When ChatGPT first blew up I was in a meeting about how this would effect my industry. I said "doesn't matter, it's a flash in the pan, the whole market is a bubble (cause it was obvious even then that it was a bubble) and there isn't a practical use for half of these products" and I got called an idiot. But I'm right. No one has produced a real use for things yes, other than the minor cases suggested above, and even then, is it really worth the computational power and energy consumption and water that it takes to run these things to make something like a better facial recognition (a tool mainly used by the state for carceral purposes) or better auto-correct? I don't think so personally.

The bubble is going to burst, just like it burst on crypto. But what worries me is the damage that will be done before the bubble bursts. AI will not replace you or your job, but your boss will stop listing your job and instead hire, at a lower wage, someone to fix the bad outputs the AI is producing. He might even pull a sort of magic trick where he says your position is being eliminated, but offer you that shittier position correcting the AI and it stumbles around "doing your job".

In the time before the bubble bursts AI will fill the internet with useless swill. AI generated images instead of real ones in search results, AI articles that contain nonsense at best and dangerous disinformation at worst. In the time before the bubble bursts the internet may ve sk utterly clogged with machine generated drek that it is simply no longer useful.

In the time that it takes that bubble to burst students will become used to using AI to do their school work for them, losing out on valuable practice in basic skills like writing and research. It doesn't matter if that's cheating, many teachers are being told to just put up with it, or even to explicitly allow AI generated work be turned in. Underfunded and overworked teachers are even now being told to essentially give the fuck up on anything like academic rigor at almost every level of the education system (from what I've seen it's the worst at the college level but I've seen it in primary and secondary education as well). We are gonna lose a generation of kids to this swill.

In the time it takes for this bubble to burst AI will be used to diminish the dignity of workers across the world, make them accessories to a machine that their boss claims does the "real work" and deflate wages and benefits. This tactics will be used to bust unions, casualize work, and make everything just a bit more shit. AI will be used to systematically destroy institutional knowledge in innumerable industries because it represents a new way to attack every executive's worst foe: his own employees. They won't abolish payroll but they will gut it. And in the long run it will probably just kill their company. Because the bubble will burst, it will cease to be possible to sustain these unsustainable systems. The weight of what is lost will pull them down when the tools stop working or continually degrade into mush. No one will have the skills or information necessary to save them. We will witness a genuine hollowing out of our culture and capacity to function on a societal level just to enrich the ruling class.

What happens after that? Well the monied folks are basically already betting on a climate Apocalypse that will land us all in Mad Max world and are building fortified palaces for those contingencies. A lot of them are angling to obliterate the fig leaf of democracy and civil rights we have in the western world and replace it with literally just feudalism. It won't matter when the collapse happens cause they'll still be rich and on top.

I dont think they're right. I dont think the world is going to devolve into the thing they imagine it will because all of these guys are morons, like actually drooling idiots when you listen to them talk about the world. But it could be bad. It could mean a descent into Fascism. It already seems to be heading that way given the complicity of the entire western world in the genocide in Gaza.

So we have to fight. We have to resist this. Like, I get they’re immediately racist to all HiveWings, but you can teach them to cut that out while still having consequences for the majority of the HiveWings that either directly participated in or allowed slavery because they benefit off of it, which the series doesn’t. Or wait until after they can stop fearing for their lives every day. And Sundew’s racism towards SilkWings are hardly a footnote because it’s all about the HiveWings, like they’re the victims here.

I was reluctant to call this otherwise well-meaning woman a racist, but that video essay you recommended, revealing a legitimate clip of her confessing, humorously and without any sense of shame or regret, that she based most of the IceWings’ culture off of a fucking Asian stereotype, I felt horrified. That’s outright racist, whether she knows it’s a racist stereotype of Asian moms or not, aside from the she damn well SHOULD, she is a grown-ass woman with access to the internet. And the fact no one even showed any visible discomfort fustrared me. Too many people make excuses for this woman.

I’ve had enough, I’m pissed off, and it’s nice seeing I’m not the only one. I stg, without this blog, yourself, and the askers here, my mental health would be in shambles. Well, *scoff* obviously, Taka, what we have here is a situation where a lot of people are so easily swayed by media that they think everyone else is so easily swayed and, therefore, want to make sure that every media that is the slightest bit challenging or disturbing or problematic is wiped clean and sanitized while they turn around and berate children's and young adult media that dare to say things like 'you can't just kill everyone who disagrees with you' and 'people respond more to kindness and neutrality than outright hostility' as 'promoting fascism' or 'teaching children that they need to just take abuse'.

When, in reality, any sane, functioning adult is able to curate their media experience.

Additionally, this is A) completely inaccurate about the relationships (the entire point, as we’ve been shown, in the case of Hermione is that she was actually happy she didn’t choose St Five Nights and ultimately and repeatedly rejected pursuing anything there....).

And in the case of Falice, they pursued a redo and it ultimately failed, as well (and I do ship Falice, buuutt)----and both times they couldn’t make it work for different reasons....plus, because Jug and Slizzy are very different people, the failure of BH in no way mirrored their parents AND was far moar toxic...

Again, those “parallels” don’t even apply at this point (and, frankly, that’s just fucking dummmm) and OFC you thought they were “the entire point”, because you’re a fucking moron....plus the show isn’t over, so there’s plenty of time...

And no, that was NOT the point of the reboot...or what even remotely happened in it. Including why everybody returned to the town...

Ragey stopped working for Hymen (and kinda dug it), he does enjoy working with Vermin and he enjoys the dealership. If anything, his renewed interest in stock brokerage shows this is his thing. And never applied to Marty at all.
