on my dash; I'm curious what your take on Maliketh is! I don't think I've seen any of your pieces feature him (:
(i have drawn Maliketh before, but it's pre-DLC so it's mostly just fluff fanart haha)
i had a pretty harsh reading on how Maliketh and Marika's relationship could be at first and tbh i still think so now. but when i think about how her betrayal to Maliketh in the end could be her trying to help Godwyn gain a second life as Lord of TWLiD (burying Godwyn right at the Erdtree root, still leaving him there even when he started spreading Deathroot around, guidance of grace waking Fia up, the Death Knights in LoS), trying to accept Death now that it's sth that could give her Godwyn back (and thus Maliketh was feeling guilty and teaming up with Radagon's GO hunters for... nothing), it opens up to more possibilities i guess? that it's not always tense and her betrayal in the end is not only out of pure grievance towards him specifically?
i could see that at one point the closed off and always on edge Marika, fresh off heartbreak and ascension, would slowly open up to Maliketh and start to rely on him more (while still aware of the sleeper agent the Two Fingers has in him or sth).
& i do think Messmer grew up with Godfrey & Maliketh in the picture, his armor plates and colour palette of black and gold mirror Maliketh after all. so they probably were a dysfunctionally normal family once.
i just need to find a way to put him in some art 😂

Honestly, Shirano is very much the biggest question in regards to a Fate protagonist that Type-Moon and Nasu has yet to answer. Up until recently I always figured "Okay they are younger than they should be and have a different name but they are very much still meant to be the Hakunos living selves so they have to be mages, meaning Hakuno's ability to see enemies attacks are just something they can do as mages." But then on a recent run through of their profile, I noticed something. Rin and Adashino were looking into Shirano because they suspected him of being a mage. Only they found out he wasn't a mage but a psychic (think Ryogi Shiki and Fujino Asagami from FGO/Garden of Sinners).
Shirano isn't a mage, they are a psychic. Which just raises the question of what happened to Shirano and the girl who very much is female Hakuno's stand in that results in them not being mages. Because Extraverse Living Hakuno and Hakunon have to be mages.
Sure one could say they're NPCs therefore their magic abilites are just built in but according to Extella's materials in regards to Solo Servants "An NPC or Al can become a Master so long as they have an independent thought routine, a properly designed soul, and enough magical ability, but a Servant performs best when paired with a human who has a body made of pseudo-spiritrons." The 3rd requirement "Magical ability" i.e. likely a recreation of someone who has magic circuits. And even if someone does meet all the requirements, a servant is still at their best when they are paired with someone who is a proper human.
Which in of itself kind of begets the question of if Humanity is still consider the dominate species in the world of Extra because Leo was regarded as the king of the world and the the most powerful master in the war, to the point that even if Rin and Rani teamed up they still wouldn't have a good chance against Leo, yet Hakuno was able to defeat him and Hakuno is an NPC, not a human. But that is a discussion for another day. In short, Shirano and the Female Hakuno stand in are very much questions Nasu needs to answer because they're existances are very much different to Extraverse's Hakuno and Hakunon's existences.
What are you Shirano

yknow what…..im thinking about it. (american) gen z grew up surrounded by talk of climate change and actual school shootings where peers and friends literally die at age 11 and that was just like our norm. the economy is shit so we cant buy houses and can barely afford food, our schools were a war zone, and our planet is dying. that was our youth, death at every turn. a lot of gen z (i think i can go global here, not just america) will tell you like “yeah i didn’t ever see myself living past fifteen much less eighteen. i thought i’d be dead by now” and so now we have like no idea wtf we’re doing and we’re just trying to make the best out of our shitty lives.
anyways merlin also kinda grew up like that as in his very existence was a death sentence and if the wrong person found out he’d be dead. growing up hearing from your mother that you cant tell anyone the truth bc what you are, how you were born, is wrong in this world and that many people would cheer to see you die….yeah what if he had the same thought process and was like “yeah fuck guess my death is inevitable” and just stopped giving a fuck. he’s confrontational and picks fights without regard for his opponents strength or numbers bc hey if he goes out this way then at least he was doing something good and standing up for what he believed in, if he doesn’t die then cool he made a difference. that’s why he goes toe to toe with arthur even after finding out he’s the prince of the most powerful kingdom in albion that started the whole campaign calling for his head.
just merlin being kind of like a medieval gen z lmao like taking no shit and taking all these risks bc hey he never thought he’d make it to twenty so wtf else is he meant to do?? live a life of paranoia and wariness? no. he’s gonna die in the end no matter what, if it happens sooner rather than later….well…he never thought he’d make it this far so he did better than he originally expected. this is why he gets on with gwaine so well bc they both have like passive suicidal tendencies where they take all these risks and make all these choices that put their lives at risk bc they don’t particularly care one way or the other how it turns out. real recognizes real.

Black Souls can now be added to the pile amongst Nyarko-san, Demonbane, The Elder Sister-like One, Magic School Lussid, Ow My Sanity, and maybe Fate? For turning Lovecraftian Gods into Cute Anime Girls.
Cthulhu (and a couple of his kids), Nyarlathotep, Shub, Yog-Sothoth, Cthugha, Ithaqua, Atlach-Nacha, Nodens and at least one Shoggoth all got hit by the Magical Girl Beam (some multiple times, looking at YOU, Nyarl)
Even Hastur, the King in Yellow, and Yig, the Father of Serpents are here by technicality as shota femboys. And a catboy too, in Hastur’s case.
You cannot make this shit up.

What Occasionally Happens at Karaoke Night
A 4-koma and an update.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tried drawing a 4-koma and it’s not too shabby for my first one! It was inspired by @sawbeaver ‘s piece “Endless Love Song.” Their art is absolutely amazing, truly eye candy!
I found the image of Constantinople from Europeana and the rest was drawn by yours truly. Oh, and the stranger in the first panel is a self-insert since I couldn’t come up with a person who could fill the spot.
Oh, and under the read more will be a more definitive update to the ‘big thing’ I’ve been working on…so do look there if you’d like!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Almost at 10k! I wasn’t expecting to have written this much, but I’m pretty happy with it so far! I’d like to think that I’m ‘cooking’ as the youth say and I’m basically halfway through writing the full thing, so I just need to keep moving along with my draft and I’ll be set to post it. So do look forward to seeing it soon! Until then, take this tribute! See you later.
