This got me thinking about a similar question; what's a good term for someone obsessed with hating something in the same way a fan of something likes it? Here's what I came up with:
'Fandom' comes from 'fan' (shortened form of 'fanatic') + '-dom'; therefore, such a word would come from an antonym for 'fan'.
Looking at Merriam-Webster.com suggests various words meaning 'someone who excessively criticizes something', and one such word stuck out to me.
Therefore, I propose 'carpdom' (from 'carper', a person who habitually finds fault, especially for frivolous or petty reasons).
The Inverse of "Fanrage"
We talk about the concept of fanrage a lot. If you’re unfamiliar, it’s the phenomenon where people will get very angry at you for critiquing stories they like, regardless of how polite or targeted your wording. Beyond calling you names, fanragers will make all kinds of bizarre claims about you based on things the critique doesn’t say. You must think everyone who likes the story is stupid, or that the whole story is trash because you critiqued one part of it, that kind of thing.
Clearly there’s a lot of emotion going on here. People incorporate stories into their identity, and if those stories get critiqued, they feel personally attacked. But what’s really interesting is that this same thing will happen if you *praise* a story, at least if that story is at all disliked by anyone.
For example: we might publish an article talking about how we like the way Luke defeats Kylo Ren in The Last Jedi. It’s a nonviolent approach that takes advantage of Kylo’s hatred and obsession, exactly the sort of tactic a wise Jedi Master would employ.
Such a piece would almost certainly receive scorn from people who hate The Last Jedi, and their comments would be indistinguishable from normal fanrage. We’d probably see claims that we obviously have no idea what we’re talking about, that we’re trying to silence critics of the film, and that we must love the entire movie because we praised one part of it.
None of this would be what we said, but that wouldn’t stop the comments. And of course, there would be personal attacks. Basic insults against our intelligence of course, but also more specific things like “Disney shill.”
This reaction seems to come from the same emotional place as fanrage. People make disliking a story part of their identity, so any praise of that story feels like a personal attack. The only question is what to call it. Something like “reverse-fanrage” is a bit awkward, and would require some previous knowledge to understand. We do like “haterrage,” but the double ‘r’ sound could make it impractical.
We’ll keep searching for a good term, but the important thing to remember is that people can get angrily reactive about almost anything, even stuff that seems innocuous.
#pictures#analysis#media critique#star wars#fandom#carpdom#important#useful things#good posts#my additions#linguistics#and that would make the opposite of fanrage 'carprage'#(which is apparently 'carpentry' in french?)

Not tagging it cuz I'm not a poopybutt

If notps are "pairings you hate for reasons but the reasons are petty basic fanrage" then there you go there's mine. Me personally though, I reserve notps to 'pairings' that I'm allowed to call you out on if you like it (Elsanna, Toothcup). Gross. Go away.

(MLB rant ahead) You know what puzzles me most?
How there only seems to be at least ONE person who is feeling down in Paris. Like what, do all the Parisians have a calender on when they can feel upset?
You expect me to believe Hawkmoth just happens to sense only ONE person feeling upset? Like what there is no hormonal girl on her period ready to rage so the akuma heads for the fussy baby instead?!
No group of college kids stressing about a last minute assignment?! No angry employee dealing with an entitled customer?! No disgruntled protestors?
You expect me to believe that in the whole ENTIRETY of freakin' Paris, fucking Hawkmoth only senses ONE angry/upset person to akumatize?!
YOU EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE PEOPLE OF PARIS ARE SO WELL ADJUSTED THAT HAWKMOTH CAN HONE IN ON THAT ONE UPSET PERSON?!

Seriously what's a "fanag"
fan-magazine?
Maybe they meant "fanmag" or "fanrag" aunno
Just fanag is a dumb word LOL
Sorry I wondered what came first the zine or the fanzine and the answer seems to be "yes"
(Wiktionary links the etymology into essentially a blank page so I disregarded it)
According to this at one point it was spelled "Zeens" which would fit the underground "misspelling" thing like "Comix"
Tho yeah this site confirms "Zine" comes from "Fanzine"
Aunno I felt like sharing even tho I couldn't read it all (someone should turn this article into a comic book ROFL) tho I thought it was neat.
Calling them Zeens and Fanags now. Eat it, Chauvenet.
For the longest time I had no idea that “zine” was taken from “magazine” and so I pronounced it the same way as vine and I still can’t stop

I can’t help thinking how out of touch the director for the Rampage film was. He stated that he didn’t feel like humans turning into giant monsters was relatable. As if somehow ripping off Mighty Joe Young and having random giant hybrid creatures is relatable.
It isn’t just that I’m fanraging that the film isn’t like the games, I just feel that having humans mutate into monsters not only has more relatable pathos, but also would’ve made the film feel unique among giant monster flicks. If you got to know the characters as people before they become monsters, you’re more able to feel for their plight. You get to see who they are and what leads them to become what they do. It’s implied in many of the game manuals and other materials that personality effects what kind of creature they become, so you could see those aspects in foreshadowing. Another aspect is that the monsters have some of their humanity left, which could bring in interesting conflicts (such as self loathing at what they’ve become and feeling a sense of freedom with their new found power). Having the motivation of revenge on an unethical corporation and perhaps on humanity at large for their mistreatment would also speak to the darker aspects of the human condition. There even could’ve been some sorrow with regard to family and friends of the mutated who have to be made aware of what had happened, what their loved ones have done and that said loved ones may need to be killed for the sake of humanity’s survival.
I just feel like there was so much wasted potential because of a director who didn’t understand the material and wanted it to be even less than it already was.

one of the most hated aspects of Ducktales 2017 has been the changes to Scrooges parents, especially his dad, Fergus Mcduck, who in don rosas original version served as the only sane man of the mcduck clan as well as an anchor of normalcy and decency in the clan of larger than life greedy scheizters. their deaths also served as pivotal moments of scrooges life that forced him to grow up. whats your thoughts on the newer version of the two and their relationship to scrooge?
Huh, I wasn’t expecting this to be source of any real fanrage. Shipping, sure, that’s something people regularly get disemboweled over, especially in a show that barely has any romance. But Fergus McDuck, a character most people probably don’t even realize wasn’t invented for the new cartoon?
Granted, I wasn’t thrilled with the new characterization of Fergus and his relationship with Scrooge. I think it’s a bridge too far to make Fergus and Downey weird immortal druid immortals just so that they could appear in contemporary stories, despite all the other weirdness in the show. Scrooge is already unnaturally ancient (which I heartily approve of), and it’s odd to have his parents still around. I feel like this might be one of those cases where the new storytellers really wanted to bring in a favorite old character, but had to do so in a way that kills the fun.
Likewise, I understand about the theme of family conflict that the relationship troubles between Fergus and Scrooge are supposed to reflect, but I don’t think it really adds anything that the stuff with Donald and Della didn’t. Nor do I think it’s worthwhile foreshadowing for the family conflicts that lead into the first season’s finale. It’s just more of the same, and a blander version of what Don Rosa did, where Scrooge goes full robber baron and the memory of his father is what fully breaks him free from that instinct. That’s a great moment, especially after the classy death the Fergus got.
Still, I don’t think the Fergus plotline hurts anything, and I’m surprised at the importance that the Duck fans give to his original characterization. I remember him having a few penny-pinching moments, and both of Scrooge’s sisters came across as perfectly reasonable people (...when Hortense wasn’t demonstrating the anger she passed on to Donald), so Fergus didn’t really stand out to me. As I said, his death and the payoff of Scrooge’s respect for him is great, and I’m fond of the character because of that, but by the time the new cartoon version was introduced, I wasn’t expecting any direct adaptations.
So I’d say Fergus is one of the weaker elements of the show, but I was more annoyed by the new Don Carnage.
Still, the new Ducktales is so good, I suppose even “one of the most hated aspects” isn’t going to be that bad. And I guess the longterm Duckfans have strong opinions.
And I say that as someone who goes into a depressed funk every time I think of ‘Rise of Skywalker.’ XD

People who complained the battle in "The Long Night" was too dark either
1. Have shitty TV or need to change settings on it
2. Watched on their phone despite the advice.
3. Got a shitty illegal rip from the internet
4. Didn't actually watched it.
It was the most epic, dark, gloomy and depressing battle in a TV series I've ever seen. It was fucking amazing. The contrast of the darkness and the fires and the fear of unknown... I definitely felt that.
People who are complaining about it perhaps don't deserve rights 🤔 (jk if wasn't obvious)

I hate this fucking show SO MUCH!! It had so much potential... all it had to be was full of ridiculous werewolf shenanigans perpetrated by ludicrously pretty “teenagers”! Instead it imploded.
At least we have gif sets and fix-it fics.

We often get fanragers insisting that we qualify any critical point as our own opinion, but beyond how unwieldy and unreadable this would make our articles, they never seem to think the same about positive comments. Should we also replace “this plot twist is great” with “we personally loved this plot twist but others might not”?

CSE Talent announced Wednesday that it had fired agent Jason Wood, who led its baseball division, for not upholding the company's "moral and ethical standards."
The Major League Baseball Players Association confirmed it has suspended Wood pending the outcome of an investigation. According to Yahoo! Sports, the players' association is investigating allegations that Wood secretly filmed clients who were using his shower.
MLBPA declined to comment on the situation and the status of the investigation.
According to FanRag Sports, which first reported the allegations, a player, who didn't want to be identified, found a camera when using Wood's shower, confronted the agent and then fired him.
WTF?!?!?!!!!

Fuck the Stormrage twins, specifically Illidan in particular.
Alright time for another fanrage rant in light of this poorly written fiasco trailer cinematic we got for argus content. To preface, I hate Blizzards writing team.
Literally WHAT THE FUCK. Illidan Stormrage actual creeper stalker fuckboy, whos responsible for the deaths of untold thousands, whos acted with nothing but total cowardice/greed since the beginning, (under the guise of “I do what needs to be done”) the arrogant troll who chooses to be inflammatory @ literally everyone and taught his egdelord fanservice the same behavior has the gall, hypocrisy, and audacity to tell VELEN a draenei prophet over 15000 years his senior that HE failed his people...
THIS FREAKING HOE. He says Velen “failed” his people because he “watched” argus fall and “didnt stand and fight” and that Velen needs to forget the single thing that has kept the draenei strong/alive over 50000 years of history i.e their faith. HE TOLD A LITERAL PROPHET WITH UNDENIABLE PREDICTIVE POWERS GRANTED TO HIM BY THE LIGHT TO FORGET HIS RELIGION BECAUSE IT WAS HOLDING HIM BACK LMAO!?!?!?
Illidan is a coward. A stalker. Literal filthy scum whos done zilch but plague Azeroth with his presence EXCEPT when it serves his own ends/survival to assist the planet rather than exploit it. This dude is responsible for the deaths of THOUSANDS of people, for continued destruction in outland, reckless irresponsible use of magic resulting in more death, constant double agent behavior, zero moral recourse, and hes toxic af to literally every person he interacts with. Oh yeah. hes also creepy af from the beginning to one of the most solid characters in the entire Warcraft franchise: Tryande goddess tier whisperwind. This dude has “sacrificed everything” (correction, he sacrificed other people to steal power and then payed for it when he was corrupted with fel magic but because hes such a crappy person managed to turn his encroaching monsterhood into a strength) when all hes actually done is been a self serving dick from the day everything began.
Velen is responsible for saving eredar/draenei culture and civilization and has successfully led his people through an eons long chase across space using his powers which ONLY failed over draenor because the Naaru powering the Genedar were so mana starved over the years they could no longer support the ship. He was able to save untold thousands of his people on Argus because he was brave enough to stand up and say no, and because he was SMART enough to know the other two Triums were already drunk on power. He lost his family, his planet, and most of his people in days; and then got to see it happen again on Draenor. Illidan. knows. SHIT about sacrifice and loss. The Illidari know nothing in comparison to the collective loss the draenei have felt an eon before they were even born.
You fucks sacrificed your eyes, your place in society, and your morals to become selfish monsters whose only purpose is to kill demons. The vast majority of you CHOSE this for one reason or another.
The draenei watched their entire planet crack in half, and their culture/people either butchered like animals or transformed into monsters. They watched it TWICE. Fuck Illidan and fuck the illidari. Im so mad.
#WoW#Illidari#Illidan#stormrage#Warcraft#Im so pissed#few fictional things actually make me physically angry on this level#Blizzard#screw this
