Here are my ao3 bookmarks, filtered by Newtina.

There’s a fair bit of excellent Tina & Newt fics on ao3. I recommend using the filters and “search within results” to find something that fits the bill! You can also sort by length, if you’re looking for a long one or a slow burn. Also, if you find a writer you like, checking their bookmarks is a great place to get more fic recs.

(You may already know all of that, but it can’t hurt to share again, I suppose.)

I additionally agree with @afrenchaugurey’s recommendation for “please, just be happy”. Augurey also writes some really lovely stuff.

Depending on what flavor of Tina/Newt you’re after and what kind of writing you like, I could recommend different fics or authors. (…..and yes, I’ve read nearly all of them on ao3 😅) I’m happy to make some more recommendations if you share more about what you like in a story ^_^

Summary: To say that Gellert had not expected to wake up on another day at the western front to the Statute of Secrecy finally blasted to smithereens was a bit of an understatement. It fell as silently as a night-time truce: nobody knew who had fired the first shot that brought down the entire thing. To the stench of antiseptics and laudanum was added the cloyingly sweet scent of pain relief potions; the highest dose available in France was handed out like Penicillin: worth its weight in gold. After the initial shock of that surreal day had faded, he’d been ecstatic, of course, eager to write a woefully short, passionate letter to Albus about the possibilities this unlocked in the late war-effort – and not a single letter returned to him from Britain. In spite of the Royal Mail Service, those utter madlads, in spite of every owl and pigeon he could find in bumfuck nowhere, France – silence. He would have to find Albus himself, once he finally got to go home, but amidst London that was torn to shreds and filled with the hungering, grieving masses, nobody wanted to talk about the day Albus Dumbledore disappeared. The day the Statute fell.

The earth of me

Summary:

Maybe it had been foolish, then, of Albus to think himself safe from surprises. The kind which rocked the very ground underneath his feet, that was, a sort of shock that travelled up and down his spine and shot adrenaline through his entire system. Safe from war, if not from politics, he had considered himself hidden from Death’s crows upon his doorstep. He wasn’t.

He had long known the five stages of grief to be thestral dung. On that particular afternoon in late January of 1931, he appeared to have shot right past denial into depression, or directly into acceptance, perhaps, if one took into account that he had always known that this had had to happen eventually.

Albus ruminates on the death of his father in Azkaban and what this means for himself. Canon missing moment I guess.

Remnants

Summary:

“You could have mentioned that this dragon hoards eggs.”

In the darkness, Gellert was a mere shade. The ragged rocks cut the howling wind apart into ribbons that slashed the air: high, haunting sounds dancing over the wet grass. No human lived up here, not anymore. The next village was miles and miles away. Albus felt the ground vibrate with the dragon’s steps inside the castle ruins that spanned an entire hilltop. The bare bones of a grand church stuck up into the grey sky that had lifted away the roof from its ribs long ago; of the keep, only the northern and the eastern wall still stood. Everything else was naked stone filed down by the weather littering the grasslands like teeth. Here the remains of a hall as big as a lord’s manor, there circles in the mud: watchtowers, or what was left of them. Bones were scattered in between those trampled histories. The earth only yielded bushes with berries on them that should not be touched by anything that wished to live, no fields survived here. It was so cold Albus could feel his jaws jittering.

“Theseus said nothing of it. I presume that he did not know, else he would have. He only stressed how very unwise it is to go near a nesting dragon.”

Prompt instead of the origina prompt that didn't work for me was three lines of conversation, link lost, unfortunately.

Canon divergence, could be seen as a cousin to my Constellations series in as much as Albus and Gellert live togther throughout their life as professors on Hogwarts.

The red grief

Summary: In 1625, King James I of England and Scotland died, leaving his lover George de Villiers, the Duke of Buckingham, behind. Historically, the Duke decided to sack Cadíz on the Spanish coast soon after. In another world, a pair of immortal husbands are none too pleased about being asked for magical help on what others would call a thinly veiled act of piracy intended to escalate political tensions into outright war. How to cope?

Summary:

Looking over your shoulder whenever I come close enough to touch, and there it always ends. As though I have been chasing and losing you for a very long time.”

Summary: The man at the counter had hair so light it was almost white, looking natural, not dyed, but who really knew; his t-shirt had three lines of ancient Greek on it that Albus only realized had to be the first line of the Iliad after staring at it for way too long, toned muscles – arms, hello, damn – and he was oozing confidence. Well, that was all of Albus’ boxes ticked, ta very much. Fuck.

“I’m sorry, I kind of couldn’t not listen – you’re Professor Albus Dumbledore, yes?”

Puzzled, he gave a brief nod.

“Indeed I am. I like your t-shirt.”

The man looked down at it like he’d forgotten he was wearing it, grinning a bit.

“Thanks. I read your last article that you published – what was it, a few months ago? – Anyway, the way you dissected the outdated communist pirate theory with such poise and elegance, that was beautiful.” Then he cleared his throat and straightened from his casual slouch against the counter which looked entirely like a nervous act. “Sorry, where are my manners? Name’s Gellert Grindelwald, I’m the new Ancient Greek History Doctorate researcher and teacher at King’s College.”

“Oh!” Well, Albus was fucked. That beautiful, clever man was going to be his new colleague.

Summary:

The different paths that their lives had taken so far had not merged upon accident: they’d worked to make it work. Once Aurelius was fully grown, theoretically, there was no reason why Gellert should still live with him then. The thought seized Albus' heart and held it captive.

“You must know that your continued support has been vital to me. I value you far, far beyond your excellent job as the tutor of my nephew.”

To his puzzlement, Gellert gave a breath of amusement that fast turned fond.

“I do believe that is British for ‘I love you.’”

“And if it is,” Albus responded, half question, half declaration.

“Gellert,” he breathed out the pearling laughter in his chest, light as air, “I can’t wait.” Then he turned around, and awkward as the angle was, they made it work for a lingering kiss. Gellert nudged his big nose into Albus’ cheekbone smirking like the cat that got the cream.

“Better?”

“Much. Thank you. I’d say sorry for having woken you up, but in truth…”

“Don’t be,” he grinned, “I’m not."

Summary:

“Gellert is blessed with foresight, wisdom, a cunning mind for strategy, and charms enough to have the whole court fall for him; he is a just and intelligent man and… I love him dearly. Anyone else but him would make no sense for me to marry.”

Percival gazed at him with something like trepidation in his watery eyes.

“He is powerful enough to match you, Albus. Having him so near you could be a dangerous decision… or the only wise thing to do.”

“He would never hurt me. Never,” Albus vowed with all the conviction of late-night conversations about spells that did not exist yet and the long-lost relics that haunted them both from the side-lines of their childhood fairy tales. The court might not know it yet, but Gellert was his, and he belonged to Gellert as firmly as any priest could profess; more so, they were made from the same stardust. It was the one thing that did not made him tremble these days, that knowledge.

“Very well,” sighed the dying king, and let go of his hands. “Get him for me, please.”

Summary:

Captured. The thrice damned teenagers had gotten themselves captured. Bowed over Albus’ tombstone as he was every morning and every for longer than he cared to actively recount, Gellert took the news from one of his many birds scouting the grand, wide world out there for him without moving from his spot. Though he wanted nothing more than to rest his forehead on the white marble painted golden by the sunset until he faded into the stone itself, slowly, painfully slowly, his folded hands detangled to settle on the cool surface instead.

“My heart, I must do something,” he rasped over the polished stone. His knees creaked and hurt as he forced them to move like rusted hinges. “To the snake pit I go, is that not the funniest thing you ever heard – this might finally be my last sunset, my love.”

Summary: Gellert comes back home to Camelot in the weeping rain to a row between Master Merlin and King Arthur. Nothing new there, though this time, a dragon is dead, the King is injured, and Gellert would simply like to squirrel away Albus from under Merlin's watchful eyes, thank you very much.

Prompt: That awesome line you simply can't find a plot for.

i've been lurking around the rosekiller tag for a long while and i see a lot of people asking for rosekiller-centric fic recs, so if anyone cares here's my hand-picked list of rosekiller fic recs. this includes a lot of the popular ones but also some less-popular and very underrated ones (i think). anyways hopefully i'm doing this right cuz i've never posted on here before soo pls be kind if i make a mistake abt something idk.

LONG FICS (or basically just more than 1 chapter fics)

why do stars fall down from the sky, every time that you walk by by ricecake_13 (E, 117k, 17/?) this is actually my favorite ongoing rosekiller fic ever oh my god, it's a modern high school au with lots of povs and ships though rosekiller is the main one. beautifully written, gorgeous plot/pacing, amazing characterization, incredibly underrated, please read this it's a masterpiece.

The Blood of Hyacinthus by writingamarie (M, 175k, 14/20) another one of my fav ongoing fics, it's a canon compliant rosekiller fic (ravenclaw barty my beloved!!!) starting from first year all throughout the war. this is probably the best portrayal of canon compliant rosekiller i've seen, they aren't portrayed as poor kids who got roped into the war, they made their own decisions, and i love it so much.

Just Deserts by paletragedycat (M, 700k, 43/?) i'm at around like chapter 10 of this absolute beast of a fic and i am begging you guys to give this fic more attention. it's absolutely incredibly written with a fantastic plot, gorgeous characterization, this fic is absolutely insane like. this deserves to be like the crimson rivers of rosekiller. the plot is lowkey kinda hard to explain but umm. some of them are detectives, some of them are bodyguards, some of them are criminals. super cool. this fic is actually just so so impressive and so incredibly underrated it hurts.

sun tea in the summer by cademygod (NR, 44k, 10/12) this is THE rosekiller coming of age story i swear, modern au that starts when they're kids and each chapter they age 1 year, super cute and fluffy, i am such a sucker for childhood friends to lovers tropes omg.

Evan Rosier and the Unbearable Weight of his Own Decisions by Mylifeisaworm (E, 145k, 35/?) another great portrayal of canon compliant rosekiller, i really love how this one features all the slytherins we typically don't like (snape, mulciber, wilkes, etc.) bc it makes this fic feel even more realistic. this is a super awesome take on canon rosekiller and i love it.

Head Over Feet by sanguinerose (E, 136k, 27/27) i'm sure you guys have heard of this one but it's a modern au, super great, it's everything i've ever wanted from a rosekiller high school au. and evan is french btw god i love french evan rosier so much.

PRETTY BOY by IvyCore (E, 96k, 10/10) this is part of a series, the first part is SUGAR HIGH which is a jegulus fic but honestly this can probably?? be read without reading that one first (even though i still super recommend it). barty is a sex worker and a pianist and evan is a restaurant owner and this is just so so good omg.

Beneath the Mask by orphan_account (T, 105k, 44/44) okay this one is a really interesting concept, it's broken up into two timelines: one following them during their hogwarts years and the other following evan while he navigates life after the wizarding war. idk it's a bit hard to explain but. you'll see. so yeah all the war stuff does happen but they both survive afterwards. i really enjoyed this, it was a really interesting take on the whole war situation.

"Mr. Scamander, you have a visitor." Ertha said, snapping Theseus out of his trance.

He had been watching you through the tall glass panels in his office for the past fifteen minutes. You were deep in thought, your index finger underlining the files you were reading.

You bit your bottom lip, brows furrowing as you got further into the document before setting it aside and opening up another. Mere moments later, you had your head thrown back in laughter as two Ministry interns told you about their most recent escapade trying to make copies of the very file she was reading.

Shifting his gaze from you to Ertha, he smiled up at her, "Go ahead and send them in."

As his secretary shuffled away, calling out for the visitor, he turned back to where you had been working. You were gone, your green lamp turned off and the papers that were once scattered on your desk now arranged in neat piles.

He sighed, rising out of his seat as his guest entered, shaking their hand, introducing himself, "Theseus Scamander, Department of Magical Law Enforcement."

Theseus made his way to the staff room, aching for a cup of tea. It had been a long 24 hours, and he needed to calm himself down.

He only wanted to help his brother, not drive him farther away. Had Newt not been expelled from Hogwarts, he could have been living a very different life. But Newt did as he knew how- got himself into trouble he didn't intend to be in.

As Theseus poured himself a cup of tea out of a heated kettle, the door opened behind him.

You walked in, a bit of a pep in your step, grabbing an empty tea cup for yourself and waiting for him to finish pouring.

"Good morning, Mr. Scamander." You said, smiling up at him.

Flustered, he smiled back akwardly, stuttering as he greeted you, "Good morning, Ms. Y/L/N."

"How are you? You were still working by the time I left last night." You tilt your head to the side, brushing your h/c hair out of your face.

"Oh, you know, I'm doing alright. Family matters, I suppose. And you?"

You nodded, "I'm doing well, Mr. Scamander. Just frustrated with my latest case."

"No one ever said this job was easy, did they? Should've come with a warning, it should." He attempted to joke, but you didn't laugh. Your smile faded.

Did I say something wrong? For the love of Helga Hufflepuff, I can't do anything right. Should I appolgize? He pondered, staring into her e/c eyes.

"Mr. Scamander, are you sure you're alright?" You asked, concern growing on your face.

Theseus broke out into a sweat, his tie suddenly too tight around his neck, "Y-yes, everything's f-fine."

"Are you sure?" You asked, placing your free hand atop his, and wrapping it around the upper half of the teapot handle, tilting it, "Because you just spilled tea everywhere."

His eyes widened, embarassment striking him as he looked down to see that he had emptied the entire contents of the teapot onto the floor. The once spotless marbled floor was now soiled with a puddle of tea. So were his new loafers, the ones his mum had bought him for his birthday.

He had initially focused on the feel of your hand on his, but now he wished he could take it all back. Not act like a complete fool. But it was too late for that.

You set your teacup down on the counter beside you, taking your wand out of your skirt pocket, gently wrapping your hand around it, "Let me help you, Mr. Scamander."

You waved your wand slowly in a spiral motion, "Tergeo."

The brown puddle lifted from the floor in a singular line, spiraling into a nearby sink before it was gone.

The soiled marble was once again spotless, "Works like a charm, Mr. Scamander."

"Theseus." He said, so fast that if you hadn't been paying attention, you would have missed it.

"Mr. Scamander…" You trailed off with a sigh.

He shook his head, insistant, "Please, call me Theseus. All formality quite literally went down the drain when I spilled. I insist."

You crossed your arms, "I'm not sure Thetchar would approve of us being on a first-name basis."

"What Thetchar doesn't know won't hurt him."

An amused smile appeared on your face, "A Hufflepuff? Keeping secrets? Who would've known?"

"I have my moments." He grinned, his eyes moving from your face to his half-empty cup of tea.

Yours hadn't even been filled.

"What do you say I make this up to you? There's a teashop right down the street. It'll be my treat."

"I really should be working." You explained, gazing around the room, "But I think I can make an exception. Just this once."

Theseus nodded, "Just this once."

"Is there something you wanted to tell me, Mr. Scamander?" You asked, perched atop of his desk as he scribbled down a letter to his brother, your legs swinging back and forth as you waited for a response.

He shook his head, tensing as you referred to him by his last name, focusing on the task at hand, "No, darling, everything's alright."

"It doesn't seem alright." You frowned, pursing your lips before turning to him, "Theseus…"

He swallowed the bile rising in his throat, not meeting your eyes.

"Theseus." You repeated, placing a hand atop his to stop him from tapping his quill on the mahogany desk.

He met your eyes, his eyes glossy.

"Theseus, you know you can tell me anything, right?" You asked, "I'm here for you every step of the way."

He nodded, his brown curls falling loosely on his head, "I know."

"Can you please tell me what's the matter? I'm only trying to help."

"I'm afraid you can't help much with this, Y/N." Theseus sighed, leaning back into his chair, sliding his letter in your direction.

You scanned it carefully, which wasn't difficult due to his neat script. You read aloud, "'Dearest Theseus, I regret to inform you that your brother has been expelled from Hogwarts for endangering the safety of fellow students. There's something he's not telling the headmaster and myself, but my hands are tied. Darling, is there anything you could do? He's already taken his O.W.L.S., but it would mean the world to me if he could finish out his seventh year. Love, Mum'."

Your eyes widened as your gaze met his, "Oh, Theseus, I'm so sorry."

Sliding off the desk, you came to stand behind him, pressing a kiss to his temple and gently massaging his shoulders, "I know that you've always struggled with your feelings towards your brother, but please don't let this hold you back from reaching out to him. I'm sure there's something he's not telling us."

"That's the thing!" Theseus exclaimed, "He always leaves out the important details. Always gets himself into trouble. I wouldn't be surprised if he chose to get expelled. He never exactly thrived in school, not unless you count his performance in his classes, like-"

"Care of magical creatures, I know." You gave him a reassuring smile, "If he's already taken his O.W.L.S., then he should be perfectly fine. He's what, seventeen now?

"And all on his own." He groaned, "He's free from Hogwarts, he can go wherever he likes now. Which means chasing after dangerous creatures. I'm thrilled."

You laughed, "And here I thought you, too, chased after beasts?"

"Oh, I did. I adore them. But I never went to the extent Newt did. We once had a few Kneazles and Crups growing up. Nothing too exotic. Nothing like what Newt's going after."

You spun his chair around to face you, your hand still lingering on his shoulders, "Look at me, Theseus."

He met your eyes, not lifting his head. He looked like a kicked crup.

"You have to promise me that you'll reach out to him, alright? Not just your mother, or the school, but Newt. You may be eight years his senior, but you're still his brother. He needs you, Theseus. More than you know."

Theseus grumbled, "I always told him not to go chasing after Hippogriffs and Runespoors, but he never listened to me."

"Theseus." You warned, "You're a good man. You're kind, patient, loyal. Everything that makes you a Hufflepuff. I know, at the end of the day, that you'll do the right thing by Newt."

You leaned in to kiss him on the cheek, but he swivled to catch your lips. It was brief, but you couldn't help melting into his embrace.

Finally, you pulled away, starting towards the door.

"Remember our promise, love." You said over your shoulder.

Just like that, you were gone.

"Flipendo!" Theseus exclaimed, aiming his wand at a figure cloaked in black.

But the cloaked figure deflected the spell, aiming his wand at the auror's, "Flagrante!"

Theseus' wand began to burn his hand, getting hotter by the second. He screamed in agony as it dropped to the ground, his hand now raw and red, a large burn mark slashing across his hand.

The moment his wand reached the floor, the cloaked figure raised his wand, "It's the end of the line for you, Mr. Scamander."

Theseus began to back away, not daring to reach for his wand in fear that, in his weakest moment, the cloaked figure would attack, "You need to come with me, to speak to the ministry. If you come now, you will be tried by the minister. If you kill me, you'll be sent to Azkaban."

The figure mearly scoffed, "That's no way to die."

"Expuls-" He began, but was cut off by the sound of a woman behind him, shouting, "Pretrificus Totalis!"

His body froze, his arms and legs immobilized by the spell that bound him.

Theseus looked behind the figure, his eyes meeting yours and at least a half dozen aurors by your side in a prepared formation.

He grabbed his wand, holding it tightly in his hand and you heaved the figure up from the ground, "You're under arrest for the murder of a Hungarian Horntail, an endangered species legally protected by the department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Surrender your wands and prepare to be taken in for questioning and trial."

Two of the aurors that had been standing beside you grabbed the figure by the arms, turning to you "We'll take 'em in for questioning and meet you back at the ministry. I've got a feeling this is going to be a long night."

As soon as they disapparated, Theseus made a beeline for you.

You expected him to warn you of the dangers that went along with going headfirst into a fight, but he didn't.

"I thought this was a job for my department."

"It is, or at least, it was. But thankfully for you, my department is able to intervene as soon as the welfare of a magical creature is involved."

Theseus nodded, "You saved my life, Y/N."

You smiled, "And I'd do it again. I love you, Theseus."

Pressing a kiss to her temple, he rest his forehead against hers, "I love you, too, darling."

He paused, allowing his words to sink in, "So what do you say we go for a cup of tea? Just this once?"

"I really should get back to work, you know. But I'll make an exception, just this once."

You took his hand in yours, making your way down the cobblestone streets. A smile spread on your faces. It was more than just this once, it was forever.

Look, I'm not sure if this has been done before, but I'm offering this: Monster! reader and Jason Todd.

It's not really a request, I'm just sharing a little bit of a brainrot that I got somewhere while reading a couple of your fics. Sorry if this is too long, you don't have to read all of this.

So in the interval where Jason died - came back as Red Hood, reader was either a vigilante or a scientist working on a project that should have the security system updated or something. An accident happens and reader transforms into a mostly mindless beast that drives on instinct.

I'm saying mostly, because they can still recognize some faces or are aware of their situation to a certain extent but they can't really do anything to stop it.

So when Jason comes back as Red Hood and suddenly finds out his crush/ significant other got turned into a monster, the first thing he does is searching for you (if you aren't already confined in a prison or used as some kind of guard dog, this is Gotham, I can actually picture one of the rogues - mob bosses doing something like that). Jason takes off the helmet (after making sure no one is watching) hoping that reader could somehow recognize him and surprise, surprise, they do. Like, they are going full blown attack and suddenly freeze last second, recognizing the boy they always loved, changed, yet the same at the same time.

So monster!reader becomes tame at the presence of Jason, almost like a puppy or a very affectionate housecat while Jason takes care of reader while searching for a way to cure them and bring them back to their original form while also pampering them as best as they can.

I'm mostly picturing this out with werewolf!reader, but hell, I feel reader can be an eldritch horror abomination and still be all soft with Jason. I mean who wouldn't.

Nonnie, pleassse, you never have to apologize for length or asks like this because I always adore seeing everyone's ideas. And this one is just fantastic!! Seriously, I love the idea of Jason seeing past the appearance of a 'monster', the same way you would for him!

Off the top of my head, @/sanguineterrain has something vaugley like this called Angel of Small Death, where the reader is a shadow monster! I literally want to sink my teeth into that fic every time I think about it. (If you're looking for a fic rec)

Now, I'm actually going crazy at the idea that maybe you got a little too involved in your lab project, and something goes wrong, and you're more or less in a ManBat situation. Being the equivalent of a werewolf is hard, and you're mostly focused on food, staying warm, and plain survival.

If you end up sinking your teeth into a few goons with less than pure intentions of getting you under their bosses control, you don't think anyone can blame you. You're not sure how long you've been like this now, really, could be days, could be years. You mostly stick to alleys, the docks, and the sewers if you have to, even if the smell hurts you sharpened senses.

But it's your heightened smell that shakes your usually cloudy and reactive mind. Not even your tendency to act more wolf than person can keep you from recognizing Jason, even under the new, shiny helmet. He takes it off any way, ever cautious, and offers you food, water. But he didn't need to do any of that to get you to follow him to his base.

Red Hood 'taming' the Wolf of Gotham is feat that sends shock waves through the cites underbelly. But Jason, for his part, could care less about what people think of it. His one priority when it comes to you is to help you get back to yourself. (And if he needs to hand scrub your fur, file your claws, and wash you down with a hose, he will, in fact, do that)

And it turns out you are a very good guard dog! You chase off Batman, snarl at and attack the assassins Black Mask hires and rehires. But you're an even better lap dog, especially when Red Hood scratches your ears just right. Being a wolf is still hard, but at least you have someone who really cares about you to see you through it.

(Jason does believe in letting pets/friends turned into werewolves sleep on the bed. Even if you'll be embarrassed about it once he finds a way to turn you human again)

first off, thank you <3 I love Obscured all the way through, my all time favorite chapters would be chapters 18 and 19 respectively and chapter 5 though mainly for the hurt/comfort, drama, angst and just brilliant writing I am glad you asked about my severitus favorites because I have a comprehensive list of all my favorite Severitus fics and have had them lined up for my weekly rereads and now I get to share them...this is my moment this is not a "oh this fic is on this number because its better than the others" because to me, most of these fics are as good as the other and each deserve their own respect for good writing and storylines :) there's no real organization to this it just is so lets get down to it 1. Like None Other series-this series always makes it onto the Severitus fic recs but im adding it too because I adore it sm. mainly for the magic lore and Harry growth and generally just some good fucking Severitus and ofc im a stickler for Draco being thrown into that dynamic as well so. yes, lovely series 2. A Patchwork Family-there is no universe where this fic doesn't make it to this list, the Severitus, the childhood trauma, the ptsd healing, the emotional hurt/comfort...I enjoy the first one immensely and am so so so hyped for the sequel and just from the first chapter im even more ecstatic bc now we incorporate MORE trauma and yes I could yap forever about this 3. Obscured-do I have to even explain why this is on here. you have no idea how much this fic inspired my hyper fixation on Obscurials...no, I had not watched Fantastic Beasts before reading this fic, but I definitely did after and I woke everyone up screaming every time Credence made an appearance...the ADHD is strong in me. anyway this fic's writing is so damn good its like eating a hot meal or a full night of sleep its so satisfying for me personally, and the author is also a Six of Crows fan and I can glean the inspiration and when have I ever been denied the joys of Grishaverse writing. NEVER 4. Digging for Bones-okay so this fic??? its dark. its sometimes a bit TOO dark, but I enjoy it nonetheless, its always gotten quite a few tears from me...AND it includes magic lore, so I obviously was all over that. the Severitus is good, this whole fic radiates rainy day vibes and is just generally nice despite the morose energy 5. O Mine Enemy-this was one of my first glimpses into Severitus and...it's just lovely. a lovely fic, a lovely time all around, I enjoy it immensely every time I read it, the hurt/comfort is amazing and the Severitus is delicious here. the writing style is super satisfying to me and its just a good time all around (I had to split this in two bc my computer is being odd)

So the concept for this fic first came to me about 0.5 milliseconds after finishing my last longfic and swearing never again, which basically tells you all you need to know about me as a person. I think I'd been reading a lot of fics by khalulu, and somehow the Beast Division just popped into my brain. Wherever it came from, I'm incredibly grateful, because it gave me the opportunity to collaborate with the incomparable @ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm, who threw himself into this with such incredible enthusiasm, going along with every crazy idea I had and adding a few of his own. His hard work and insane talent really turned my weird and wonderful creature story into something special, and I feel so incredibly lucky <3

Friday Fic Recs: Long WIP edition

I’ve been thinking a little bit about the (very arduous) process of writing longfic, and how much of a difference support and cheerleading can make on that particular journey; so, although it’s been a while since I’ve made a Friday rec list, I thought I’d put one together celebrating all the incredible in-progress longfics in the Tolkien fandom I’m keeping up with at the moment!

Atandil series by @eilinelsghost. Such a gorgeous graceful moving exploration of Finrod and his relationship with Men, and the slowest and most sensual of slow burns in his romance with Bëor. The amount this series has made me THINK – about love, and hope, and memory, and Taliska grammar – is off the charts, and to top it off it’s written in the loveliest most Tolkienesque prose.

we will make this place our home by @leucisticpuffin. Ohh this AU is just like a warm gentle hug after a long day. The “kidnap fam but make it a classic children’s novel” concept is so so inspired, all the characterisations are so nuanced and moving (Maglor my beloved!!) and the OCs will steal your heart.

And Love Grew by @polutrope. On the other end of the kidnap fam spectrum, this complex and careful examination of the time after the Third Kinslaying is SO brilliant. Incredible characterisations of all the key players, some truly fascinating OCs (Dornil!!) and of course beautiful graceful prose.

tongues of the sky series by @welcomingdisaster. The first fic in this series, seabird, was written for me and I can be SO obnoxious about this :) but also it’s a wonderful moving ultimately hopeful fix-it AU with note-perfect russingon and m&m dynamics. The sequel, sparrowhawk, is currently in progress and soooo good.

ashes, ashes, dust to dust — the devil’s after both of us by @that-angry-noldo. This is SUCH an original and fascinating take on an AU where Maedhros and Maglor take Finarfin captive to bargain for the Silmarils, featuring incredible character dynamics and a terrifyingly eldritch Eönwë.

and all his towers cast down by @actual-bill-potts. What if Finrod survived the events of the Leithian? Well, angst and trauma, to start off with. And also beautiful beautiful writing, impeccable characterisation and a Maglor-Lúthien teamup!! I adore this AU.

All That Glitters Gold Rush AU series by @allthatglittersisnotgoldrush. This one is LONG LONG LONG, but also SO worth it. Ever wanted to see the entire Silmarillion retold as a western, complete with a terribly tragic and complicated Maedhros, Morgoth the terrifying slave-owner, and a beautifully multicultural Doriath? The authors have you covered.

And the Stars Shine the Same series by @runawaymun. OC-centric fic is such a rare delight and this series set in early Third Age Rivendell is just wonderful, tender and complicated and with a truly incredible Elrond.

Retelling the Hobbit comic by @retellingthehobbit. Something a little different, but I binged all of this comic retelling of The Hobbit on a plane recently and GOD it’s so so beautiful. A truly gorgeous art style, and slowly converting me from a Bilbo/Thorin sceptic into an enjoyer!

In Heart by @tanoraqui. An AU where Fëanor takes the Doom of the Noldor as a what-not-to-do manual and ends up making better choices! Featuring incredible worldbuilding and fantastic characterisation.

naught green upon the oak series by @welcomingdisaster. A CoH-inspired Maedhros/Maglor AU in which Maglor winds up with amnesia after his encounter with Glaurung. I’m SO insane about this series that I can’t be coherent but it is fantastic and chilling and devastating with the most beautiful prose aahhh.

Strange Currencies by @jouissants. Maedhros is re-embodied at last only to learn that he is married to Maglor: a touching and painful post-canon fic interleaved with incredible flashbacks to the First Age.
